Oh were to begin, it was so nice to be back in Tilldale, a small village community in Northumberland. This was such a lovely Christmassy read. This ideally should be read after "The Second Chance Supper Club" to meet the characters and to follow on were the first book ends. The characters are all lovely and the book has you guessing till the end as to how the relationship between Cath & Will will go!

I loved this. I think I may have even liked it more than book one. This book picks up right where the previous book left off and I loved the character developments within it.

Watching Cath and Will navigate trying to make a new relationship work along with their own baggage was relatable and very real. Just because you like someone doesn’t mean the rest is plain sailing, and the issues that affect them are real, Wills daughters upset he’s moving on, and his own personal guilt at falling for someone else. Cath is very understanding throughout it all, all whilst trying to navigate a Christmas community supper club gathering, and the prospect of being alone on Christmas.

I also enjoyed getting to see more of Nikki and her husband Kev and their boys, it was really nice how they all came together to help the community, and their mum.

Reggie and his back story, though maybe only minor to the overall plot was really sweet and touching, and he’s such a great character.

Lots of fantastic winter descriptions, made even better as some of the places were places I personally know making it extra special, I love books set in the north east. A great Christmas read for anyone who loves community and love.

This is the second book by Caroline continuing the Second Chance Supper Club series which I hadn’t read. The characters I believe are from the first book. It was a heart warming seasonal story, a little slow and long winded in my opinion but I’m going to pick up book 1 at some point and try again

Thank you for the opportunity Netgalley and the author

I adored Christmas at the Second Chance Supper Club. It’s full of festive cheer as we follow Cath who’s about to celebrate her first Christmas in her cosy Northumbrian cottage. This is a heartwarming , feel good novel of second chances. It’s full of wonderful characters and a joyous that will keep you enthralled until the end. A quick warning though, don’t read this on an empty stomach!! Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.

The perfect book sequel! I loved the first one and sometimes the second book in a series can be disappointing but not this one! I loved being back in the village with all my favourite characters- this time for Christmas. Cath really does make me want to be a better person! All she does and everything she puts into the community always makes me feel I should be doing more but in a good way! She is in this book just as heartwarming as the first book.

The budding romance between Cath and Will I loved. I also loved that it wasn’t just about those two and their relationship but the whole book also focused on other characters and the community. The village life that is written about made me want to live in a village surrounded by friendships and warmth and also at Christmas it sounded perfect.

It was a Christmas wonderland and parts of the book made me reminisce about my own past Christmas’. It gave all festive feels and could imagine curling up with this one with a hot chocolate and blanket.

You need to add this to your Christmas reading list as it is sublime writing as always by Caroline!

Christmas At The Second Chance Supper Club by Caroline Roberts is a very charming contemporary Christmas novel that I loved. It is the second book in The Second Chance Supper Club series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the books in order for character development and for timeline continuity as book two begins where book one ended.
Once more the reader returns to a small Northumberland village with familiar faces. Romance is still in the air but is complicated by strong, emotional ties to a late spouse. Grief isn’t a linear journey. There are peaks and troughs as a character looks backwards. He gives himself this advice. “Just to learn to be kind to himself. To see that he deserved a life after his loss.” Just as he is beginning to suppress his guilt and dip his toe in the waters of dating, grown up daughters’ step in to muddy the waters. I found a powerful scene that was reminiscent of the movie All That Heaven Allows where the grown-up children buy their mother (played by Jane Wyman) a television to keep her company, after they objected to her dating the handy man (played by Rock Hudson), whilst the children go about their lives. Grown children have the selfish gene, making it all about them, and their feelings, whilst never considering their father’s feelings.
In contrast, the son of a divorcee encourages his mother to have her own life but he still drives a six hour round trip to see his mother so she doesn’t wake alone on Christmas Day.
All the characters were well drawn and believable. The majority were over fifty. We see that “age never stopped anyone from falling in love.”
Members of a care home share their Christmas memories. This prompts the second chance supper club to organise a Christmas get together so that elderly residents will not be alone. The community atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I loved the mentioning of characters from another series by the author, Rachel’s Pudding Club. It helps the reader to feel a familiarity with the new characters.
The reader’s taste buds are tempted by the descriptions of delicious food. I was pleased to see the inclusion of recipes in the back of the book.
Christmas At The Second Chance Supper Club is a positively delightful read – whatever the time of year.
I received a free copy. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and HQ for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the fabulous characters of the Second Chance Supper Club. The story centres on the budding romance between Will and Cath, who are in their early fifties and both have experienced loss and heartache. We follow their story alongside the stories of the other members of the Supper Club. One of my favourite characters was Andreas, a Greek Cypriot, with a passion for delicious food and funny but sometime emotional tales. I really enjoyed how the focus was on Cath and Will but the other characters in the book were developed alongside these and you could see their individual personalities.

The setting in Northumberland was beautiful. The Supper Clubbers live in a small village, Tilldale, surrounded by the gorgeous scenery. The descriptions of the countryside were wonderful. The visits to the stunning beaches on the North East Coast, such as Low Newton, were beautifully described. The writing was so vivid and clear that I could really picture myself wandering around these lovely places. Who doesn't love a romantic stroll in the countryside or beach?

The Supper Club meet regularly at each other's houses and make the most delicious sounding food. I was salivating when I was reading this with all the food that was being cooked and eaten. I loved that we got recipes at the end of the book for some of the food that was showcased in the book.

I also loved that we started with cosy autumnal vibes and were swished along into winter and the magic of Christmas as the story progressed.

If you like a sprinkling of flamboyant fun and festive fair dust (and who doesn't) then you will love this.

Enjoyable return to the supper club, the lovely country setting, and the characters from the first book. As with the previous one, it feels good to read this "feel good" type book with more mature characters (as most books in this category have younger characters in them, or on the other side of the scale, retired ones). These are characters you can't help but to cheer for and wish all the best.

So that said, it's clear that my three star rating is not a bad rating, it means "average" and "as expected" - and that's what this is. It's exactly what I wanted and expected, it's entertaining, it's a bookish hug, but it doesn't stand out in a memorable way, it won't linger with me after I've finished it. The characters are well developed, the story is there and it's told at a good pace (although a bit too detaily at times), and the writing is solid -;it's to the point, not repetitive, not bland, not full of clichés. The style of writing suits the story and main character /narrator well (but it also doesn't stand out or have a distinct voice - and ergo the average three star rating)

This follows on from The second chance supper club and I couldn’t wait to catch up with everyone. Although this can be read as a stand alone book I would recommend reading them both as they are both excellent.

The supper club is going from strength to strength and once again we hear about some fantastic recipes which had me craving lots of different foods. I like the fact that the recipes are at the end of the book and will definitely be trying to recreate some of these.

While Will and Caths relationship is a big part of the story I liked the fact that there are plenty of other storylines running.

I enjoyed the connection that Cath made with Reggie and the true community spirit that was apparent in the village.

A beautiful 5 star feel good Christmas story that I would definitely recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley, Caroline Roberts and HQ for an advance copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I really enjoyed The Second Chance Supper Club when I read it back in August, and fell in love with the beautiful Northumberland scenery; so I was so excited to discover that a second book would be coming out for Christmas! I adored Cath and her group of Supper Club friends so I could only imagine how wonderfully cosy and delicious a Christmas Supper Club would be.

The opening scene of this book starts up exactly where the last book ended which I loved because it was a very good ending and exactly what I'd hoped for. Things aren't exactly plain sailing however, as of course Will is very much still grieving his wife and it will be a while before he feels able to open his heart to Cath. Whilst I wanted Cath to find the happiness she so deserves, I also understood that Will needs time and forcing him to commit would be entirely the wrong thing to do.

I loved the idea of the Community Christmas lunch that Cath comes up with, which turns out to be even harder work than she'd anticipated, especially when it proves to be very popular! Despite all of the turmoil in Cath's life right now she still things of others and together with the Supper Club and some new friends too, pulls off a Christmas miracle.

This was a lovely festive read filled with Christmas cheer and community spirit. It really highlighted what's important about Christmas, and made for a really relaxing and heart-warming read. It also dealt with some more difficult topics, but with an underlying feeling of hope and joy, perfect for reading in the festive season.

It was so good to be back in Tilldale and with the members of the supper club.

Set not long after the first book in the series this was a great continuation of life in the village for new comer Cath.

She is surprised the village barely has any Christmas traditions and decides to put on a meal for the elderly and lonely just before the big day. There is just one snag the only suitable venue, the village hall is in need of well some TLC, as well as various renovations. Cue some fundraising efforts.

I loved catching up with my friends from the previous book, and seeing how Cath is becoming more and more a part of village life. She even has a fledgling rather slow burn romance brewing too.

I even loved a cameo mention of a character from one of the author's other books.

It is another charming and pleasurable book in this series, which I'm rather enjoying a great deal.

Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I love this authors books and was looking forward to reading this series. This is the second book in the supper club series but could be read as a standalone as it recaps the story so far in the opening chapter. I highly recommend reading the second chance summer club first though for maximum enjoyment. I read both books in two days while recovering from illness and they are both beautiful reads full of friendship and community spirit.

I loved all of the characters and how relatable the themes in the book were and the village of Tilldale sounds the most beautiful and friendly place to live. I enjoyed the descriptions of Northumberland as they reminded me of a holiday I had there years ago.

This was a lovely comforting and uplifting read and like a hug in book form. I hope there is going to be another instalment in this wonderful series

Caroline Roberts always writes feel good romances based on relatable down to earth characters and 'Christmas at the Second Chance Supper Club' is another Christmas cracker. This is book two in the 'Second Chance Supper Club' series but it can easily be read as a standalone.

This book focuses on Cath who is facing the prospect of her first Christmas alone after her divorce and decides to tackle the challenge of reinstating the old village hall to host a Christmas dinner for the elderly people in the village that may not have someone to celebrate with either. That plan keeps her busy but there are plenty of hurdles to get over in addition to coping with the prospect of a budding new romance too.

Overall this was a fabulous, festive read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others that enjoy a Christmas romance.

Thank you to NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book.

I was very excited to see the festive follow up to the Second Chance Supper Club, and I wasn't disappointed.
It picks up where it left off, with the Supper Club in the village of Tilldale.
As Christmas approaches, the friends decide to try and arrange a special lunch for the elderly and lonely in the local area, but with the village hall in disrepair, is it ever going to happen.
The book contains all the lovely characters from the first book, although it can be read as a stand alone, as it explains things as it goes along.
As Cath's first Christmas in the village approaches, moving there after her divorce, will it be a happy one as her budding romance with widowed Will falters.
A feel good read full of community, friendship, romance and hope - with a few tears of nostalgia along the way.
A fabulous festive read.

Christmas at the Second Chance Supper Club is a heart-warming follow-up that picks up right where the first book left off. I loved how the story gently carries us from autumn into the magic of winter, wrapping the community in festive warmth and seasonal change. The real heart of this book is the village community. The group trying to revive the community hall and rallying together to create a meaningful Christmas lunch.

The Supper Club continues to shine with its charming mix of characters, each bringing something special to the table. That said, I did find Cathy’s behaviour around her budding romance with Will a little too intense at times. Her emotional reactions felt somewhat teenager-like, especially given Will’s ongoing grief and the delicate situation with his daughter. Still, the emotional growth, small-town charm, and seasonal spirit make this a cosy and satisfying Christmas read full of second chances and heart.

I was so excited to receive an arc of this book after reading the first (The second chance supper club) We start the book at exactly the same place where our story ended in book 1…… the long awaited kiss. This second instalment was again a breath of fresh air. As a woman approaching 50, I could truly resonate with the FMC and all of her worries and insecurities. I desperately wanted her to find love again with Will and the backdrop of her friendship group is just beautiful. I appreciate the recipes at the end as well and I shall definitely be trying a few of them out. Crossing my fingers for another instalment of this series

Having read the first book in the series I couldn’t wait to read this book and jumped at the chance when I saw it was on Netgally.

This instalment of the supper club did not disappoint. Another fantastic read by Caroline and would definitely put you in the Christmas spirit

As it gets closer to Christmas Cath has the idea to organise a community dinner for elderly and people on their own and asks the other members of the supper club if they think it’s a good idea- which they all do. They start to organise where it’s being held and what they are going to do food wise. With the hall where the dinner is going to take place in disrepair will the supper club and friends get it all ship shape in time for the dinner?

Also we have the on-off relationship of Cath and Will. Will is a widow who is struggling with his grief, Cath has fallen for Will and is wondering if she will get her happy ever after.

To me, this was a slow burner, it took a while to get into (but that could have been due to being tired), however, once they started to get organising the turkey and tinsel lunch, I couldn’t put it down (hence writing this review so late). I am lucky enough to not know the grief that Will is experiencing *touch wood* but it felt authentic having the pendulum swing of emotions and thoughts, but I was always routing for Cath to get her happy every after.

I loved this book and the way it followed on from the first was brilliant. It felt like I'd finished a chapter and picked up the book again.
Well developed characters, a great storyline and hopefully the scene set for a further book.
How wonderful that Caroline included the reference to her earlier series, The Pudding Pantry,(which I'm sure was how many of us were introduced to her writing.
A perfect pre and post Christmas read.

A lovely, gentle Christmas read that has you looking forward to those crisp winter days. It was great to catch up with the cast of characters from the first book and see how life in the village was progressing. It makes you realise that there are still places left with community spirit and what impact that can have on people.

Writing style just simply not for me, filled with so much repetition and inane phrases that added easily 50 pages onto the book. I don’t need every last detail explained and repeated 1000x, it made me feel irritated, bored and stupid. You could skim 20 pages and the same carry on was happening.
