A young man swears vengeance on the draconic warrior woman who laid waste to his entire village. But in order to claim it, he’ll have to seek training… from the warrior woman herself.

To kill the monster, he must become one too.

The sole survivor of a ruthless massacre, a young man swears vengeance on the draconic warrior woman responsible. Perhaps out of pity, perhaps out of malice, she agrees to train him until he’s strong enough to stand a chance against her. As time passes and they journey together across an inhospitable landscape, each finds themself changed by the presence of the other. When the time comes, will he still want to claim his vengeance? Will she let him?

Ferocious is epic fantasy on an intimate scale, a revenge thriller like no other, one that stirs the heart as it goes for the jugular.

This was a fun, albeit gory road trip from a small village to a coastal town. It’s a book with a lot of hidden depth as two very disparate people meet and become entangled in one another’s lives. “Wren” goes from being an angry boy to being an angry young man, but the focus of his anger goes from being tightly focused to being more diffuse as he gets to know the person behind the monster who destroyed his village and killed countless humans.

The feral, the horned and scaled woman Wren wants to kill, is bitter and jaded, ruthless and wounded. There are hints to the life she lost and why she wants to reach the ocean. Ostensibly it’s to find and conquer some mysterious islands, but as the book goes on the islands feel more like a dream, a goal simply because she has nothing else to look for.

The art is lovely and the splashes of gore are very comic book esque. Vivid reds and sound effects, but no lingering on bodies — or parts of bodies. Instead the focus is the action; how strong the feral woman is, how fast, how human weapons don’t touch her … until they do.

This in an interesting comic and I wish it were longer. There is so much story in this brief book, and so little answered because the feral isn’t interested in sharing her life’s story, being only intent on her goal. Thank you so very much to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC.

Well shit, this is a dark, kind of fucked up, but really interesting take on the tried and true formula of revenge and bonding.

The story kicks off with a massive gut-punch: a young boy watches his entire village get slaughtered by a Feral, a draconic, towering warrior woman from a distant war. He’s the sole survivor, and in the wreckage of his life, he makes an impossible oath of revenge. But because he's just a kid with no hope of killing a monster like her, they end up in this twisted mentorship where she agrees to train the very person sworn to kill her.

They bond through that revenge as they journey south across a brutal, war-torn landscape. It feels very much like Vinland Saga, with some Berserk and God of War vibes throughout.

I really liked the emotional layers here, the weight of the oath, the feel of the world building as they explore, and the complicated respect (and hate) building between the two. You can see the self hatred building inside the Feral woman as she shapes the boy into a predator. It’s a dark, fucked up tale that explores the line between being a person and being a monster.

It felt a bit rushed at certain points, but overall it’s a great, gritty read. A 4 out of 5.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this graphic novel!

Art: ★★★★★
Story/Events: ★★★★☆
Characters: ★★★★☆
Conclusion: ★★★★☆

Ferocious is a 5-issue graphic novel about a young boy who witnesses the massacre of his village by one they call a Feral, red-skinned warriors with horns and dragon blood in their veins. But in his attempt to seek revenge, the Feral ends up training him instead until he is ready for the day to come.

The cover art is pretty cool and inside, the art absolutely delivers on the action-packed story of Wren and the Feral warrior woman. The backgrounds really set the atmosphere for the story and the colors are vibrant and so pleasing to look at!

The premise hooked me in and the lil bits of worldbuilding sprinkled in between chapters kept the story interesting. I also wish we’d have gotten more backstory from the Feral warrior. She’s a badass character and I felt like she’s got a tragic backstory within her somewhere. I can definitely see this comic spanning 12 issues just for world-building alone. Kudos to the team for this awesome story!

Wren survives the slaughter of his village and vows revenge on the draconic warrior woman who did it. Instead of killing him, she trains him. If he wants vengeance, he has to become just as monstrous.

The art is great. It’s sharp, dynamic, and brutal. The action scenes go hard, page after page, with nonstop carnage. It’s visually impressive and easily the best part of the book.

Story-wise, it’s thinner. The relationship between Wren and his mentor-enemy never gets as deep as it could, and the emotional beats don’t really land. There’s also a weird time skip near the end and a disappointing finale that was, probably, supposed to be meaningful..

Read it for gorgeous art and relentless action. If you want strong character work or emotional payoff, you won't find it here.

I started reading this fantasy comic out of curiosity, drawn in by a character who immediately reminded me of Karlach.

I really liked the concept of an avenger pursuing the object of his vengeance and the neurotic bond that develops between the killer and this child whose entire world has been destroyed. Unfortunately, the relationship lacks depth and the jump in time doesn't help matters.

Feral's past is revealed in small doses, through subtle clues, without being heavy-handed or unnecessary exposition, and without words per se.

Finally, the action and violence were very well rendered graphically, with plenty of blood and power from the horned giantess.

I'd give it a modest 7/10.

Well I gotta say yall, I had found this quite tense with a big warrior girl killing everyone she meets and training an innocent boy Wren to create an even more bloodbath! It was neither cute or emotional folks, it was just complete carnage in every page youd can’t keep up. You don’t even know if you’re rooting for her or the boy, it was literally a crazy read. Now I will add, the ending was questionable and all I’m getting is just killing withnot really character building here and there was even a pointless timeskip as well. It’s a alright read to waste time on but all you’re getting is a complete library of gore tbh..

Got this via publisher and Netgalley with thanks

Thank you to Netgalley and Mad Cave Studios for a digital copy of this graphic novel in exchange for my review!

This graphic novel made me feel like I was in an RPG game. I enjoyed the setup of the graphic novel and the interesting storyline of training your own killer. I liked how morally grey the feral character was. I also enjoy that there isn't such a focus on a wholesome storyline, and that the characters' actions, I think, reflect more realistic decisions. I wish there were more background on the war; it is hardly mentioned, and I would have loved to see more backstory to fill out the narrative.

This was surprisingly pretty good. It's about this woman of a demon like race that is fighting humans in a fantasy world. She comes in and wipes out an entire village except for one boy who she takes with her and teaches to fight. Then they go on the road causing mayhem. I would have liked more as to motivations but it's a cool book. The art is good too. I'd never heard of the cover artist but they were fantastic.

A dark action packed read. The story is full of action and fast paced. The characters are well-done and the author takes time to establish a bond between them. This is the first book, and I cannot wait for the second one. The artwork does an extremely good job in supporting the plot and does a great job highlighting the point of the scene.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
