The Birch Valley #2

Methods of Persuasion

Rate this book
Falling into my patient's bed (again) was a terrible decision.

But falling in love with him? That wasn't even a choice.

All I wanted was one selfish, delicious night of unattainable freedom. So I gave in to an unfamiliar desire and had a steamy, unforgettable one night stand with an older man.

I thought that would be it. But then I move halfway across the province for a job to try and find peace–and instead, unexpectedly find myself face to face once more with that same man who’d rocked my world. And it’s worse. I’m his new physio.

That irresistible, magnetic pull between us? It’s still there, but stronger. And even though we try, soon we can’t keep our hands off each other.

But it’s more than just sex. There’s some kind of instant spark between us. We play off each other without even trying. He makes me laugh, pushes me out of my comfort zone, and brings a balance to my life that I hadn’t thought was possible.

Before I know it, I’m questioning where simple lust and friendship ends and the unthinkable–love–begins.

Methods of Persuasion is a cosy and spicy age gap romcom set in beautiful Alberta, Canada with a guaranteed HEA.

I received a review copy and these are my thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book. Lyla and Arthur spent one incredible night together and never in a million years, could they have imagine that they’d once again meet, but this time as client (him) and physiotherapist (her). They tried to keep what had happened between them in the past but quickly realised that it would be impossible. The physical attraction was still there, as were the memories of the night they shared.

Lyla tried very hard to keep things professional but her eccentric client and eager lover, proved it would not be easy. Though he never pushed Lyla into anything she didn’t want, she couldn’t deny that she felt safe and cared for when she was with Arthur.

I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. It started off both professional and casual - they were playful and covered any awkwardness with humour and banter - Arthur was “a theatre geek” after all. But as their working relationship progressed and Arthur became physically stronger (he had a physical disability that impaired his mobility), so did their emotional bond and what started off as a very physical relationship on the side, developed into a deep friendship and safe space for them to be themselves - flaws, fears and all.

Lyla suffered from anxiety and was a people pleaser. Slowly, Arthur created and gave her the space for her to face her issues and seek the help she needed, while always holding a non-judgmental and caring space for her in his embrace.

I really liked Arthur’s relationship with his son, Blake and his best friend, Kara. They were also welcoming of Lyla. The small town setting was cosy and charming - and I think all the tea they drank helped keep things cosy too 😅

The MCs had incredible chemistry and the spice was hot.

They had a considerable age gap and you mostly noticed it in the quirky way Arthur talked. Other than that, Arthur and Lyla were a perfect pair and I was happy they didn’t go back and forth, trying to decide if they should be together or not. They came together in a very organic way.

This was my first book by the authors but won’t be the last!

I was psyched when I realised this story followed Arthur (Blake's dad from book one) as he was so sweet and I knew there was more to his story. And I was right!

I liked Arthur and Lyla - they have good chemistry and an amazing connection.

What I love most about Sunny's books is that the characters are purely nice people. There's no ostentatious drama or third act breakups. Their issues are real and relatable - the quiet struggles many people can relate to. In this case Arthur's physical health and for Lyla her anxiety. It's really refreshing.

And I loved how they championed and supported each other. They each had a lot to learn from each other. And what's better than a partner that makes you better yourself.

Methods of Persuasion is the perfect mix of sweet and steamy.

Thanks to Sunny for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cozy, cute, emotional, spicy age-gap romance

4⭐️ 2-2.5🌶️ ARC REVIEW: 📖 METHODS OF PERSUASION 📖 by Sunny del Williams ✨ This is book 2 of the Birch Valley series set in a small town in Alberta, Canada. It’s dual POV and is a spicy, cozy, warm hug of an unexpected romance. Lyla & Arthur have great chemistry and I adored their story. Despite their age gap, Lyla seemed to be an old-soul, and the two of them understood each other and saw the real versions of themselves. While Arthur is so sweet, he has a surprisingly filthy mouth (‘good girl’, ‘use your words’). 😮‍💨🫠🥵👏🏻🤭🤌🏻 The steamy moments are perfectly balanced with emotion, humor and heart. I also loved how once again Sunny was thoughtful and intentional about mental health representation. ❤️‍🩹

Lyla Pedersen just left home for the first time to accept a 6-month job as a physiotherapist several hours away. She is the oldest of 3 and has taken care of her siblings for the last 12 years since her mom died of cancer and her dad fell apart. Lyla had to step into a mother’s role so young. Arthur Dahl is a widow and single dad since his wife died over 10 years ago. He’s healing after a car accident broke his hip, and Lyla is his new physiotherapist. The only problem is, they met one night a few months ago and had a one-night stand. Oops. 🙊 Can they keep professional boundaries in place? They try. For a hot minute. 🤣 But the magnetic pull between them is strong. They tease each other, dance, call each other funny nicknames. They both see each other’s broken pieces and love them anyway.

When Lyla loses her rental, Arthur offers her a temporary place to stay. What could go wrong? 🤫 Their attempt at being just patient and therapist is cute, sweet, and charming. She didn’t expect to fall in love. Lyla brings Arthur out of his shell of not wanting to exercise or try new things to help manage his pain. Arthur in turn recognizes that Lyla needs to stay in control to have order in her life, and he helps her learn that things can still work out even if they don’t go according to her plan. I loved seeing them laugh together and challenge each other. There’s a spark, yes, but they also have a genuine emotional connection. They push each other out of their comfort zones, and balance each other. Arthur really sees Lyla, and helps her with new ways to cope with her anxiety. 🫶🏻

❤️ She’s a control freak but he likes to be in charge in the bedroom. 🛌 🫡
❤️ get on your knees🧎‍♂️
❤️ Praise, light degradation, daddy k!nk
❤️ He buys books by her favorite author from the town bookstore for her
❤️ He tells her she can tap out if she needs to - we love a consent king 🤴. 👏🏻👏🏻
❤️Always telling her ‘don’t worry, we’ll sort out everything.’
❤️Always asking her ‘how can I help?’

Favorite quotes:
“You don't need to do that.”
“Do what?”
“That. Change yourself to try and appeal to me.”
'I-“
“Yes, you were. And, for the record, you appeal to me exactly as you are.”

I lay awake, watching her. Memorizing her.

“I remember everything about you. I can't seem to stop it from happening. You're like a bright shaft of sunlight in a dim room. I can't look away.”

“Sounds perfect. You're a lifesaver.”
But I think the opposite was true. It was her who had been the lifesaver-and it was me who'd been saved.

Maybe it was the illusion that I was still whole. But I'd just realized that it was none of those things. It was that Lyla had been showing me, from the very beginning, that it didn't matter that I wasn't.

“But you get it. You're just...in my corner.”
“I'll always be in your corner.”

When I tell you guys that this author right here got me into reading cozy & spicy romcom, I mean she got me hooked into it. This is her second published book and there’s hints of more to come!

I never took myself for a straight up sweet and spicy romcom girlie, but my head has been turned and I am not looking back.

Methods of Persuasion is the second installment in her Birch Valley Series, this time following Lyla and Arthur on their romantic (and slightly spicy!) journey into their HEA. After sharing an unforgettable night, they both go their separate ways…until Lyla shows up at Arthur’s door as his physiotherapist.

Neither one thought they’d see the other again, and once their paths cross, it’s pretty inevitable when their forbidden romance starts blooming from the seed planted way back when– and even trying their best to stay professional, their attraction and memories pull them back together like magnets. It only gets more prevalent when Arthur’s home becomes Lyla’s safe space after her housing scam fell through.

Their banter and chemistry goes far beyond lust. The relationship begins and grows organically, without drama, and I was rooting for them from the get-go. I enjoy romances that feel natural, that aren’t surface-level, and that mean something to the characters. All in, as the saying goes.

I am a big advocate for healthy mental health representation, so I was very happy with how Lyla’s anxiety was portrayed with care and tact, especially woven into the romantic relationship. Arthur’s non-judgmental, steady, and genuine support as a consistent response makes me believe in love again.

The disability representation was also done really well here – it doesn’t define Arthur’s character, and you can really get a feel for how frustrating it is when healing physical injuries isn’t linear. I was tickled at Arthur’s theatre-geek charm and really enjoyed watching him come out of his shell as their friendship and romance blossomed.

There’s also a cameo from Arthur’s son Blake and his best friend Kara (*ahem* “best friends”) which made me smile.

I’m looking forward to more of the series coming out soon!

Methods of Persuasion surprised me in the best way. What started as a forbidden, steamy one night stand quickly turned into an unconventionally cute, fast paced, and ridiculously fun read that I flew through. The chemistry between Arthur and Lyla crackles from page one. Their banter is sharp, the attraction is magnetic, and the spice is exactly where it needs to be.

I loved watching Lyla gently but firmly break through Arthur’s stubborn walls as she helps him heal, even when he fights it every step of the way. At the same time, Arthur sees Lyla so clearly, reminding her of her worth and teaching her how to finally take care of herself. Their dynamic felt natural, balanced, and deeply satisfying.

What truly made this story stand out for me was how thoughtfully it explored heavier themes like loss, grief, mental health, and the importance of therapy and counseling. It added so much heart and depth to an already addictive romance.

And then there was Alberta. Being taken back to my first province to call home hit me right in the feels. The mentions of Edmonton and Camrose, and the simple magic of watching the Northern Lights from a porch or window, filled me with pure nostalgia. Cozy, spicy, emotional, and comforting, this one wrapped around my heart when I least expected it.

Omg, this story was absolutely fantastic. Lyla and Arthur couldn’t be more opposite if you tried, yet somehow they were perfect for each other. And thank you, Sunny, for introducing us to an MMC who is so refreshingly different and quirky that you can’t help but fall head over heels for him.
One of the things I love most when reading is when characters feel real and relatable. Don’t get me wrong—I love my mafia bosses and over-the-top hockey players—but there’s just something about grounded, authentic characters that hits differently. Sunny did an amazing job with Arthur, from the way she portrayed his struggles with his disability to his beautifully quirky, eccentric personality. He was absolute perfection.
I also really appreciated how Lyla’s anxiety disorder was handled. As someone who deals with anxiety and panic attacks myself, I was able to connect with her in a way I haven’t with many other characters, and Sunny captured that experience so thoughtfully and realistically.
This story was truly beautiful, full of warmth, coziness, and love. I highly recommend picking it up so you can feel all of that magic for yourself.

This was such a cute read! I’m not usually one for age gaps (other than a 600 year old and a 20-something year old lol) but this was so fun!

Arthur and Lyla are very different from each other in the biggest ways and similar in the smaller ways that matter most. I loved how eccentric Arthur was and how I could picture the wild things he said like it was a movie playing in my brain. His oddities were funny and the way he teased everyone made me smile.

I related to Lyla more than I relate to most other fmcs. Her anxiety was extremely similar to mine. I really appreciated how her journey was written; she wanted to try absolutely everything she could before actually asking for help from professionals. I did the same thing for many years. The way she handled panic attacks was also very similar to how I do. It was refreshing to read about such a relatable character and have them not only be appreciated, but wanted so fiercely and accepted, mental health struggles and all.

I absolutely loved this story and would recommend it to anyone who loves to read small-town romances and about two flawed human beings finding each other and accepting one another completely.

I received this as an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! As a small town Alberta girl myself, I really loved the story taking place in a world that I know. I am not typically a fan of age gap romances, so I was a little bit hesitant with that trope - but it was done in such a sweet way and did not feel cringy in the slightest. In the very beginning of the story there is a scene where Lyla is getting Arthur to dance to help with his rehab, and it was so charming. Arthur and Lyla have great chemistry right from the start.

While this is obviously a romance (and Arthur and Lyla are great), I thought that the sibling relationship between Haley and Lyla was a bit of a show stealer. I loved how protective Lyla was of Haley and how she was there to support her, no questions asked. This relationship added so much depth to the story, and both of the characters.

Overall I would absolutely recommend this book. The anxiety / panic attack rep, the disability rep, the found family, sibling, and of course romance, makes it such a great story.

This book was like a warm, cozy blanket. I read a range of different genres and books with a huge difference in tropes so sometimes, I really need a feel-good story and this totally delivered.

Arthur is a green flag man, proceed full speed ahead with him. Not everyone can be perfect though. Arthur has struggled with is disability for years now and he is too stubborn to make the changes necessary to make it better. Instead, he seems to let his disability control and limit him.

Lyla is looking for a change in her life, and this job is the next step in that journey. She just needs to excel the next 6 months to put her in a good position. Her whole life changes when her new patient is a very familiar face!

"Thank you Sunny for the ARC. This is my honest review.

This was the cutest book I've read in a while. I read and loved book 1 so I was so excited to see the ARCs for book 2 on my feed and immediately dived in! Here's what I loved:

- Arthur might be one of the funnest MMC's I've ever read. He was so dynamic, fun, and pushed Lyla to get out of her comfort zone and to seek help for her anxiety. I also did NOT expect him to have the mouth he did...holy Jesus does that man have a dirty mouth!

- Likewise, Lyla pushing Arthur out of his comfort zone and helping him. I absolutely loved seeing the two of them together

- The dynamic between the two MC's was so fun, raw, and honest

- HE BUYS HER BOOKS!!!

I did get a little bit of whiplash reading this book and wish there was a bit...more. More spice, more description, and a bit less of Arthur being so...quirky? I'm not sure if that's the right word but I truly did enjoy this.

This was such a cozy, feel good read. It's perfect for a snow day or rainy day cuddled up under the blankets!

This was such a heartwarming story. We follow Lyla and Arthur, who share one unforgettable night together assuming they would never see one another again, only to be reunited when Lyla shows up at her new job and discovers Arthur is her new client. Determined to keep things professional, Lyla realizes that pretending nothing happened is easier said than done. As their relationship evolves they go from playful banter and undeniable attraction to something much deeper.

Arthur is such a green flag, and an old soul to the core, I swear he sounded like an 80 year old a few times! He was so caring, and patient, and an amazing dad and pseudo dad. I loved how Lyla was able to push him outside of his comfort zone and helped him get back to the things he loved. Lyla is so relatable especially to the oldest daughters out there. She’s a people-pleaser to her core, and struggles with anxiety but her determination is inspiring and her dedication to her sister was so sweet. I really loved the low drama and angst, and instead the focus on the gentle ways they show up for each other and the way they help one another grow. If you love a sweet and cozy read this is the book for you!

So, it took me a bit to realise just who I was dealing with…
The MMC is Arthur, and the MFC is Lyla, a physical therapist hired by his son, Blake to help him….
Now, Blake is the MMC from ‘Read Between The Lines’, and the timelines appear to be concurrent.

The characters…
Lyla has anxiety and is a people pleaser, and Arthur gives her a safe place to be herself.
Arthur’s a quirky member of the theatre, and with a significant age gap, there’s a little angst. Especially after realising that they’d previously had a hot night together.

Eccentric, with quirky humour, and a significant age gap… Thankfully, no major drama about that. It was just a sweet growth of their relationship.
Now, as a reader, I did struggle at times with their speech. At times, I did cringe, and the ‘Daddy’ was just weird to me…

Oh well, still a fun read.

I did not expect the spice and I was not disappointed!! Arthur and Lyla had a one night stand and they thought they'd never see each other again.

Present day, Arthur cannot seem to keep on any physiotherapist, he's stubborn and set in his ways. Blake, his son has hired someone new in hopes this will get his dad moving again.

Lyla, after having lost her mom, had to grow up fast. She took care of her siblings like any parental figure as her dad was too busy working away from home. She took a chance to finally get out of Edmonton and live on her own.

Big surprise for them both when Lyla is introduced to Blake's dad...they know each other intimately. Follow Arthur and Lyla as they navigate this tricky situation, how long can they hold off their attraction to one another? The spice is spicing in this book, I LOVE Arthur's and Lylas dynamic. I loved watching their relationship unfold!

Methods of Persuasion is a cozy, charming, and surprisingly spicy read! I especially appreciated how thoughtfully mental health was represented.

Watching Lyla and Arthur’s relationship unfold was such a joy. Their dynamic feels authentic, their chemistry is electric, and the tension between them is chef’s kiss. The age gap, workplace setting, and slow-burn romance add extra layers, while the steamy scenes are perfectly balanced with heartfelt, emotional moments.

I loved seeing how Arthur and Lyla push each other, make each other laugh, and challenge one another in ways that feel completely real. It’s more than just lust—there’s a genuine spark and emotional connection that makes the romance truly satisfying.

This is a perfect read for fans of cozy, spicy age-gap romances with a guaranteed HEA.

I really enjoyed this book. Lyla and Arthur shared one unforgettable night, never expecting to meet again, this time as physiotherapist and client. Despite trying to stay professional, their lingering attraction and memories made distance impossible.
Their dynamic was playful and full of humour, with Arthur’s theatre-geek charm easing the awkwardness. As Arthur grew physically stronger, their connection deepened from casual and physical into a meaningful friendship and emotional safe space.
Lyla’s anxiety was portrayed with care, and Arthur’s steady, non-judgmental support felt genuinely comforting. The small-town setting added warmth, while Arthur’s relationships with his son, Blake, and best friend, Kara, enriched the story.
The chemistry was undeniable, and the romance developed organically, without unnecessary drama. A heartfelt, cosy, and very engaging read with great spice.

This book was so cozy, sweet and fun. Also surprisingly spicy. I never got bored or thought that it dragged. Arthur and Lyla are such likable characters and I never got tired of reading their story. It was fresh and unique with interesting characters. I loved their instant attraction. The banter was top notch. Loved the theatre references. The mental health rep was great to see. I didn't even mind the age gap which was pretty significant. It was handled very well and you could see why they fell for each other. They had so much chemistry but their personalities just fit together. I just loved everything about this book. The ending felt a little rushed but it was still sweet. I got this book through a SYKD event and I'm so glad. Totally a hidden gem. This is my first time reading this author and I was not disappointed. This is a new favorite! Will definitely re-read.

Methods of Persuasion is book 2 in the Birch Valley series.
Who knew that a one-night stand would turn into a client and physio relationship months later. Can they keep their relationship professional when there is clearly chemistry between them? No, no, they cannot. I loved how Arthur and Lydia support each other through their personal struggles. His being mostly physical and her anxiety and people-pleasing ways. I found the banter to be fun, including their nicknames. There are spicy scenes and they are places in a way that helps the story flow not just anywhere random. That is something I enjoy in the books I am reading. If you are looking for a cozy, age gap, forced proximity kind of story you should add Methods of Persuasion to your TBR.

In this heartwarming story our FMC is a physiotherapist, and her newest job is taking her to a very small town. Her client, our MMC, is a former drama teacher, but was in a car accident and shattered his hip. Oh and he is the older man she had a ONS with a few months ago - with a no names or numbers kinda of vibe. She is determined to help bring him out of his funk and find his happy place again, but it really isn't easy when she suffers from such extreme anxiety. Trying to keep everyone in her life happy and together - she constantly neglects herself, but he is there to help pick up the pieces.

This was such a cute story to read. I absolutely adored Lyla and Arthur. They had perfect chemistry. You could tell that Arthur was much older than her but Lyla was also an old soul at heart even though she is young.

I loved how Lyla and Arthur supported each other throughout the book. They both learned a lot from each other. Arthur taught Lyla to live a little and different methods of coping with her anxiety and Lyla helped Arthur to heal from his injury with less pain.

This was the perfect sweet and cozy read with a little spice. Thank you Sunny for the ARC. All thoughts are my own.

In this duel POV age gap story, we follow Lyla and Arthur, who had a ONS and are now reconnecting when Lyla comes to Birch Valley to be his therapist. After getting scammed out of a place to live, Lyla finds herself living with Arthur, and that’s where their relationship begins.
I absolutely loved the writing and the banter. I was laughing and crying with the characters, and celebrating their wins in life. The spice was spicy, which is always a plus!

Age Gap Romance.
Lyla is a young woman who has just accepted a new job as a physiotherapist. While she sees it as an opportunity to escape her personal worries, she didn't expect her new patient to be Arthur, the man with whom she had a one-night stand some time ago.
Will Lyla and Arthur have a beautiful love story, or will their personal issues and their caregiver-patient relationship prevent it….

This was a cute second story for Birch Valley. I truly enjoyed their relationship as well as the crossovers with timeline between this book and the first.

This has great mental health representation. I felt seen and understood as someone who struggles with anxiety.

Ending got wrapped up quickly, but nicely. can't wait for the next book in the series.

This book was AMAZING!!!!!!! Lyla and Arthur are my new favorite book couple! Lyla pushed Arthur out of his comfort zone! This book was so cozy and beautiful!!!.
