These are the forty‑three missing days that rewrite the meaning of everything you thought you knew.Set during the 43 unaccounted days at the heart of The Sins of Silas, this pivotal installment returns to the Valley of Awakening, a realm that reveals not only truth, but desire.
Trapped in isolation and uncertainty, Merrick and Erabella are forced to rely on each other to survive. What begins as cautious cooperation soon unravels into something more a forbidden tension born from proximity and the unspoken ache of everything they’ve lost. As the days go on, cracks form in the armor they’ve both worn too long, and with every trial, the carefully drawn lines between them begin to blur.
Through traumatic flashbacks, fragments of their pasts begin to surface. As truths are revealed and walls crumble, the bond between them grows–not just physical, but soul-deep.
And when the final page brings us back to the moment of betrayal, now seen through Erabella’s eyes, everything makes sense. Because love and survival rarely walk the same path, and sometimes, choosing one means damning the other.
From a young age, Kylie Snow has been a daydreamer, developing stories in her head for as long as she can remember. She first dreamed of being an author at ten years old. Video games were her first love, and she grew up playing a variety of horror and fantasy titles. As an avid fantasy and dark romance reader, Kylie wanted to include both elements of those genres into her writing (Magic, spice, and heartbreaking themes? Sign me up.) She hopes her writing will stir up all the emotions of her readers and wishes to create complex, relatable, and imperfect characters. The Lies of Lena, Kylie's debut novel and book one in The Otacian Chronicles, was released on May 14th, 2024. The Sins of Silas, book two, was released on November 21st, 2024.
It feels like this book reopened a half-healed wound that’s now bleeding again after reading TSOS (which is my favourite read of 2025). 🥹
Even though these two weren’t my favorite characters before, this novella completely changed my mind. TMOM dives into those missing 43 days, filling in so many gaps and revealing layers of Merrick and Era I hadn’t appreciated before.
Kylie weaves you into an emotional journey so effortlessly — full of pain, heartbreak, and just the right amount of spice. Merrick’s protective, loyal nature and Era’s misunderstood, strong yet vulnerable personality are explored so deeply here. Watching them support each other through trauma and loss, learning to heal together, made me feel every heartbreak and triumph alongside them.
It’s not just a bridge between books; it’s a shift in perspective. The emotions, the tension, the intimacy — all beautifully balanced. I loved how much insight we got into their personal struggles, the found family dynamics, and even little moments that show the depth of their bond.
By the final page, I was both shattered and grateful. Once I was pulled back into this world, all I wanted was to reread the entire series from the start.😭
TMOM isn’t just a novella — it’s a healing journey, a window into love and a perfect addition to the Otacian Chronicles.
KYLIE, OMG!!!! I was worried about this one but phew... that ending blew me away.
READ THIS AFTER book 1 & book 2!!!
Going back and seeing Merrick and Era's POV's while living through their traumas?? I wasn't prepared. Learning all this new information has me so emotional and once again ITCHING for more. The fact that I must wait over a year for this will kill me. I'll be waiting "patiently" 😭😭
Back to one of my FAVORITE fantasy worlds 🖤✨️ I was always interested in Merrick throughout the series, but after reading this book, I freaking love him so much. Plus, he's got it going on 🥵🥵 His back story was much needed to really get all of him. His magic is a gift, but a heavy burden as well. I can't imagine the depth in which he feels all the people around him. My heart hurts for him and everything he's overcome. I really enjoyed Era's back story. It helped me understand her more. Although she was being hypocritical... but I forgive her. She was hurt, and trauma is hard to navigate. I'm furious that she'll be used as a pawn. She had a rough go at life and deserves to be loved and have a happy ending. I wholeheartedly believe Merrick will be that for her. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next release!
Learning more about Merrick and hearing his story just made me that much more enchanted by him 🙂↕️💕 ..him and all 7 of his barbells🤭🤪
Erabella, girl you be pissin me off fr 😭 going through her past I understand why she is the way she is but she was stubborn at times I’m like plsssssss 😅
The ending!!! Screaming, I am so glad we continued from Sins of Silas and after that I can not wait for the next book 😲🙂↕️
“These are the forty-three missing days that rewrite the meaning of everything you thought you knew.”
I really wanted to hold my grudge against Era, but Kylie just wouldn't let me. ***Insert audible groan***
Once again, this book is a knockout. If you haven't started The Otacian Chronicles, what are you even doing? This series is incredibly good, and I've been having withdrawals since The Sins of Silas (TSOS).
This book is 2.5 in the series and follows Era and Merrick, giving us their perspective on the events that transpired when the group was separated. Now, I don't want to give any spoilers but this book is a must read to understand more of the story.
Let me be clear: I am fiercely loyal to my original love interests, and by the end of TSOS, I was ready to host an anti-Era fan club. I mean, I wouldn't even say her name because I was so upset. But this book changed my mind. You get to see Era in a new light. While she definitely makes you want to shake her, you simultaneously gain a deep understanding of her motivations.
I've always loved Merrick, but getting the backstory on both of these characters was both heartbreaking and beautiful. I just wanted to give Merrick a huge hug. He didn't deserve what he went through, stuck in that unbelievably impossible position between the woman he loves and the friends he's sworn to protect.
I can't wait to own this beauty on my shelf and will be counting down the days until the next installment drops next year.
To all my Romantasy friends: If you only take one series recommendation from me, let it be this one. This series is THE REASON I started reading fantasy in the first place, and Kylie is an INCREDIBLE author. She creates beautiful, intricate worlds and truly heart-wrenching stories. Stop making excuses, pick it up now, and then come talk to me about it so I can relive it through you!
#Dark Romantasy #One Bed #Forced Proximity #Trauma #Pierced MMC #Cheating (Don't hold this trope against the book)
Review: Memories of Merrick completely broke me in the best way. I’m loving this series so much and this novella just reminded me why. Kylie’s writing is beautiful and she knows exactly how to pull every emotion out of you. I cried at least five times while reading this and honestly, I’m not even sorry. 😭🩷
I feel so connected to these characters. They’ve grown so much and watching them try to heal from their trauma is just amazing. 🥹
There’s even a trope in this series that I normally can’t stand but somehow, Kylie makes it work perfectly.
This series has such a special place in my heart. Memories of Merrick might be a novella but it hit me just as hard as the full books. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
- Romantasy - Novella - Past vs now - Trauma & healing - Forbidden love - Dual POV - Magic - Mystery - Spice - Pierced MMC - Forced proximity - Cheating - Check TWs
(I got gifted this e-ARC by Kylie Snow for free and leave this honest review voluntarily.)
4.5☆ I missed these characters and this world so much! merrick - my heart 😩 era - I knew there was more to her. I loved how this answered some questions after book two’s ending but also made me feel more pain…how am I supposed to wait until 2027?!
The Memories of Merrick (The Otacian Chronicles, 2.5) by Kylie Snow
-novella -forced proximity -trauma healing -one bed -forbidden love -dual POV
How do I put into words how much I love this series. I’ve become so deeply invested into all of these characters stories that my emotions are all over the place. If you thought you loved Merrick before, you’ll love him even more in this.
Merrick and Era’s story was exactly what I expected and more. Not only are we getting their POV from the Valley of Awakening, but we’re diving into their backstory and getting more details from the main plot. Which has me excited and scared for book 3 and also wanting to go back and do a full reread of the series.
I love Kylie Snow’s writing style in that she captures the emotion of a moment through both the action and the deep introspection of a character, making you feel like the words are coming to life. And pair that with the trauma and hardships of the Otacian Chronicles and you have yourself the best emotionally damaging series.
There’s so much more I want to say about this book, but I’m keeping this close to my chest until y’all have experienced it.
4.5 ⭐️…If you’re looking to be put through the emotional ringer, just read Kylie’s work. The pain, the heartbreak, the resilience, the LOVE…
TMOM is book 2.5 in the Otacian chronicles and it follows those missing 43 days…iykyk. And BOY, did so much happen all while learning so much more about Merrick and Era. I’ve always adored Merrick, but oh my gosh did my heart break for Era. I have such a newfound respect and love for this misunderstood blonde bombshell.
Without giving too much away, I have to say the both Merrick and Era’s stories are traumatizing. They’ve each endured so much pain, rejection, loss, and the way they help each other through that is so beautifully captured. This was so much more than just a romance, this was absolutely a healing journey for these two characters and I LOVED it.
All in all, this was definitely a perfect novella and addition to the Otacian Chronicles. One of the things I adore about this series is my love for the found family vibes and how much I pine for every character. I would not be mad at novellas for allllll of the other members of this crew. Especially Roland, just sayin…
Loved this. It hurt. Like a lot. But I loved it. Thank you Kylie for trusting me with your work, and I cannot WAIT for book 3.
AHHHHHH I love this so so so much. I’ve been invested in Era and Merrick since the beginning. I loved reading about their 43 days together and them finally admitting their feelings. Both their stories are heartbreaking but the love they have for each other could rival Lena and Silas. I believe they’re soul ties but haven’t admitted it to themselves yet. Also I take back everything I said about Era in my review of Sins of Silas I forgive her and realized before that she was probably being brainwashed (or tracked) by Ulric which she was so Era baby I’m so sorry and I can’t wait to see what happens with you.
ALSO MERRICK IS ALIVE AND IN OQUERENE?!?! AHHHHHH IM SO HAPPY!!! I need them to be reunited as fast as possible so they can be together.
I need the next book right fucking now I love this world these characters and this story honestly god tier series for me it has my whole heart 💕✨🥲

This book. THIS BOOK! The Memories of Merrick is the most recent installment in the Otacian Chronicles, and I swear it spoke straight to my soul. The characters are so raw, so beautiful, and so heartbreakingly real. We finally have answers, but of course even more questions—and I cannot wait to learn more.
Not only was this book powerful beyond words, but the spice?? Oh my god. GLORIOUS.
Merrick, my sweet boy. Feeling everyone else’s emotions so keenly but unable to express his own—it gutted me, because I understood him on such a personal level. And Era… I’m not going to lie, I hated her in book one. By book two, I started to warm up. But here? In this book? She’s someone I see myself in. Watching her journey, her doubts, her growth—it hit me hard.
Both Merrick and Era struggle with not feeling worthy, with guilt they shouldn’t carry, with battles both inside and out. And Kylie captured it all so beautifully. This book is EVERYTHING.
Also—being mentioned in the acknowledgments??😭 I have no words. What an absolute honor.
This series just keeps proving it deserves to be screamed about from the rooftops. Infinity stars forever.
I’m still not sure this book was necessary, and I’ve never been the biggest fan of these characters, but I was curious enough to see what happened during those 43 days 🤔🤷🏼♀️
It didn’t change how I feel in any big way, but it did fill in some gaps. I did skim through some parts, mostly because I had just read TSOS the day before, and some moments felt familiar. THEY WERE THE SAME just through ERA’s POV, it should have been much shorter or in TSOS 🫠
Despite all my doubts, this book did what this series always does, IT PULLED ME IN. It was dark, suffocating at times, and impossible to put down. AND THE END??? Sorry, I need book 3 RIGHT NOW!! I finished it in one day, despite all my doubts, which feels ironic considering how unsure I still am about it 💔🖤
Long hair and piercings? Appreciate the thought, but thank you, NO.
Thank you Kylie for the gifted arc 🖤 let me start by saying that this is one of my GOD TIER series. Being back in this world was amazing, even if it was only for 250-ish pages. This has to hold me over until the book 3 release, but I might actually crash out waiting. The end of book 2 left me with so many questions and intense feelings of betrayal. This book answered so many of those questions, but now I have a million more. This review is going to be short bc I don’t wanna spoil anything if you haven’t read book 2, but Merrick and Era forever 🖤
Please allow me 3-5 business days to recover __________________________________________
Okay. Holy shit. The fact that miss Kylie Snow can pack so much into a 300 PAGE NOVELLA is absolutely insane!! This book put me through the absolute fucking ringer and… I fear I loved every second of it!
An absolute emotional masterpiece. We are not only getting devastated left and right, but we’re also getting some of the most DELECTABLE spice. It was like emotional whiplash the whole time and I could tell if I wanted to cry or… ya know.
I thought I loved Merrick before, but god damn this book made me love and understand him on a whole ‘nother level. Not to mention Era’s character development, and getting a peek into what’s she’s been through was just gut wrenching perfection.
Even though it’s a novella it’s VERY important to the plot so you have to read it!! And the revelations we get at the end literally had me staring at the wall with my jaw hanging open cause everything I thought I knew….
‘Forever damaged. Forever broken, just like she had been.’
Also a special hype shoutout because seeing my bestie Libby (@bookmarkedbylibby) in the acknowledgements was the COOLEST thing ever and I love her so much!
this was everything I didn’t know my heart needed.
merrick my baby. my baby . I fell in love with him the minute he came into the series and was so heartbroken at the end of sins of Silas. IYKYK. 😭
I loved how we got to see exactly what happened during those 43 days & it was more than I anticipated. And let me tell you I felt every single emotion. One chapter I’m having the time of my life, the next I’d be sobbing. You had been warned 👏🥰
I honestly didn’t think there would be a time I would forgive era for what happened— but that’s what happens when you only get one side of a story . so I absolutely needed this — because she did win me over.
“You, it’ll always be you.” 🥹🥹
merrick and eras backstories are both heartbreaking in their own way. I cried more times than I would like to admit ( YES IN A NOVELLA ) 🤣 I loved how they opened up to eachother and were just there when they needed it.
“You were just a child.”
The spice, ayeeeee Kylie pat yourself on the back for these ones ✨😂 the tension was perfection and once they finally got to that “fuck it” moment — my godddddddd. I was giggling & blushing FOR era.
“Eyes on me princess” 🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️🧎♀️
The ending was… just as bad as the first time reading it for my heart but when I say I screamed when I found out I SCREAMED 🤭🤭🤭🤭
I cannot wait to see what happens next in this world. It was so nice to be back . ♾️♾️♾️♾️
… did we expect anything less than 5 stars? Absolutely not. I shall return from the hole I’m going to crawl in for a bit to process this entire book and the acknowledgements bc wdym
Ok I’m back.. but am I better? No. This series consumes me. I am infected and I never want to be cured 😭
KYLIE YOU’VE DONE IT AGAIN!!! This novella is everything. It is darker than the previous two books so pls take care of yourself as you’re reading. It is also PERTINENT to the plot, so you cannot skip!
You are taken through the 43 days of Merrick and Era being in The Valley during the second book.. and my GODDDD, do you learn so much about them and their past. I have a newfound respect for Era. Merrick???? PROTECT THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS, are you kidding me. Him and how he cares for Era is perfection. I heavily relate to him with being a MASSIVE empath myself, I can’t imagine actually being able to physically feel what others are feeling (but the parts during spicy time? yeeeeaaahhh 🙂↕️).
Last but not least, the acknowledgments. I’m already crying finishing the book and then Kylie gives us a little insight on the inspiration for Era and Merrick’s past. AND THEN, I’m crying from that… and I see MY NAME?! My name. In my favorite author’s book. That will be published. I simply have no words... I am so so grateful for these books 🫶🏼
The Memories of Merrick by Kylie Snow was such an emotional and heartfelt read. Earlier this year, I read The Lies of Lena and The Sins of Silas, and I absolutely fell in love with this series. I was beyond excited to dive back into the world Kylie created.
Publication Date: October 21, 2025
Series Order: Book 1: The Lies of Lena Book 2: The Sins of Silas Book 2.5 The Memories of Merrick
The Memories of Merrick fills in the 43 missing days in the Valley of Awakening from The Sins of Silas. It gives us a deeper look into both Merrick and Erabella’s pasts, their pain, and the healing that follows.
What to expect: -Dual POV -Forced proximity -Healing and trauma -Forbidden love -Betrayal
“You are everything I’ve ever wanted.” A dream I’d kept to myself from wishing for, because I never thought it would be possible that someone would hold my soul with care. That someone wouldn’t be repulsed by it.”
What a journey this was! The Memories of Merrick had me in tears and feeling every single emotion. My heart just ached for Merrick and Erabella.
Kylie’s writing is addictive, deeply emotional and filled with so much depth. The connection between Erabella and Merrick is undeniable and beautifully written.
Thank you so much Kylie for the eARC, it was an absolute privilege getting to read this beautiful story in advance. I am counting down the days until The Secrets of Enid releases.
All I’m saying is once Kylie gets trad published and some new covers, it’s over for you hoes. This novella was excellent. I inhale her books like a I’m reading a thriller. I loved learning more about Merrick and Erabella and absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
5 stars plus a MILLION MORE! Absolutely AMAZING! I went from not liking Era to seeing her! Merrick's and Era's story is so beautiful, I resonate with it on such a deep level.
Thank you Kylie for sharing The Otacian Chronicles with us and allowing me to continue on the journey as an advanced reader! I'm ready for book 3!!!!!
Coming from someone who enjoyed the first two books (with all their faults) and how adorable the author is on her instagram, this book just seemed unnecessary. Personally I’m just not a fan of novellas to begin with. I dislike when authors stretch out a story longer than necessary. I would have preferred the author delivered us the next book in the series rather than make the readers wait.
That being said the above is not why I rated this a ⭐️ ⭐️, just something I felt needed to be stated. I think a two star rating is truly an honest review. Is the book bad, no. But would it fall into a top tier book that someone would gladly read over and over again? Also a no. Therefore all the ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ just isn’t logical. I can’t give this book that many stars just because I’m rooting for this author’s success (which I am). 🤷🏻♀️
Thoughts: - I understand the authors need to redeem Era in the eyes of readers. And hey why not make this a little plot twist while we’re at it and make Era a victim too. Even after reading this book, i still do not like her as a character. The book did not make me empathize with her just because we got more insight into her past. I do not connect with characters who wallow in self pity and this is really all that Era done (past and present). Even though she acknowledges she is a hypocrite she doesn’t do anything about it sooner and has the audacity to slap Lena for doing the same thing. Oh and the plot twist just did not land for me. It felt like another “poor me” box to check for Era. - I’m also not sold on Merricks relationship with Era. It feels forced and not as organic as the other relationships in this book. We only got small glimpses of their relationship in the second book, but here we have insta love. Too much too fast and zero natural relationship growth. - I really loved the first book in this series, the second book felt a little all over the place about midway through, and now this book seems to have continued this trend where there are too many ideas that aren’t cleanly executed on page. I’m really hoping book 4 will redeem the series and get it back to the “magical storytelling” that made me love first book. - Maybe because the relationship felt too forced in this book, Merrick and Eras interactions and dialogue between one another just felt cringy and juvenile. I had a really hard time getting past this. My eye hurt from rolling by the end. These side characters were better off left on the side. We didn’t really need 300 pages of their back story.
Overall, this book just didn’t feel necessary to the actual story and the author’s time would have been better spent on delivering the next book for her readers.
Please don’t come at me with pitch forks 🙈.

The Memories of Merrick, 2.5 installment of the Otacian Chronicles, is such a beautiful read! In reference to The Sins of Silas, it explores the forty-three unaccounted days for Merrick and Erabella.
Trapped in isolation, they rely on one another for survival. In the Valley of Awakening, they are forced into one another’s proximity-both of their defenses crumble, revealing wounds that have shaped the people they’ve become.
This book dived head first into their trauma, the tension and reluctant connection between the two characters. The romantic tension between the two from before is thoroughly explored more in this novella.
It was heartbreaking getting a glimpse into Erabella's childhood abuse and Merrick's trauma. It was especially heartbreaking how Merrick was discarded after they returned by Erabella. And the ending? Whewwww. Definitely unexpected. I can't wait for the next book in the series - releasing in 2027!
My babies 🥹 Talk about some of the most emotional driven characters who love just as hard and they yearn to be loved! I loved watching the story of these two unfold and learning their tragic back stories.
Not going to lie I was a certified Era hater before going into this book and this book definitely changed my mind on her and everything shes been through. Is she perfect? No. But that’s what makes her feel real and relatable and I found myself relating to her in some aspects and feeling for her.
Mer I am utterly obsessed with you and he’s slowly becoming one of my fav characters. The man who feels everything 🥺 sweet baby I will never hate you.
This made me so excited to be back in this world and can’t wait for the next book!
I love when a novella delivers a full 5 star experience, and this one absolutely did! I devoured Memories of Merrick from start to finish. The history you get about Merrick and Erabella individually was so heart wrenching, it made me fall for them even more. My jaw was on the floor by the end, and now I’m desperate to see how everything unfolds in the next one. Seriously, don’t sit on this series, it’s too good to miss!
