Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb, Vol. 2: Last Sacrament

n partnership with Massive Monster and Devolver Digital, the record-setting comic book expansion of Cult of the Lamb returns with its long-awaited, world-ending climax from writer Alex Paknadel (Astonishing X-Men) and artist Troy Little (Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons)!

In the aftermath of their first and closest follower’s sacrifice, glorious but disillusioned cult leader Lamb continues to wage war against the remaining three ruthless Bishops of the Old Faith—but they lack the conviction to tend their growing flock back at the cult. More followers are rescued by the day, but with no one to indoctrinate them, Lamb’s power stagnates and the One Who Waits becomes weary of his earthly vessel’s resistance to the full power and responsibility of the Red Crown. When a challenger for the crown’s divine power emerges from within the cult, a violent schism further weakens Lamb’s crusade. Former vessel and kindly caretaker Ratau intercedes in defense of his dear leader, Lamb, who must finally decide if they will embrace the power of the Red Crown or abandon their quest . . . and their remaining, loyal followers.

I don't know how to explain, but I think I might be in my sheep era. I read the first volume of Cult of the Lamb, immediately picked up the game again and now I've been obsessively playing it ever since. Then I've really enjoyed the Sheep Detectives movie recently and on my way to work I pass meadows full of sheep and little lambs every day. I feel like they are following me everywhere. Maybe I'm soon indoctrinated into their society. Anyway. This comic book series continues to be a great adaptation of the video game. It's really nailing the look and the tone of the original, which is delightfully occult. The story mostly follows the main quest in the game, but it adds some character development into the mix. This second volume focuses on followers of the Cult of the Lamb losing their faith in their leader, and it was quite infuriating and pretty relatable for players of the game. I'm constantly going out, crusading the lands of the heretics and collecting food and other resources for my cult, and my followers still have the nerve to rebel and complain. You know how it is. Same as the game, this volume moves super fast and I was surprised to see that the main story basically got wrapped up here. I don't know if there will be a third volume, but there sure is some plot left, especially with all the content that got added through DLC. I'm currently playing Woolhaven and I'm pleasantly surprised by the extensive new story. This was great and I really don't have much more to say about volume two, so I'm leaving you with a list of my top ten follower forms instead:

- Llama
- Red Panda
- Schnauzer
- Jackalope
- Cow
- Deer
- Squirrel
- Bat
- Badger
- Alpine Ibex

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for providing a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

A faithful retelling of the game’s overarching story with an interesting adaption to the story back at the lamb’s cult.

As with the game the art style is so cute. If you liked the game, you will likely enjoy this or vice versa.

I think the ending may split opinion, although I personally enjoyed it. I understand it’s approach to cover all possible endings from the game and encourage the reader to see their playthrough’s ending as canon/encourage the reader to play the game’s multiple endings

I have not played through the entire game, but I can see how this graphic novel ties into the video game. I wish the lamb wasn't so bent on revenge, but considering how the lamb can be played in different ways based on the player's choices, this is one way to play the character. I'm not sure if there will be a third volume, but I wouldn't be opposed to another one.

So I've been into COTL for about two years (I was so excited for Woolhaven to drop and took two three to fours days to clear so much of the DLC) After finishing this, I think it's overall pretty faithful (heh) to the game's charms, with mostly understandable deviations.

The main of course being Lamb can't be wholly a blank slate to project onto. Lamb here is much grouchier than in game, grieving for the follower OC that perished at the end of the first volume. I still don't give much of a fuck about Nana, and I'll admit it rubs me a little bit the wrong way to ultimately suggest that she is what is so foundational to Lamb deciding there must be mercy instead of what the old faith preached.

In a way I think this part of the comic is symptomatic of so many players trying to have their cake and eat it too and act like they're completely moral cult leaders. Which MM even mocked in a Youtube short on why a Woolhaven character isn't recruitable to the cult, even if you believe you're 'not like other cult leaders.'

Still, my minor quibbles with the specter of Nana aside, I quite enjoyed this comic. I enjoyed the references to all sorts of things like cultists eating poop (here because they're in a famine), cultists who rebel against Lamb and cause issues, the cartoonish blood of Lamb's battles. And I overall do like the messaging/conclusion Lamb comes to about how ALL the bishops of the Old Faith must die for something new and better to truly be built... I just roll my eyes at the stumbling blog of what Nana's ideals were a bit.

And how can I not love something that gives me a panel of Lamb and Narinder getting married as one of the possible outcomes of the final battle? Truly MM knows their fanbase.

As I said in my review of the first volume, I truly do still think there is a lot of potential in comics set in this verse. And I think this one does an even better job than the previous one did of showing the adventures the setting has to offer, the dynamic art that can be created.

Cult of the Lamb, Volume 2: Last Sacrament made me want to play the game as soon as possible. It completely sold me on the idea of building my own cult, gathering followers, managing resources, finding food, and taking on the gods that shape this strange and dangerous world. The comic does an excellent job of making the game's universe feel compelling and alive, even for readers who haven't played it.

One of the highlights for me was the artwork. The art in both volumes is absolutely gorgeous, full of personality and detail, and it perfectly captures the balance between cute and unsettling that makes Cult of the Lamb so distinctive. While I found the first volume more emotional and impactful than the second, I still enjoyed the story overall. My biggest issue with Last Sacrament is its ending. It feels very open-ended, and rather than providing a satisfying conclusion. Some readers may enjoy that approach, but I found it frustrating because I was hoping for a proper ending to the story. That said, I sincerely hope we'll get a third volume someday that can bring this narrative to a more definitive conclusion.

Despite my disappointment with the ending, I still think this comic is well worth reading. Whether you're already a fan of the video game or you've never touched it, there's plenty to enjoy here. At its core, it's a story about friendship, devotion, and staying true to your own morals and principles. It also explores the dangers of manipulation and the importance of thinking for yourself rather than blindly following others.

CULT OF THE LAMB – VOLUME 2 – THE LAST SACRAMENT

Written by – Alex Paknadel

Illustrations by – Troy Little

‘In the aftermath of their first and closest follower’s sacrifice, glorious but disillusioned cult leader Lamb continues to wage war against the remaining three ruthless Bishops of the Old Faith—but they lack the conviction to tend their growing flock back at the cult. More followers are rescued by the day, but with no one to indoctrinate them, Lamb’s power stagnates and the One Who Waits becomes weary of his earthly vessel’s resistance to the full power and responsibility of the Red Crown.

Another gore-filled-fun-fest wherein a challenger for the crown’s divine power forces Lamb to fight formidable foes and their minions.

The Ending—My Heart!

Now, as I mentioned in my review of volume one, I have yet to play the video game Cult Of Lamb, but that is going to get remedied soon!

Again, the artwork is *chef’s kiss*

Thank you, NetGalley and Oni Press, Massive Monster, and Devolver Digital, for providing me with an eBook ARC of CULT OF THE LAMB – VOLUME 2 – THE LAST SACRAMENT at the request of an honest review.

Recommend!

If you've played Cult of the Lamb before and love the art style, you will love this story! I have to admit, I haven't read volume 1 and I have a couple of hours into the game, but cannot say that I have finished it. Yet all the charm that the game has - despite its grusome theme - comes back in this graphic novel. From the artstyle to the humour. I can see this sort of thing happening at the "base camp" (my term for it). I also thought the addition of the card reader at the beginning was a great way of recapping (I think) of what happened in the first volume. Although I would recommend reading the first novel because I can imagine it's as fun, it's not completely necessary.
The hunt on the bishops were the weakest points of this story for me. It feels repetitive and I understand how it's needed and how well it works in the game, it doesn't really for this book. They have big words, Lamb slashes them to bits, and done. I was more interested about what was going on back "home".
Again, if you love the game or are familiar with its concept and are interested, I would recommend this graphic novel!

Thank you Netgalley and Oni Press for providing the ebook!

A sacrificial lamb becomes the center of their own religion:
A comic adaptation of the video game, Cult of the Lamb, and this sequel concludes the struggle of the Lamb with the remaining foes of the old belief, after having suffered their own tragedy which has shaken up their faith. Furthermore, an internal schism inside the cult begins to grow without them knowing.

Recommend for fans of the game. The art and its scene composition is the comic's highlight and a joy to behold. Less favourable remains the story: While the cult's developing conflict together with the protagonist's growing disillusionment is intriguing, the remaining part of the story is a quick slaughter of the game's bosses and misses capitalizing more on its lore and moral ambiguity.
The ending, withholding spoilers, only works with the reader's knowledge of the game, else it would have left an unfinished feeling.

It's fun enough for familiar readers. Thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for an ALC for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had read the first volume of this series when it was released two years ago and when I saw the second volume was coming out, I simply had to pick it up and was overjoyed to be approved f0r an ARC. We continue following Lamb, their cult and its various members in this. Lamb falls into a more or less healthy obsession with defeating the Old Gods and I loved how recognizable the characters were when you had played the game. I also really enjoyed having both Lamb's perspective on their crusade and fight against the Old Gods and the perspective on the cult members and what happened back at camp. I also liked the diversity in attitudes to Lamb, the cult and faith as well as Ratau and Lamb's diverging ways of dealing with grief.

The art is, simply said, stunning and if you like the style of the video game, you will love the style of this. I think the comic-ization of the game works incredibly well and I for one am very keen on reading the next installment in the future.

First off, many thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this graphic novel as an eARC! I greatly appreciate it!

Like I mentioned in my review of the first part of this series, I haven't played the game, but hearing it described as Satanic Animal Crossing got my attention, so I absolutely needed to read these! And I'm so, so lucky I got a chance to grab this one as an ARC!

As with the last volume, the art is gorgeous, the story is super interesting, and it's so much fun to follow Lamb on their crusade! I'm a little annoyed by the ending, though I get why it had to be that way, given it's based on a video game and the whole point is to entice people to play their own way, so I'll be nice and won't dock a star for it.

Five out of five stars to Cult of the Lamb: The Last Sacrament!

I am obsessed with Cult of the Lamb. Such an amazing and unique game that it’s only natural that I ventured into the comics of it. The comic follows the main storyline in the game, the Lamb fighting the bishops but adds a deeper story. While the Lamb had essentially lost themselves after the sacrifice of one of their most devoted followers the cult starts to fall to shambles after the bishops curse it. The comic adds more depth to the game which only enhances the overall story of the Lamb. I devoured this comic quickly, it was easy to follow and read. The art was gorgeous, I’ll never get over it. Reading this had me going back to my game file and continuing right where I left off. I honestly can’t wait for the comic series to be over because I’ll be adding this to my shelf.

What do you say about an adaptation that does exactly what it says in the tin--and with sumptuous care and love paid to every panel along the way? If you're already a fan of the source content, I think you were already tipping on the side of Buy for these graphic novels, and you should absolutely follow that instinct. I don't think I've ever seen boss battles rendered visually this effectively since CastleVania. Just excellent stuff all around.
If you're stumbling upon this without having any awareness of the game? First, I don't think you actually exist and are a figment of my imagination, which is quite rude, but second, go play the game. If it strikes you the way it has so many other gamers, then add this to your collection rounding out the story more fully for yourself.

The story in volume 2 picks up straight after the events of volume 1, with Lamb dealing with the aftermath of Nana's death. While Lamb was the star of volume 1, he's undoubtedly the anti-hero of volume 2. The storyline wonderfully highlights the issues you try to avoid while playing the game, providing real repercussions if you don't balance your cult successfully. Although completely viable to read if you haven't played it, these graphic novels are an incredible extension and truly add to the experience of playing.

A game renowned for its fun, throwaway cruelty suddenly has a lot more heart underneath!

The return of the Lamb , the remaining Bishops, and 'The One Who Waits' is just as fun and morbid as the original. This second volume is the finale, but leaves space for any continuations. Following the plot of the games, this is perfect for those who don't want to grind through a roguelike, cult-simulator. The artwork remains faithful and adds that extra dimension to pulls readers into the story. Short compared to some volumes, but what it lacks in length it makes up for it in the schism within the Lamb's cult. Containing to special issues, this is a perfect companion for those who enjoyed the first volume and series like "Dwellings" and the Archie horror comics.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc!

Volume two picks up where the last left off, with Lamb taking vengeance on his enemies to ignore his emotions about the loss of his closest follower. Whom he loved. While away, a blight faces his cult, leading to a fractioning of the group into two, with a false leader drawing them away.

The graphic novel is a lovely adaptation of the game to a book format, and appears to end around the end of the main game. I appreciate the ending being vague, to match the choice options you get at the end of the game itself. It you enjoy the game, you'll likely enjoy this book as well.

If you loved the game, you'll love this book - or at the very least, enjoy it. The art is GORGEOUS. I kept flipping back through pages just to take it in. The central theme of heresy was so interesting to me as you really only get blips of it in the game. Honestly, some of the scenes were tear jerkers to me (Lamb returning to the temple scene) just cause it was SO sad. And getting to see the Old Gods conniving behind the scenes was the cherry on top.

Thank you so much for this advance copy!

***ARC from NetGalley***

This is the second and final (?) edition in the Cult of the Lamb series, which is based on a video game.

Although I was unfamiliar with both the game and the first volume, this is easy to follow/catch up.

Lamb has a mission - to remove the four bishops and free the one who is chained. The story is told in bold, energetic panels. The action pops off of the page. This is a violent story and some of the graphics may be too much for a sensitive reader, but comparatively speaking, it is not that bad.

This story goes really well with the video game and would be a great read for anyone who is already a fan or is thinking about playing the game.

It gives you another perspective on the world and characters, allowing you to connect with characters you’ll love and others you may not like as much. You also get to see more of the main character’s struggles and the challenges they face throughout the story.

The art is also very well done and stays close to the style and feel of the video game, making it a great addition to the overall experience.

Thank you Alex Paknadel and Troy Little for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The artwork is stunning, and an interesting mix of cute and gore as always. It's not exactly like the game, but the characters have more emotion and depth to them. It was a really fun read, and makes me itch to play the game. It's a fun read that helps fill out the lore and story a bit more.

I received this DRC from NetGalley.

I liked the art style. The story felt a little rushed and not as emotionally intriguing as the first volume. I liked the game play elements and different characters that were included. I probably would have preferred this not all being stuffed into this volume so that we could have seen some of the other locations and also make the battles feel heavier. I still enjoyed it, though.

The Lamb is back, and their quest for vengeance for their friend keeps them away from their flock, leading to turmoil from within.
I love the art and the colors of these, and the story is easy to follow and a great time, even if you haven't played any of the game. It felt a bit rushed at the end and like it was the end of the story, but I wish I could read more volumes.

I rated it 3.5/5 rounded up to 4 stars.

A real fun and good continuation! I hope there is more in the future because I feel like this one moved way to fast :/
I believe I mentioned in the first volume that it has some resemblance to Berserk and it still holds here and it’s so cool. On the outside of Lambs crusade we see how the cult lives and moves on and it’s been my favorite part. That’s another reason why I hope this story continues.

Really fun adaptation of the game. I feel like Lamb, in this narrative, is a little harsher than the one I played; however, I understand that the story of CotL is a lot darker than the way I played it, and this story focuses more on the betrayals that can exist within the cult. You can read this book without playing the game, but these are also best enjoyed understanding what you are looking at.

This story went down a pretty dark path. The colorful and gory illustrations did a lot to keep my interest, especially in the pages that still had empty speech bubbles.

These 2 oversized one-shots finish the story of the video game. The Lamb is off killing the bad guys while his cult in fights at home. This is such a strange story and world.
