Scotland’s most magical small town is back as another MacGregor witch takes the spotlight in this follow-up to the “heartwarming, delightful, and enchanting” (Sarah Beth Durst, New York Times bestselling author) national bestseller Love’s a Witch.
She’s hexed. He’s her ex. And if they can’t bake in harmony, Briarhaven’s big cooking competition might just go up in smoke.
Lyra MacGregor’s magic is as unpredictable as her love life—especially when her spellwork starts misfiring during the filming of Briarhaven’s favorite reality TV Bewitching Bake-Off. Even worse? She’s paired with Rabbie Campbell, her high school sweetheart turned heartbreak.
He’s never baked a thing in his life. She turns spoons into hedgehogs when he’s nearby. But with the cameras rolling, the curse deepening, and old sparks reigniting, they’ll have to cook up more than just a winning cake to survive. Because in Briarhaven, baking is spellwork, and love is the trickiest recipe of all.

Whimsical, cozy, and charming! A Taste of Magic is a joy to read! This is a second book in a series and while it can be read as a standalone, you will get a deeper understanding of the characters and over arching plot if you read them in order. Having read the first book prior to this, I absolutely loved returning to this world!
Lyra is our FMC, and the second sister in a trio of sisters that are cursed. They recently returned to the hometown in efforts to break their family’s curse and return the town to normal. Lyra loves baking and has entered her favorite reality bake off show in hopes to keep growing. But things get messy when her magic arrives and is not working properly. Add in that she is paired with her ex and things really start heat up in the kitchen! Rab, our MMC, is a town accountant and Lyra past love. He talked into doing the baking show to help the town but is surprised to learn he is paired with the one person he avoids at all cost. These two both hold secrets and hurts that get in the way of things. Can they move past it in time for the show and to save the town?
Thank you NetGalley, Gallery Books, and Tricia O’Malley for this eARC!
I was able to read an Advanced Reader Copy of this title thanks to Netgalley and Gallery Books.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Love's a Witch, so I was excited to read this second installment featuring the middle sister, Lyra.
Lyra is a loveable chef who has always made the best of their family's curse. When she and her sisters returned to their magical Scottish hometown with the goal of finally setting down actual roots and breaking the curse that has plagued their family for generations, she is forced to come face to face with her teenage love, Rab. Lyra and Rab have never really gotten over one another, but their final encounter that broke both of their hearts appears to be a misunderstanding. When Lyra and Rab are forced to team up on a popular baking show, they have to face their past and finally communicate what happened many years ago.
This one is cozy and sweet. I would have liked a little more about the curse in this one, and I felt like there were a number of unanswered questions, but I will certainly pick up book three when it comes out to see if all of my questions are answered.
I’m not usually a fan of the second chance trope, but this was so well done. I really enjoyed seeing Rab and Lyra come back to one another while competing in the baking show. Ruth is a perfect familiar and I loved her spunk!

My opinion: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, especially the magical aspects (town, creatures, people, bake off reality TV show, etc). Another great installment in the Scottish Charms series! I recommend this book to all who love cozy romantic fantasies. #bookstagram #booklovers #romancebooks #fantasybooks #cozy

We're back in Briarhaven, this time focusing on the second MacGregor sister, Lyra, as she finally confronts the family curse.
Lyra's favorite place is in the kitchen, so when she finds out her favorite magical baking show is filming their holiday special in town, she signs up. The only hiccup is that her new magic doesn't work properly.
Oh, and that she's been paired up with her teenage sweetheart, Rabbie.
This book is a dual POV so the reader gets both sides of what happened when Lyra and Rabbie were meant to run away together. And even though it’s been years, they’ve never gotten over each other.
I like that for this second chance romance, Lyra and Rabbie focus on who they are now (versus their teenage selves). And even though there’s still hurt feelings and insecurities, we get to watch them fall in love again.
This book felt sweeter than the previous book but I think that makes sense seeing as it follows Lyra. And even as Lyra and Rabbie are vulnerable, there are lots of funny parts, too. Like how as Lyra struggles to get her magic under control, there are mishaps involving hedgehogs and big messes in the kitchen.
Also, I would totally watch this magical baking show it if were real.
Anyway, I loved the little peeks at Sloan and Knox being happy together and omg I cannot wait for book 3!
*can be a standalone but this is a fun series so I highly recommend book 1!*
This was a bazillion times more cute than I had originally expected. I loved how fun the story was surrounding the romance just as much as I loved Lyra and Rab. It also is dual POV so that just added to the experience. I had a cheesy smile the whole way through because I loved it. I couldn't stop reading once I started. I really loved the magic element to the story. I'll have to go back and read the previous ones. All of the side characters were so charming and lovely. They both had such cool friend groups and in Lyra's case her sisters. The solutions to solving everything was clever and the story was well written. Miscommunication can be so frustrating but the way it was handled at the end was way too cute and worth reading through it. There's a second chance romance that worked really well and I love that it rebuilds who they are now versus focusing on who they once were. Also cute hedgehogs. Cute and hilarious familiars. Like this was just purely adorable with some sass and banter. And a story that had all the charm despite everything going wrong due to the curse.
I really appreciate Gallery gifting me a copy. Such a fun and warm story that deserves all the hype.
Thank you so much to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an eARC of A Taste of Magic by Tricia O'Malley. This book is basically Holiday Baking Championship with magic, a curse, relationship drama, and the same magical mayhem that was so fun in Love's a Witch. It was so fun to go back to Briarhaven and meet up with all of the characters from Love's A Witch again. This time Lyra, the second MacGregor sister, has come into her magic and it is out of control. When a magical baking competition comes to town chaos ensues as the Charms work to stop the curse and protect the town.
A Taste of Magic was so cute and cozy! Hands down my favorite part of this book was the hedgehogs. I am pretty sure I am going to giggle every time I see a hedgehog from now on! I really enjoyed the whimsical setting and characters in the book. I already love anything set in Scotland and when you add magic and a cute love story it can't get much better.
The second chance romance was so cute. Lyra and Rab partnering for the baking competition and learning that they have each changed since they were teenagers was so fun to read. I really enjoyed their story and how they fell back in love with each other as the story continued. I also really enjoyed seeing Sloane and Knox happy. One of my favorite things about interconnected standalones is getting to check in with previous characters. The ending seemed to wrap up a little quickly but I can't wait to see how they solve the curse in the next book.
Overall, A Taste of Magic was such a cute and cozy book. It is the perfect book to curl up with on a rainy day and I can't wait to see what's next for the MacGregor sisters!
A Taste Of Magic is a romantic, witty, cozy, and charming read! This book releases on 08/25/26 and it is a follow-up to Love's A Witch but can be read as a standalone. I have not read many romantasies and never a witch romance so it was exciting to try something new. This book had all the hallmarks of a good romance with many tropes I love; second chances, grumpy versus sunshine, and competition. The magical elements in this book made the rivalry between the two main characters incredibly fun and unique. I enjoyed the fantasy aspects of this book much more than I anticipated. Not to mention the sister bond which I love to see! This was a different read for me but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend reading this book whether you already love romantasy or are looking to branch out.
A Taste of Magic was such a fun second chance romance and I loved returning to Briarhaven. Lyra is the second MacGregor sister and once again trying to break her part of the curse that was placed on their family years ago. She signs up to be on a baking reality show and is partnered with her high school ex, Rab. Rab and Lyra have difficulty in the show, because she does not have control of her magic. Things also keep happening in the town. Will Lyra, the Charms and Rab be able to get the town out of the darkness and will Lyra and Rab be able to mend what happened between them years ago?
I love this series! I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see who we get to see next from the Charms!
Thank you Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I won an Advance Reader's Edition. An enchanting novel, A Taste of Magic by Tricia I'm alley transports readers to a charming town in Scotland where curses keep life unpredictable and live is spellbinding. Readers are mesmerized by the unique setting, captivated by the details of life in a magical town. The characters are distinctive and humorous. And two plotlines keep readers riveted. Will the residents be able to undo the curse literally hanging over them? And will Lyra and Rab forgive each other and create a new relationship? Thrown in is a televised baking competition that adds to the pressures felt by the characters and the delights experienced by the reader, and the result is a truly bewitching book! Readers will want to revisit Briarhaven again soon!
It was such a treat to travel back to Briarhaven for the second installment of this series! As someone who grew up on those holiday food network shows and cozy holiday movies, this story felt so nostalgic and fun! The familiars are so silly and loyal to their people! They add a lot levity and joy to these books! I also love a second chance romance so this was right up my alley! The magic feels fun and quirky while the relationships, especially the familial relationships feel authentic and refreshing. O’Malley doesn’t shy away from creating characters with depth and past traumas, rather she has her characters embrace those challenges! A Taste of Magic is a great book for those who want a cozy, fun, romantic, and magical read!
Thank you to Gallery Books for providing me with a gifted ebook copy of A Taste of Magic through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
A Taste of Magic had all of my favorite things…witches, Scotland, cooking, and cute familiars! This series is so fun, and I loved getting Lyra’s story after Sloane’s in book one. The second chance romance was sweet and spicy and Lyra & Rab’s forced proximity was chef’s kiss!
The curse affecting the MacGregor’s and the chaos it unleashed on Briarhaven and the coven, brought great tension to the story. And the highlight of the book is the adorable group of familiars and Ruth the fluttermouse stole the show in this book!

There’s a great set up at the end of the book for Nova’s story and I can’t wait to get back to the series with book three!
“ She’s hexed. He’s her ex. And if they can’t bake in harmony, Briarhaven’s big cooking competition might just go up in smoke.”
Wow! I loved this second book in the Scottish Charms series! It was a quick and easy read that I couldn’t put down. I love how the characters are becoming more with each book. I want to visit Briarhaven so bad, it sounds like a wonderful place. I would highly recommend this book and the first one as well. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Out August 25th
I liked A Taste of Magic but I think I preferred the first book more. I love GBBO and loved the baking show aspect of it. I found Lyra to be charming and lovely! I love this setting so much and will definitely read the next book in the series. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Great fun to be back in magical Briarhaven with the sisters and crew in tow. Cozy, spicy, magic vibes and written with great snark and intelligence. Perfect for fall or winter (or the terrible heat wave we're working through this summer to take me away!) I know there's a third and I can't wait to get my hands on it next year! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
4.5 - Tricia O'Malley is my comfort author. I love her whimsical writing. You feel connected to the characters and story. I enjoyed Lyra's and Rab's story of second chances and also in believing in yourself.
Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read an ARC copy.
Baking and misfiring magic, sign me up! This book is so fun! Second chances, hot Scots, and a stabby little purple Fluttermouse! I love the sibling dynamics and all of the fun, magical animal characters that are in this series. Grab this book and a snack!
Solid romance that kind of feels like it started with a few solid tropes (magic, second chance romances, Scotland, Great British Bake Off) and built it out from there. It's a bit twee at times, but it's fairly solid if you like het romance. Second book in a series, so there were a few things I missed, but it's not particularly dire. Enjoyable read, worth at least a library read.
