Selin hates Tristan. For nearly a decade, he’s been the thorn in her side—a man born of common blood yet wielding power no such lineage should ever possess. He mocks the crown, topples thrones, and thrives on chaos. And yet, when his darkness wraps around her, it feels dangerously like home.
When the king’s life hangs by a thread, Selin is forced into an impossible quest that could save the realm or destroy it. And her only ally is the one man she should never trust.
Old bargains resurface, thrones crack, and monsters are rarely meant to be tamed. In a world where power is the most coveted prize, love might be the most dangerous currency of all.
A tale of power, betrayal, and a forbidden love that burns brightest in the dark.
I absolutely loved that the FMC is strong and kick ass in her own right, I loved the switch up having the woman as commander of the kings guards! She’s intelligent, witty and takes no prisoners especially towards the MMC. Who doesn’t love a shadow daddy MMC 👌🏻.
I loved that the relationship between the MCs didn’t feel forced, it was believable and you felt the relationship grow throughout the book.
I enjoyed the story and the scenes of the MCs on their adventure together, in the cabin and the siren pool scene were amazing.
The ending absolutely had me shook, I thought I knew where it was going and then whaaaaaaaat?! Did not expect that. What a cliffhanger.
Selin and Tristan absolutely own the page. She’s a total badass and he’s absolutely swoon-worthy. And the banter?? Unreal. Their bickering had me grinning like an idiot more times than I can count.
Also… Baron. The best sidekick pet companion ever. I would die for him 🥹
The pacing was so good! Very immersive, easy to sink into, and the writing just flows. And that ending? I didn’t see it coming at all. Completely caught me off guard and left me speechless in the best way.
I absolutely adored the banter that was in this novel as well as the one liners that the characters would say!
My favourite character in the story has to be Baron! He is such a menace, but I adore him so much!
The vibes from this book was immaculate and very whimsical! (I am completely obsessed) and I did not see the plot twist coming nor the end of the book! I had my own theories and I was half correct, but I need the second book ASAP!
I would highly recommend this book if you enjoyed the Once Upon a Broken Heart series! 🩷
A really good book, but came with a few kinks in my opinion. I loved that Selin was this strong independent woman, but I can’t help but feeling like she wasn’t very strong around Tristan. I kind of expected better fights between them, but despite that I did really enjoy reading this book and look forward to the next in the series

It’s finally up! 💖 I poured my heart into this book and I just hope it makes you giggle and kick your feet... Until you’re staring at the last page, gasping. Hihi
I enjoyed this book, they were just some things that irked me a little. But apart from that I really enjoyed this story! I loved the fact that our MMC was giving Flynn Rider from tangled, and I loved his shadow cat companion Barron. Also, I love an enchanted castle that gave off Hogwarts vibe!! I’m a bit conflicted about how I feel towards Selin, but at the same time I love to see character development throughout a series.
Overall, I enjoyed this story and I really can’t wait for the next to book come out. I recommend people pick up this book because it was so fun! Also, that cover is gorgeous and I saw that the author drew it herself and wow she is so talented!
Tristan and Selin had some great moments on their journey together. Admittedly there were some formatting and editing errors, but overall great bones for a Romantasy series. It ends on a cliffhanger so I'm looking forward to the next one.
