Dave Yeager is the deputy in Bear Mountain, and the only human in town who knows about the shifting abilities of the sheriff and his friends. After watching yet another couple mate, his dreams for a family resurface, and loneliness sets in when he’s reminded he may live out the rest of his life alone.
Emma Thompson, after being jilted one too many times, has been living in her bear form for the past ten years. The energies from the pregnant bears bring her back to Bear Mountain, but she’s surprised to find the pull of the deputy a greater draw.
When Dave meets Emma, sparks fly and he’s convinced she might be the one. Unfortunately, his stubborn bear has other ideas. Unwilling to be cheated on and left by yet another man, she creates a plan to satisfy them both and allow them to remain friends. Her plan seems perfect until she realizes that whether bear or man, an alpha always gets what he wants.
Bear Mountain Series Book Five: "Lost Bear" by Ruby Shae...
3.5 Stars!!!
This was the last book in this series. Each book was super short and cute with the heroes, sexy and protective, while the heroines were insecure and lonely. I enjoyed this whole series. These are great stories if you're in the mood for a quick read with sexy alpha heroes with light suspense and a small amount of angst. They are all around sixty-five pages.
This story is a bit different from the others but no less romantic. Here our bear shifter is the heroine. Our hero is the town's sexy deputy.
Emma and Dave.....
Emma feels a strong pull to return to Bear Mountain where her cousins live. She can sense the pregnancies of their mates and that reason alone compels her to visit. Emma returns to Bear Mountain but unlike the other shifters who live there, she has been living in the form of her bear for the last tens years. She was tired of always being hurt from bad relationships so she gives up men entirely. That is until she feels a connection to a human; a gorgeous, sexy man who is the town's deputy. Could she trust her instincts that this man is her mate or is she destined for more heartache?
We are introduced to Dave in the first book of the series and we get to know him more in each book after. I liked Dave from book one and I'm so glad he gets his own story. Dave is deputy to the town of Bear Mountain. The Sheriff is a bear shifter. Dave has gotten to know all the shifters in town and he loyally keeps their secret. He has also been witness to each one of them finding their mates. Since, he's been melancholy, feeling envious and lonely; this only fueled his own desires to find love. When he is drawn to a bear wandering around the woods behind his home, it isn't concern or fear he feels. It's protectiveness and longing. He suddenly feels lighthearted and a strong feeling of hope. When Emma finally shifts to her human form, Dave knows she was meant to be his. But Emma is in denial and stubborn when it comes to admitting that Dave could be her mate. She is determined to protect her heart.
Emma has been lost and wondering. Dave will stop at nothing to show her that not only has she found a place to call home and her family, she found him. And forever he will love and cherish her. Dave was awesome and I fell in love myself.
Although these can be read as standalone, I was glad I read them in order. Bear Mountain Series: "Lone Bear" "Brother Bear" "Double Bear" "Idle Bear" "Lost Bear"
His plan to prove to her they belong together was horrible and hurtful. It made me lose respect for him, and up until this point, I'd really liked his character in the previous books. His behavior in this one disappointed me.
Final book in the series, Dave is the deputy on Bear Mountain, he worked under the previous corrupt sheriff and some of the town folks still don’t trust him because of it. Things have gotten a little better since Gage took over as sheriff and he trusts Dave 100%. Seeing all of his friends mated and happy he is definitely feeling lonely but does not feel an attraction to any of the available ladies in town. One evening while sitting on his back porch he sees a small bear, he immediately knows it’s a female shifter and tries to coax her out. He asks Gage and Kate to come see if they can get her to come into the open. Seth comes with Gage and startled she attacks Seth, feeling horrible she shifts back to human, the shifters are happy to see her, she is their cousin Emma. The attraction between Dave and Emma is instant and she knows he’s her mate. But she fights the attraction at first then decides she will do a friends with benefits arrangement with him. She’s convinced like all her previous boyfriends he will cheat on her and leave her. It’s the furthest thing from the truth for Dave, he knows she his one. But he agrees because he knows he can convince her once they spend time together. Things go well for a few weeks, then, while on a date Emma seeing the hostess looking at Dave longingly, she tells her to ask Dave out. Frustrated and angry with Emma for doing that he pretends he’s going on a date with the hostess. Feeling sad and heartbroken Emma shits and runs into the forest and sleeps in a cave. Dave feeling restless heads into the forest and when it starts raining he seeks shelter in same cave as Emma’s bear. They finally talk and Emma gives Dave his mate mark. Epilogue with Kate delivering her twins and Emma pregnant with twins. I wish Dave had gotten a mate that was more invested in him, he has been a good friend to the shifters, it was sad to see they doubted him. He needed someone like him, kind and thoughtful.

Method: ebook Rating:4/5 stars Hero rating:4/5 - Dave Heroine rating:4/5 - Emma Drama:3/5 Trope(s):paranormal; shifter Thoughts:Great read. Will look into more from this author!
Emma has been is bear form for years. Deputy Dave has been a loyal friend to the bear clan. Her mistrust of men in general led to their unusual “friends with benefits” arrangement. He turns the tables on Emma to get her to believe his intentions are honourable. I loved this HEA story. I read this using my KU subscription.
I recently started reading Ruby Shae and so far she has not disappointed! You can read as standalone but if you start at the beginning, you get involved with the whole clan!!
Another great series with a great storyline and great characters each storyline suited the couple it was written for,ms Shae has a way of writing that you can get lost in her books, filled with lots of love and laughter.
Wish there was more in this series but I've loved every single book in this series loved the characters and the storylines so it's a well deserved five stars and I would recommend this book to everyone
A very short, pleasant read to wrap up a series and leave no hunky guy unmated, no danger but lots of high school drama… Jeez she’s a nincompoop and has an ignoramose
Dave’s plan to prove they belong together had potential however it was also hurtful especially to Lynette . His behavior disappointed me. But don’t get me started on her stubborn foolhardy plan then goes on about betrayal and how devastated she is.. girl!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A story of healing and hope, with deputy Dave and shifter Emma both grappling with loneliness and past heartbreak. Their push-and-pull dynamic feels authentic, especially as Emma struggles with trust and Dave balances his human identity with knowledge of the shifters’ world. This book combines emotional warmth with an engaging exploration of vulnerability and desire.
Emma Thompson (and all I think about is the actress when I hear that name) is a female bear shifter who has been living as a bear for 10 years, having been rejected by one too many boyfriends. Dave is the town deputy and the only guy in Bear Mountain who knows about shifters. When he meets Emma, he knows they're meant to be together, but she's still wary. She agrees to be friends with benefits and waits for him to move on and he agrees hoping she'll change her mind.
A sort of average addition and conclusion to the series. Nice to see the role reversal in regards to the mate mark and it was a switch up in formula (as opposed to reading the same book over and over again with different characters). But this was not very exciting and Emma was a bit frustrating. I'm still not sure I understand all the rules in the shifter-verse, but I may continue reading from this author.

I really love this little series of novellas by Ruby Shae. Their lengths are perfect for a lunchtime read. The characters have just enough depth that you do care what happens and the plots are simple but not boring. Lost Bear was a wonderful feel good story that lightened my beige, number crunching work day. The price I paid for this novella versus the apple pie slice I had considered, well... my waist line and my heart was happy with the purchase!
I was glad that Dave got a story of his own, and was mated to a female bear shifter. He was such a strong character in the other stories, and Emma was just perfect for him. I loved her plot to try to stay unmated and Dave's reaction to not only the friends with benefits plan, but to Emma's attempt to set him up with Lyntte. This was a very good story and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
I really liked the interaction between man and bear. Just like the other Bear Mountain stories offered something a little different in the struggle that each character faced, book 5 was no different. Emma was a totally lovable character and I can totally visualize her blonde curls and her stubborn attitude. Well done! Can't wait to read more from Ruby Shae.
What a great conclusion to the series! This was a great series to read! In each and every book, the story was different every time. In some cases of short series, the story is the same over and over again, but the author in this case does a very good job of making each story different! I look forward to reading more from this author!
I can't believe its over I loved it so happy that Dave got a mate. I want to know more about the others will they have babies? What does Sara have? Thank you so much Ruby wonderful series!
this book was beautifully written, I loved the story. I was sorry for the end I wanted to keep reading more. so definitely recommending the book and the author. they're both fabulous.
Oh! I didn't want my visit to Bear Mountain to end...
:-( I didn't want my visit to Bear Mountain to end... Such a wonderful series! So fun, so vivid with people, and how a group comes together and melds. In this one, a deputy finds his future... Well worth reading!
Emma is a bear shifter who hasn't shifted in ten years. She has been in the forest of Bear Mountain watching Dave. They are drawn to each other but Emma doesn't believe he will remain faithful. Great book.
Part of Kindle Unlimited. Love these stories. Didn't like the girl bear as much as the male stories but I couldn't put it down. Hope there are more books to come!
So. A very short, pleasant read to wrap up a series and leave no hunky guy unmated, and it was obvious this was all this was. Short, boring, no drama... the obligation book.
Stubbornness can create its own challenges when it's comes to love. Another great story in the continuing series about Bear Mountains. I wonder if there be more? S. Otto
