I loved this book so much! If I didn’t have to go to sleep early last night, I easily would have finished this one in one sitting! It’s a quick, sweet summer romance and will have you grinning like an idiot. I absolutely loved Tommy and Andie’s journey together. The fact that they knew of each other but didn’t really know that much about each other was crazy because they ended up having so much in common! I also loved that they were both supportive of each other’s hobbies, dreams, and even fears. This book is a great read for all ages!

I haven't picked up a YA romance in quite a while, and this was a nice one to start up again. Something I really liked about this one was the characters really took their time getting to know each other as supportive friends before falling for each other. It was definitely not an insta-love book, and it wasn't even really an insta-attraction book. I liked that about this story. Our two MCs, decided to support each other through their let downs and in the process found they had a lot in common, genuinely enjoyed each other's company, and realized they were able to open up around each other more than with anyone else. Definitely a fun summer romance.

This was a very cute and summery YA romance. I do think I would recommend it solely for young adults, but it’s definitely good feeling vibes, even if I wasn’t the target audience.

This was so freaking cuteeee!!!
Andie, our main FL, sends a suggestive text to her long-time friend and crush, Patrick, hoping to move their relationship forward after they shared a kiss the previous summer. Only to find out, upon arriving at his home, that not only is he being awkward around her, but he also has a girlfriend—and she's staying at their vacation home. She and her bestie, Mel, try to do damage control by sneaking into his room to delete the text before he sees it, but they're caught in the act by his brother, Tommy.
This was such a fun read. When it was mentioned in the earlier chapters that Tommy, back when he was still the uncool, serious older brother, would stare at Andie until she eventually looked up, only to get annoyed, pack up his stuff, and leave, I was all in! And I am so glad he ended up being the love interest.
The dynamic between the two of them—two heartbroken teenagers leaning on each other to get over their pain, discovering how much they have in common, cheering each other on, and eventually falling in love—ugh, be still my heart. I absolutely loved it.
While I was reading the last chapter, I had taken some medication for a health issue I'm dealing with, and it made me incredibly drowsy. I fought so hard to stay awake to finish it, but when I woke up the next morning, I realized I lost the battle lol. It was totally worth it, though, because I loved re-reading that final chapter anyway.
I really hope and pray we get a book about Andie's mom and Simon. Pleaseeeeeee!!! I want that story so badly.
Also, when I first came across this title—and every other time I saw it—I kept hearing "You jump, I jump" in my head. I couldn't figure out where I'd heard it before, so two days ago I finally gave in and Googled it. Turns out it's from Titanic. Then there's a chapter in the book where the characters reference Rose, Jack, and the movie, and I felt so validated because it definitely wasn't just me thinking it.

For the last few summers Andie has been crushing hard on Patrick, but she was left absolutely mortified after their first kiss last summer. Embarrassed by how it all went down, she has vowed to make things right this summer, but when she finds out Patrick has a girlfriend, and that he wasn’t really into their kiss, she’s absolutely crushed. Tommy is Patrick’s brother and when his girlfriend breaks up with him via text at the beginning of the summer he’s convinced his summer will absolutely suck. Together Andie and Tommy decide to make a heartbreak pact, where they’ll each be each other’s emotional support person in case of emotional emergencies. But when the lines begin to blur, will they be able to stick to their pact?
I listened to the audiobook version of this novel and loved the dual narrators. I liked how Tommy pushed Andie outside of her comfort zone, but in a respectful way. The communication style of the teenagers was so impressive, but it made the adult communication stick out as a little unrealistic. I felt like this was an interesting twist on the fake dating trope, because Andie and Tommy weren’t pretending to date, but were around each other and supporting each other in front of other people. I enjoyed the side characters and the friendships between them. I can see this being a popular one with my students who are looking for a cute summer romcom.

One thing I felt was missing in Myah Ariel’s first two books is getting the male POV. It was a treat to hear from both Andie and Tommie in “You Jump First”.
Andie’s parents recently divorced so it’s just her and her mom at summer house. Patrick, her long time crush, and she shared a disastrous kiss at the end of last summer. Patrick has come back with a girlfriend for the summer, which leaves Andie as the third wheel with most of her friend group. Patrick’s older brother Tommy is in a similar situation since his girlfriend broke up with him recently.
This is a cute concept where Andie and Tommy become “heartbreak support animals” to each other and of course they get closer in the process. Ms. Ariel focuses on situations where parents want something different than what kids want for themselves. Tommy is toeing the line of pleasing his parents and following his own dreams. With Tommie’s help, Andie gains courage to combat some of her fears and “jump first” literally and figuratively. There is also a side story that had me wondering iOS Andie’s mom will be featured in a future story. I would definitely be interested in that book. All in all this was a cute summer read.

Super cute, YA novel. I enjoyed that this novel didn't sugarcoat the issues that a lot of teenagers face. It was a breathe of fresh air to go on a journey with multiple characters and watch them figure it out in healthy ways.
Andie was a great FMC. She felt her feelings but was also mature enough to know that some of her feelings were self inflicted and not indicative of others around her. I think that was a testament to her parents who has their own issues on the side but were always willing to apologize when things went south. Tommy was a great MMC, in the same vein. He did the same and grew into his own as a character.
The growth and maturity made me wish I could go back to high school and redo some things. But I love that there are stories like this for teenagers to read now.
Myah Ariel always manages to get it right. And this novel was no exception. I'm excited that this will be out in the world soon.

I love a good summer rom-com, and this one was such a fun read! You Jump First is a sweet, funny YA romance that had me smiling the whole way through.
Andie is back at the lake with her friends, ready for a summer full of adventure, making memories, and maybe even a little romance. The only problem? She still has a crush on Patrick…who shows up with a girlfriend. Talk about awkward.
That’s when Tommy, Patrick’s quiet older brother, steps in to help distract Andie from her longtime crush. I really enjoyed watching Tommy come out of his shell and spend more time with the lake crew. Seeing his relationship with Andie grow was one of my favorite parts of the story.
Even though this is a YA romance, it didn’t feel immature. It was funny, lighthearted, and full of those nostalgic summer vibes that make you want to spend the day by the lake. If you’re looking for a cute, feel-good summer read.

This was a cute, easy read. It's a sweet summer romance with a few serious life issues (like divorce, fear of heights, and living up to your parents' expectations) sprinkled in. The secondary and full cast of characters really brought the book together and made Andie's and Tommy's characters shine.
Where I found myself 'checked out' from the story was when Tommy reads or describes the blot of the story he's writing. While I appreciated and understood how his writing was a vehicle to show his growth and emotion around dating, I felt including the actual passages of his dystopian tragedy actually distracted from the official characters I was interested in. A solid 3.25 stars tho. I'm interested in reading more from this author.

This was such a clean young adult romance story. This book shows what friendships should truly be like. I enjoyed the strong bond between Andie and her mother also. There are plenty of funny, happy and, sad moments. It's definitely a story that shows sometimes the person you thought you had to be with was really the wrong person. And sometimes the person you never even paid much attention to has so much to offer.
