Jody Hedlund is the best-selling author of over fifty books and is the winner of numerous awards. She writes sweet historical romances with plenty of sizzle. Find out more at jodyhedlund.com.
Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. When she’s not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate.
The third installment in the Healing Springs Ranch series is a modern fairy tale with a tenacious heroine, a Prince incognito, and plenty of swoon and sweet kisses.
This was 5-star escapism! Hedlund balanced risk, love, and discovery in perfect proportions in this hidden-identity novel. The thrill of a hidden truth captivates me. Yes, I love the tension, but I think it’s the profound moments of vulnerability in shielding oneself that pull at my heartstrings. Emberly and Max were both looking for authentic connection, and watching them find it while protecting their hearts was immensely satisfying.
I was pulled into a fantastic story about two people who were looking for love and searching for that one special person who would go beyond the masks they wore.
Hedlud nailed: ✔️the characters’ desire for transformation, acceptance and adventure and showed me that there’s always more beneath the surface. ✔️the conflict; the internal struggle both had in keeping the secret and the external stakes of royal position and legacy as well as protection from the paparazzi. ✔️the secret key in every relationship; quality relationship matters more than the quantity of time together ✔️ the triple R = Really Royal Reveal
Don’t miss this installment about protecting one’s heart! It’s royally good.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
But once we decide on a person, they become the one, and it's our lifelong job to turn them into our soulmate.
I will start this review off by saying that it would be nearly impossible for me to like any book of Hedlund's as much as I liked the previous book in the series, Broncos and Ballads. (That book is still in my thoughts daily). This book has one trope that isn't terribly common in contemporary romance, the secret royal. It definably added extra importance plus a bit of fun for our MMC as he was looking for his future spouse. One aspect that I really admired about our FMC was her ability to stand up for herself and her relationship. She was willing to hear people out, but wasn't afraid to stick up for what was right. It was so refreshing to have a heroine with both those qualities. All of that said, there was one element that drove me a little batty--thankfully it didn't last long-- but the miscommunication/hiding secrets. This is most assuredly a personal preference, but it is a very strong one that I have, especially when the characters are in their 20s/30s and not teens anymore. It may be boring, but I just prefer that they act like adults. Don't let this one thing stop you from reading the book though, because overall, it was a good time and I'll still be eagerly anticipating the conclusion of the series.

*I received a copy of this book from the author. All thoughts are my own and a positive review was not required. All quotes were taken from the ARC and are subject to change upon publication.
What a delightful story! I loved the emotional journey that Max and Emberly took in this novel. Did their relationship develop quickly? Absolutely! And that supports one of the themes in this series, which is the McQuaid legacy of falling into a fast, furious, and forever love. But one of the great things in this story was seeing the way these two related to each other from the beginning as they met, to then exploring Healing Springs Ranch together and beginning to connect as friends who shared deeply with each other, and finally allowing themselves to recognize their feelings as much more than friendship. But, of course, there was also the pesky problem of Max being a secret prince. Yep, I enjoyed this story so much and loved the way the emotions ramped up toward the end of the book. And, the epilogue was so sweet! Loved it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Well, I read this story as fast as Emberly and Max fell in love! Which is really fast… but you know what? I bought it. I liked how they acknowledged it and embraced it. How it threatened to tear them apart but they overcame it by proving it wasn’t just an illusion.
The McQuaids fall in love fast and forever, but Emberly is worried the legacy of love doesn’t actually apply to her as a female member of the family. It takes a dashing prince to cause her to think that maybe she’s been wrong. She knows Max is a prince, but he’s thinking he’s been completely under the radar, haha. This story has great banter. Emberly has just the right amount of sass and backbone to be exactly who Max never realized he needed.
I loved the Colorado Cowboys series and it’s just so fun to visit these modern day McQuaids and to see their history woven into the present. I love how Hedlund brings so much romantic tension into the story without the need for spice. On the other hand, sizzle and sparks for days! I truly enjoyed the romance and the characters.
Tropes: secret prince, over-protective brothers, flirty banter, forced proximity, snowed in, love at (almost) first sight
Content: Sweet and clean with no spice- just really swoony kisses and Hedlund’s signature sizzle. Loved the respect Max shows Emberly quite a few times, never taking advantage of situations. No specific faith thread, but Christian morals present and heritage of faith for Emberly implied.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the author. I was not asked to leave a positive review. My opinions are my own.
And the McQuaid Legacy of Love strikes again. Okay, not really. It doesn’t strike, but it does find its matches and binds them together.
Max and Emberly don’t have an easy journey, but it is fairly quick! But it’s not without its trials along the way.
I loved Emberly’s strong spirit, and the way she treated Max like he was any old person, and not someone special because he was a prince. Max and his stoic nature took a bit to grow on me, but it was obvious he and Emberly were a perfect match!
If you’re looking for a secret identity book, where they both fall fast, then this is the book for you!
Big thanks to Jody for my ARC and the chance to read early!
Does the McQuaid family legacy of falling in love hard & fast only apply to the men? Absolutely not! Emberly gets her sizzling happily-ever-after in this swoon-worthy addition to the Healing Springs Ranch series, proving the legacy lives on in the women too. Lassos & Lace had everything I love in a sweet Western romance, a spirited heroine, hidden identity, getting snowed in, & that outdoor Colorado charm. Add in a prince in disguise, & I’m hooked!
After her last failed relationship, Emberly McQuaid doubts the family legacy applies to her. As the ranch’s event coordinator, she’s tasked with making a strong first impression when a key employee gets sick. With an illustrious international baking group arriving, it’s up to her to ensure their attractive CEO, Max Berg, is well taken care of.
Prince Max arrives hoping for anonymity & a break from paparazzi pressure & the looming expectation to marry before his next birthday. He’s immediately captivated by Emberly, who treats him like a normal person. She’s not trying to impress him, but does anyway especially when she offers lessons on how to win a woman. Though he takes his responsibilities seriously, he relishes the chance to relax & be himself around her. I loved watching the sparks fly as their undeniable chemistry flares to life, especially since she speaks fluent German & secretly knows his identity, yet treats him no differently.
Wow! I’m usually skeptical of falling hard & fast, but this story totally works. Max & Emberly share an instant bond that captured my heart. I’ve loved this continuation of the McQuaid legacy & each story has been such a joy. Emberly’s is one of my favorites, & I enjoyed seeing the spunky redhead meet her match. Max is every bit the handsome prince & a perfect gentleman. Being snowed in tests his limits, but he’s always respectful. Their whirlwind romance faces challenges especially with her overprotective brothers & the paparazzi, but I loved how it all came together.
Highly recommend for closed-door Western romance fans! Though part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but it’s even more enjoyable if you’ve read the previous books. I received an advanced copy but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.
*Lassos and Lace* by Jody Hedlund is such a sweet and uplifting romance it has that perfect blend of heart, charm, and emotional depth that makes it incredibly easy to fall into. The historical, small-town feel adds a cozy layer to the story, and the pacing keeps things engaging without ever feeling rushed.
Max is such a strong and steady presence in the book. He has that classic dependable, hardworking energy, but there’s also a quiet depth to him that makes his character really compelling. He’s not overly expressive at first, but you can see how much he cares through his actions, especially when it comes to Emberly. There’s a protective, thoughtful side to him that slowly becomes more visible, and watching him open up emotionally is honestly one of the most satisfying parts of the story.
Emberly is such a lovely and well-developed character. She brings warmth, resilience, and a sense of determination that makes her easy to root for. I loved how she balances strength with vulnerability she’s capable and independent, but she also has moments where you really feel her struggles and hopes. Her journey feels personal and heartfelt, and it adds a lot of emotional richness to the story.
Together, Max and Emberly have such a beautiful, slow-building connection. Their relationship is full of gentle tension, meaningful moments, and that growing trust that makes everything feel genuine. It’s not overly dramatic it’s more about quiet understanding and emotional closeness, which fits perfectly with the tone of the book. By the time their relationship fully blossoms, it feels completely earned and incredibly satisfying.
Overall, this is such a charming, feel-good read that’s full of heart. Max and Emberly’s story adds so much warmth and emotional depth, making it a perfect choice if you’re in the mood for a cozy, romantic escape.
Ahh, this was just so fun. I love this series and I am enjoying getting to read each siblings’ story and adventure. Lassos and Lace is about Emberly and Max. Emberly is the only girl in the McQuaid family and I loved reading her story. Lassos and Lace is the third book in Jody Hedlund’s Healing Spring Ranch series. I adored both Emberly and Max! They were such fun characters. They were trying to find themselves in their own ways. I love Emberly’s independence and how she worked hard. She was trying to prove herself to her family. Max was stubborn and wanted to be a good king, but he was also struggling to figure out what he wanted to do in life. Both Max and Emberly had some growing to do throughout the book. I liked the progression of their relationship. They could be themselves with each other. Emberly didn’t have to prove herself to Max. And Max could just be a normal person to Emberly. They were so sweet together. I really liked how they challenged each other to be better versions of themselves. The romance was sweet and the story was engaging. I wanted to see how Emberly and Max would end up together. Emeberly was committed to her home and Max was a prince with a responsibility. The side characters were a lot of fun, I really liked Max’s companions. The family scenes were also sweet. I really enjoyed this book and I would totally recommend it! The characters were likable and the story was interesting. I am so excited for the next book! Lassos and Lace is a closed door contemporary romance with passionate kisses. Book Highlights: Second prince Forced proximity Family themes Only sister Protective brothers Ranch setting I received a complimentary copy
Thank you to the author for the e-ARC of Lassos and Lace by Jody Hedlund. All opinions are my own.
Lassos and Lace is book three in the Healing Springs Ranch series. While there are mentions of some events from previous books, you would still be okay to read it as a standalone.
This book has a whirlwind romance with such sweet and romantic characters. I loved that even though things progressed quickly, there was still a good foundation of friendship between Max and Emberly.
While Max was definitely pretentious at first, I still liked his character from the very beginning. He was able to rile Emberly up so easily, and I liked that he was willing to get away from the formal lifestyle he was used to.
Emberly was a strong character, and I liked how she didn’t care who Max was. She treated him differently than other people did, and I think she was really good for him. I also liked how she stood up to her brothers when they were being unreasonable.
The romance was so sweet, and I liked how much chemistry there was between Max and Emberly. I do think they rushed things a bit, but I was overall happy with their relationship.
I also really enjoyed Emberly’s dad. He was so laid back, and I liked how he supported Max and Emberly even when the McQuaid brothers were so against them being together.
There were some really surprising parts in the plot that kept me wanting to continue reading. I ended up being so invested in the story that I finished it all in one day.
Overall, I would recommend this book! It had a sweet and passionate romance with some great characters.
Who doesn’t love a little fairytale with their ranch hands?! Healing Springs Ranch is more of a destination ranch nowadays. I love this sweet story. Emberly is the only girl amid the testosterone filled McQuaid siblings. And I for one thinks she deserves to be treated like a princess, even though she can ride, shoot and rope just as well as her brothers. When an international company books the resort for a corporate retreat, it is fortuitous that Emberly speaks German. But when she overhears something they want to keep quiet, she decides she can also keep a secret. Max came to this retreat incognito. His desire is to do a little bit of work, but mostly just relax and reflect on his father’s expectations. The chemistry between Emberly and Max is quite evident, as much as they try to fight it, some things are just meant to be. I love watching how protective Emberly’s brothers are, but her father‘s wise wisdom is inspiring. The plot of the story thickens with a looming important birthday, snowstorm, and international relations. It is highly entertaining with clean wholesome swoony romance. It is book 3 of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. Sweet immersion into the McQuaide family dynamics is well worth reading the series.
How can the most passionate love crazy romance between a Prince (who is also a banking CEO) and college-drop-out-event-planner ever happen? In the beginning of reading Lassos and Lace, I thought “I can’t see how this is going to work? How on earth will Amberley and Max ever get together in a believable way?” I should have caught myself then and there because Jody Hedlund delivers EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!!! And this book is no exception.
This third instalment of the Healing Springs Ranch series can be read as a stand alone novel. I actually haven’t yet read the other two books yet (but now I have to because this story was so good!).
What I loved: •FMC Amberly’s refusal to pander to Prince Max’s royalty •MMC Max’s surprise and respect of that same treatment •Amberly discovering what she really wants and needs in love. •Max chasing after what is truly important. •The way the hidden attraction to each other starts to leak out in little bursts until it absolutely can’t anymore
I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting!!!! The further into the story I got, the less likely I was to put it down. All in all, I give this beautiful love story 5 stars!!! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my first ARC book and oh my goodness how much I loved having this opportunity!! One year ago I was introduced to reading Jody Hedlund’s books by our librarian. I have now read 90% of her books and loved each so much.
Lassos and Lace is the 3rd installment of this contemporary McQuaid legacy story. It is a cowboys and Wild West theme mixed with a Prince looking for his Princess to become King and Queen. Secrets are kept and revealed.
The love story is the sweetest and best one in this series so far. I love the teaching moments about how a husband should treat his wife through T.W.’s lessons and life. T.W. has modeled these values to his daughter, Emberly. She then expects it from Max by teaching him how to win a lady.
I enjoyed reading this book from start to finish. I just wish I didn’t have to put it down so much. I can’t wait for Dustin and Kade’s stories. I’m also curious to see if Jody does anything with cousin Carissa mentioned in this book. I highly recommend you read this book!

A contemporary cowboy romance Emberly McQuaid the only girl in a family with four brothers. Working at her family ranch/resort, she’s smart, beautiful, and hoping to experience the McQuaid love legacy just like all the men in her family. Max is a prince from Karltenburg trying to escape the demanding life he leads as a bank CEO and heir to the throne. His father is pressuring him to find a wife before his thirty fifth birthday. Max with his body guard and assi a stant head to healing spring ranch for a week to get away. From the first moment they meet Max can’t get enough of Emberly. After spending a week together both Max and Emberly are both quickly falling in love. Will they be able to make a life together when they are both from very different worlds ? This is the third book of the McQuaid family of modern times. I have loved reading about this family and the love legacy. If you’re looking for a sweet and a little cheesy fun romance you will absolutely love reading this book. I received an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the third book in Jody Hedlund’s Healing Springs Ranch series. It’s a contemporary romance series, but the historical background comes from Hedlund’s Colorado Cowboys series that introduced the original McQuaid brothers. You do not have to have read the Colorado Cowboys series to enjoy this series.
This book, my favorite so far, is about Emberly, the only McQuaid daughter. She feels like she has to prove her worth to her family, and protect herself from her overprotective brothers. She’s an event planner, and ends up having to be the personal concierge for what turns out to be a young, handsome bank CEO instead of a middle-aged bank president. The story of their romance is fun to read, especially because they’re both hiding things from the other. Add in getting stranded together in a snowstorm…
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own. #LassosandLace
Lassos and lace is a slow burn sizzling closed door romance novel that is truly entertaining. The FMC Emberly McQuaid can hold her own in a family with four strong independent brothers and parents and grandparents with a romance story to emulate. Emberly just doesn't think the McQuaid legacy of love applies to her- until she gets bit by the love bug- even then, she denies it. She is continually trying to be perfect to make up for her perceived failures in life.
Max Berg arrives on the scene as a prince in disguise only displaying his bank CEO hat. He does start out very demanding and stuck up, but I love that Emberly can put him in his place.
The book had me laughing and longing in equal parts. I would not recommend this book for teenagers as some parts are more content than they need to read. Overall, a wholesome book.
I received a complimentary copy of Lassos and Lace from the author. All opinions are my own.
I'm starting to fall in love with these western contemporary romances! I adore Jody's historical fiction work, but her newest contemporary novels are quickly becoming my second (not by much) fave! 😍 Everything about this novel will lure you in--the banter, swoony conversations, and sizzly kisses! Love cultivates fast in this one, as the passion and devotion Emberly and Max have for one another will sweep you off your feet! Truly a McQuaid-kind-of-love! Honestly, I really liked the undercover identity and royal entourage too! Overall, this is the type of novel I know you're dying to read! Princess Protection Program meets The Notebook! 😍
If you enjoy stories with: ✨ Secret prince ✨ Only girl in family ✨ Overprotective brothers ✨ He falls fast ✨ Stranded together ✨ Swoony kisses You'll love this one! ❤️
✨ Lassos and Lace is the third novel in the "Healing Springs Ranch" series, though it can be read as a standalone. Suitable for young adult readers and older. ✨
What a pleasure to return to Healing Springs Ranch in the beautiful Colorado high country for another visit and adventure with the wonderful McQuaid family. This is Emberly's heartwarming story of secret identity and fall-fast romance that kept me turning pages eager to see what happened next. I love how Emberly and Max's relationship progresses to one that is mutually fulfilling. I also loved Emberly's father's solid relationship advice and how he supported and encouraged both of them. A well-paced plot, richly crafted characters, an atmospheric setting, and sweet romance combine to make this an enjoyable, satisfying read. I look forward to reading the next book in the series! Note: Even though this is third book in the Healing Springs Ranch series, it can easily be read as a standalone. I read an early copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jody Hedlund’s Lassos and Lace is as cute and cheesy as you’d expect from a western-style undercover prince trope.
Max doesn’t really plan on taking time off. After all, what he really needs to do is to make a decision - marry a woman he doesn’t love, or abdicate the throne? But things change when he meets fierce and sassy Emberly, his guide for the week at Healing Springs Ranch.
Emberly has always felt the need to prove herself to her family. Between her past failures and her overprotective brothers, she works extra hard in an attempt to show her family that she’s a responsible adult.
As the two are forced together, their priorities soon change, but their secrets could put an end to everything.
Lassos and Lace is a quick, easy read without too much depth or a lot of surprises.
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
I went from reading the Colorado Cowboys series to the present day McQuaid cowboys/girls and it has been such a fun reading experience! This third book in Jody Hedlunds Healing Springs Ranch book series was the perfect addition to the McQuaid family legacy of love. Emberly is afraid she won’t get to experience the fierce, all consuming love that the men in her family have had for generation’s. But that all changes when an undercover Prince, decides to stay at her family’s ranch and wants Emberly to do everything with him. Be ready for flirty and funny banter, no spice but still plenty of swoon worthy kisses, lingering looks and close proximity situations that make it impossible to put the book down.
*I received a copy from the author. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to leave positive review.
Lassos and Lace is a contemporary romance that continues the McQuaid family legacy of love that originated in the 1800s. Fast, furious, and forever certainly applies to Emberly and Max's relationship! Their attraction is instant, their chemistry amazing, and the sexual tension tops the charts in this clean but sizzling closed-door romance!
I loved the characters, setting, and the royal romance trope. Throw in being snowbound in a cabin with a gallant prince and the complication of overprotective brothers, and you'll understand why Lassos and Lace is such a special addition to the Hidden Springs Ranch series. Well done, Jody Hedlund!
I received a complimentary copy from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are mine alone.
This is book #3 in the Healing Springs Ranch series, but can be read as a standalone book.
This tells the story of Emberly McQuaid, the only girl in a family with four brothers. She is hoping to experience the family love legacy like all the men in the family have had.
With being the only daughter in the family she feels she has to prove her worth and protect herself from her very protective brothers.
Max tries to keep his being a prince a secret while he tries to leave the pressures of home behind and relax at the ranch. As Emberly and Max and do things together their attraction to each other is instant.
Looking for to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. The review expressed here is my honest opinion.
Emberly loved her job. The family resort- Healing Springs Ranch- brought her so much joy. She worked hard but the benefits were many. That's why so many guests wanted to stay there. Can this ranch heal her heart?
Max was attracted to this location as it was private. He needed some privacy to think things over. What will be his next move?
Emberly decided to be Max's personal concierge. His recommendation could and would make a big difference in the resort's success. Unbeknownst to him, she found out who he really was. It really did not make much of a difference to her. Max liked to be treated normally. Plus she was gorgeous.
I enjoyed the quick paced romance. Sparks were flying. And the rest could be a royal romance.
Lassos and Lace is the third book in Jody Hedlund’s contemporary cowboy series - Healing Springs Ranch. If you enjoyed her Colorado Cowboys and Colorado Cowgirls series, don’t miss this contemporary Western fiction romance series that follows the McQuaid decedents from the Colorado Cowboy series. Emberly is the event manager on her family’s ranch who agrees to serve as the personal concierge for a very important guest, Max Berg. Max tries to keep his princely identity secret while he attempts to leave the pressures of home behind and enjoy the ranch. Will the time Emberly and Max spend together lead to something more? I recommend Lassos and Lace to readers who enjoy a contemporary romance full of sizzle, royalty, and overprotective brothers. Reading the first two books in the series is not required to enjoy Emberly and Max’s story, but it does provide additional information about the setting and McQuaid family. I eagerly await the next book in this series by Jody Hedlund! Thank you to BookFunnel, the author, and the publisher for my review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
A little bit different than what I'm used to reading. I didn't really care for it at first. Maybe because I jumped in the middle of this series and didn't know it. But it turned out ok as I kept reading. Sometimes it even made me laugh. Especially at Max since he was in for the surprise of his lifetime with Emberley. as his guide. I did enjoy in getting to know them lol. They were cute together. I also loved the setting. Hedlund really made me feel like I was there Hedlund is quite the storyteller. I do love her historical fiction best though. I'm giving this story 5 stars for making it believable and the cool characters Thanks for the opportunity to read and review this story. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
It's been a while since I've read a book by this author and I'm so glad to be back on the ranch in Colorado.
It's so fun to be in the present day with the Mc Quaid family. Emberly is such a tough lady that works hard and does her best to help her family. Max is struggling with who he is and what he wants to do. The chemistry begins with these two as they "work" together. I loved how Emberly doesn't let Max get away with anything. The way that their relationship unfolds throughout the story is so fun and met with many surprises.
Thanks to the author for the arc. The opinions are my own.
This fast-paced book by Jody Hedlund is a delightful romance that will put a smile on your face. Featuring the only daughter in the McQuaid family, Emberley, we continue their legacy of love as she finds herself caught up in her own romance, and with a prince no less! It is a fast and furious connection, though fraught with secrets that create a tension threatening to divide the couple.
A fun read, one that kept me fully engaged and turning page after page in anticipation. I did not want to put this one down!
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Emberly McQuaid works hard as event manager at her family's Healing Springs Ranch but she has always seemed insecure because she dropped out of college and sees herself as a drop out. Emberly goes all out to insure that an international banking group will have no complaints during their stay! Max Berg is keeping his royalty a secret while at the ranch but requests Emberly's undivided attention. When Max, Emberly and Max's assistant and bodyguard are trapped in a cabin during a snowstorm, Emberly's overly protective brothers are not happy! You won't want to miss this latest book with the McQuaid family. I received an advance e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
You can never go wrong with a Jody Hedlund book! Her McQuaid family series is no exception. I love a good royalty troupe. Max is such a dreamy royal and I love how he pursues Emberly. The cabin scenes are my favorite! Who doesn’t want to be snowbound in a mountain cabin with a prince!? Reading Emberly and Max’s fast and furious forever story was such a joy to read. This book had some surprises that really makes it stand out against other secret prince troupes. I fully recommend this book.
I liked that Emberly was a strong female character, she was willing to stand up to her brothers and Max (a prince in hiding). She was independent, loyal, and a hard worker, trying to prove something to her family. Max's bodyguard and right hand man were fun side characters. This was a sweet romance between two people of different worlds who saw something in the other that helped them become better. It has a wonderful ending.
