She doesn’t expect him.

Kastor is unyielding, relentless, and bound by duty… yet the more time Allara spends with the rebels, the more he becomes the one steady hand guiding her through the fire. And the closer he gets, the harder it becomes to remember he is her enemy.

Tavro is breaking under a curse tied to her family’s sins. Allara carries the power to end it—but doing so will force her to face the past that destroyed her mother… and the man who might destroy her heart.

ARC review: this book has dragons, magic, a curse, evil queen. Allara (FMC) has a traumatised yet strong personality, she has been through so much. Kastor (MMC) is broody and protective. The FMC has 2 dragon bonds and those dragons will do anything thing for her. There is romantic tension between FMC and MMC. The goal is to break the curse and obliterate the throne.

This is a beautifully fierce entrance into an epic, romantasy world where danger, legacy, and forbidden love collide. It's a slow-burn story that keeps your heart racing and your loyalty shifting with every twist.
The enemies-to-lovers tension — the chemistry is electric without ever feeling rushed.
Allara, the FMC, whose courage and heart carry the emotional core of the story.
Kastor who is everything we know and love in an MMC.
The found family that's the perfect cast of characters who have personality and banter for days.
And did someone say dragons? I actually dare you to try and not fall in love with Allara's sidekicks and the witty banter they bring to the storyline!
And finally, a world built on dangerous legacies and ancient curses, making every choice feel like it matters.
The way the romance is balanced with high stakes that feels both romantic and raw is absolutely perfect for fans of slow-burn fantasy with grit and heart.
This one has staying power — it’s the kind of book you’ll recommend to friends and want to reread once it lands on your shelf.

Allara is a princess on the run. From her ruthless grandmother’s throne, her family’s bloody legacy, and the dangerous magic she carries in her blood. When her escape goes awry, she’s captured by a rebel faction sworn to destroy her line, led by Kastor, a hardened commander shaped by loss and duty. Expecting cruelty or execution, Allara instead finds herself navigating a fragile, uneasy alliance as rebellion, curses, and buried truths collide. As Tavro’s curse worsens, Allara is forced to confront who she is, what she can become, and what she is willing to do to survive.

One of this book’s greatest strengths is its atmosphere. The author has an exceptional grasp on setting, imbuing each location with its own weight and personality. Whether it’s a bedroom full of bad memories or an ancient mountain steeped in history, the environments feel vivid and emotionally charged, almost functioning as characters in their own right. The dragons are also used thoughtfully: powerful and dangerous, yet capable of tenderness in a way that deepens Allara’s arc rather than softening their impact. The writing consistently captures ambiance with a visceral clarity that made the world feel fully realized from the first page.

The romance between Allara and Kastor is another standout, unfolding at a measured, believable pace. Kastor’s reserved, duty-bound nature is well justified by his grief and past losses, making his quieter, more human moments especially effective. I also appreciated how Allara’s relationship with her magic is intertwined with her trauma, handled with nuance rather than melodrama. The violence strikes a careful balance, never sanitized, but never gratuitous either. This was a compelling, emotionally grounded romantasy that left me eager to read more. Many thanks to the author for this ARC. This is my honest review.

5/5 Forged in fire and impossible to put down.

If you're a fantasy fan, DROP EVERYTHING and add The Line of Ash by L.C. Browning to your reading list immediately. This book is an absolute masterpiece that deserves all the hype and more.Let me put it this way: imagine taking the political intrigue and complexity of Game of Thrones, blending it with the dragon-rider intensity of The Empyrean Series, and adding a splash of the heart and wonder from How to Train Your Dragon. The result? Pure magic. That's exactly what Browning has crafted here, and I'm still reeling from it.The worldbuilding is phenomenal. Browning's descriptive prowess is unmatched, during the butterfly scenes, I could practically see them fluttering off the pages. Every detail is so vivid and immersive that you're not just reading the story; you're living it alongside the characters.Speaking of characters, Allara's journey is everything. Watching her develop and grow throughout the book was an emotional rollercoaster that culminated in that EPIC final scene. I won't spoil anything, but just know that the payoff is absolutely worth it.And that final chapter "Where it all started" absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. I closed this book with tears streaming down my face, completely devastated and yet completely satisfied. It's rare to find a book that can deliver such an emotional gut punch while still leaving you desperate for more. The cover is stunning, but don't let that be the only reason you pick this up. The story inside is what will keep you glued to the pages until the very end. The Line of Ash is a must-read for any fantasy lover, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

"Some ghosts don’t deserve reconciliation. Some ties were meant to burn."

🔥Allara is a princess on the run from a blood legacy curse. Loosing her mother, her evil grandparents that are constantly trying to control her (in every unhealthy way possible), and a curse that is slowly killing her lands. With two snarky dragons by her side, will she fight the rebels or stand beside them? Can she face who she really is, what she can become, and what she is willing to do to survive at all costs? Will she ever learn to trust again?

The author does is again with immersive, and magically poetic masterpiece. If you love fantasy RUN to add this to cart, TBR, whatever it is as long as you read it!  With each paragraph being emotionally charged and vividly immersive you feel transported into the story. This is with characters and dragons alike. This is true enemies to lovers, but the gentle flow of trust and walls breaking down was the perfect subtle nod to a slow burn. reading her story, watching her gain insight and process emotions/traumas while finding a true community and family... I would be lying if I wasn't in tearing up in some parts. The pace, rollercoaster perfection, writing style is exquisite as always, and I cant wait to see where LCB takes us next in this story!

⚔️banter
⚔️corrupt monarchy

A fantasy with magic and dragons that puts its focus where it matters most: the characters and what they’ve survived. This story isn’t about shouting or posturing, it’s about endurance, justice, and reclaiming power.

The FMC is royalty who has been imprisoned and subjected to horrific cruelty, and the book treats her trauma with care and respect. The found family elements are beautifully done, offering warmth and trust without minimizing the darkness of the past.

With action, closed‑door romance, and thoughtful handling of uncomfortable topics, this is a true survival story, quietly powerful and deeply moving. Highly recommended for readers who want emotionally rich fantasy.

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. I absolutely devoured this book!! The FMC is bonded to two dragons that will do anything for her! She is a strong person who has been through alot. The MMC is very protective of her. The tension between them is strong feels like you are right there with them! I love the dragons!! Absolutely loved this book chefs kiss to LC Browning!! Cant wait for more from her!!

L.C. Browning isn't playing, lovelies. She drops us straight into the thick of it in chapter one with Allara and Kastor, which I loved! We learn the back story of the characters and world building as we read. And we don't have to wait to meet the dragons! FYI, Aurelith and Elyphora are everything. 🙌

I could feel the emotion, heart, and soul that L.C. put into every word. We follow Allara on her journey to trust others and herself while overcoming so much trauma to save her land. The butterflies.. 🥹 I could FEEL what she felt while reading. And that is what makes a fantastic read.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC from the author. This was a decent story it just felt a little jumbled, like there should have been a story before this one. The idea is very good and I liked the way it went I just felt like some backstory is needed.

I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC read and what a thrilling book this was. I was hooked from the first chapter! Dragons, a curse, cages, witty banter from the dragons and a love interest thrown in there. I was not ready for this book to end. I want more of Allara and Kastor!

A princess on the run from a corrupt crown and the rebel leader who wants to end her family's rein. They are supposed to be enemies on opposite sides of the fight. But somehow they find themselves in a fragile alliance to fight against their mutual true enemy and a corruption that is threatening the land itself.

Allara is not just any princess and no damsel in distress. She is a badass bonded with two dragons and unique fire magic. Kastor is the duty bound rebel leader who's mission it is to bring down Allara's corrupt bloodline who is destroying the very land. However this story is so much more then dragons, rebellion and an evil queen.

The Line of Ash is a fast paced story that's drops us right in after Allara has be captured by the rebels. Expecting the cruelty that she has come to expect from those around her she is surprised by the rebels who she enters into a fragile alliance with. Through the story I enjoyed seeing her relationships with both Kastor and the other rebels slowly shift from an uneasy truce, to mutual understanding and into true friendships with found family vibes. As we move through the book we slowly learn and to begin to understand why Allara finds it so hard to trust and believe in people intentions towards her. She is deeply traumatised by her past and have those she should have been able to trust, use and betray her. You feel every emotion she goes through thanks to the amazing writing of the Author and I love how we see her work through some of this trauma and how it ties into her magical abilities. The magic she possess are very unique and it was great to see her learn to control them as she gained confidence in herself and learnt how to trust those around her.

The slow burn between Allara and Kastor is very believable with the slow shifts in their relationship through the book. And do not get me started on her Dragons. I instantly fell in love with both of them and how we have a wiser older dragon and a younger sassy dragon who reminds me of teenage Andarna from Forth Wing wanting to eat her enemies. The Banter between the dragons, the rebels as well as Allara and Kastor really made this book an enjoyable read.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in return for a honest opinion.

Thank you to the author for allowing this advanced read.

This is a romantic fantasy. The book is about 340 pages.

It was definitely advanced read ready. It is publish ready in my opinion.

The author did issue an updated version when I was halfway through it as some polishing had been done. I didn't find anything wrong with the first half that I read of the first released advanced read copy other than one sentence I didn't quite understand. it remained in the second copy so it's apparently not something that needed correction.

There are some mild spoilers included below:

Almost everything worked:

– Succinct storytelling
– Compelling female main character
– Compelling plot
– Band of found family
– dragons with actual personality
– Action and adventure
– Compelling and excellent writing

What mildly didn't work:

– While the MMC was compelling, I didn't really feel that I knew him that well.
– It almost feels as if you're supposed to know this world more than you do, understand some of the rules of magic, and the world building. It's explained enough, but at the same time I felt that I was missing something.

Comment:

The spice is not closed doors, but it's not explicit – descriptive either. If you're looking for fantasy romance or spice, this is not the story for you. This is a romantic fantasy. It's not particularly romantic, but the developing attraction and support between the characters builds throughout the book is compelling and satisfying.

What I really liked and really didn't like:

I liked that it didn't have trials. It wasn't that kind of fantasy. Trials and quests get rather tiresome in every fantasy book you pick up. Yes I know that's part of the genre. It's refreshing not to have it sometimes.

It does have training. The physical fighting part made sense, but I didn't understand how the non-magic MMC became her magic mentor as well. But it was written succinctly without a lot of suffering or fanfare.

I didn't understand the scene where she just basically let someone walk up and capture her without fighting back.

I love a cold opening when you're thrown into the story, into action. A+, I also loved the cold opening leading right into a rescue/escape and snarky dragon dialogue.

I don't particularly like vaguing up or hinting at sex. Either write it or don't. I appreciate if someone isn't comfortable writing sex scenes, but don't start a sex scene and get poetic about it instead of explicit.

I don't particularly like vaguing up abuse whether physical, mental, or sexual. Name it. Or don't include it.

My opinion is if as a writer one can write fairly explicit murder/battle scenes and even joke about the dragons eating people, one does not to vague up spice or abuse.

This is a five star read as I weighted the whole of the structure and storytelling more heavily than what I felt was missing or I didn't like.

I absolutely loved the bonded dragons in this book—especially since our FMC, Allara, has two of them! They were hilarious, feisty, and had me laughing out loud so many times. I also adored Allara’s unique magic with the fire butterflies—such a cool and creative touch. The slow-burn yearning between Allara and the MMC, Kastor, was another highlight for me. He’s the strong, silent, broody type, and I was completely here for it.

That said, the beginning felt a bit like jumping into the second book of a series. I was somewhat lost at first and wished there had been more setup, as the story throws you right into the action. The ending also felt rushed and slightly disjointed. The sudden introduction of multiple POVs and chapters that seemed to come out of nowhere made it feel a bit out of order. I would have loved more explanation of the magic system and the curse, as well as deeper backstory on Kastor—especially how he became the leader of the rebels.

Overall, despite some pacing and structural issues, this book had a lot of heart. The dragons, magic, and slow-burn romance kept me invested, and I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes next

The Line of Ash by L.C. Browning is the kind of fantasy that grabs you from page one and refuses to let go. I tore through this book in a day and a half, completely swept up in its danger, magic, and emotional depth. If the high-stakes fantasy of Fourth Wing had a baby with the fierce, resilient FMC energy of Throne of Glass, this would be it.

Allara is a standout heroine, strong not because she’s unbreakable, but because she keeps fighting despite her trauma. I loved that her inner strength is earned and evolving, not handed to her. The slow, believable trust built between her and Kastor is one of the book’s greatest strengths. Their dynamic is layered with tension, uncertainty, and restraint, making every interaction feel charged and meaningful without overpowering the story.

The worldbuilding is rich and immersive, filled with everything fantasy lovers crave: dragons, rebellion, magic, curses, even an evil queen, and a found family that feels truly earned. The magic system feels fresh and vibrant, and the supporting characters bring humor, heart, and purpose. They matter to the story rather than simply existing around it. I especially loved how the found-family dynamic becomes deeply woven into both the FMC and MMC’s journey.

As a first book in a series, The Line of Ash does carry the weight of worldbuilding and setup, but it still delivers a satisfying conclusion while clearly setting the stage for what’s to come. The story balances action, emotion, and just enough romance to ground the stakes, leaving me fully invested in this broken world and eager for the next installment.

This book is fast-paced, emotional, and packed with classic fantasy elements done right, it is perfect for readers who love runaway royals, reluctant heroes, rebellion, dragons, and slow-burn tension in a beautifully dangerous world.

Thank you to L.C. Browning for the opportunity to read this early. I’ll absolutely be continuing the series. 🖤🐉

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely devoured The Line of Ash by L.C. Browning. From the very beginning, the story pulls you straight into the action and refuses to slow down. 🐉🔥

The story follows Allara, a runaway princess who has spent most of her life trapped by the expectations and corruption of her royal bloodline. When she is captured by the rebel leader Kastor, she expects cruelty or death, not the complicated alliance that begins to form between them. ⚔️

Allara is such a compelling FMC. She’s strong, resilient, and deeply shaped by the trauma she’s experienced, yet she refuses to let that trauma define or control her. Watching her slowly reclaim her power and learn to trust the people around her was one of my favorite parts of the book. 🖤

And the dragons? Absolutely incredible. Allara is bonded to two dragons who each bring their own personality to the story, one wise and steady, the other younger and full of chaotic energy. Their banter and interactions with Allara added both humor and heart to the story. 🐉✨

The slow burn between Allara and Kastor was another highlight. Kastor begins the story determined to end her bloodline, yet as the story unfolds their relationship slowly shifts from hostility, to uneasy alliance, and eventually into something much more complex. That gradual change made their dynamic feel incredibly believable. 🔥

I also loved the found family dynamic within the rebel group. The relationships that develop throughout the story felt natural and earned, adding emotional depth to the larger conflict surrounding the rebellion and the curse tied to Allara’s family.

The worldbuilding blends dragons, rebellion, curses, magic, and political tension into a story that feels immersive without becoming overwhelming. It’s a fast-paced fantasy filled with action, emotion, and characters that are easy to become invested in. 📚⚔️

Overall, this was such a fun and engaging fantasy read, and I’m already excited to see where the story goes next.

This fantasy adventure opens in the thick of danger, setting the tone for a gripping tale of rebellion, magic, and self-discovery. Allara, the FMC, is a princess on the run—not only from her ruthless grandmother, the ruling queen, but also from the painful truth of who she is and the magic she carries. Her escape from the castle and the crown’s oppressive rule goes sideways when she’s captured by a rebel group led by Kastor, a hardened MMC still reeling from the death of his sister.
The story wastes no time, throwing readers straight into tension, uncertainty, and high stakes. As Allara struggles to survive, she must also confront the scars of her past and the volatile power within her. Her emotional growth is one of the book’s shining points; watching her slowly gain control over her abilities—and her future—is deeply satisfying.
The story world is rich with elements fantasy lovers crave: an evil queen pulling strings from the shadows, the simmering threat and wonder of magic, the presence of dragons, and just the right amount of romance to balance the danger. Allara and Kastor’s dynamic is layered, built on uncertainty, distrust, and a spark of something more.
Supporting characters truly enhance the journey, offering humor, heart, tension, and purpose rather than simply filling space. Their arcs contribute meaningfully to both character development and plot.
One of the greatest strengths of the book is its resolution. The author closes every storyline with care, ensuring that no threads are left dangling and leaving readers deeply satisfied when the journey ends.
Fast-paced, emotional, and filled with fantastical flair, this story is perfect for readers who love runaway royals, reluctant heroes, found-family rebellion, and a dash of romance set against a beautifully dangerous world.

The Line of Ash is a perfect mix of Fourth Wing and Throne of Glass. Allara is the heir to a throne that she never wanted after it took her mother away from her. Always hidden in a cage by her grandparents, the King and Queen, she has broken away to find a way to end their kingdom plagued by a curse of her bloodline's doing. And if there's one thing about Allara, it's that she won't be caged by anyone.

That only becomes more apparent when she's captured by the rebel's leader, Kastor Rhane, who's determined to kill her and end the curse on their country. But while she knows she's supposed to hate Kastor and everything he stands for, the more time Allara spends with him and the rebels, the more she comes to realize that somethings trusting people around you isn't a curse, but safety and security.

Kastor gave such Xaden Riorson vibes and I am HERE FOR IT. The tension between the two of them had me flipping the page waiting until it finally bubbled over. Because this the first in a series, I'm so glad this was a true slow burn and didn't speed to developing their relationship before the story was ready. The way it was written and grew closer to that moment was perfectly executed.

Just when I thought the story was over, I got more POVs that really gave deeper context to all of the things that happened to both Ravina and Allara before the opening of the story. It was helpful and I can't wait to see what other glimpses of that past we'll get as the series unfolds.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this from the author (thank you LCB!!!) and can only hope for the same opportunity for the next one because I am readyyyyy!

This gets a good solid 4.5 stars from me

The best thing about this book is the dragons!!! They are amazing. And the humor right off the bat had me drawn into the story. I need more!

This book starts off with our MFC who is kinda kidnapped and gets free only to become part of the rebels. There is some negative things with her family (who are king and queen). We have our MMC who is a golden retriever in all ways. As the story progresses, you learn more why our MFC doesn’t trust. She gets kidnapped back to the crown and you find out more about what dear old king and queen have done to her. The story progresses and there is a battle toward the end. I wish this would have been more emotional during those last few moments in the castle but it was still a great book. I do wanna know what happened with a certain dragon.

Also there isn’t really on scene/page spice besides some hands roaming and kissing. Most spice is off page so if you’re expecting spicy, don’t. But it’s perfect the way it’s written in the book. Especially with our MFC. I’ll just leave that there

Also there are some areas I would love to have more answers, like the issues with the local area, more about why the Queen/king are the way they are. I would love a prequel and more books. Here is to the dragon empire!

I want more of these dragons and our MMC/MFC. Sassy dragons, a lovable MMC and a MFC who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. I am thankful I was able to receive an early copy as I will have to have a shelf trophy of the SE.

Things I liked:
When it comes to fantasy books being fast-paced, I am all for it! LCB starts the story with an intensity that had me instantly going, woah whats going on! I was drawn in, and intrigued by the unique magic the FMC wields, butterflies that can swarm and turn into fire disc's!? That's new!
The witty and feisty dragons had me cackling! From wanting to keep the townspeople as a snack for later, and then dumping the FMC and MMC in the lake to teach them a lesson... classic.
Loved how she was already mated to the dragons, we didnt have the same ole fight to claim a dragon, etc. The love between the FMC and her dragons was heartwarming.
The chapters where the FMC remembers time with her mom were my favorite. Those are the ones that pull at your heart strings.

Things that caused me to rate this lower:
The ending of the book was a bit rushed and out of order?
All of a sudden we have different POVs added in, and a chapter that felt like it should have been an epilogue to set the baseline of the story.
Would love to see some more descriptive details, being that this is titled an epic fantasy book, I want to be immersed into this world. Give me visuals! Maybe that's just a personal opinion.
Wanted a bit more info on the curse. I don't feel like I fully grasped it, even with the chapter at the end.
Definitely look forward to the next book, as theres definitely going to be growth in this authors writing!

Thank you LCB for this advance copy! 🔥
Loss, trauma, torture, revenge, political intrigue, rebellion, and court corruption.. this book tackles some really heavy themes. I really enjoyed how mental health is represented in the story and how we can even feel Allara’s struggles and insecurities stemming from her traumatized childhood. However, I would have loved to read more about the Curse, the magic system, and all the Court affairs. I feel that a bit more explanation on those aspects would have added more layers to the story, enhancing both the understanding and the plot development.
That being said, I really liked the plotline, the pacing, and the characters. The slow burn was really interesting. Kastor is a lovable MMC without being extremely dark or brooding. He leads the Rebels, and we can clearly see how much he cares for them and for the Cause. And later, we also see how he feels about Allara and how their relationship evolves. The side characters were charming, funny, and incredibly easy to fall for.
And Aurelith and Elyphora were hilarious. Somewhere between a mother hen and an annoying sister, they sometimes stole the show. I loved their relationship with Allara, how much they care about her, and her promising future ❤️‍🔥
You'll find these Tropes:
🔥Enemies to Lovers
🔥Bloodline Curse
🔥Found Family
🔥Dragons
🔥Unique Magic System
🔥Slow Burn Romance
🔥Corrupted Kingdom
🔥Loss & Trauma
🔥Mental Health Rep.

ARC REVIEW: I LOVED this book! 5 stars!!! What I loved about this book:
1. The dragon banter was top tier! They were hilarious. It was comical from chapter 1. They comically roasted everyone! Elyphora is a girl's best friend, she is a ride-or-die, light your butt on fire to motivate and pick you up, type of dragon; quite literally. Aurelith, is the constant, encouraging older confidant, who lifts you up, but won't take your bs or whining. Both are necessary and amazing; you can't live without them.
2. The banter between Allara and Kastor is also great. Enemies to supportive understanding to lovers. Slow tension and buildup. This is closed door spice.
3. The writing style. It's poetic. It sweeps you in and keeps your attention very easily. You won't put this book down.
4. The mental health rep. It's done beautifully. You feel Allara's pain, trauma, and you connect; whether you've experienced trauma or not. You relate. The trauma is generational. It's bone deep.
5. Found family; especially Ollie.
6. Retribution.
7. Magic system.
8. Have I mentioned the dragons?

I cannot wait for the prequel and the sequel. I cannot wait to see everything in this world. The backstory in this world is just as important as the present story. The epilogues are just as good as the main story. Some make you laugh; some make your heart hurt. I cannot say enough about this book.

Definitely add The Line of Ash to your TBR. It comes out Feb 13, 2026. You will not regret it!!!

I enjoyed The Line of Ash overall. The writing was direct, easy to read, and solid, the author clearly knows her stuff. The plot itself was good, but something in the execution didn’t quite hit for me, and I did struggle with parts of it. It may simply not have been fully my thing.
The main characters were okay, but I wanted more depth from both the FMC and MMC; they felt a bit thin at times. I especially didn’t get a strong impression of the antagonist (the queen). She never quite came alive on the page for me.
One highlight was the humour from the dragons; it reminded me a little of the banter in Fourth Wing, which I really enjoyed. The love scene was handled with real delicacy too, which I appreciated. Some writers lean too heavily into smut, but this definitely wasn’t the case here.
I did find the dream scenes a bit distracting. They seemed intended to develop character, but I think that could have been done more effectively in the present timeline; they pulled me out of the story somewhat.
Overall, this is a good story that just needed a little more space to breathe. It’s not very long, and I think that's where it could have helped, offering more background and detail; definitely it could easily have been a 4 star read for me. Because I can’t leave 3.5 stars and the author clearly put a lot of work and time into it, I’ve rounded up to 4.

I received an ARC copy of The Line of Ash, but my review has not been influenced in any way. This is my honest opinion.

This is a book about adventure, purpose, banter (both between humans and between humans and dragons), friendships, loyalties, kingdom politics, and magic… but above all that, what stood out the most to me was Allara’s (FMC) internal conflict.

(Please take care of yourself by reading the TWs beforehand to see if this book is for you.)

I spent more than two thirds of the story feeling for her: for her loss, for her sacrifice, for her sense of duty, for her hardships, and for her trauma. A trauma that clawed its way into every aspect of her persona like a poisoned vine, making her doubt herself and the world that surrounds her.

Thankfully, L.C. Browning gifted her an ensemble of characters that provide the safety she so desperately needs, including Kastor (MMC), the leader of the rebellion; her dragons, Elyphora and Aurelith; and a group of people who accept her and welcome her into their circle like a new member of their family.
It is thanks to all of them that Allara is able to step into her true power and embrace her new role in the new era that the kingdom of Tavros needs.

L.C. Browning has a very particular writing style: very detailed and almost poetic, often using short sentences or even isolated words to help the reader immerse themselves in the world she has built.

Overall, watching Allara’s growth throughout the book felt as satisfying as watching Monica prepare her famous marinara sauce.

I received an ARC and I'm giving my opinion freely.

This book is hardcore fantasy through and through. When I received this ARC, I was genuinely excited to dive in—the premise had so many elements I usually enjoy, and I went into it with high hopes. I did read it all the way through, but in the end, it just wasn’t the right fit for me personally.

That being said, the story itself was gripping and rich with classic fantasy elements. Dragons, princesses, an evil queen, a destined hero, and an overarching curse—this book truly checks all the boxes for readers who love traditional, immersive fantasy worlds. The stakes were high, the worldbuilding was detailed, and the plot was clearly crafted with care.

For me, though, it was a bit of a struggle to get through. The depth and intensity of the fantasy leaned heavier than what I typically gravitate toward, and I didn’t find myself completely absorbed in the way I hoped. I didn’t absolutely demolish this book like I do with some reads, but I still appreciate the story for what it was and the effort behind it.

Just because it wasn’t my personal favorite doesn’t mean it won’t be the perfect book for someone else. Readers who love dense fantasy, classic tropes, and richly built worlds with dragons and magic will likely really enjoy this one. It simply wasn’t my cup of tea—but I can absolutely see it finding its audience.

If you're looking for a quick fantasy read that is full of dragons, magic, political betrayal, and an evil queen, this this might be for you!

We jump right into action from the start. We have Allara, our FMC, who has been through a lot of trauma and just doing what she has to in order to survive. She is strong and full of fire magic. Then we have Kastor, our MMC, who is broody, protective, and a ruthless leader of the rebels. And we cannot forget about the dragons! Allara is bonded to two dragons, which is a bit unique, and both of them have personalities on opposite sides of the spectrum, but they are both amazing.

We go on the journey of Allara escaping from the castle, the evil queen is her grandmother, and pairing up with the rebels to help to try to destroy the throne to combat the curse that is killing everybody and everything.

This book was easy and quick to read, and I enjoyed it, however, I do wish there was a bit more. I wanted to know and understand more of the backstory. We got some pieces, but just a little. I also wanted to understand more about the magic system and the curse itself. The writing style is also a bit more on the staccato side, and sometimes that writing style is difficult for me personally, but it does make it quick and descriptive.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this one early!

The Line Of Ash holds your attention from the first page. Immediately starting off with Allara (our FMC) in a rebel dungeon after being on the run from her grandparents, the evil Queen and King.

Allara’s mother gave up her status as heir to the kingdom to keep her. Causing the fracture of the Crown and the loss of her magic, cascading to a curse on the kingdom in which magic is dying out.

When Allara and her dragons forms an unexpected alliance with the rebels and their commander, Kastor (MMC), she begins to gain confidence in herself, her magic and what she needs to do in order to save herself and the kingdom.

The banter was excellent, especially from Allara and her dragons. I do wish we could have gotten more insight and pov from Kastor seeing that he came off more of a side character rather than a MC with how little we were able to get to know or interact from him.

Additionally I found myself needing more details about the kingdom, the curse, the characters back stories, etc. otherwise this would have been a 6⭐️ read! If this story continues I would love to see more details and more about the MMC and side characters, world building and possibly a slower pace to allow an expansion of details. It was just a bit rushed in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this book and feel it has so much potential!

Thank you to the author for allowing me to ARC read for you!

Thank you so much L.C Browning for the arc. This book books starts off straight into action with the world building resembling a slow burn.

We follow our heroine fmc as she tries to escape her grandmother (the queen) and the castle that still lives on old values and believe in repressing anyone who threatens their lives of luxury.
While one the road she is the captured by the rebels and first hold hostage but then after a rescue by her two dragons she decides to work with them to bring down the monarch.

The dragons is the perfect balance as one is ancient and wise and the other one young funny and fiercy protective over her master even if it ‘means eating awfully tasting humans’

The pace of the book is great and the author has a great talent for describing scenes, and you will get fully immerse in the story, oh and there is molten butterflies if you need another reason!

i have a feeling the curse and all its after effects will all became clear with the following books as there is still a lot of unanswered questions. The book does not end on a massive cliffhanger but will leave you wanting more.
The only reason for the 4 starts and not 5 is that it took me personally a while to get use to the author's writing style, its just not a style i have read a lot in the past.

I will definitely read book two!

The Line of Ash jumps right into the action! The backstory is intertwined and sprinkled throughout the story, which I love.

I really enjoyed the magic system, the side characters, and of course, the dragons. Aurelith just felt so motherly. She was so encouraging, sensible, and wise, and knew when to push Allara and when to support her. Elyphora has the spunk and the sass of a sibling, but she IS Allara’s baby. I feel like both dragons center her in the best, and comforting way.

Watching Allara come from this guarded exiled princess that felt so suffocated everywhere she went, even suffocating inside of her own body, to letting her walls down was fantastic. It was almost like she was in her cocoon and flourished into a butterfly.

Line of Ash is a quick, but thrilling, enchanting, and enjoyable read. You can feel the passion and how personal this story is to our author, L.C. Browning. Oh, and did I mention a hot slow-burn romance? I’m excited to learn more about the curse in future installments!

Special thank you to @authorlcb for this advanced copy for my honest review.

I received this as an ARC, review is voluntary.
This fantasy novel delivers a rich blend of royalty, dragons, rebellion, magic, and a touch of romance. At its heart is Princess Allara, a layered and emotionally complex heroine burdened by her kingdom’s crumbling legacy and a curse that is slowly draining the land of its magic. Hated by rebels who blame her royal line, Allara is forced into unexpected circumstances that challenge everything she believes about herself, her power, and her place in the world.
One of the standout elements is Allara’s bond with her dragons—their banter adds humor and warmth, balancing the darker themes. As she becomes entangled with the rebel group and its commander, Kastor, the story explores loyalty, identity, and resilience. While Kastor is a compelling and steadfast presence, readers may wish for more insight into his perspective, which will hopefully be expanded in future installments.
The supporting cast adds depth and a strong sense of found family, while the ruling monarchs are written in a way that makes them easy to despise. L.C. Browning’s prose is vivid and immersive, bringing both the world and its emotional stakes to life.
With strong character foundations and clear potential for expanded world-building in future books, this is a promising start to a fantasy series that I’m excited to continue.

Firstly, I'd like to thank L.C. Browning and their team for the opportunity to receive an ARC copy of The Line of Ash. It is always an absolute pleasure when an author trusts you with their baby, and I take that very seriously. Now, onto the review.

Wow, just wow.
I don't even know where to start with this one without breaking out in a song and dance that will absolutely spoil it for everyone.

I loved everything about this.
The powers, the people, the dragons.
I laughed, I cried, I tried not to throw my kindle across the room.
I really enjoyed not being hit over the head with every piece of information conceivable. I finished this so happy, so excited for what's to come, but with so many questions I want to claw through my screen to beg the author for the next installment.

I absolutely adored the characters; there is something so special about the gang that I hope we see more of them as a group in later books. And good riddance to other characters that shall not be named!

Elyphora and Aurelith are amazing! I loved them so much. Again, no spoilers but to my fantasy girls, just know Elyphora and Andarna from Fourth Wing would get on like a house on fire (no pun intended).
