Solae loved a man who never existed but found one who made her forget her heart was ever broken. For years, she built a life around Rah’s promises and was blind to the darkness he kept hidden behind charm. But when one secret shatters the illusion, she discovers the real Rah is ruthless, calculating, and capable of anything. When the truth finally surfaces, things become malicious and life-threatening. Left shattered, Solae isn’t just heartbroken; she’s fighting to hold on to her children, freedom, and sanity. And that’s when Priest steps in. Priest becomes what Rah pretended to be and claims her in a way Rah tried to claim her pain.Aaliyah thought she was Rah’s everything, but she was just a part of his performance. She loved him loudly, but she didn’t know she was never the only one. When the truth comes out, the heartbreak shatters her, but that’s when Fabe steps in. He stops protecting Rah’s image and starts protecting her. In Fabe, she finds something she never had with the right to be chosen.
Before the world knew his name, Moses was already Kahlani’s hero. He chased his dreams with one hand and held his family down with the other. His talents were in the streets, but Rah pushed his real talents behind the mic. Rah was supposed to be his trusted cousin and manager. Instead, Rah pushed him from music to mayhem. One violent night reveals the monster Rah has always been, and Moses walks away from the mic. But fate has a way of calling back those born with fire.
They all thought they escaped Rah’s chaos, but monsters don’t disappear; they bide their time.
Rahis an urban romantic suspense about deception, survival, and the kind of love that doesn’t just hold you … it heals you.
Please This is a re-release of N.A.S, released in 2014. Both parts of the series have been combined into one standalone. I made a lot of changes to the storyline, so, if you read it previously, it won't be a waste of time to read it again. :-)
Author of Urban Chick Lit, Erotica, and Contemporary Urban Fiction... Jessica N. Watkins was born April 1st in Chicago, Illinois. She obtained a Bachelors of Arts with Focus in Psychology from DePaul University and Masters of Applied Professional Studies with focus in Business Administration from the like institution. Working in Hospital Administration for the majority of her career, Watkins has also been an author of fiction literature since the young age of nine. Eventually she used writing as an outlet during her freshmen year of high school as a single parent: “In the third grade I entered a short story contest with a fiction tale of an apple tree that refused to grow despite the efforts of the darling main character. My writing evolved from apple trees to my seventh and eighth grade classmates paying me to read novels I had written about kids our age living the lives our parents wouldn’t dare let us”. At the age of twenty-eight, Watkins’ chronicles have matured into steamy, humorous, and realistic tales of women's literature. She hopes that The Epitome of Femistry series will successfully emulate ideal femininity while tackling stereotypes, familiar heartache, and relatable distress in a humorous, sophisticated, and erotic fashion.

I cracked this book open thinking Rah was gonna be my new book bae… nope! I cannot stand this man! I didn’t think Jessica could pen a chocolate Adonis that I’d want to homicide but she did! This book is soooo good though! Send Priest and Moses my way 🥰
Whew Chil! I have never in all my years of reading, hated a MMC the way I hate that bih azz phuck 🥷 Rah🤬🤬🤬! That Motherfudgesicklestix gave being a narcissist a whole new meaning. He was like a cancer wrecking havoc on everybody he came in contact with. He deserved all the karma that he got and then some for all havoc he caused.
At first I couldn't stand Aaliyah, but I soon realized that Lil baby was dic*notized in the worst way. I was so proud when she left and took the one thing he loved the most. What she did for Solae and herself had me so proud of her. She most definitely deserved all the love Fabe gave her ❤️.
I freakin loved me some Moses and the way he loved and protected Kahlani😍. I loved how no matter what came their way, it was always them against the world. That man loved what he did, but he refused to allow it to eff up his home life. My heart broke for him when he realized his own cousin was using TF out him😔🤬. I was proud when he told Rah where to stick it and walked away from him and his bs. All his hard work and sacrifices paid off🙌🏾
Solae irked my nerves with her constant questioning and doubting Priest when he was showing her from the moment he met her that he was all about her. Yet, she never questioned Rah bih azz🙄. My heart broke for all the havoc that bih wrecked on her life, especially that ish he pulled on Christmas💔. I felt she went easy on Rah, cause he most definitely deserved the Lorena Bobbitt effect🤷🏾♀️.
I had no empathy or sympathy for Felicia, karma is a bih and she comes in different forms of get back🤷🏾♀️.
I love me some Fabe and Priest😍🥰.
I would've loved to have experience Solae finally realizing that she deserved the same love, loyalty, care, etc that she pours into all her family and friends. That man Priest played no games about her and I loved the way he loved her and her babies unconditionally 🫶🏽.
Kudos to Queen Jessica Watkins for this amazing read🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Whew!! This book is an emotional roller coaster that you can't get off and snatches your breath at every turn. 623 pages flew by. My favorite quote from the book: "You don't owe pain no loyalty!" I'm happy that everyone got their lick back... IYKYK
632 pages in 2 days! Is that page count correct?? Either way, I saw an alternate cover for this book (or maybe it was AI image) in a reading group and could not resist. I’ve been burned by super sexy, melanated male covers before so I was fully prepared for the worst, but this was well written and edited! The story was a page turner, the characters (and their children) had names I could take seriously, the story was gritty without being ghetto, the twists and turns kept the story moving (I had some issues there) and the struggle and desire to make it real were realistic. No corner boys flossing with private jets here, my friends! The women, though they didn’t always make the best decisions, were relatable. They were in love, and at times naive, but not stupid. And they were strong. I liked most of the male characters. Priest was my favorite, followed by Moses and Fabe. That leaves Rah.
Some people seemed to be highly upset by Rah’s character or lack thereof, but I never really felt anything for him at all, and it was because of the way he was written. Because other characters (like Priest and Fabe) saw him as a goofy, it took away from me feeling that he was really hardcore and I mentally dismissed him. Make no mistake he was vindictive and ruthless, but I never really felt strongly about him or any of his actions. It was like reading about something from afar, without actually being invested in the story. The other thing was, chapter endings like ‘Little did we know how this would change our lives’. I don’t really love when stories are told like this.
I also think the main thing that didn’t allow me to fully immerse myself in the story is the plot points that didn’t make logical sense to me. While the rest of the book is engaging, and fun, and sexy, these few things mar the experience.
Still, there was so much about this story that I enjoyed and you can clearly tell it was a labor of love. An offering of this size is an absolute gift to readers in this genre, and it is absolutely refreshing to read an urban romance that is well edited, that doesn’t contain the word ‘orbs’ (Ha!), and where the author actually knows the meanings of the words and phrases she uses. If I have to read one more book…! I digress. The writing flowed well, and I was happy with the ending. Though Priest was my favorite male character, and I was happy for him and Sonae, Kahlani and Moses are couple goals and, though I usually cringe at public spectacles, Kahlani deserved every bit of love and adoration that Moses showered on her at the end. I LOVED them. Fabe and Aaliyah were super cute too and I loved the big, happy, family feel at the end.
Jessica Watkins has once again demonstrated her skill with Rah, a character who defied my expectations from the very beginning. The cover art, beautifully designed, hinted at a storybook romance, but Rah's true nature was far more complex. His actions were often appalling, and his lack of consideration for others was staggering. As I continued reading, I was struck by the importance of recognizing red flags and questioning the intentions of those who impact our lives. Rah's behavior was a stark reminder of the dangers of ignoring such warning signs. This book is a compelling read that will undoubtedly elicit strong emotions.
Rah was just one person how can so many people not like you. A narcissist through and through. You couldn't help but to not like Rah. He played everyone in this book even down to his parents.
This MF here pissed me off so damn bad!!! They needed to ring him by his damn nuts!!! lol This was such a great read though and I’m glad everything worked out the way it did despite all the bs everyone went through!!
Whew! This story was HEAVY ASF! TW: Narcissistic personality disorder representation. Rah was an agent of the worst kind of chaos! I never hated a villain so much in my life. Jessica wrote a banger of a story! The chaos he created brought so much pain to others and she did an excellent job of creating the perfect narcissistic villain! Hands down, this is one of the best books I’ve read in 2025!
This book was something else and I must say that Rah is the epitome of self serving. In this day and age where people throw the label narcissist around this man really exemplified that because he really cared for no one or their needs but his own. Also his manipulation tactics were top notch and he didn't care if it was man or woman he was using he was gonna come out on top. Thought this book was gonna take a couple days because of its length but ran through it in less than 24 hours 😅 🤦🏾♀️
Ms Jessica was on my NEW TO ME NOVEMBER list and she did not disappoint. This book was messyyyy af and I loved every bit of it.
First of all, the MMC, Mr. Rah, was raggedy—and I mean that in every sense of the word. A full-blown narcissist, liar, thief, and loyal to absolutely no one but himself. No matter how many people loved him or stood by him, he stayed greedy and grimy. His selfishness was downright disgusting, so seeing karma double back on him felt well deserved.
My heart truly went out to Solae. Staying loyal to her high school sweetheart—who got her pregnant—was the biggest mistake she could’ve made. After holding him down and raising their kids, he still cheated and even had another baby on her. Then he had the nerve to get mad when she found out, going as far as plotting to get her kids taken away. I was cheering when she finally got her lick back, secured her babies, and found a new man who doesn’t play about her at all.
Moses was a breath of fresh air—a cool dude who just wanted to hustle, build his rap career, and take care of his family. He spoiled them not only with gifts but with his time and attention. And even with women all around him as an up-and-coming rapper, all he ever saw was Kahlani. He stayed locked in, never letting her out of his sight, and it was honestly refreshing.
As for Aaliyah, I really felt for her. She fell for Rah without knowing he already had a fiancée and kids. Once she realized she was being played, she grabbed her newborn, took Rah’s money, and got out of there fast. Her falling for Rah’s brother cracked me up, but honestly, she deserved a real man. And she turned out to be one herself—stepping up to help Solae in the end, which I truly didn’t see coming.

“Rah” was… a ride. And honestly, those 3 stars are me being kind. Every single main character (except Rah, the actual antagonist!) managed to get on my nerves in one way or another.
What I did like: • The multiple POVs. I’m nosey, so getting the story from everybody’s perspective kept me turning pages.
⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️
Rah: He is evil. Full stop. And to be fair, he never pretends to be anything else.
Solae: I could not get past the fact that her kids are taken away on Christmas Day, yet she somehow finds comfort being intimate with Priest that same day. Girl… why?
Priest: I didn’t like that he confirmed sleeping with Solae the next day to his homeboy. Like, why are you kissing and telling?
Fabe: Fabe is an absolute weirdo. The way he kept lurking and popping up on Aaliyah whenever Rah wasn’t around gave me creepy little-brother-with-a-crush energy. He felt less like a friend and more like someone trying to slide into Rah’s spot.
Solae & Kahlani: Kahlani is literally out on bail for felony drug charges, and this is when she thinks it’s smart to plot killing Rah and dumping his body? Be serious. The plan was as chaotic as it was foolish.
Moses & Kahlani: I’ll give them this, they’re solid as a couple. But him letting her take a charge for him? Absolutely not. That annoyed me to my core.
Overall, the book held my attention, but the characters’ decisions had me yelling “BE SO FOR REAL” at my Kindle more than once. If drama, chaos, and questionable judgment are your thing, you’ll enjoy the ride. Otherwise… prepare your nerves.

Chilee... this book has been sitting in my TBR since the end of'25. I thought it would be a calm, cool, collected book, boy was I wrong! 15 pages into the book and I wanted to off Rah MYSELF! How in the world could a MMC annoy, scratch that, piss me off soooo bad! Rah was a true narcissist, possibly had a mental disorder too but hey, im not a psychiatrist.
I gave this book 3 stars strictly because of the characters.
Solae just wanted him to understand her POV so bad! Kept bringing up the baby like Rah GAF. Why are we halfway through the book and you still talking about the baby. Thennn the common sense was out the window when she found all the money in the house.... Don't get me started on her giving Priest the run around for so long... Priest was actually the only character that didn't get on my nerves.
Aaliyah was just so brainwashed... Then wanted to be a hurt and abused woman so bad like rah treated her horribly (until he did) I'm glad Fabe know Rah treated her good despite everything he was doing
All in all, Lord dont everrrrr let me run into a man like Rah.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would 😍 shout out to all of the girlies who were cursing Rah’s behind out in the group chat, it encouraged me to pick this up 😂
Now that I’ve read it, I agree there is A LOT going on and so many reasons to hate Rah but underneath all of the mess, the story was well written! The character development made sense, so did their actions and love stories, there were hilarious moments in the book, then mortifying moments, then sad moments and then hopeful moments. A true standalone that took us through so many emotions, a wild ride but worth it. Some moments I stopped reading mid sentence, screamed out loud, then continued reading through the fabric of my shirt because I was so anxious about what came next lol
This is my first time in a while reading a standalone and actually being satisfied enough with the ending because everyone’s story line was truly wrapped up and done justice.
Spice level was like 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Trigger warning for folks there was: infidelity, physical abuse, emotional abuse, narcissism and straight up psycho behaviour.
Had it not been for work committments during this holiday season, along with traveling, I would have finished this book a lot sooner, because this was good! Rah was truly the villain in everybody’s story. Solae, Priest, Moses, Kehlani, Aaliyah, his children, and even his flunkies that looked up to him, all had their lives drastically changed for the worst because of him.
While Rah was truly a deceitful bastard and deserved the absolute worst, I just never saw him as this huge threat. He was an elevated jackboy. He didn’t know how to move in the streets, he was sloppy with how he conducted “business,” he didn’t have any huge name recognition. He was more like a gnat at a family barbecue and he could’ve been handled a lot sooner if we’re being completely honest.
That said, I really enjoyed this story and I’m glad that everyone got their happy endings. 4.25 ⭐️
I don’t even know how to write a proper review for this, this book was INSANE and such a WILD ride!
Rah, what a delusional, manipulative, narcissistic piece of shit. A chaos demon that got off on hurting every single person around him no matter the cost, a complete sociopath.
I absolutely loved Priest and wanted more of him! He loves with no limits, he is down BAD.
Moses was so solid and a stand up guy.
Fabe was cool.
Aaliyah was interesting, I'm glad she's being loved correctly now.
I loved Kuhlani!! She got everything she deserved and is the definition of ride or die.
Oh Solae I hate you even met Rah but in the end she got a man that will do ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING to make her and her children safe and happy.
Five stars for storytelling, emotion, and just the right amount of spice.
This was exactly what I needed. From start to finish, I was locked in. The pacing was solid, the characters were layered, and the story had just the right mix of emotion and drama.
I haven’t really been into spicy scenes lately, but Jessica wrote them in a way that felt natural; not forced or dragged out. Every character served their purpose, even the ones I couldn’t stand. And the fact that I ended up liking the side chick by the end? That’s good writing right there.
I cried for Solea, smiled through the chaos, and closed the book feeling fully satisfied.
I absolutely loved this book. Even though it took me a little longer to complete it, I’m glad that it was a standalone because I would have lost my mind if I had to wait on another book. This was the first time that I actually wanted to transport into a book and kill a character myself, but Rah irked my very last nerve and he got exactly what he deserved. Kahlani and Moses were so cute together. Fabe and Aaliyah deserved each other and Solar deserved the peace she got from Priest. Priest was the real MVP. Ms. Watkins wrote the heck out of this book and it definitely kept my attention.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it had my edges snatched from page 1. A lot was going on but it was easy to follow along and kept me engaged the whole book. The HEA's were earned, ok!💅🏾 That Rah was a true dirtbag. A straight clown. Priest, boy oh boy, that's the upgrade Solae needed. Moses and Kahlani, true riders for each other. They didn't play about each other and I love that for them. That song at the end🥰 Now, at first Aaliyah and Fabe(Fabil😁) being together was a messy problem and it still is, but Aaliyah got with the wrong brother and fixed that mistake.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book but I would recommend just starting with the first chapter of Solae and skipping through everything that the author has in the beginning. I don’t like the character visuals that she included because it didn’t match their description in the book at all, but the story itself was easy to follow. I like the different characters except Rah and watching the character development. It was a little predictable, but I didn’t mind it and some of the twists were good. I think it ended on a good note and I’m pleased with this read. Reading this felt like I was watching one of 50 cent’s TV shows, very entertaining!
Rah was the definition of self centered, narcissistic sociopath with no redeeming qualities. It made you wonder if at some point would he think of anyone but himself....you will quickly find out the answer to that.
Solae was sweet but as a mother there was some questionable moments regarding her approach to a particular issue that should have been way different.
Fabe had to be on the slow side because an online test and 300K down a public system didn't raise alarm bells.
Moses, Priest and Kahlani were the best characters because all showed such maturity and common sense to the nonsense that was happening around them.
Overall, the book was a good and emotional read. The author knew how to get you mad and keep you mad with the antics of Rah. That cover is one heck of a deception.
This book was really good. It was a completely well thought out standalone. I love that! I miss the days of a good long standalone. This gave me that. Rah… I can’t believe how much he did. I can’t stand him. He got exactly what was coming to him. I’m so happy for Moses. He almost gave up messing with Rah. I’m happy that everything turned out ok for everyone. One person negatively affected the lives of so money smh. It’s truly sad. Read the book because you won’t be disappointed.
4.5 ⭐️ Rah was literally insane 🤣 I was legit waiting for someone to off that man. He killed everyone that was loyal to him. Talk about a backstabber. But I love Moses, to have a man that is good famous and doesn’t cheat is a rarity in these books so he was def a breath of fresh air. And Priest and Fabe 😊 they just wanted to love the women like they needed to be loved. Rah ain’t shit a$$ was everywhere doing every body. That man was a true lame lol. And Moses rap at the end!!!! Made my heart swoon fr fr.

Funny moment. I never read the synopsis. So, while I was reading this I kept saying "Rah reminds me of Nas. Am I tripping?" Lol Then I gave in and read the synopsis Lol. Let me tell you - even though this is a re-release - it was like I was reading a new book. Amazing character development! Jessica really takes you on a journey with these characters and you will feel the emotions they are feeling - except for Rah. Rah is your textbook psychopath. Babyyy he got all the signs!
Baby when I say JessicaN Watkins wrote this book baby she wrote this book. Rah I’m glad he got what he got because he was a hot mess. He was a wolf in sheep clothing when I say he was a hot mess. Than there was Moses who believed anything that rah said until he almost caught a charge. Than there was solae baby I loved her she was just blinded by love her and Aaliyah. Than there Fabe which is rah brother who loved Aaliyah and she loves him back. This books was a 10/1000 highly recommended 🥰❤️
The way Jessica owes me money for therapy after this book is wild. First off listen to the trigger warnings. This book ain't for everybody but if its your cup of tea, you won't be disappointed. The first paragraph immediately draws you in and you will be sufficiently stressed out until about the 80-85% mark. Rah is actually the devil, he just kept getting worse with every chapter I read. I had to keep reminding myself of the warnings at the beginning. This was the hardest fought HEA lives ever read.
So ladies what did we learn here? Have better 🐱 management. If these ladies had a better man in their lives and as their children’s father, they could have had so much more in life without the drama, jail, lost jobs, and heartache.
Now let’s talk about the real villain here. If you have been fortunate enough to have never met a man like Rah in real life.. a man who causes all the drama but blames everyone around him for the consequences of his actions, consider yourself lucky. All I can say is I’m glad the book ended the way it did.
Loved every part of this book, my emotions were bipolar the whole time! I went from anger to rage and even done gangsta thoughts popped in my head! RAH had me on one!! And PRIEST.. whew Chile!!!!! ❤️ Baybay JW didn’t miss a beat with this one!! The tears flowed and happiness for Solae and Khalani took over! Even Aaliyah got a couple tears from me! I couldn’t put it down! It’s 3am. All I can say is READ IT!
Is this a remake is this a book that just got upgraded or something because if it's not I've read this book before. This is somebody else's work and I've read this book before this book just didn't come out. It's still a good read. There was some changes there was some different little things in the book. It took me so long to get into the book because I had read it before.
