A steamy single mom, enemies-to-lovers, best friend’s ex, pro hockey romance from USA Today and Amazon Top 26 bestselling author Jennifer Sucevic.
I swore I’d never fall for another hockey player. Not after Zane. My ex and the father of my daughter.
But when I need a place to stay, River Thompson is the one who opens his door. My ex’s teammate and best friend. Completely off-limits. The man who looks at me like I’ve always belonged to him.
There’s just one catch… I have to share his bed.
Living under the same roof makes it impossible to ignore the way he’s been quietly biding his time. He’s patient, protective, and determined to prove he’s not like the man who broke me. And the way he is with my daughter makes it even harder to guard my heart.
Every night I spend in his bed, the slow burn between us threatens to ignite.
Trusting River means risking not only my heart, but my daughter’s too. The scariest part?
I’m starting to believe he might be worth it.
Hold Me Tight is a best friend’s ex, enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn pro hockey romance with a hero who’s been biding his time—and a heroine afraid to trust her heart to the wrong man again.

Another great entry to the Chicago Railers Hockey and it's one I was highly anticipating.
I love a single mom and a pining hero. This one also involved the added drama of the hero being her ex's Best Friend, though they haven't been close in awhile.
River knows what he wants, and what he wants Callie and her little girl, Nora. He's bided his time and watched his teammate and friend push these precious girls aside. He has so much to offer and he definitely goes for the maximum effort.
This was oddly comforting and warmed my heart on every level. Then it came in with the heat just when we needed it most. He even bought her toys so she could discover what she liked even more. I adored that.
Overall, this was a great read and I look forward to some other couples being teased.
Narrated in Duet Style by Vivienne LaRue & Grayson Owens. Highly recommend the audio.
4.5 Stars 3 on the spice scale
*Thank you to Must Love Audio and the author for an ALC of this title.*
2.5 ⭐️. This should have been everything I love but it was all just slightly off.
Hot hockey player, River, is obsessed with beautiful Callie and her cute 2 yr old, Nora. She owns her own bakery but is struggling financially. He’s been wanting her for years and finally decides it’s his time to make a move and let her know how he feels. He is OTT devoted and will do anything for her. She is rightly like ‘wtf is happening’ and slow to trust.
😕third act issue - her ex (his former friend and current teammate) claims to still be in love w her. He’s not; he’s engaged to someone else and doing a reality show. She literally saw him pummel our hero on the ice right before he declares his love and is all like “gee, maybe he’s a good guy after all”. What the absolute dumbassery is this??? And after River has shown her shown her so much love in every way. He deserved better than her doubt at that point. -🗣️Communication. I love how River put his heart and intentions out from the beginning. She always knew where she stood w him. She was less direct about her feelings. 👀 Forced proximity - River has been showing up each day at her bakery for months, and then decides to up his game and offers to babysit. She agrees bc idk? And then they go shopping, she sees a notice posted that her rent is increased, and THE SAME DAY he has her and her 2 yr old moving in and her sleeping in his bed. 🫣No OW. OM - her annoying ex. 🩵Celibate H - Hasn’t been w anyone in 3 yrs, essentially since he saw her; even tho she was w his friend and then pregnant - he waited for her. 👧🏼Single mom - she has a cute 2 yr old who is immediately in love w River. Her calls her Ladybug and she calls him Rivvy. They are legit adorable together. Deadbeat millionaire ex/baby daddy who provides barely any support while living the high life. Knows she’s struggling and doesn’t care. 👥Dual POV. Engagement and then marriage one yr later (I think) in epilogue.
‼️Rant. Apologies in advance. Spoilers.‼️
Things that bugged me: - OTT obsessed H - I usually love this, but I feel like for it to work well the H needs to be morally grey and unhinged. River was portrayed as too much of a green flag and to me he read as slightly creepy. - There were no small moments explaining his love or their connection. Lots of sweet time w him and little Nora, but almost none of them together, unless it was sex. - At the end when she met w the ex after the game, I wanted her to stand up for River and punch him, not actually believe him. 🙄 - Also, why can everyone just walk into this man’s house without knocking????? - DO NOT use the last chapter to introduce another book. She did this the last time, too. It was no less annoying this time.
Overplayed tropes: - financially strapped and struggling single mom and hero MMC who comes to her rescue. Can we be done w this? - sexually deprived FMC who needs MMC to teach her. He buys her toys and is going to teach her how to pleasure herself?? No. Get out. - terrible manipulative ex and dumb FMC who almost gives everything away and falls for his tricks. Why was she suddenly so dumb?? Like, it’s beyond.
Okay. Sorry. Not sorry. I’m done.

I have been dying for River’s story after watching him yearn for Callie in Make Me Yours. I finished this in literally under 24 hours. That should tell you how swoony this man is. The pining this man has been doing for years, over his best friend’s ex. River knew Callie changed his life the moment he saw her and has been waiting for his shot ever since. Not only is he head over heels for Callie, but her adorable two year old daughter Nora. (he calls her ladybug, My heart.) The instant connection that Nora and ‘Rivvy’ built absolutely pulled at all my heartstrings.
After Callie’s trash of a baby daddy leaves her and Nora time after time, she’s very hesitant to believe River is any different than Zane. But here comes River to show Callie just exactly how a queen should be treated. How she should have been treated all along. Not only Callie, but instantly treating Nora like she was his own and showing up for them both even in the simplest of ways.
I loved River’s relationship with his twin sister Willow along with all the hockey men. Then there’s the girls always there for Callie. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this group! 👀
Thanks to Jennifer Sucevic and Valentine PR for this ARC!
Another enjoyable read by Jennifer! Not only that, but the audiobook in duet format was fantastic. I love Vivienne and Grayson’s work, so definitely pick this one up in audio.
Now, let’s talk about River. I love this man, he was patient, kind, and always made sure Callie wanted things before taking what he wanted. He’s the guy who’s been obsessed for years, quietly watching from a distance. He was absolutely perfect, and I loved how he willingly stepped in to look after little Norah. She’s so adorable.
Callie has built walls because of her ex, the one who walked away, cared more about his ego and image than being a father, and left her to do everything on her own. She’d do anything for her daughter and keeps pushing forward, even when she’s struggling financially. I really liked her character… though I’d still like to throttle her ex.
I will say, I was shocked when the ex said he wanted to try again. I honestly didn’t think she’d spiral from that, since she seemed completely over him from the start. I’m so glad she ended up with the man she truly deserves.
Lastly what happened to Norah’s room?! That door was left open, and I wish I knew!

Hold Me Tight had so many elements I love in a romance, especially a single mom storyline with a MMC who genuinely wants to take care of her and remind her of her worth. Those moments absolutely worked for me and kept me turning the pages.
That said, a few parts did feel a little cringe. The MMC’s instant fixation on her sometimes edged into “obsessed from the moment he met her,” and it pulled me out of the story here and there. Maybe I was just in my head too much, but a little more build up would have made their connection land stronger for me.
What I did love was the couple together once they found their rhythm. Their dynamic felt sweet and supportive and the little girl was absolutely precious. She added so much heart to the story.
A cozy, protective, single mom romance with plenty of tender moments, just with a few bumps along the way for me.
I am really enjoying this series! I was looking forward to watching River and Callie's story after the teasers we got in book 1, and I was not disappointed. River was SOOO DOWN BAD! He was Callie's private protector, out loud supporter, and overall biggest fan. He wanted her so badly but really in any way he could get her. He realized a little too late how terrible his friend was to her and wanted to be able to show her how she deserved to be treated. Watching Callie realize that who she thought River was was completely wrong was pretty satisfying. He kept surprising her. He showed up time and time again. He was patient with her. He was wonderful for her and her daughter. He wanted to give them a soft place to land while recognizing how hard Callie worked. Watching Callie lower her walls and let him in was great! I also loved the spice build up! Who DOESN'T love a walk in on the shower situation scene- it cranks the tension even higher than normal. Their chemistry was there from the jump and just kept getting stronger throughout the book. I did have a challenge with the third act breakup because come on woman- River has been your rock BUT we all have our demons that follow us around. Callie's was just in her face confusing her.
Callie can't believe she is in this situation. She is behind on rent at the bakery and now her landlord is jacking up her rent. How can she not catch a break? And of course she can't lean on Nora's dad, Zane. He never pays her anything- he is too selfish. Enter River Thompson. Callie's ex's best friend- or so she thinks. The man who comes into her shop every day to order coffee. The man who she wants nothing to do with yet she knows there is an attraction between them. Somehow he is now offering her a place to stay and not just any place but HIS place. He wants to give Nora her own room and share one with Callie. She doesn't want to accept but doesn't know what else to do. So she says yes. But her walls are still very much up around River. He has made his intentions clear, but she has no room in her heart for a man. They just let her down. But River seems determined to prove her wrong. He keeps showing up for her again and again. He is making it harder and harder for her not want him in more ways than one. Especially when he starts offering to help with her with Nora. Now she finds herself saying yes. Yes to dates. Yes to bed. Yes to his body. Yes to a future. But then her ex comes in and gets her all confused on what is real and what isn't. And she finds herself wanting everything to be real because she really loves River. And she wants him as her forever.
River has wanted Callie since the day he met her three years ago. The day he was introduced to her as his best friend's girlfriend. Well since then he has realized that his best friend isn't who he thought he was. He has also realized that he would do anything for Callie. He knows she thinks he is someone he isn't. So he makes it his life's mission to prove her wrong. He goes to her store every day. He thinks that day will be the day he actually asks her out. But then he chickens out and realizes he has work to do. And then an opportunity presents itself- she needs a place to stay. And so he offers her his place. He wants her to move in. Her and her daughter Nora. He has made it clear that he wants more. He wants a chance and though she has turned him down- he believes he can wear her down. He just has to show up. He has to show her that Zane, her ex, isn't the bar. He is the exception. He shows her how she deserves to be treated and he loves it. He loves her and her daughter in his home. He wants them there forever. So when Callie finally lets him, it's like all of his dreams are coming true. He is dating her. He is with her. She has chosen him. But then her ex gets in the way and tries to confuse what their relationship is. And River can only hope that Callie believes everything he has ever said. Because at the end of the choosing him is her choice. And he hopes she picks him.
I really like this found family! I have found myself plotting who all is coming down the pipe as far as relationships go. I really enjoyed Callie and River. I liked how down bad they were for each other even though Callie fought it for longer. I also loved River's internal dialogue and how HAPPY he was when she finally gave in. I also loved the realness that Callie felt when she finally decided that River was her forever. Just a great easy spicy read. Also I recommend the audio- I did a dual read/listen! Looking forward to the next one :)
Thank you to Valentine PR and Jennifer for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Loved River!!!!! He’s amazing and patient!!!! Him and Nora were adorable. His nickname for her was ladybug!!!! In my opinion he deserved better than Callie. I did not like her.

Little Rant about Callie⬇️
I really fucking hate that Callie thought about it!!!!! She’s telling Zane I don’t wanna get hurt again and then as soon as Zane gives asked the another chance, she’s thinks about it. Bitch please!!!! She made me want to slap her. I understand that she was thinking about her daughter, but like come on how many times does he have to disappoint you and your daughter to realize your ex is a douche bag who doesn’t give a fuck about you or his daughter? Like don’t you think it’s a little coincidental that he decides to ask you for another chance as soon as you as he sees you with River, the man who truly loves you. Not to mention you had River showing up and proving to you what kind of man he is that he’s not your ex, that he loves you and wants you and Nora forever. Another thing how the fuck can you think your ex paid off the loan for you?!?! The ex that has never done anything for you or his daughter??? You must be a stupid ass bitch to think that he paid it off and not the man who has been proving to you that he is there for not only but your kid.
I freaking enjoy a book when a guy is pining. He Falls First holds a special place in my heart.
River likes Callie. And he's a great catch. Sweet, caretaker, golden retriever type and handsome. Callie should be all over him. Right? Wrong. He's her exes team mate and friend. He's probably the same caliber of guy who doesn’t take care of his responsibilities too.
She's so wrong. And I loved watching her fall for him throughout the novel. The way he jumps in to take care of her daughter. Includes them both in his life in ways her ex never did? (So sweeeet!)
But the ex is still around. Causing drama wherever he goes. Boooo!
River knows where her heart is and he really takes care of it. It was really bruised. I love a stand up guy.
And so funny too. Callie has really made some good friends. And of course River's crew is funny AH.
If you want a literal walking green flag of a man, then River Thompson is yours! He has not been able to get Callie out of his mind since he first saw her…only she was dating his friend and teammate back then. Fast forward 3 years, when he finally decides to shoot his shot and show Callie what both her and her daughter deserve. But Callie has been burned and she isn’t going to trust him so easily, despite him stepping in to help them out when she’s in a tough spot. He is so patient and caring with both Callie and Nora and I literally was swooning from the first time he watched Nora. He became a source of strength and support for Callie and I loved seeing him show her that he wasn’t going anywhere!

If you're looking for a truly romantic, feel-good story - this is the one!
"I want more. More than she's ready for. More than she might ever be ready for."
River Thompson has been in love with this best friend's ex since the night he met her. Over the years, he's tried to move on but now that she needs someone to lean on and his friend in unwilling to step up, this is his chance to show Callie that he's the man she and her daughter needs.
This was such a gorgeous story. River was a total swoonfest! His adoration of little Nora was fit to make any woman's ovaries explode. The way he showed Callie that she mattered to him and that he wanted to ease her burdens just absolutely melted my heart. I loved that in spite of her mistrust of River, she came to realise that he was nothing like her ex. I was thrilled that she recognised the good in him and let herself lean into him. They were just achingly good for each other! Love it!
I have been waiting for River Thompson's story since meeting him in Mine to Take. River has secretly been pining for Zoe, his teammate's ex gf. As soon as the time is right River makes his intentions known to Zoe and doesn’t look back. He takes Zoe and her daughter into his home and treats them like they deserve.
Love getting tidbits of Maverick and Willow.
Narrated in dual by Vivienne LaRue & Grayson Owens. Love me some Grayson Owens. Vivienne is a new to me narrator and was great.
🔸️single mom 🔸️teammates ex 🔸️hockey romance 🔸️Green flag MMC
Did I just find my new favorite hockey series?! Yes, I most certainly did. The way that River, the MMC, is the biggest green flag I have ever seen just makes me want to swoon right here and now. Callie, the FMC, and her daughter Nora were basically “abandoned” by her hot shot hockey player who puts the d in douche. River, his teammate, steps up and shows them every day they are worth it. I’m not gonna lie there were times this book brought me to tears because of river’s words and what he expressed to Callie and how she & her daughter deserve the world. I haven’t read a hockey romance like that where it consumed me and I need the entire series now!
Thank you to Valentine PR & Jennifer Sucevic for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hold Me Tight is the definition of a feel good, heart-squeezing romance. It's tender, hopeful, and full of the kind of love that makes you believe in second chances. A cinnamon-roll hockey player, a strong single mom, and a little girl who steals every scene, Hold Me Tight is a soft, slow burn gem that glows with love, patience, and tenderness.
River Thompson is the ultimate green-flag hero: steady, kind, and completely smitten with Callie from the moment they met years ago, back when she was dating his teammate. Now, three years later, fate gives him another chance. When Callie and her young daughter, Nora, find themselves struggling, River steps in without hesitation, offering not just a place to stay but the kind of quiet, unwavering support both of them have always needed.
Callie, a hardworking single mom running her bakery and rebuilding her life after a painful breakup, doesn’t know how to trust again. Her ex left scars she’s still healing from, and River’s patience, consistency, and care begin to melt her walls one small gesture at a time. Watching him care for Nora, from bedtime stories to small acts of everyday kindness, is pure swoon material. He doesn’t just show up; he stays.
Their connection unfolds slowly, beautifully, as Callie learns that not all hockey players are heartbreakers, some are safe havens. The chemistry builds naturally, the tension laced with warmth rather than angst, making their eventual romance feel deeply earned. River is a lesson in quiet devotion, proving that love isn’t about grand gestures, but showing up, day after day.
The story shines with themes of trust, vulnerability, and healing, carried by an irresistibly sweet boy-falls-first dynamic. Vivienne LaRue and Grayson Owens’ narration for the audiobook elevated it even more for me, perfectly capturing River’s sincerity and Callie’s guarded strength. Great chemistry together too.
If you’re craving a boy-falls-first, single-mom, found-family hockey romance that will make you swoon, smile, and maybe tear up a little, River Thompson is waiting in all his green flag, dreamy glory... and he’s everything you’ve been hoping for.
✨ARC REVIEW✨ 4.5⭐️ River Thompson…OMG!! River has been taken by Callie since the day they met but she was off limits. Callie wants to do everything she can to provide for her daughter but when things get tight, her bakery loan is due and her rent is going up, she doesn’t know what’s going to come next. The last thing she expected was for a hotshot hockey player and her ex’s friend to take both her and her daughter in. River would do anything for Callie and Nora but after her horrible ex she has a hard time believing that he is any different. River steps up in all the ways he can, nothing big or flashy, just consistently being thee and being everything they both need. He’s determined to win her over and the more he shows her he cares the more she opens up to him. Callie is rightfully guarded but she’s starting to see not all hockey players are the same and River may just be exactly what she and her daughter need.
I just love Callie and River! The way River just drops everything to be what they need made my heart so so happy. He is such a good guy and when he takes care of Nora so Callie doesn’t have to worry about one more thing just melted me. I absolutely HATE Zane and wanted to throw my kindle across the room at some of the things he did. River though 1000% made up for it and so much more. He’s the strong and steady the girls needed and k just wanted to go tell Callie this is it he’s the one who will do it all for you. Also loved seeing River’s sister Callie!! An amazing read and would defitniely recommend this series! I can’t wait to go back and read more of her books!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️/5 📚 Book #2 in the "Chicago Railers Hockey" series; interconnected standalones 🗣️ Dual POV 🏒 Hockey Era 🖤 M/F
Sheesh, if a green flag was a person it would most defiantly be River. He knew that Callie was it for him, the moment that he saw her and he's just been biding his time to shoot his shot [pun intended 😂]. I am usually pretty firmly in the camp that I do not like the "Single Mom/Dad" trope but when its done right, it can be super sweet....this one was done right!
River had his work cut out for him, having to show Callie and Nora that they deserve to be the center of someone world and that he's that someone who wants them to be his whole world. Callie is guarded, and rightly so because shes not just worried about her heart but Nora's as well. Its not a concern cause River has got everything on lock, but I still appreciated that this wasnt an insta lover especially when dealing with a kid.
I truly love this series, and I cannot wait for the next book!
Tropes: 🏒 Forced Proximity 🖤 He Falls First 🏒 Hockey Player x Single Mom 🖤 Best Friend's Ex 🏒 Found Family 🖤 Enemies to Lovers 🏒 One Bed
This is the second book in this series and Jennifer did not disappoint with this book! You definitely can feel the emotion in this book! I devoured this book as I couldn’t get enough of it!
River has been in love with Callie for years, now he might have a chance with her after all this time. He will stop at nothing to prove to Callie that he is nothing like Zane. Plus Callie has the sweetest girl ever, which she steals Rivers heart. I love his dedication to Callie and Nora but also his patience with Callie as she doesn’t want to get her heart broken again! But wow Rivers dirty mouth chefs kisses!!!
This was a cute one, but it just didn’t hit like the first did. The MMC’s obsession with the FMC didn’t fully work for me, though I loved the baking aspect—it added such a sweet touch (literally). The co-parenting struggles were a highlight and felt really relatable. Even though this one didn’t grab me as much, I definitely plan to keep going with the series—there are still plenty of men to read about!
The first 75% of this book was an okay read. Simple and sweet. There were some issues, though. He’s been secretly in love with her for years while she’s hated him, and then suddenly, in the span of a day, she lets him watch her daughter (who has no relationship with him), moves in with him, and starts sharing his bed. There was no character development and no real story about how they fell for each other. Still, I was willing to overlook it because it was easy and lighthearted.
Then the 75% mark hit. Callie’s jerk of an ex comes back, and she actually starts falling for his words again. The fact that she even wavered and didn’t talk to River about any of it was infuriating. When she finally did see her ex again, it wasn’t even a big confrontation. It was flat and anticlimactic.
Callie was not a likable character. River was a pushover. And in the end, the ex got everything he wanted. 🤷♀️
This is a very sweet hockey romance about a hot hockey player that has been yearning for a player's ex-girlfriend for years and her reluctance to trust again. Callie's bakery is in the verge of bankruptcy and her rent just went up. River finally sees his chance to go for Callie and her sweet daughter Nora, and he's decided to shoot his shot. He offers to let her live with him, but she must sleep in his bed - just sleep, for now. Callie reluctantly agrees, thinking it's the only way to stay afloat until she figures things out, which she always does.
I like how River treats Callie. He has no problem showing her just how much she means to him and showing her, rather than telling, how she deserves to be treated. The way he interacts with Nora is absolutely adorable and so contrary to how her own dad treats her. River's teammates show him support for his actions toward Callie, recognizing that her ex is being a total tool and deserving of their disdain.
Callie was harder to like. I get being hesitant to trust, but nothing in River's actions gave off "playa" vibes and so her back and forth about him rang a bit false. It was odd that she gave other people the benefit of the doubt, and yet not River when he was so consistent. Between this, and the book being a bit too slow and long for my taste, is what brought the rating down a star.
I received a complimentary e-copy from Valentine PR. All opinions are my own.
Sadly, this was a low 3 stars for me. I enjoyed reading it, however, I didn't love it. While the MMC, River, is the greenest of all green flags, the FMC was too distrustful for me, and the third-act conflict on her half was....kind of out of character and dumb, for me.
Not only that, but I would have really liked to have known that the MMC actually appears in the author's previous series that takes place 10 years previously as a kind of antagonist, so I could have read that first. Now, I'm not going to want to see the MMC as a previous character and not a complete green flag.
Overall, the book was good. The three stars was for the MMC.
Hold Me Tight is a sweet romance full of green flags and hearts aflutterin'. It's a love story full of hope, learning to trust again, and to open one's heart to love again. 3.5
Callie's heart has been deeply wounded after being crushed by her ex partner who left for delusions of grandeur, in the process being an absent father to his young daughter. Callie remade her heart out of steel, so she certainly tries her best to ignore the skips that heart does when it sees River, the man who always looks out for Callie...and is her ex's teammate. So, in Callie's mind, cut from the same cloth.
Which couldn't be further from the truth. Because River is all green flags. Dare I say the greenest of all those flags! Even when far away he's looking out for the woman who stole his heart years ago. Not just for her, but her her daughter too. So when the opportunity strikes to give them shelter, there is no hesitation in his offer. None at all. What I love most about this romance is its openness in honest and vulnerability. Particularly from River. He is extremely forward from the onset of his interest in Callie. He doesn't play any games with her. He places all his cards on the table for her to see. And it's not just Callie he adores, he welcomes her sweet toddler daughter with open arms. And it's so sweet seeing how she comes to easily trust and adore her Rivvy. I love it when the love interest of a single parent bonds with their child(ren). It makes the romance between the protagonists all the more poignant. And it certainly achieved that here!
If there's any sort of quibble, it's ironically in the best part of River's character: his openness of heart. Early into the story he tells Callie how he feels, so she understand his heart before accepting his offer of co-habitation. It's by no means instant-love, but it results in the same way I feel towards that. Like a break in upward momentum, it derailed my engagement by having those feelings very clear. But at the same time, I totally get it. I do think it's completely in character of River, 100%. It just affected my own personal preference while reading. But it didn't affect the softness in my heart towards this book.
This book made my heart all soft and swoony!
Thank you Valentine PR for this complimentary eARC, I leave this honest review voluntarily.
_____ original immediate post-read thoughts A sweet read, I can’t say it was my favorite but it was still a nice time reading. 3.5.
Jennifer just gave us the greenest of green flag boyfriends. The yearning, the attention to detail, the unconditional amount of love, is all Jennifer needs to give me and I fell to my knees for River Thompson.
River has been kind, sorta in love with his best friend’s girl since the moment he laid eyes on her. In his defense, the first time he saw her he didn’t know she was dating his teammate. However, that does not stop the yearning for years. The yearning he has had to hide. Well, of course his ex best friend ruined their relationship and now it’s time for River to show her that people actual will show up and step up for not only her, but her daughter. Callie is not so easily swayed when it comes to River sticking his nose into her life, but River is going to show Callie he is all in and he’s actually been all in for years. With a little help from his twin and ex rival. IYKYK.
Callie is on the brink of failure every month, but she will never give up being the best mom she can be day in and day out for her daughter. She thought she had the happily ever after with her ex, but when he decided fame was more important than his daughter, she knew she needed to walk away. Now, River is standing in her store, in her house, in her daughter’s life telling her he’s not going to leave. But when you keep company like her ex, because of course they are best friends, why would she believe him. No one has stayed before so what’s so different about him? Yet, Callie knows the love that has grown between her daughter and River is something she needs to explore deeper and just maybe he’ll show her guys can be different than all the one that came before.
Every time I pick up this series, I get a surprise with all them men!! Obsessed with their girls, yearning for their girls, showing up for them every single time. Jennifer wow wow wow!! With River. Absolutely obsessed with River and Callie.
❄️Best Friend’s Ex ❄️Single Mom ❄️Obsessed Hero ❄️One Bed ❄️Hate to Love You
River’s constant concern for Callie’s well-being, his efforts for her, and making her the centre of his life from the moment he first saw her is so beautiful. The man who never gave up on his love>>> Nora is such a sweet baby, and the bond between her and River was so special—Rivvy and his sweet Nora… The book was so fluid and beautiful from the very beginning. The team, River and Callie’s relationship, River’s thoughts, and that bloody Zane.
How sad is it that I live for the rare moments when she looks at me? It’s the only time I feel like I can breathe.
“She doesn’t go to just anyone.” “Guess it’s clear I’m not just anyone, then.”
“Move in with me.” “Why would you offer that?” “Do you want to truth? Or a version that’s easier to swallow?” “The truth.” “I’ve wanted you for years, Cal- lie. Not just in passing or as a fantasy. I’ve wanted you. The real you. You walked into my world and blew apart every plan I had. And it feels like I’ve been waiting for my shot ever since.”
“I want all of you, Callie. Every messy, complicated, brilliant part.”
What she deserves is a man who will put her first. Every damn time. Every damn day.
I need her to see me. Really see me.
“You deserve better, Callie. You deserve more. And I want to be the one who gives it to you.”
“What is this to you, River?” “This is everything I’ve ever wanted. You. Nora. This life.” “I don’t believe you.” “I’m going to prove it every single day until the only thing you believe is me.”
Zane had his chance and he blew it. Now it’s my turn. And I’ll be damned if I let Callie or Nora slip through my fingers the way he did.

📖”This,” I say, pressing my forehead to hers, “is everything I’ve ever wanted. You. Nora. This life.”
📖” I’ve waited years for this. If I have to wait a little longer, I will. You’re worth it.”
Move over morally gray; this is a cinnamon roll revolution and Rider is leading it! I’ve been waiting for his book since Willow and Maverick’s and it so lived up to my (wildest) expectations!
We had a little glimpse into these two in Make me Yours. But to say I was a goner from page one might be *the* understatement. I was so invested in this family — yes, that’s what they were from the start and I won’t be convinced otherwise — that I just wanted the delicious slow burn to keep going.
Rider was a lesson in showing up. And this book was a thrilling ode to love, understanding, patience, and perseverance. I adored it, and I adored them.
Now, let’s discuss that extra, extra epilogue! MY SWEET BABY REINDEERS!!! 5 stars! 6 stars! All the stars!!! The next book in this series is going to be my ruin. My ultimate demise. My absolution.
Okay, okay. Feels good to let that out of my chest :)
HOLD ME TIGHT 💙 is Book 2 in the Chicago Railers Hockey Series! It can be read as a standalone, but trust me—you’ll want to start with Book 1 for the full emotional (and hockey-fueled) experience 🏒✨
River Thompson has been secretly in love with his best friend’s ex since the night he met her. Now Callie—single mom, bakery owner, and certified sweetheart—is struggling to stay afloat, and River finally has the chance to show her he’s the man she and her daughter, Nora, truly deserve.
Callie’s been burned before, and letting another hockey player in isn’t exactly on her to-do list. But River? He’s patient, loyal, and absolutely determined to prove that love can be steady, safe, and oh-so-sweet. 🩵 A tender story about second chances, rebuilding trust, and finding the courage to open your heart again. 🎧 Bonus: The audiobook? Absolute chef’s kiss thanks to Vivienne LaRue & Grayson Owens 👏
Things to know 1st person pov, 2 pov, duet narration, single mom, hockey romance, best friend’s ex, forced proximity, om drama
Rivieeee!!! This book delivers everything you could want in a swoon-worthy romance. River, a handsome hockey player, has been secretly head over heels for his teammate’s girl, and now fate gives him a chance—especially since his teammate couldn’t care less about their daughter or his now ex-wife.
River steps up for baby Nora and for the beautiful, captivating woman he’s been in awe of for so long. Callie is a woman who struggles with confidence, but River gently shows her what it’s like to be truly cherished—as a woman, without expectations, like a queen, and loved in the way everyone deserves.
River worships the ground Callie walks on and treats Nora as his own, making their bond heartfelt and deeply moving. This story is equal parts swoon, emotion, and family love—a perfect read for anyone who adores protective, caring heroes and emotional romance. This audiobook was everything!
🇬🇧
This is the second book I've read by this author, and I have to say I loved it! It's also the second about Chicago Raylers Hockey, and I honestly expected the main couple to appear later, but I was pleasantly surprised to read them first.
I especially liked the original plot, as the main character, River, is Zane's best friend, Callie's ex and the father of their daughter. So there's already this forbidden romance at its core. Callie is initially a little reluctant to trust River and is also easily prejudiced (even if wrongly so) because of her friendship with Zane. Continuing on with the characters, I LOVE the fact that Callie owns a bakery and I think she's a very strong character, especially since she's practically raising her daughter alone. While River is a green-flag MMC and super sub for her, right from the start, he made it clear from the start that she was THE woman he wanted from the start, and I love the fact that he waited practically years.
The only sore point about this book is that some scenes felt rushed or lacking depth, but I say that from my subjective experience, as I love slowburns (give me 600 pages of Yearnings, please, and you'll get my 5 stars).
Okay, I am officially obsessed. Hold Me Tight is everything I wanted and more for Callie and River after all that tension in book one — and Jennifer Sucevic delivered perfection.
Callie is a single mom doing her best, and River… oh River. The softest, sweetest, most golden-retriever hockey man to ever exist. He’s been harboring a secret crush on her since they first met (even when she was still with his teammate Zane), and once fate puts them under the same roof? Game. Over. For my heart.
River shows up for Callie and little Nora in every possible way — steady, patient, and so full of love. Watching him prove exactly how they deserve to be treated was beautiful and emotional. And Callie’s growth? Loved every second of her learning to trust and open her heart again.
Add in the found family vibes, the girl-squad support, and cameos from Western Wildcats characters (hello nostalgia!!), and this book just felt so warm. Like curling up with a blanket after skating on fresh ice.
And the breadcrumb hints for the next book?? I’m already feral for it.
If you love tender heroes, slow-building chemistry, and hockey romances with heart, this series continues to be a total win.
🏒❤️ Loved, loved, loved this story. Can't wait for what's next!
