Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

It is always so much to explore new locations alongside the Straw hats, and this new adventure is not different.

Oda's creativity when creating new places is an admirable trait that always leaves me amazed and wishing that any of these places were real.

As much as I enjoy all the new chapters and how the story progresses, I have to admit that with each new volume the tension grows; and now with every new arc the pit in my stomach becomes deeper. Yes, the revelations are amazing, but they come at high prices nowadays.

lore piece is back and better than ever! the amount of time i’ve spent analysing the mural is… more than what is considered normal. i can’t wait to see what happens next with the sleeping children, loki and the nobles.

loki is v v interesting. i genuinely think he is innocent, atleast in the herald stuff. i trust luffy’s judgement so i trust loki as well.

elbaf is really great so far. love seeing usopp enjoy so much, even though people are hating bc “usopp is j getting drunk in His Arc” like.. this is one of his dreams… obviously hes fucking excited to finally get here 😭😭 let him be omfg

We continue our adventure in Elbaf, land of the giants, where we get some lore drops that only deepen several mysteries!

The last thing we saw was Robin finally reuniting with . This segues into a tour of the library where - sidenote: I’m starting to think an animal librarian is a great sign of a quality fantasy story, LOL – and of a school where Elbaf’s youngsters are educated.

It is quite funny to see Luffy and Usopp’s disappointment that Elbaf today isn’t so much the Viking warrior culture they were expecting, but maybe something more like modern Scandinavia, forest schools and all! Luffy thinks the kids are wimps, but Sanji chastises him that these are children who have only known love – very interesting, considering that Garp’s training of Luffy was basically criminal negligence, and Sanji’s father tried to turn him into a weapon. This kind of gentle upbringing is something Sanji only had glimpses of in his late mother, and Luffy probably has no concept of at all.
Ripley
Biology teacher Miss Ripley, though…goddamn! For all she’s teaching most of the children peaceable ways, she not only has the barbarian warrior goddess aesthetic, she seems to have been teaching her half-human son the basics of how to fight. Why? Well…let’s put a pin in that.

Because half human son I hear you say? HOW? I doubt Oda could explain the mechanics without the rating going up, but her not-officially-husband turns out to be , which is quite exciting to see! Hilarious, too, that his old nickname was “mountain eater” because…well. He and Ripley never married because But he proudly declares himself a “prophet of love” and declares that the mixed-race families that exist shows love has no boundaries. To which Luffy chuckles and says he sounds like an old Sanji! (Facts).

Luffy, Nami, and Zoro encounter this guy on their quest to find a key to free Loki. That Luffy wants to do this even after hearing the official story that says to me that this story is probably false. Our captain is an excellent judge of character, and he didn’t believe the incorrect stories of who Zoro and Nami were either! Moreover, Loki seems to hate the Celestial Dragons – always a point in someone’s favor. But…what is going on, then? In her YouTube chapter reviews, Melon Teee has pointed out some details that I didn’t notice. For one thing, Zoro has been looking incredibly tense this whole arc! Then, I think Ms. MT is correct that, given some recent events, Zoro is not feeling as confident as he usually would in his ability to keep everyone safe. Regarding Loki, Once that’s pointed out, along with , yeah, I smell a set-up! And of course Oda had to arrange for Sanji not to be around for that, because he would immediately have recognized that symbol as .

And, indeed, we get our first glimpse here of the “holy knights” who apparently defend the Celestial Dragons and other upper ranks of the World Government. They come of very sinister and, shockingly, include someone who claims to be (and certainly looks like!) , Figarland Shamrock! Which would mean Regardless, the knights are clearly here to cause trouble. Shamrock heads back to headquarters, but the others seem to be under orders to kidnap some giant children. But…why?

Another important lore drop involves getting more details on the giants beliefs regarding the sun god Nika. There seems to be some disagreement on this point, as the ability to read a certain sacred text has been lost, and we get this:
“Giant 1: Are you kidding me?! The Sun God isn’t a ruler!
Giant 2: That’s right, he’s the god of liberation!
Giant 3: More like destruction!
Giant : You’re wrong! Everyone knows he was the god of laughter!
Elder Giant:…All we know for sure is that he heralds great change. That’s why the rulers of the day always tend to fear Nika’s return.”

Which is all SUPER interesting, since all those descriptors

But Robin IS able to read the book, and as she does it is overlaid on a carving in the world tree that Ripley is showing Franky:

Both text and mural are hard to interpret. But they seem to indicate that the world underwent two prior “apocalypses”. The “first world” looks very industrial, almost like OUR world, The “second world” is associated with forests in some way, and is said to raised the wrath of the sea god. THAT is consistent with what we know about . In the last panel, we see some familiar-looking figures representing different races () confronting a large demonic figure holding a sun (perhaps ). I’m sure we’ll get more clues as we continue on!

Meanwhile, we’ve also been getting updates on Yamato through the cover stories, and it turns out that the person behind the kidnappings was In all honesty, I had to look up who that was, because he was a fairly forgettable villain among all the chaos of Wano. But it is good to see Yamato fulfilling his goal of being a protector of Wano, and the identity of the villain is interesting in that So I can’t help wondering if that will tie back into the main story.

All in all, can’t wait to see what happens next!

Caution! SPOILERS in the review!

Well, this is I think the first fully Elbaf volume and it’s good but not exactly great. There are some things I love about the volume but I wouldn’t say it’s exactly what I personally consider to be the best of One Piece.

Something that I love about the volume is definitely the worldbuilding. Oda really introduces the Elbaf giants here and explains their culture. It’s also interesting to see how these warriors are trying to raise their kids not to be warriors and they rather try to educate them. Speaking of education… I love the fact that Saul went back to Ohara and collected all the books that he could find and brought them to Elbaf.

I also love the fact that we get to meet Gyaban. His fight with Luffy is just really funny and I love the fact that he just lets him get to the key after he sees gear 5. Also the fact that he is Colon’s dad is really funny (and it makes me question a lot of things).

Now, what I don’t like about this volume is that for me personally there is not enough character work. I don’t feel like we get any iconic moments in here, except for Loki turning down the celestial dragons who almost kill him because of it but he doesn’t give in (and also Luffy just getting him out of the chains which is just signature Luffy behavior).

For me, too much of this volume is focused on the celestial dragons (or those knights or however they’re called) and their attack on Elbaf. I mean, it’s interesting to see Shanks’s twin, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t know, this whole “nightmares coming to life” shtick just doesn’t work for me. I do want them to save the kids, of course, but I just don’t find the plot that compelling and I keep waiting for the story to shift back to Loki and Luffy.

Okay, anyway, this is is fine but not as good as the best One Piece volumes. I’ll give it 4 stars and I really hope that Elbaf arc lives up to the fact that it’s the Elbaf arc in the future because I need to see my man Usopp doing some crazy shit and I need Loki to help the Straw Hats.

Volume 112 takes us deeper into Elbaph, and Eiichiro Oda delivers an incredible mix of worldbuilding, political intrigue, shocking character returns, and mythic-scale battles that remind us why this series is a once-in-a-lifetime epic.

The Straw Hats’ tour through the Sun World feels both whimsical and monumental, from the Owl Library to the Walrus School, grounding Elbaph as a living, breathing culture instead of just a long-teased legend. But Oda wastes no time raising the stakes: the Knights of God make their long-awaited entrance, with Figarland Shamrock, Gunko, Sommers, and Killingham proving to be just as dangerous and manipulative as expected. Their brutal attack on Loki and their scheme to take Elbaph’s children as hostages immediately shifts the tone from celebration to crisis.

The biggest jaw-dropper of the volume? The return of Scopper Gaban. Seeing a former Roger Pirate step into the story, not as a legend but as a living, breathing ally (and opponent, briefly), is a moment fans have been waiting decades for. His duel with Luffy and his role in freeing Loki are perfectly handled.

Meanwhile, the volume is packed with tension: the wildfire in the Sun World, the nightmare-born monsters unleashed on Elbaph, and the giants torn between loyalty to Loki and suspicion about Harald’s death. Loki himself becomes a tragic focal point (injured, accused, and haunted, yet refusing to crumble under the pressure). The question of whether he really killed King Harald adds another layer of political drama that will surely reshape Elbaph’s future.

By the end, the Straw Hats, the giants, and even Scopper Gaban find themselves preparing for an all-out clash with the Knights of God and the monstrous forces plaguing Elbaph. It’s both the continuation of a saga and the setup for something even bigger.

With lore reveals, emotional beats, and battles that feel larger-than-life, Volume 112 is another reminder that Oda knows exactly how to escalate a story without losing its heart. Elbaph is proving to be everything fans hoped for and more.

Feels like I'm the only one not quite loving the Elbaf arc so far. There's a lot of lore being introduced but in an exposition dump sort of way, and none of the giants are quite standing out to me as characters to care about.
