Louis spent his childhood doing whatever he could to get by in the little village he calls home. He must leave the orphanage now that he’s come of age, and there’s one thing he wants above all freedom from poverty. His best shot at making a stable life for himself lies in graduating from Arneval Academy. If only the tuition weren’t so expensive.
In need of work, Louis registers with the Adventurer’s Guild where he meets Bolt, a seasoned adventurer who insists they form a party together and even helps Louis save up for his school fees. But life at the academy still comes at a price, and Louis finds staying in the party with Bolt might not be so bad, especially as feelings begin to bloom with every new adventure.
However, all is not as it seems. Bolt may not be who he claims, and the mysteries of Louis’s own past might very well upend everything he thought he knew about himself. Will the truth break their bond, or will it draw them closer than ever?
My reviews are my own. If you liked this book or not, I respect your opinion. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous. My review is honest and voluntary.
I thought this story was going to at least have some adventure before he started school, but it jumped right into it. Then, into politics. I don't get the fixation on royalty. It is incredibly generic. "Poor kid goes to rich school, nobody likes me." There is no character background or relationship development. Then the plot twist is so predictable that I was just expecting it from the beginning. Even if the MC is who it is, who cares? That is the past, someone else's past; why the need to go back to that? Why not live your life as yours and not for others? Why even get tested.....so ridiculous. Character-wise, they basically took an airhead female character and gave him a male name. "Copy/Paste" repetitive troupe. Nothing unique or innovative. Also, sex with a partner does NOT require penetration; we need to stop with these preconceived ideas of what is considered sex. Such close-minded writing only causes further confusion among readers. If you are going to write about a topic, please educate yourself on the topic. Also, white liquid?? member??? PLEASE! Meh! Not worth the money. Will not continue the series. Generic, predictable, and boring.
