Whether they actively consider this or not, [by going on the show] every cast member constructs a permanent, semi-clothed monument to the person who thought it would be a good idea to go on Love Island.

Well, confession. I have never seen and don't ever want to see a single second of Love Island. I don't like reality shows -- I'd even dare to say I HATE romance reality shows -- but I do like the behind-the-scenes scoop.

I like knowing how, exactly, reality shows/competition shows are constructed and filmed and edited, contestants' and producers' honest experiences, how often they were left "on ice," when they could access the outside world, so on, so forth. So I'd hoped this would talk more about the nuts and bolts and real life fallout of participating in these shows.

But it kinda ended up being more like an extended recap of notable Love Island moments and relationships...? The recaps were surrounded by context that wasn't directly on screen, yes, but they didn't lend very much? Not really revealing, not really shocking, not really informative. I know I was probably missing a lot of investment here because I don't watch the show, though I'm not sure how much this would teach a fan that following the contestants on their social media wouldn't.

Regardless, Peele has some fantastic non-fiction prose, with some honestly hilarious and colourful descriptions of "characters" and "scenes" from the show. Maybe I haven't seen Love Island, but I could imagine everything perfectly. There's a reason I sped through this despite my lack of knowledge.

As a longtime Love Island fan, Enter the Villa was fascinating. Hearing from production about the stereotypes of various characters on the show, how the show morphed over time, and how the show became the mega popular force it is today was incredibly interesting. It truly was a look behind the scenes that I’d never had before reading this book.

This book takes readers through all the seasons of the original Love Island in the UK, as well as Love Island USA. It documented individual experiences and highlighted moments from each season that made the show what it is today. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the ways that care for the islanders has grown and changed over time, as well as the honesty from various islanders over the course of the show’s many seasons about their lived experiences.

Enter the Villa combined both witty commentary and insightful information about the history of Love Island in the way only a true fan could. It was an easy read and something I enjoyed over a period of time. As I gear up for another summer of Love Island, I have no doubt I’ll be referring back to my reading of this book and all the newfound knowledge I now have!

Thank you to Atria Books for the opportunity to read and review this book! I received a free advance copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Enter the Villa is a great quick read for fans of Love Island! The book offers recaps of the seasons, breakdowns of the cause and aftermath of those seasons, insider information on casting and production, and a timeline of the creation of Love Island. I enjoyed particularly reading on the development of Love Island US, and the casting "types" that the producers look for in their Islanders. While I did get a bit tired of the long recaps of the seasons (I saw them all, I don't need a whole chapter recap), I really enjoyed hearing about how former Islanders feel about their experience years later. It was also comforting to learn about the Duty of Care and extensive psychological tests the potential Islanders must pass to prove they can withstand the potential fame or fallout after their season ends.

Would recommend to fans of Love Island that were always curious about whether or not choices were made by the Islanders or pushed by the producers. I do feel there could have been a little more actual behind-the-scenes info and a little less recap, but overall enjoyed it. Perfect timing to catch up before the new season this summer!

This book is an AMAZING look behind the scenes at how the reality-show-sausage gets made.

I’m a long-time fan of reality tv, but my Love Island knowledge literally comes from Scandoval and the occasional appearance of a former contestant on the shows I do watch. I went into this pretty much blind as to the history and lore, so I was expecting some new information, but also something similar to a lot of behind the scenes looks at television production.

I found it absolutely fascinating. The mechanics behind everything from casting to the “duty of care” to how they recalibrate in real time were interesting, and Peele is hilarious. She perfectly captures how it feels to root against and for these people, and her descriptions of the various characters (in front AND behind the camera) are delightful. I don’t know for sure what a used coffin salesman would sound like, but it sure paints a picture.

An absolute 10/10, would couple up with this book again.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this advance copy in exchange for my opinion 😊

As a MAJOR fan of Love Island, I was so excited to read this and get a behind the scenes look at the show. I guess I should have not went in with that expectation. There was nothing that was groundbreaking in this book. Thankfully I have seen the show and the scenes she described because I could picture it, but then I was like, why am I reading about it? I would have loved more actual behind the scenes, like what’s the interview look like to get on, what does Maya do when she’s not with the islanders, etc.

Not bad, just nothing ground breaking.

I'm not a big enough fan to appreciate this book. I wanted more "behind-the-scenes" details, but while there was a little bit of that (mostly in the epilogue), the book spent a lot of time covering what happened and the fallout about each season in the UK and the USA. Since I have only watched 2 US seasons, I ended up skimming much of it. But if you are a huge fan, do get a copy when it's released in late May 2026.

Thanks to the publisher for the advance digital reading copy.

I feel like I was really expecting more from this. The glossary had me extremely confused as someone from the U.S. because it was very obviously based on the UK show. I thought this would be more BTS and I feel like I learned more from the cast on social media about their experiences on the show than I did from this book.

I was interested in this book because my husband and I have watched many seasons of the show (both UK and US), but I think that familiarity actually took away from my enjoyment. There wasn’t anything particularly shocking or new for me.

I found myself much more engaged in the beginning, especially learning about how the show came to be. The sections focused on the more recent seasons didn’t hold my interest as much since I’d already seen them. I went into this hoping for more "behind the scenes" rather than talking about moments aired on the show.

I very much love a good season of Love Island! A fun overview of the reality love show from how it all began to the show’s stars. Maybe better if I was knew more of the stars involved, but it was fun when people I remembered popped up. Very unfortunate that some Islanders mental health was affected, which I didn’t know the particulars about, but I was impressed by how they stepped up to ensure all Islanders had the resources to better deal with the impact being on the show can have.

Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a really good behind-the-scenes look at how this hit television show was made and how it got to be a hit.

I do wish we got some more behind-the-scenes stories that we may not know about.

Overall, this is a great book for any Love Island fan, whether you know all about the show or are just now getting hooked on it.
