Hudson Moving back to his town of birth, Hudson Moore couldn’t be happier. He has an amazing job with the fire department, the house he shares with his brother is the perfect fixer upper, and he already has a new best friend. Everything is perfectly in place. Hudson knows that this is where he is supposed to be. He can feel with all his heart that he has found his forever home. Finding a cat in a tree that obviously needs rescue, Hudson knows it is just his civic duty to lend the furry feline a hand. Hudson has no idea how that first interaction will change his entire world.
Bastian Answering the call from his old team leader with the paranormal council, Bastian gives up traveling the country on his bike and rushes to Leo’s side. The discovery of Leo’s missing brother brings him into contact with a family made up of powerful paranormals and humans. Even Lucifer pops in for a visit whenever it suits the king of hell. Leo and Aaron want to stay and hope to convince Bas to join them in contuining the mission they started with the paranormal community. Bastian is hesitant until he’s woken from his daily nap in the park tree by the most amazing sunshine of a man that he’s ever met. Known as the resident grump, Bastian is going to have to figure out how to bring his sweet human mate into his world while protecting Hudson from dangers that none of them were aware lurked close to the family.
Sunshine is book 11 in the Unlocked Mates series. For the best experience it is recommended to read the series in order, although this can be read as a standalone. This bookcontains M/M sexual content (men having sex with each other) and a Daddy/ boy relationship. This book is an exploration of a relationship between two (male) consensual adults who are looking for love and acceptance. All characters in sexual situations are over the age of consent.
Hudson feels settled and happy back in his hometown, but everything changes the day he rescues a cat from a tree — an encounter that leads him straight to Bastian. Bastian, a grumpy paranormal operative returning to help his old team, is instantly drawn to the bright, sunny human who wakes him from a nap. As hidden dangers close in on the family Bastian protects, he must figure out how to bring his human mate into a world Hudson never knew existed.
I enjoyed this amusing and light‑hearted story, especially the running joke of Hudson repeatedly finding the same cat and getting increasingly irritated with its so‑called irresponsible owner — only to discover the truth about Bas and the paranormal world hiding in plain sight. His introduction to that world was fun to follow, and the reveal tied the earlier humour together nicely. I did feel that the explanation Hudson received — and how quickly he agreed to become Bastian’s mate — happened far too fast, which took a little away from the emotional impact. Still, the overall story was easy to read and understand, with plenty of charm and warmth as Hudson and Bas figured out how to fit into each other’s lives. This was an MM story with mature content.
Normally I don't write reviews. I never see them posted and truthfully my opinion of a book depends on outside factors affecting my attitude. Lol. That said, this book felt unfinished. The whole book was inner dialogue vs interaction. There was actually very little interaction Bastion and Hudson vs Hudson and the cat. The relationship was not flushed out at all. The book felt like it all happened in a day. There was no drama to attend to in the back ground. No addressing Hudsons "little" side. Just a mention of an arsonist, some tools missing, then back to inner dolialogue. River felt completely out of character to me. He grew up in the last several books as he took care of Anton. He would not have been at the house without him this much. And certainly not giggling and "misbehaving' . Honestly, I would rather wait longer for a new addition then have one feel as rushed, and frankly boring, as this one was.
I couldn't finish this. I was looking forward to it, as I've read the rest of the series and enjoyed them. But the infantilization of Hudson was just too much. The guy's an adult. He's got an adult job as a firefighter. WHY is he being written as though he's an 8-year-old who's never interacted with other people before? The other littles weren't written like they were the actual age they regressed to, so why was Hudson? There's being an adult who enjoys age regression but in all other facets of his life is a recognizable adult, and then there's Hudson, who was so constantly naive and earnest that I couldn't picture the character as anything other than a literal child, and that's just creepy. Cheque, please.
I love Bastien and Hudson’s book! How they meet is so cute, and Hudson is just so sweet. While Bastien may be a bit of a grump he’s super happy his mate is like sunshine. While both are still settling into the town they are definitely interested in getting to know each other better. Friends from past books make an appearance, but don’t worry if you haven’t read them, this book can easily be read as a stand alone. I am so happy this series is continuing, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest review
Having come to town with Leo and Aaron, Bastian is still settling in and finding his place. Hudson is a firefighter who has returned to town after many years. When he spots a cat in a tree, he has to rescue him and so begins his discovery of a world he never was exposed to.
A sweet read about finding one’s place in life, exploring new dynamics and discovering new opportunities and ways of life. A fantastic addition to the series. I’m excited for the other characters to get their own stories told.
I have loved this series from the very first book. I'm glad that it didn't end after Gavin's book. Bas and Hudson make a great couple. Hudson's positive, sweet character is exactly what grumpy Bas needs. I loved their interactions when Bas was in his shifted form as they highlighted Hudson's caring nature. I highly recommend this book and the entire Unlocked Mates series.
The story was really cute and The Great Reveal was as adorable as you'd expect from an Athena Stellar book, but... and this was a big enough thing for me to dock a whole star, there were a LOT of typos and editing misses in this book. The story kiss great and lays the ground work in typical "HEA for these two, but total cliffhanger for the next couple" style that the author has cultivated. Really worth the read, just mind the bad editing.
Grumpy kitty gets his Sunshine Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2025 Format: Kindle I really enjoyed Hudson and Bastian’s story!! Hudson loving on Bas kitty was really sweet, and Bastian trying to figure out how to explain was funny!! I also enjoyed the new characters and can’t wait for all the shenanigans as the series continues!!
I wasn’t ready. It ended and I wasnt ready for it. I’m bereft. When this book came out I re read all this series and fell back in love with all the characters. This book is just as good as the rest and I really need you to finish and publish the next one asap pretty please 🙏
As always, I love this family. Hudson was adorable and I really enjoyed reading this one. My only disappointment is that we only get 30 pages once he finds out and they are officially together. There is also very little interaction with the rest of the family. I would have loved more scenes where Hudson hung out with the boys. It felt a little rushed towards the end.
I love this series snd I’m so happy that it’s continuing. Bastian and Hudson’s story was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to Aaron and Carter’s book coming next! I’m giving this book a 4.5 due to avoidable errors that should have been caught in editing, but none detracted from the storyline
The family is growing and mates are coming out of the woodwork!!! Seb is going to have a field day with this! Hudson and Bas are adorable together…another boy to help wrangle the mischief makers (cough Stryker)!!!
Can the guys just take over running the town? Not sure how much longer the new mayor will last if he keeps poking around…
This is a great addition to the series. It was a sweet story but not nearly long enough. I'm totally invested in this family and community and look forward to how the author will continue to expand this world.

I love Hudson and Bas!! They’re precious together!! I love this series! Not only do we have shifters but we have dd/lb relationships!! If you love mm then you will love this series!!
I really enjoyed this book and thought this was a sweet, happy but steamy insta-love story. I thought Bastian and Hudson were great together and fate sure knew what they were doing pairing them together, as they were perfect for each other. Hudson fits seamlessly into Bastian’s new pack/found family like he always belonged, which he did since they’re fated mates. Hudson is a bundle of pure sunshine of a human being and tempers out Bastian’s grumpiness. I just love the family/pack that they’ve created. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series as it continues, it’s Aaron & Hudson’s older brother Carter’s turn next. Their meet cute was definitely something. I’m also looking forward to reading more books by Athena Steller in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
