this series is so stinkin cute; yarn is everything is arguably the creepiest story in this creepy tales series! from winona’s obsession to winning to the facial features of the characters, i was chilled to the bone lol

In this Twilight Zone style companion to Troubling Tonsils and Unsettling Salad, we meet Winona Mole, a young crocheting prodigy. Starting at the age of three with a scarf, she has graduated over the years to sweaters and a variety of amigurumi animals. She adores the television reality show, Yarn is Everything, where fiber artists compete to see who can make yarn versions of everyday objects. Winona was not happy with her own creations, but after a visit to a yarn museum where a replica of the fabled Spirit Hook made it's way into her project bag, she practices making crocheted items that look... freakishly realistic. Her father eats half of a wool sandwich before he realizes it, and mentions that Winona should apply to be on the Yarn is Everything show. She's accepted, and her crocheting escalates. She even turns in a math paper that is entirely crocheted! Her parents often find her in her room, wrapped in scarves, talking to herself about her hobby. When she gets on the show, she is competing against two much older crafters, and is worried that her crocheted sushi and green sea fan coral won't be authentic enough. Winona wants to win, but has her hobby become all consuming?
This series started with the picture book, Creepy Carrots, and the Jasper Rabbit's Creepy Tales spin off is perfect for elementary readers who want slightly scary chapter books. The tone is oddly serious for such a silly tale, and the black and gray illustrations with touches of teal support this beautifully. Winona is so joyful about her craft at first, but like any obsession, it spirals into the darker side when she becomes obsessed with turning everything around her into a yarn versions of itself.
There's even a Rod Serling-esque narrator, a bunny in a suit, at the beginning, introducing the tale. We can tell that the crochet hook is somehow evil; it's got a creepy teal glow to it. How did it get into Winona's bag? What effect does it have on her? We don't really know, in the same way that the Twilight Zone episodes where often a bit vague. After all, what's scarier than uncertainty?
It's hard to find scary books for early elementary grades; it has to be just the right blend of creepy and comical, so it's scary without giving children nightmares. This is perfect for readers who like the shivering thrills of Schwartz's I Can Read Books In A Dark, Dark Room, Preller and Bruno's Scary Tales series, or for that great aunt in your life who turns out way too many toilet roll covers.

Okay, I’m going to need an audio version of this with someone narrating in the style of Rod Serling. For real. This one was quite the creepy tale! Winona Mole loves yarn. Crocheting yarn. She loves it so much that, for her ninth birthday, her father takes her to a crochet and yarn museum. At the museum, she finds many amazing things, but the most amazing one comes free. It is a little crochet hook, somehow slipped into her backpack. Winona starts crocheting like she never did before with this new hook. She’s working on perfecting her ability to make crocheted items look real like they do on her favorite show, “Yarn is Everything.”
But her gift has a price. And that price is obsession. Winona Mole becomes so good at replicas of food and other items, she fools others into thinking they are real. She signs up for the show. But will she ever be good enough to win? And, if she is good enough, what will be the price? After all, nothing is free, not even a crochet hook. This one had me shivering and I’m a grown adult! I read Yarn is Everything, the third of Aaron Reynold’s “Jasper Rabbit’s Creepy Tales” along with my 8-year-old. We have enjoyed the previous two books as well as Reynold’s other books and were excited to start this one.
In the book, Yarn is Everything, Winona Mole is a serious crocheter and dreams of being on the crafting show “Yarn is Everything”. When a mysterious crochet hook comes into her possession, her dreams become a reality as she is invited to be the youngest crafter to be on the show. In the build up to the show, Winona’s desire to create crotched works of art that are indistinguishable from real items becomes an obsession and she spends more and more time creating works of art.
While we found this to be the creepiest of the three “Creepy Tales” books, it did not draw us in as much as the previous two. This might be because my own child is not particularly into crafting and therefore didn’t connect with the idea as much. We will definitely be continuing the series.

We recently read Yarn is Everything by Aaron Reynolds as a class, and I’ll start by saying the premise is definitely unique. My 4th graders were especially excited to dive in because they’ve enjoyed Reynolds’ previous books, and there was a lot of anticipation going in.
That said, this one didn’t quite land the way we had hoped. While the concept is creative and quirky, it struggled to hold my students’ attention over time. The humor and style that work so well in Reynolds’ picture books didn’t seem to translate as effectively into a longer chapter book format.
I’ve really enjoyed many of Reynolds’ books over the years, which made this one a bit disappointing for us. It’s not without its moments, but overall, it wasn’t as engaging or memorable as we expected. This might still appeal to readers who enjoy offbeat, unusual stories, but for our classroom, it didn’t quite stick.

As diehard Aaron Reynolds fans, we had to pick up Yarn is Everything. I read this aloud to my five-year-old daughter and was honestly surprised by how engaged she stayed—it’s a bit longer than her usual favorites like Creepy Pair of Underwear, but the creative and clever storytelling kept her hooked.
It is such an unexpected and fun read. I pride myself on finding books that parents won’t mind reading on repeat, and this definitely fits the bill; there were actually several parts I found even funnier than my daughter did! While it might not be his strongest book to date, it is still incredibly entertaining. Another clever addition to our home library.

This is the latest entry into Jasper Rabbit’s Creepy Tales. This time we hear the tale of Winona Mole and how her crochet skills get “creepy” good. This series is an amazing read aloud for young kids who are ready for a slightly longer and more complex stories. This one hits that sweet spot - just enough “creepy” to be exciting, balanced with humor so it never feels too heavy. It kept my kids engaged start to finish, and the familiar Jasper Rabbit illustrations are dramatic, moody, and so fun to look at.
11-year-old:
“It wasn’t really that spooky, but it was interesting and fun to read. I liked how the story built up and the pictures made it more exciting.”

“I liked it because it was a little creepy but also funny. The yarn hook part was silly and I liked the pictures with the blue coloring.”

As usual, I really enjoy Aaron Reynolds' books. This one is my second favorite in the Jasper Rabbit's Creepy Tales! series so far. I think this book is the eeriest of all three so far. The scary elements are masterful and subtle. The cover is definitely the scariest of the three books so far. I really enjoy Reynolds' ability to take things that are far from being creepy and making them creepy.

I read this book with my 7yo son & my 9yo daughter, we read it all in one sitting and the kids absolutely loved it.
The creep factor was fun, it wasn't so creepy and scary that my kids were uninterested or uncomfortable, it was a good, very benign creepy.
I am a crocheter and my daughter is in the process of learning herself so it was also fun for her to read something that was thematic to her current hobby!
Definitely a fun read && my kiddos really wanna get a physical copy when it's released!

Another fantastic installment in the "Jasper Rabbit's Creepy Tales" series! Author Aaron Reynolds really captures the vibe and tone of the old Twilight Zone series on which these stories seem to be modeled.
Winona the mole comes into possession of a magical crochet hook. Now she can crochet as never before, creating items in yarn that look exactly like the real thing. She goes on a crochet reality show and wins! But what happens when a fun hobby turns into obsession to win? Be careful what you wish for...

Aaron Reynolds is at it again with his spooky children's tales, this one being a beginner chapter book following Winona Mole as she perfects her crochet skills.
While this one felt a tad bit predictable to me as an adult reader, it was still gripping and spooky in a way that young readers will most definitely enjoy. As always, I love the "The Twilight Zone" vibes and the creepy illustrations. I will always recommend Reynold's books for children who love a bit of friendly spook!

Winona Mole loves to crochet. She also loves watching her favorite TV show "Yarn is Everything". It is a reality competition for folks who crochet. Winona is very talented with crocheting but not THAT talented. At least, not until her 9th birthday. That is the day a very special crochet hook appears magically in her backpack. Obviously a gift from her father. Or was it?

I put this book on hold at the library because I thought the title was funny.
I picked up this book at the library to flip through and have a cute giggle.
And next thing I knew I'd read the whole thing, laughing all the way at this perfectly ordinary book about getting way to into crochet and becoming one with the yarn. Happens to the best of us, honestly. RIP little mole girl.
But seriously, devoured in one sitting, hilarious with creepy vibes. Cute art. What more could I want?

ARC Copy...The creepy level of the stories is still high in this spin off series and with a lot of oh my this is sadistic humor too added in. As a yarn lover with complete sanity over my craft, I was laughing my head off. It true however one can make anything out of yarn although to that level of detail like in this tale is wild stretch!

Very fun and inventive! Perfect for 8-10 who love a little creepy tale. It’s a fun little lesson in not being consumed by any one thing where you lose yourself completely. Winning isn’t everything although it may seem like it is at the time. My 9 year old enjoyed reading this with me, this was our first book in the Creepy series by Aaron Reynolds and we will definitely be checking out the others.

This was a fun read with my tween! The storyline was detailed enough to keep our interest and it was a good length for an out-loud read over a couple of nights. We loved the undertone of suspense and the plot twist was great!

We LOVE the Creepy Carrots series, so we were very excited to see a new book is coming out! We enjoyed the humor of this and the “Twilight Zone” format, but the ending definitely scared my kid a bit haha. This is one of the “creepier” tales in the series.

This series is like the Twilight Zone for kids! The tone, the creepiness, the twist at the end, it is true perfection. Book 3 is another fabulous entry, spoofing "Is it cake?" with crochet. These books can be read in any order and you will want to read them all! Highly recommended for grades 2 & up.

Another great installment of Jasper Rabbit's Creepy Tales! and it was well worth the wait. This is a great addition to the collection that fans of the series will enjoy.
Full of rich vocabulary and points to ponder, I think this would be a wonderful read aloud with a group of young makers.

A trilogy book series for children. This is the third in the series and my favorite. Kind of Twilight Zoneish. I loved all three hardcovers of these books. Winona Mole learns to crochet and it gets out of hand.

The opening page is a great hook (pardon the pun) for kids. For the crocheter this is absolutely true. The author has created (spun…crafted… crocheted a real winner of a story!
