Price of a Thousand Blessings #4

Price of a Thousand Blessings Volume 4

The infamous port city of Yanyeo appears vibrant and charming. Lotus-strewn canals teem with lively merchants by day, while pleasure houses and gambling dens light the night with indulgent revelry. All of it reminds Cymin of the delights he and Laithondi shared in a past life.
But deep beneath the canal waters, a curse has been released and an enemy from Cymin’s past stalks him once again. Talented mages all across the city are quietly going missing. Mutilated remains have washed ashore.
Then Cymin’s friend Xaon disappears.
Racing to find him, Cymin and Laithondi plunge into the lair of a criminal syndicate, where their secrets are in danger and their lives are at risk.

I wish Ginn Hale were more well known 1) because she deserves it she’s a phenomenal and imaginative writer who creates believable and deep-feeling fantasy worlds I love getting lost in and 2) because I want to read fan theories about what the heck is going on in these books!!! How will all these mysteries and hints come together and be resolved?!?!! I already can’t wait for the next book(s) in the series, and I’m not sure when they’ll be published, so gimme the fan theories!!!! Ugh I guess I’ll just have to anxiously await the next book instead!! And create crazy theories in my own head, of course

Too short, I need more!
And more importantly the dots I was connecting appeared to be right!!! Mazilane I'm onto you!!

But otherwise, was very happy to see more of Yinni (and wondering is Cymin is really not getting the vibes between her and Ife lmao).
Also the little "date" between Cymin and Laithondi was really cute, I loved seeing their relationship deepen. We also got more into the political intrigue of Yanyeo and some good resolution for some characters. Falhep you got what you deserved! And Kimrin is back too, really so happy about the ending.

In general I really liked the books so far: the characters, the world building, the writing - all very well done.

BUT

I'm starting to feel a little disconnected from the romance line: how many Minroas and Ondis are there gonna be? Lol I want one per person, please hahaha

Also, I just can't get out of my head and Cymin is related to Minroa but blood!!! Sure, sister's line and 200 years, but still, a little too related for my liking.
And when Laithondi got face masked (I think this spell can really complicate logic and world building in the story, so not sure I like it), and his features got closer to Minroa's - I think I threw up a little in my mouth ahahaha now they even "looked" like freaking relatives?!! Lol
Anyway, yeah, I'm very bothered by this whole thing. Also, I'm kinda starting to lose track of Laithondi's personality: his is starting to become quite similar to Cymin's and this sorts of kills the chemistry between them (imo).

To end on the good note: I'm really intrigued by Cymin's memories of Xondier (?) whispering stuff to Ondi (I hope it's to Ondi and not some other character's memories getting mixed up), I think this would spice things up quite a bit.

Oh and I like how there is at least some limit now to the resurrection, bc without it the stakes got really low: like why worry if u can just sacrifice an enemy and get our loved one back.

Volume 3 ends with Cymin being stalked by Falhep, an ominous sign of dangerous times ahead, and trust me, that's not a red herring. The sense of impending disaster coming from multiple fronts becomes much more evident. But even as foes lock Cymin in their crosshairs, he manages to go on what could be considered his first date with Laithondi. It's a date with a lighthearted twist that suddenly goes off the rails. Much of the action takes place in the underground of Yanyeo where lurk sea serpents and creatures far more terrifying. Much is revealed about the Storm Towers and their key role in the unfolding drama. The situation is growing dire. Will Cymin's lucky cricket be enough to rewrite Cymin's and Laithondi's fates? Stay tuned.

Started sluggish, but definitely has good action later. The series continues.
