Distress Signal is an action-packed ride that pulled me in from the first chapter. The plot was intense and the characters especially the Lawless siblings are well-written. I loved the dynamic between them, and I pray Lane's book is next in the pipeline (PLEASE).

That said, I couldn't quite give this book the full 5 stars. My main issue was the frustrating choices made by the characters, particularly Reagan whose twin sister was literally missing for NEARLY 4 MONTHS. The decisions made were borderline unrealistic and took me out of the story multiple times because I was so frustrated with them.

My main gripes were:
-Reagan’s twin sister, Lainey, has been kidnapped and yet Reagan waits 48 hours to report her missing despite knowing something was wrong, doesn’t read her sister’s diaries (which literally contained the kidnapper’s initials) for three months because she's just not ready. Like girl, YOUR TWIN SISTER IS MISSING and you decide to read those diaries 3 months later...
-Reagan hides threatening texts and phone calls that could’ve helped the investigation, and repeatedly puts herself in danger because apparently "nothing bad happens when the sun is up.” (That’s an actual quote from the book!).
-Trey, tech genius brother, takes three months to go through security footage. Which... might have been understandable if, you know, someone’s life wasn’t literally on the line. You'd think there would be just a tad more urgency...
-They repeatedly hide information from Lane, a cop who is leading the investigation. He might actually be able to help if people told him shit before it was too late?

Lainey ends up locked in a psychopath’s basement for nearly four months because, frankly, most of the people around her acted like complete amateurs in a crisis.

Despite all of this, the book remains a compelling read with emotional depth, a strong romantic connection between Reagan and Finn, and a cast of characters you’ll definitely want more from (seriously, Lane’s story, please). Just be prepared to yell at some of the decisions the character make along the way.

Proud to say I guessed who the culprit was before it was revealed.

Fans of Devney Perry's Indigo Ridge will enjoy this series.

I received an advanced copy for free through the author and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4 stars.

"Distress Signal" is the second book in Amanda Chaperon's Dusk Valley romantic suspense series. This story is full of action, tension, spice, and heat (in more ways than one!). I was drawn into this forced proximity second-chance romance from the very first chapter. Amanda does an excellent job gripping her readers and never letting them get a moment to relax! Talk about anxiety! There are several moments where I was holding my breath while reading. I really enjoyed Reagan and Finn's story, as well as the secondary storyline involving Lainey, Reagan's twin sister. The missing person aspect was very intriguing, and I enjoyed the twin connection (what I took to calling "twin-tuition, lol) both Reagan and Lainey and Finn and West. I think their twin-tuition gives this story something I haven't seen much in other romantic suspense books, which, again, kept me engaged and interested. Reagan and Finn have such terrific chemistry with one another. You can really feel the yearning and the pining they have for each other. Even in the most difficult of times, they lean on each other and seem to need to be near one another. I will say, a couple of the bigger moments felt a bit too convenient and/or forced, but it didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book. This was a quick, interesting read, and I cannot wait to see who the next Dusk Valley couple will be. I am ALL IN, BABY!!!

Thank you to Amanda Chaperon for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

This series is really good!

Reagan and her twin sister, Lainey, are in Dusk Valley blowing off some steam after something traumatic happens to their family. There she meets Finn; he’s on leave from the army to celebrate his brother making police chief. They spend one night together then go their separate ways, both feeling an intense connection, neither one can forget. Now, it’s seven years later and Reagan’s sister has gone missing. She returns to Dusk Valley to find out what happened and runs into Finn again, who is out of the army and running his family’s ranch. Torn between wanting to find Lainey, and wanting to start a real relationship with Finn, Reagan is having a hard time. Throw in a mystery stalker and everyone is on edge. The suspense in this was great. I had no idea who the bad guy was, and was a little shocked when it was revealed lol. I love all the characters in this series, the Lawless brothers are hard not to love. The connection between Reagan and Finn was really good, they had great chemistry. I can’t wait for the next book.

I was provided an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.

🌶🌶 - Spice Level

Reagan is called back to a place her and her sister visited 7 years ago. Her twin sister has recently gone missing, maybe unalived. She runs back into Finn, who was a one night stand.

When Finn and Reagan meet again, it's very obvious both had fallen pretty hard after just one night as neither had forgotten about the other. When they are both forced in proximity due to her missing sister, these two rekindled, and it was hot. I absolutely enjoyed the suspense of it all as I read this book. Will they find her or won't they find her? I couldn't put it down reading the mystery like I did as well in Book 1. These two get their chance even among all the searching for her missing sister when Reagan first felt guilty about their relationship spinning back up. The spice was just right as it balanced the plotting of the story.

⚠️ Please read trigger and content warnings ⚠️

Thank you, author, for the arc!

“There’s nothing wrong with asking for help.”

Oh man, returning to Dusk Valley this time has been such a rush!!! Finn and Reagan truly have my heart. The faith they have in each other and the strength they find by being together certainly makes for the kind of love books are written about. For someone like Finn who loves fiercely and without questions, it is amazing to see Reagan love him back as hard.

“When Finn’s eyes caught mine, the entire world seemed to stop spinning. Everything narrowed to that moment, that reconnection.”

As always, meeting the entire Lawless clan again was lovely as well. Aria taking a stand for herself made me more happy than I expected to be. Needless to say, I am definitely interested in knowing everything about Lane and his “uninvited houseguest” as well. Honestly, I think I only really need half a reason to keep visiting Dusk Valley and I already have more than that! 😉♥️

Another solid romantic suspense in Dusk Valley, ID.
Small town.
Ranch setting. 🤠

Also another Lawless brother bites the dust.
Finn, the tatted army pilot/vet turned horse rescue owner
“I’ll always come for you”
The man is pure swoon.

Reagan, the one night stand still on his mind.
Time jump.
Photographer, girl on a mission

Reagan and Finn are both identical twins.
Reagan’s sister goes missing here.

And the twists and turns kept me wanting to know. I didn’t have a solid guess for who the bad guy was for quite awhile.

Just a few minor plot issues, the woman murdered at the beginning? And just other things I’m thinking about in my head that don’t seem resolved to me. The main plot of this story does get resolved tho, have no fear.

But I am extremely excited to see that the other brothers have some love interests lined up for them.

I tore through Distress Signal like someone handed me an emotional energy drink with zero chill, every page had me leaning forward, itching to know what trap was next, which scar would crack open, and how the hero and heroine would keep holding on. Reagan Lindsey shows up in Dusk Valley on a mission to save her sister and instead finds herself thrown back into the orbit of Finn Lawless, the man who gave her that one perfect night seven years ago, and maybe still holds her in his thoughts. The one night stand turned forced proximity trope should’ve been overdone by now……but Amanda spins it so that every “maybe we can’t” moment feels earned, raw, and bristling with quiet war wounded tension.

Finn? The rugged rancher who’s retired from the Army but never really left the battlefield in his mind. He’s solid, he’s protective, he’s got scars and silence and that type of calm storm you can’t ignore. Watching him guard Reagan, even when she fights him, even when she doesn’t want his help, even when she’s bolting, instead of stepping back, that was the core of every scene I flagged with “heart crack” in my Kindle. And Reagan? She’s fierce, she’s vulnerable, she’s on one mission, but when her guard drops for just a second and the danger creeps up, that’s when you feel it. Their relationship builds with “I don’t want this but I can’t walk away” energy, and there’s something delicious about that pull. The stakes get real when an unknown stalker shows up, danger wraps around them, and the question becomes not can they trust each other, but how far will they go to keep each other safe.

So why 4 stars and not a wild 5? Because while I loved how this one delivered on small town suspense, reckless chemistry, and the “old feelings, new risks” dynamic, two things held me back: the pacing slid in a few places (there were moments where the danger paused just long enough for me to notice), and some of the secondary threads didn’t hit as deeply as I hoped. It didn’t detract from my enjoyment, it just meant I wasn’t left utterly wrecked in the way I sometimes crave from this genre. But make no mistake, if you’re craving a steamy, emotionally invested, ranch life meets suspense romance, Distress Signal ticks almost every box. I’m already keening for more from Dusk Valley. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well this one had me sucked in right from the beginning. Reagan and Finn have one HOT night together while her and her twin sister Lainey are on a trip. But then they don’t see or speak to each other for seven years, even given the fact that they had such insane chemistry and neither of them ever forgot about each other. Now, Reagan is back in Dusk Valley because her twin has gone missing. I loved the twin-tuition that we see with both Reagan and Lainey, and Finn and West throughout this book. It was a fun twist that you don’t see much of, if at all, in books. The chemistry, and connection between these two was so so good. Reagan struggles between needing to find her sister and wanting to explore more of her relationship with Finn, but he makes it hard to stay away. I loved how protective he was of her, how supportive he was in the hunt for her sister, and how he was doing everything he could to bring Lainey home. The suspense actually has me so intrigued and it’s safe to say I was completely blindsided and shocked by who the bad guy was in this one. You can’t help but love the Lawless crew and I even loved seeing bits of Owen and Dahlia (Love on the Vine series) again.

Thank you so much, Amanda, for an ARC of Distress Signal. I cannot wait for what’s next with this series!

Another banger from Amanda!

I've read very little romantic suspense stories before reading Fire Fight, the first book in this series, but Amanda made sure to quickly make this genre one of my favorites. She blends spicy romances with thrilling, action-packed mysteries perfectly, making the reader gasp and giggle in a perfect balance! You barely have a moment to catch your breath before another scene makes your adrenaline jump as high as possible. As a lover of both romance and thriller genres, it's no surprise that I'm flying through these books while having the best time! Finn and Reagan were such a delight — I loved seeing them reunite after a one-night stand that happened years ago. Finn falls first and harder, which is always a trope I enjoy immensely, but it was especially rewarding with these two. I loved their ex-military and cowboy × photographer dynamic, I loved the small town setting, and I loved the whole Lawless family a bunch! I also enjoyed the discussions about being a twin, dealing with grief and trauma, and realizing you should let yourself indulge because you deserve it.

If you're looking for something both thrilling and absolutely sweet, I urge you to take a chance at Amanda's Dusk Valley series! These books are made to be read in a single day! I can't wait to see which brother (or sister) will be next, and I already can't wait to return to this world and this family!

A huge thank you to the author for sending me an ARC of this book!

Many thanks to Amanda Chaperon for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book picks up with the Lawless Family, this time it’s Finn that is the focus of the book. Him and Reagan met seven years ago, a one night hookup. Seven years later, Reagan’s sister is missing from Dusk Valley, and Reagan isn’t resting until she finds her sister.

Amanda has done it again. I thought I had figured it all out but in true Amanda fashion, I couldn’t have been further from the truth. I fell in love with Finn and Reagan as they fought for the truth and tried to figure out what had happened to Lainey. My heart pounded the last several chapter, and didn’t want it to end at the same time. The family aspect of this book will always be the thing that sticks me with me and will be the reason I reread these books for years to come.

One of my absolute favorites things Amanda does is bring back characters from her previous books and this one is no different. If you have loved any of Amanda’s other books, I highly recommend picking this one up - it has it all - heart pounding action, romance, spice and tender family moments.

I’m really liking this series! The second book was another great story with the perfect balance between romance and suspense. I had a hard time putting this one down and kept on guessing who the villain was (and ending up being wrong 😅). Finn was a swoonworthy hero! He saw someone he liked and went after her. Allowed her space and time to get to where he was, never wavering. Reagan was a good heroine. Strong and independent, but able to be vulnerable. The plot was plotting and the spice was spicing!
I’ll be back when the next book comes out!

Safety:
- OM: h has an ex boyfriend that makes an appearance. Didn’t serve any purpose, not sure why he was there at all.
- No OW
- No cheating
- 7 year separation after initial ONS. Both not celibate in between. Both still pining though.

I didn’t think I could love book 2 just as much as I love book one, but I was proven wrong. I swear the banter between the brothers just gets better. I really love reading Amanda‘s books. She has suspense, humor, love and betrayal she gives it all to you. How can you complain?

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

What to expect: small town romantic suspense, rescue rancher x photographer, forced proximity, one night stand, slow burn, touch her & d!e, a missing sister, a creepy stalker, and a band of brothers, “you called, you came”

One thing about me is that I’m going to enjoy and devour every single book that Amanda writes. Distress Signal was of course no exception. This book is easily one of the most bingeable books I’ve ever read. Distress Signal is the true definition of romantic suspense because the romance is sizzling and the suspense is thrilling from page 1. You can tell that Amanda has passion for the genre with her writing, details, and plot execution. She absolutely knocked Distress Signal out of the park. I actually guessed the suspect, which rarely ever happens for me 😂

You must read Fire Fight (book one in the Dusk Valley series) first to avoid spoilers. Trust me when I say this– YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. It will make Distress Signal so much more impactful.

Now let’s get to my yearning babies Reagan and Finn that have the most scrumptious chemistry, love, and bond. The connection they had because they both have a twin was the best part about this story. I’m not a twin, but I feel like this bond was authentic and written extremely well. I also really connected with these two because my mom passed. The grief they both suffered was raw, emotional, and genuine. Being able to relate to Reagan and Finn wasn’t surprising in the slightest because Amanda makes it 100% possible. I think everyone will be able to relate to a piece of this story whether it’s because they have a sibling, have lost a loved one, have served in the military, or have dealt with a mental illness.

Reagan is in my top 3 favorite female characters that Amanda has ever written. She’s fierce, determined, brave, and unbelievably strong. And she doesn’t take shit from ANY man, which speaks volumes to who she is at her core. I really felt like I was able to get inside of her head and feel everything she felt. She went through hell and back and came out stronger than ever.

Finn is in my top 3 favorite male characters that Amanda has ever written. He’s protective, compassionate, brave, and unbelievably strong just like Reagan. He will stop at nothing to protect his family and loved ones. Seeing him become Reagan’s hero warmed my heart in ways that I didn’t know were possible. I empathized with Finn on a mental level. We may suffer from different mental illnesses, but the mental health representation was superb.

Lastly, the spice was just the right amount. It doesn’t take away from the plot, which I love. However, it certainly adds a delicious aspect to Reagan and Finn. 🥵

Thank you Amanda for the advanced reader’s copy! This review is voluntary and entirely my own.

ARC REVIEW

This is the second book in Amanda Chaperon’s romantic suspense series, Dusk Valley, which is a series best read in order.

When Reagan Lindsey returns to the town of Dusk Valley in order to track down her missing twin sister, the last person she expects to run into in Finn Lawless, her ONS from seven years ago.

I have to say, I really enjoyed this book and a large part of that was due to the characters.

I really liked Finn, the MMC. He was levelheaded and very in touch with his emotions. I thought he was good at de-escalating situations and helping to ground Reagan. Equally, he wasn’t afraid to say when something was bothering him. I think all of that together made him a really well rounded character. I also really loved his relationship with Aria, his sister. There were moments where I thought he placed a little bit too much focus on rekindling his relationship with Reagan and sometimes forgot that she was only in town to find her missing sister, which I didn't love.

Reagan was a really interesting FMC. I completely understood her hesitancy in entering any sort of relationship with Finn. Her primary focus was to find her sister and anything else that happened in Dusk Valley was an unplanned extra. Her loyalty to her sister is unmatched and she was always one step ahead of the police. However, The repeated use of “Godesses” started to annoy me slightly especially since I didn’t feel like it aligned with the rest of Reagan’s character. I also would have loved a bit more of her passion for photography.

There is very clear chemistry between the two characters when they meet seven years ago, and it is amplified even more when they reunite. However, Reagan’s survivors guilt is holding her back from committing to Finn and we got an interesting slow burn relationship from them.

In terms of suspense, this book was focused on a more long-term mystery which was finding Reagan’s sister. It was less action packed than the first book, but I think changing up the suspense styles was a good idea and something that will really benefit the series in the long run. I will say it felt a little bit slow at times and I would have liked another action scene earlier on, but overall it worked.

Thank you to Amanda and her team for the opportunity to read this ARC! I’m really looking forward to the next book!

3.5⭐️ rounded up

This had a great start. There was a fun prologue of sorts that sets up Reagan and Finn’s great chemistry. Love the time jump to seven years later! The entire plot/premise is absolutely perfect for a romantic suspense story, and the double twin connection gave this story a unique twist.

Where I got a little lost after the initial great start was on how I felt about Reagan feeling sparks rekindle with Finn as she’s on her way to identify her sister’s body. That, paired with the rowdy group of Lawless brothers during her most vulnerable time seemed a little insensitive.

Something I really loved about Fire Fight (book 1 in the series and a 5⭐️ read for me), was that both Aspen and Crew relied on professional law enforcement and asked for help rather than running into situations on their own. This was different. Reagan was a bit immature in her decisions to go out on her own searching. She was irresponsible going though her sisters things before the police do. For what? Because she’s curious? Odd. She also withholds information from the sheriff at times. It seems to go against actually wanting to find her missing sister.

There was a lot I liked about this story including their chemistry and the way the relationship develops between the two main characters as time passes. It felt like they were actually getting to know each other. Unfortunately, the fact that these two are SO wrapped up in each other sometimes makes it easy to forget that her sister is missing.

Lane Lawless is kind of bad at his job lol. I’m already curious about his book and FMC. References to Lane and Laine (Lainey, Reagan’s sister) made it clunky to read once or twice.

This is a book I would have loved to beta read for. With very minimal tweaking I think it could have been a 4.5-5⭐️ read for me like the first in the series was. I like the Lawless family a lot, and will keep reading the series!

Thank you to Amanda Chaperon for an advance copy of this book for review.

Just like I knew it would be, this book was amazing! Amanda in her romantic suspense era is truly unmatched, and I am so invested in Dusk Valley and the Lawless family.

Finn and Reagan were everything. From a one night stand to the right person at the wrong time, to full-on lovers, their story hit all the right spots. Reagan finding happiness in one of her darkest times felt so real, and Finn? He was all in the second he saw her back in Dusk Valley. He worked to show her exactly how much he cared, and watching them rebuild that connection was everything. Both of them have a twin, and that twin connection, which was portrayed so beautifully, adds such depth to their bond. Finn completely understands Reagan’s bond, love and protectiveness for her sister, and it maked their connection feel even more real.

When Reagan’s sister goes missing, the stakes skyrocket, and Finn immediately supports her through the fear, frustration, and guilt she feels every day. Every time he reminded her, “I’ll always come for you,” my heart kept melting just a little bit more, because eventually she started to believe it because it was not just words, but proven with action EVERY TIME. He would tear the world apart to protect her and he proved that.

The suspense had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Amanda just KNOWS how to write suspense and execute it perfectly. I was guessing and drawing up my suspects list until the last moment and naturally I was STILL wrong and nearly threw my kindle screaming. From now on everyone in Dusk Valley is on my suspect list. I trust no one but the Lawless clan and a few other's close to the group.

The Lawless family stealed the show as always. I loved seeing Crew and Aspen happy, especially after what they had endured, the glimpses of the other brothers, and Aria standing up for herself and her dreams, with Finn fully in her corner. I am fully seated and ready for more of the Lawless clan to find their own HEA's

ARC Review of Distress Signal by Amanda Chaperon💘📚

Distress Signal pulled me in from the first page and didn’t let go. Amanda has this rare way of blending heart-pounding suspense with raw, emotional depth. When Reagan returns to Dusk Valley searching for her missing twin and runs into Finn, the man she never forgot, everything shifts. Their connection is electric but layered with pain, guilt, and longing that feels so real you can almost touch it.

Reagan completely blew me away. She’s strong, determined, and heartbreakingly human. You feel every ounce of her fear and hope as she fights to find her sister. And Finn… he’s that steady, quietly powerful kind of man who proves his love through action. Every time he showed up for her, it hit straight in the heart.

The mystery had me questioning everyone and everything. Just when I thought I knew what was happening, Amanda twisted the story in a way that made me stop and stare at the page. The tension never lets up, and the emotional stakes make every reveal hit even harder.

What I love most, though, is how much heart this book has. Beneath the danger and heartbreak, there’s this deep sense of family, loyalty, and healing that stays with you long after the last page. Distress Signal is gripping, emotional, and beautifully written. Just beautiful. 10/10. No notes.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

4.5⭐️

HOLY CRAP THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING.

my jaw has been on the floor since I finished it. Amanda, you CRUSHED it with this one! I immediately was hooked after just nine chapters and then THE ENDING?!?! I could not stop.

Finn and Reagan were everything. I loved their relationship and the way Finn was DOWN BAD and obsessed with Reagan. He would do anything and everything to keep her safe while also ensuring she had her space, validating her fears/emotions and continually showing up for her.

“I’ll always come for you.”

“I’ll always come for you,” he reminded me. “I would tear this world apart to find you, shred myself in the process if necessary. There is nowhere you could go where I wouldn’t come for you, Reagan.”

“But Finn was my soulmate. The other half of my very essence, an intrinsic component of my genetic makeup. I could live without him no more than I could live without air.”

🥹🥹🥹 my heart.

but not only was the romance spectacular, but THE SUSPENSE WAS TOP TIER. I was hoooookeeeddddd immediately. Not only did I love that vibe, but I could not get enough of the Lawless clan and all they did to help Reagan try and find her twin sister, Lainey.

And the ending?!?! DANG. I could not put my kindle down until I finished the dang thing because it was that good. I needed to know who the stalker was and how it all ended. AND LEMME TELL YA, IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!

gosh it was all so good. I enjoyed Fire Fight, but Finn and Reagan just took over the top spot, no doubt about that. butttttt i have a feeling a certain sheriff 🤭 may take that top spot whenever we get his story 🤪

thank you so much Amanda for this ARC. I absolutely devoured it and cannot wait to see what you have in store for the rest of the series ❤️‍🔥

Distress Signal is the second installment in the Dusk Valley series. I really enjoyed book one, so I set some decent expectations for book two. I'm happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised - we were given a perfect glimpse into the next steps for the Lawless kids and their mama.

Our FMC is Reagan Lindsey and I was hooked from the first pages where she meets Finn Lawless. There is a bit of a time jump and her twin sister Lainey goes missing in Dusk Valley. I did not care for how reckless she was with the way she handled her sister's things (especially the journals) and how so much time goes by without anything progressing in the case. However, given that she does not seem to trust law enforcement I suppose that tracks!

Our MMC is Finn Lawless and he is a great guy. A former Ranger whose protective side just can't help but come out. The missing twin sister does seem a little secondary when compared to the developing relationship between our beloved mains, but they deserved their happiness while waiting for all of the pieces to come together.

I am not sure how I feel about the culmination of events; it seemed like the characters involved in the final few chapters were almost indifferent about what had happened and how long Lainey was missing. Either way, I was a fan of how everything wrapped up at the end and my biggest hype was getting to see characters from the past (i.e. Owen and his little family)!

Legit, I am so excited for book three to come out - I wonder which sibling it is going to focus on!? I have a few thoughts, but I'll be waiting in suspense until then!

Thank you so much to Amanda Chaperon for the honor to be on your street/ARC team. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to read and review Distress Signal prior to publication.

Just like I expected this book is amazing. And I’ve said it before but Amanda’s romantic suspense era is IT for me! I am so invested in Dusk Valley and the Lawless family! And this one got me even more excited for what’s to come!! The Mandaverse is VAST and I’m so happy to be here!!

Finn and Reagan were the perfect one night stand, right person wrong time, missed connection…whatever you want to call it! To LOVERS! In the best way! They were GOOD! I liked that Reagan was able to find some happiness in one of the darkest times. I also appreciated seeing her struggle with that, it would have been unrealistic otherwise. And I thought Amanda wrote that so well. I really loved that Finn was ALL IN from the second he say Reagan again. He wasn’t going to let her slip away again and he put in the work to show her how much he cared about her!

The Lawless family!! I LOVE THEM! I loved seeing Crew and Aspen HAPPY! I loved seeing the other brothers and their potential perspective love interests!!?? I am very very excited for all of them honestly! I was also so happy to see Aria fight to get what she really wanted! She stood up to all her brothers! And spoke her mind! And I loved that Finn was on her side so adamantly. And Owen and Delia!!! And their baby!!

And the entire suspense aspect was SO GOOD! I just thought Amanda wrote it all so well. I was kept guessing and on the edge of my seat the entire time. And I was able to feel the tension and the fear and the mystery!

I’ve been a fan of Amanda’s forever and I’ll continue to be here!

Thanks to Amanda Chaperon for the ARC in exchange for honest review! I am feeling VERY grateful!

Once again, the new queen of romantic suspense has done it! Amanda Chaperon is seriously on a roll because Distress Signal was SO good. I was so excited to finally get Finn’s story, and it did not disappoint. Another solid romantic suspense set in Dusk Valley, Idaho with small town, ranch vibes, and all the cowboy charm you could want. 🤠

Finn Lawless, the tatted up Army vet turned rancher, was so perfect and down bad from the start. He was constantly repeating how he would always come for her, and HE DID. Like sir, please. And Reagan, the one night stand he never forgot, comes back to town on a mission to find her missing twin sister. The setup alone had me hooked, because it was very intriguing and had me wondering how it would all play out after their hook up.

I loved the tension, the danger, and the twists that kept me guessing right up until the reveal. I didn’t have a solid guess for who the bad guy was for a while, which is always a win in a suspense book. Amanda balances the action and romance perfectly, because one minute I was stressed out, the next I was giggling and smiling and kicking my feet over Finn and Reagan.

The Lawless family continues to be one of my favorite parts of this series! The dynamic between the siblings feels real and full of heart. And let’s be honest, I’m already dying for Lane’s story next. I am so on board with it being Sutton... or Addie?! I AM HERE FOR IT.

If you love small town romantic suspense with action, emotion, and a protective cowboy MMC, Distress Signal is perfect. Amanda Chaperon just keeps proving she’s the new queen of this genre. 👑

4.75 ⭐️ rounded to a 5!

Amanda might have found her niche in romantic suspense. She has the amazing ability to hit you right in the face within the first chapter with tension in all the best ways. Literally throughout this entire book I was sitting on the edge of my seat like WTF but also kicking my feet and giggling at the romance. I was BEGGING Reagan and Finn to finally give in! I was punching the air when they finally gave in!

I really adored Reagan’s character. She was an independent, misunderstood spitfire who just wanted to be love and not left (figuratively and literally). I think she will be extremely relatable to TONS of people.

Regan & Finn’s chemistry BLED off the page. I’m not usually a instaobsessed person because it never feels authentic, but this one really did. & the sexual tension and chemistry truly was weaved into each and every single scene. AND THE SPICE 🥵

Seeing sprinkles of Love on the Vine makes my heart so so happy too! As someone who adores that series it’s fun to see it slightly weaved through.

The dynamic between the siblings is also so good. You really get the family / found family ish vibes from them and i adore it. If i don’t get to read about hard ass Lane being a low key teddy bear expeditiously, i may combust.

MY ONLY qualm with this is the amount of times Regean said “Goddesses.” I loved the vibes and thought process about WHY she said it but i feel like it was said almost every chapter. It just felt a bit too much. It started taking me out of the story when it came up. Just my personal opinion, but that’s my ONLY complaint.

SO GOOD. 100% recommend.

A chance to fall in love with another Lawless brother? Oh, I am THERE! A big thank you to Amanda Chaperon for an early copy - I absolutely adore Dusk Valley and the Lawless family and am so thankful for the sneak peek! One thing I love about the Dusk Valley series is how captivating the stories and characters are. As much as I love romance novels, I've always hoped for a bit more action within the plot. Amanda Chaperon does an amazing job in bringing suspense and mystery to the romance genre. Her characters' emotions are so raw and real; love, pain, grief, hope, fear. She has a way of bringing pages and people to life.

Reagan met Finn for a one night stand and never thought she'd see him again. Seven years later, she gets a call that her twin sister's body was found in the same small town town as her short-lived romance. She might only be there for answers, but Finn Lawless isn't ready to let her go again.

Now retired from the army, Finn manages his horse ranch and relishes in family time. He might have never planned for a family of his own, but the woman who haunts his dreams has unexpectedly shown up again. Their romance blooms while the hunt for Reagan's sister takes place.

This suspenseful love story is so well written and features all of your favorite tropes: open door spice, high stakes, quick banter, second chance, instant attraction, and so many more! I do recommend looking into the trigger warnings before picking this up, as there are a few heavier subjects discussed. Overall, I really loved this book and am so looking forward to learning more about the rest of the Lawless boys!

ARC Review: 5⭐️
Distress Signal is book 2 in the Dusk Valley series featuring Finn Lawless & Reagan Lindsey.

Seven years ago, Reagan and her twin sister Lainey come to Dusk Valley and end up at a bar. During the night Reagan meets Finn, who is home on leave from the marines to celebrate his brother being named town sherif. The two spend a night together before parting ways the next morning.

Now in the present, Reagan is supposed to travel back to Dusk Valley to photograph a wedding but she winds up being sick and not able to go. Lainey goes in her place since they own a photography business together.

During the trip, Lainey vanishes causing Reagan to report her missing. After a dead body is discovered , Reagan comes to town to determine if it’s Lainey or not. While in town she reunited with Finn, and when it’s revealed the body is not Lainey’s she sticks around to locate her.

Months go by and they’re still not able to find Lainey. Reagan starts to receive threatening messages and she ends up staying with Finn for safety. Being in close proximity brings all the attraction back ten fold, but she doesn’t feel it’s the right time while her sister is still missing.

When the threats against Reagan get worse, can find and his brothers work together to solve the case and find Lainey before it’s too late ?

While this book is lighter on the spice side, it makes up for it in intensity and mystery! There’s something about those Lawless boys and I can’t wait to see who’s next !

Thank you Amanda for the ARC, I highly recommend adding this to your TBR!

I loved returning to Dusk Valley and the Lawless family. As in the previous book we have a sense of belonging, strong family bonds and brotherhood that pulls us right in.

After a trip to Dusk Valley 7 years prior and a one night stand to never forget, Reagan finds herself in that small town again, but now for all the wrong reasons. She doesn't know what happened to her sister and she needs answers.
The path to those answers leads her back to the one man she could never forget, Finn.
But, while falling for the man, those answers bring trouble and danger to all. Can she discover what happened without getting hurt herself? Or will she live in doubt without finding what she was looking for?

I loved Finn. He was the perfect balance between kind and caring and alpha and protective. Sure, Raegan was a strong and independent woman, but it was nice seeing him helping and taking care of her, even when she believed she didn't needed.
Their attraction was strong but even so, we have this perfect slow burn that melts us and makes us root for them and wishing for them to give into each other.

The danger and suspense were perfectly displayed and written and it kelp me wandering where and who could be responsible for all that.

We had some insight on the next couples, but I believe the 3rd book will be about Lane. I can't wait to see him lose his composure and give all of him to his woman (hopefully Sutton).

As much as I wanted to like this one it just really fell short for me.

I loved the first book in this series and was so excited to be back in Dusk Valley with the Lawless crew.

Reagan and Finn’s romance was just not convincing to me. It was written almost like a second chance romance when they literally hooked up for ONE night SEVEN years ago but they made it seem like they had all this history and was so insta-love (which is fine in an actual second chance romance not when you had a one night stand and you see her again 7 years later and are immediately in love with her and know her).

It also felt way too similar to the first book for me. Outsider comes to town, they’re hurt/threatened in some way, forced proximity with a Lawless brother, same thing. I always enjoy seeing the other Lawless siblings and for the way Aspen was included it was strange she wasn’t ACTUALLY included. I felt like we should’ve seen on page Reagan meeting with her as a PI to get her help with her sister’s case but no.

Also personally I just cannot stand the nickname “solider” so that immediately gave me the ick.

The spice was good and I was surprised by who the “bad guy” ended up being but really the Lawless family is what carried this book for me. Looking forward to reading about Trey or Lane I hope one of their books are next.

Thank you to Amanda Chaperon for an ARC of this book!
