Elizabeth
My brother was getting married.
At Christmas no less.
The holiday I hated the most.
Let me list all the reasons why this will be the worst season yet:
One would be my luggage not arriving.
Two would be being told I had to find somewhere else to sleep since my room was occupied by family members.
Oh, and now I am forced to stay with my brother's best friend.
The man who broke my heart seven years ago.

Nate

My best friend was getting married.
I was happy for him.
Until I had to offer his sister my spare bedroom.
It'd be fine, two weeks and she'd be out of my hair.
But the thing with Elizabeth was that she pushed every single button I have.
She gets under my skin in the best ways.
All we have to do is survive the wedding and the holiday.
Then she'll be gone yet again.
Unless maybe, just maybe, my wish of having her comes true.

🎄✨ Wholesome Love Story… With One Christmas Joy Thief ✨🎄

📊 Ratings
• Story & Romance & Pacing: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
• Nate: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 💘
• Audiobook: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
• Elizabeth: ⭐★☆☆☆☆ / 5 → a.k.a. “The Human Grinch Who Stole All The Festive Vibes” 🎁🚫

💞 The love story? Adorable.
Two magnets, separated by oceans, pulled back together by fate and second-chance longing. The love story itself is wholesome and beautifully paced with tension, yearning, the whole warm-cocoa-in-your-chest thing. And the three fur babies deserve their own Hallmark contract. 🐶🐱🐱
🎅 It’s all set across three weeks of Christmas, so you’d expect snow-globe cosiness… but hold that thought.

🎧 Audiobook bits:
Jason Clarke understood the assignment: patient, loving, longing... He was a soothing perfection.
Samantha Cook, great voice, and well she did what she could, but honestly, Elizabeth gave her nothing nice to work with.

🚫 Elizabeth… another FMC I don’t want to be friends with...
Not just a Grinch but a toxic Grinch without a single compelling reason to ruin everyone’s holiday.
She tears down everything and everyone, constantly dishing out negative, passive-aggressive, and hurtful things without context or growth.
Page 1 → complaining.
Page 50 → complaining.
Page 300 → still complaining.
She ditched every event she could, ruined the ones she couldn’t, and rained on every single parade. 😒
She didn’t once show genuine happiness for her own brother. And everyone had to tiptoe around her like she was the Christmas bomb that might go off if anyone enjoyed themselves.
It’s hard to root for a romance when one half of the couple feels like they’d sue Santa for workplace cheer.

🔁 One more thing…..
This apparently new signature Natasha Madison habit of repeating the last paragraphs from the opposite POV…
Once? Dramatic.
Twice? Fine.
Eight times in 33 chapters? Please stop the madness. 🙃

💌 Overall:
Natasha Madison’s books always deliver found family warmth and cameos that make the heart full. The vibe wants to be comforting, festive, swoony… but Elizabeth’s relentless sour attitude and the shallow character depth on both sides kept pulling the tinsel off the tree…

🎁 Recommended if:
➤ You love the story archetype enough to forgive the FMC
➤ You’re here for Nate and the fur babies
➤ Your holiday spirit can survive a targeted attack 😅

Thank you, The Author Agency and Natasha Madison, for the ALC and ARC.

Second chance romance.
Enemies to lovers.
Force proximity.
Sweet.
Spicy.
Funny.
Adorable characters.

Elizabeth Morrow is a doctor living in Australia for the past 7 years, always working in the hospital ER night shift.
She hates Christmas!
She's going to the States, New York, where her family lives, for two weeks, to her brother Joshua 's wedding with Macy on Christmas Eve.
It isn't a smooth trip.
She has to run to cath both flights, they lost her bag, no one went to pick her up at the airport, she didn't have a warm coat, and when she arrives home her room was given away to one of the guests.
She has nowhere to stay!
Nate, his brother's hot best friend, offers her his spare room which she doesn't want to accept because they spent one night together and then he ghosted her when she left to study abroad and didn't tell him!

After his parents died in a car accident he was kind of adopted by the Morrows.
A 4th son!
But she has no choice.
So she stays in Nate's spare room, one of his cats always sleeping in her pillow.
Nate, now a veterinarian, has his on clinic and 3 kids: 2 cats and a dog!
The banter between them is delirious funny.
She's always teasing and provoking him and also her brother Joshua!

Before the wedding there's a week of events, and at the gingerbread house one, Nate accidently destroys her house and she smashes his, and her mother orders her, like a small kid, to go and clean herself at the bathroom.
He follows and they kiss hungry an wild.
They never forgot that one night.
At his home they tallk about it and realise they both thought the other one had left and then ghosted each other.
What a misunderstanding!!
For the past seven years both thought the other person was wrong!

So they had to recover on the lost time with long spicy nights together, while continuing to pretend they hate each other but decided to make a truce for the sake of the wedding!
They've been in love since forever: Elizabeth 15 years-old and Nate 19 years-old!
They're so cute and sweet together!

And what happens now?
Nate can't do long distance after the week they had and Elizabeth has a life down under.
Will they both be heart broken and hurting all over again?

🎄Holiday Romance
🎄Second Chance Romance-ish
🎄Brother’s Best Friend
🎄Forced Proximity
🎄Jealous MMC

this was the perfect holiday romance. I simply devoured it in one sitting. between the grumpy FMC, Elizabeth, and the odd dynamic she shared with the MMC, I honestly couldn’t put the book down until I fully understood why she hated him so much. the revelation came earlier than I expected and, somehow, broke my heart but the palpable tension between them made me forget Nate’s past mistakes and root for them completely.

It’s the perfect read for anyone looking for a banter-filled story that beautifully balances emotionally charged characters and a few toe-curling scenes.

many thanks to the author and The Author Agency for the eARC

Holiday Unscripted was a delightful story, I could not read it fast enough.

Elizabeth came back home for his brother's wedding. Unfortunately, after a long terrible flight her parents tell her that they don't have a room for her, so she has to live with Nate, his brother best friend and the guy that broke her heart years before. At the beginning the new accomodation upsets them, but living together they realize that they are still deeply attracted to each other, so things become steamy pretty soon.

Elizabeth and Nate are perfect for one another. It was such a pleasure to follow their sweet, funny and emotional journey.

A second chance at love during Christmas time perfectly written by Natasha Madison.
Now I'm ready for her next book already.

💬 tldr thoughts: hilarious but heartfelt christmas book!

In the package:
📦 black cat x golden retriever
📦 it's always been you
📦 brother's best friend
📦 second chance
📦 forced proximity

Plot: Elizabeth's brother is having a Christmas wedding and she comes home from Australia for the wedding festivities. Only to realize she has to stay with her brother's best friend, whom she spend a night with, 7 years ago. She hates Christmas and he's also the last person she wants to see, and she's not afraid to make it known.

Thoughts: This is my favourite Christmas read this year, so far! The FMC in this book was absolutely HILARIOUS. I found myself laughing out loud several times, omg. She was so quick with witty and sarcastic replies. I want to be besties with her. There was miscommunication between the MMC and FMC, but I wasn't insanely bothered by it in this book.

I need this to be turned into a movie just so I can see the gingerbread competition scene come to life 😩 This book was just so FUN. I loved the dynamic between the family, the holiday activities and Elizabeth's banter with Nate. Their chemistry was INSANE 🔥 She's a tough cookie but he's the only one who can handle her sass and attitude. While this was also fun, there's a heartfelt story about forgiveness and rediscovering what home means 🥹

I am in the holly jolly spirit already 🎅🏻🤣

Unlike our FMC Elizabeth.
Who is the grinch here in the grumpy x sunshine situation.

Our MMC Nate is the cinnamon roll with the golden retriever. Oh and rescue cats.
He’s a vet by profession. The hot vet.

Elizabeth is a doctor… in Australia.
Home for the holiday/ her brothers wedding.
He’s her brother best friend / best man.
One night stand
second chance

I loved the banter in this book. I loved Elizabeth’s one liners and snarky sarcastic personality.

Forced proximity situation.

This was fun, I had a good time.
Solid plot to spice ratio.

I actually enjoyed this one. I've been in this world Natasha Madison has created from the beginning, and I love that we are always seeing them.

Knowing these characters, I get what Elizabeth's mom was doing pushing her and Nate together. IT was sneaky, but so on par with this family.

I actually enjoyed Elizabeth's snark. It fit the dynamic that was going on between the siblings. I think what I didn't like the most in this book was the obvious lack of communication between her and Nate 7 years prior. Although, I guess if they had actually talked, we wouldn't have had the book.

I also wasn't a huge fan of the ending. I wanted more of them together. I wanted the normal epilogue with another bonus epilogue showing them further in the future. I hate that we didn't get it with this one.

What a fun Christmas novel! But also a wedding novel too.

Elizabeth has been living in Australia for years, much to the chagrin of her family. So when her brothers wedding is on Christmas Eve, she's going to be flying back. Except when she arrives home, it's to no bed, no luggage. And her brothers best man is offering her a place to sleep at his house.

What no one knows is that before she left, the two of them were involved for one night. And it didn't end happily. It ended with them not talking to each other for years.

And it's not just Elizabeth staying at his house. She and Nate have to go to all of the wedding events (which I think is just cute mini bachelor/ette events) and with each one Elizabeth is just dying ready for the wedding to be over. Mix in a holiday she hates...

Nates is a great guy. He's the calm (sometimes) to Elizabeth's wildness. She's very, very funny. Petty always wants to win with a very sharp tongue. She doesn't let anyone get away with anything. Not her parents, brothers, or Nate.

Was what happened years ago the end? A mistake? Misunderstanding?

I laughed a lot with this one!

This one was just ok for me.. I love a good Christmas read and was super excited for this one but the FMC started getting on my nerves pretty quickly! I just feel like she acted super childish most of the time. I loved the MMC though and I think he’s what got me to finish up the book!

I’ll definitely be giving Natasha another chance though because I loved the other book I read by her just wasn’t a huge fan of this one!

Elizabeth’s back home for her brother’s wedding, and the last person she wants to see is Nate—her brother’s best friend and her one night stand turned nemesis. Forced proximity + holiday chaos = sparks flying everywhere. The banter? Top tier. The chemistry? Off the charts. It’s festive without being over the top so it’s perfect for easing into your holiday reads. Funny, sexy, flirty, and full of tension in all the best ways.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sadly, I actually bought the audiobook.
DNF at chapter 8 out of 33.

Plot- Second chance, forced proximity premise. This was so promising!!

Characters- FMC had a chip on her shoulder and complained constantly. She brought a cloud of sarcasm, brattiness, and “I’m a victim” attitude everywhere she went. She was extremely self centered and a complete snot. Let’s just say I wouldn’t want her raining on my wedding, much less have to be around her all the time. She made everyone walk on eggshells.
Reviewers said she never changed. (Yes, I did research bc I couldn’t stand her.)
The MMC was cool. I liked him.

Romance- Good chemistry. They are definitely in lust. I just can’t comprehend WHY he’d want to be around someone with such a sour personality, or what he actually likes about her besides her hot body.

Writing - Good, but way too many f-words. So jarring!

Content-

Language- So. Many. F-words. 185 to be exact. There are only 290 pages in the book. That’s two f-words for every 3 pages.
Spice- There’s going to be an explicit sex scene, or two+. They have flashbacks from their hookup 7 years ago, and just those fleeting memories are descriptive. Other raunchy tidbits sprinkled throughout.
Violence- no
Substance abuse- social drinking.
Spiritual/religious- no
Cover- fine (I like the artistic rendering of the girl but not the guy)
POV- dual POV between FMC and MMC, 1st person
Cliffhanger- no
Format- audiobook via Audible
Narration- Great

Hallmark movie in written form

I would probably give this 2.5 stars if I could because the basic idea of the story wasn't terrible and if you really like Hallmark movies, then you might like this book better than I did. However, my biggest complaint is how the author told this story like she was trying to verbally describe it to a blind person. Every miniscule detail was mentioned. For instance, the FMC "walk toward the Christmas tree and stopped in front of it. She bent down and picked up a present wrapped in green Christmas paper. She turned around and walked back toward the couch. She stopped in front of the MMC and handed him the present." The entire story was written this way and it was beyond cumbersome to read. I also just couldn't connect with the FMC. She kept saying how she "had a life in Australia and just couldn't leave it", but would then promptly think to herself how she didn't have much of a life there, only a job; but yet, she "couldn't possibly" return home to the town she grew up in, where her very large, very close, extended family lived and wanted her to return to. It was overall a very frustrating book book to read. I won't be reading anything else by this author.

What to Expect:

- Enemies to Lovers
- Black Cat FMC
- ER Doctor FMC + Vet MMC
- Forced Proximity
- Second Chance
- It’s Always Been You
- Dual POV

My Thoughts:
I had so much fun with this cute holiday romance. Elizabeth, a doctor in Australia, makes a trip home for her brother's Christmas wedding. The trip was a disaster from the start. Her flight was long, her luggage got lost, her parents forgot to pick her up from the airport, and her hotel ended up flooding. Making matters worse, her parents gave her room to other wedding guests, leaving her with no place to stay. Enter Nate. He is her brother's best friend and the man who broke her heart after an unforgettable night seven years ago. Unfortunately for Elizabeth, Nate is the only person with an extra room. What happens next? Chaos. Pure enemies-to-lovers chaos.

I loved Elizabeth and Nate together. They had such amazing chemistry, and it was clear neither of them truly moved on. These two were complete opposites, but they fit so well together. Elizabeth is hilariously sarcastic and grumpy. Nate is super sweet, warm, and swoony. Their teasing and competitive banter were so fun. As they dealt with wedding chaos, holiday shenanigans, and a few hilarious pet moments, they were finally forced to confront what really happened between them. I loved watching them work through their feelings and finally decide to choose each other. Elizabeth and Nate were a great match, and it was impossible not to root for them.

Narration:
The audiobook, narrated by Samantha Cook and Jason Clarke, was a really good time. They were the perfect voices for Elizabeth and Nate, and perfectly captured the characters' personalities. Samantha and Jason brought the emotion, humor, banter, and the heat. This was such a fun listen, and I highly recommend enjoying this book in audio.

Thanks to Natasha Madison and One Night Stand Studios for the review opportunity. Opinions expressed are my own.

“I know nothing good can come from this. I also know I will throat punch anyone who comes in and tries to stop us.”

Oh my goodness, the banter between Elizabeth and Nate was an absolute blast to read. From the very beginning, their back-and-forth felt sharp, relentless, and genuinely fun, and I loved watching them take shot after shot at one another. That banter did so much of the heavy lifting in this book, especially when it came to building tension and chemistry. Even when they were clearly at odds, there was never any doubt that something more was simmering just beneath the surface.

“I’m thinking you shouldn’t be poking the bear when the bear is holding a saw in her hand.”

That said, miscommunication (or more accurately, a lack of communication) played a major role in the story, which isn’t typically my favorite trope. However, I’ll give credit where it’s due: Natasha Madison handled it well. It didn’t feel sloppy or purely manufactured for drama, even if it still made me want to shake the characters at times. Elizabeth, in particular, was a complicated FMC for me. Her dramatics were often entertaining and added humor to the story, but there were moments where they crossed into frustrating territory. At times, her reactions felt more in line with a teenager than someone her age, especially when she repeatedly threw the same grievances in people’s faces or tried to guilt them into feeling bad. Those moments made her come across as entitled and childish, which definitely diminished my enjoyment of her character. There were more than a few instances where I wanted to throttle her for not thinking before she spoke, or for how she chose to speak to certain people.

“It’s always been you. It’s always going to be you.”
“It better f*cking always be me.”

Nate, on the other hand, deserved some sort of medal for his patience. Truly. I don’t know how he kept his cool as often as he did, but his ability to put up with Elizabeth’s dramatics without completely losing his mind made him incredibly endearing. Their chemistry was undeniable, and I loved how the tension born from their banter and animosity translated seamlessly into their physical relationship. It felt natural, earned, and satisfying, rather than abrupt or forced.

“Don’t close those f*cking eyes Waited seven f*cking years to see those eyes again. Don’t f*cking close them.”

One of my favorite aspects of the book was how strongly the brother’s best friend trope was woven into the story. It wasn’t just a throwaway detail; it was present in nearly every interaction between Elizabeth and Nate, especially when her brother was around. You could genuinely feel the history between them and tell that they’d grown up spending a lot of time together. The competitive family dynamic was another highlight for me. Watching Elizabeth’s brother and his wife in particular brought so much personality to the story, and as someone who also grew up in a competitive family, it made everything feel more relatable and fun. In the end, this was another quick, entertaining holiday read: full of banter, chemistry, and festive chaos. It definitely helped put me in the holiday spirit.

Oh my gosh, I had the BEST time with this book! This is such a perfect holiday romance that had me swooning, laughing and crying.

Elizabeth’s character is seriously such a riot. She is so witty and hilarious, some of the things she said had me giggling like crazy.

Nate is a dreamboat and the two of them together, truly- oil and water. Their banter is incredible and their love story is honestly so damn sweet.

I had such a great time listening to this book. I didn’t want it to end. A new favorite holiday romance for sure!

This is a fantastically fun brother’s-best-friend, enemies-to-lovers, close proximity romance with great chemistry, an irresistible hero, and plenty of family Christmas/wedding shenanigans. I loved it.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Zack and Denise (from Something So Unscripted). She is a doctor and has been living in Australia for seven years, and she’s flying home to the US for her older brother Joshua’s Christmas wedding. It very quickly becomes the trip from hell, culminating in the ultimate betrayal of her parents having no room for her to stay in their house, and she has to stay with Joshua’s best friend, Nate.

Nate and Elizabeth have known each other since they were kids, and Nate is pretty much a permanent fixture of the family. They crushed on each other wildly and spent one amazing night together which ended with heartbreak after they both mistakenly believed the other had ghosted them the morning after. They’ve never really had a conversation since then because Elizabeth moved to the other side of the world. Now she’s back and they’re having to exist in very close proximity while enduring ten painful days of festive wedding activities and bridal party bonding.

It's such a great set-up, and lots of fun as we dive on into the mayhem. There is a lot of character crossover from previous books in Natasha’s hockey dynasty, and I loved seeing so many of these characters again. But you can easily read this book as a standalone.

The real entertainment in this book comes from Nate and Elizabeth and their wicked chemistry. Elizabeth is snarky, hot-headed, argumentative and kind of obnoxious, so she’s reacting to everything in the extreme, and meanwhile Nate is a sweet and caring golden retriever with the patience of a saint. They know how to push each other’s buttons, and they bicker and banter constantly, and though there’s anger between them about the past, their attraction is still very much there. The sexual attention soon leads to wild angry sex, and when they finally start to open up to each other, things begin to change.

Their reconnection is a slow burn, but absolutely worth the wait. The emotion is there, and the romance is gorgeous, and I felt it all! But Elizabeth is only in town for a few weeks, and there are unresolved issues that need to be dealt with. It’s a great ride watching them figure it all out, and there is a beautifully happy ending that made me smile.

This is a really fun read. It’s funny and fast paced, steamy and romantic and I really enjoyed it.

4 stars.

I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook, and they are so good! Jason Clarke is always a fave. This is a great book to listen to.

• THOUGHTS:
Okay, I really liked everything about this story but the FMC. I liked her in the beginning, then by the time she actually got home for her brother's wedding, I slowly started disliking her. I completely understand what the author was doing with Elizabeth's character, but for me, it came across as bratty and not in a good way. I personally felt she was selfish and mean. Even though I am sure it was meant to come off as smart a*@y and witty. At times, it was funny, but at other times is when the bratty-ness set in, and I could not get past it. Nate and the family is what saved the book for me to at least say I was glad I read it and keeping me from giving up on it. Of course, I will continue reading Natasha's books her books are like warm hugs, and they make me happy. This book just fell flat for me, and I didnt like Elizabeth's personality.

Holiday Unscripted is a fun, spicy holiday romance with all the amazing banter between a black cat heroine and her brother's best friend.

Elizabeth has spent years working as a doctor in Australia. Now, she is heading home for the holidays for her brother's wedding. She is not in the holiday spirit, and her travel home turns into a disaster when they lose her luggage. To top it off, her parents have other family members staying in her room, and she has nowhere to stay. Until her brother's best friend Nate offers up his spare bedroom, to her horror.

Elizabeth and Nate had a one night stand that ended badly due to miscommunication, and they have been at odds ever since. Now, they are staying in the same house and forced to participate in a week of pre-wedding events.

I loved the chemistry, banter, and family in this. It was the perfect spicy romance for the holiday season.

I have to admit that I didn’t anticipate how funny this book was going to be when I started it. Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook are the perfect narrators for these characters! 🎧😍

Elizabeth is coming home from Australia for her brother’s wedding on Christmas. Did I mention she is a bit of a Grinch? That feels like an understatement with how much this woman dislikes all things merry and bright. Although Elizabeth is not a fan of Christmas it does start to feel like this trip is conspiring against her- lost luggage, no place to sleep and holiday-themed wedding festivities every day for a week straight. Nate is her brother’s best-friend and when she is in need of a place to stay he offers his spare bedroom for the week. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if they didn’t have so much history. What kind of history, you ask? You will have to read this one to find out because it is too good to spoil in a review.  Elizabeth and Nate’s banter is absolute perfection in this funny, enemies to lovers, brother’s best-friend, forced-proximity, memorable holiday romance.

I especially enjoyed the moments of banter between the two of them that had me laughing out loud, the moments of passion and tension that had me fanning my face and the moments of holiday joy that warmed my heart. There is truly something magical about decorating for the holidays, mistletoe kisses, tree farms, family gatherings and the chaos of Christmas that Natasha Madison brings to life with her writing in this book.

This book releases October 24th and I hope you’ll grab it to kick off the holiday season! ❤️

This one was a fun foray into the holiday season and gave us a great mix of family drama (the wedding activities for the FMCs brother were hilarious), banter and witty arguments, and of course, plenty of angst.

Holiday Romance
Black cat x golden retriever
Second chance
Brother’s best friend
Forced proximity

This is a heartwarming story with it’s always been you, and right person wrong time vibes. Elizabeth and Nate were fun to read and I enjoyed their story a lot. Natasha wove in favorite characters from her universe — including a glimpse at what’s to come (I hope!) and I loved that inclusion! If you’re ready for some fun Christmas reads, def check this out.

🎧Audio:
This was a dual narration by Jason Clarke & Samantha Cook, who both nailed their performances. Samantha brought the black cat sass of Elizabeth to life and Jason was the perfect golden retriever in Nate. This audio was great!!

Thank you, Natasha, for the ALC & ARC!

** Audio Review **
Obsessed! Holiday Unscripted by Natasha Madison was a fun, light-hearted holiday romance that had me giddy with damn delight from start to finish. I live for enemies-to-lovers tension, and Natasha delivered! I couldn’t get enough of Elizabeth and Nate’s “it’s always been you” mixed with second-chance chemistry that had me longing for these two to give in to their desires and go for it.

Samantha Cook and Jason Clarke perform this audiobook in dual narration. Their performances in this audiobook showcase how talented these two are, delivering various character voices that had me grinning. Samantha’s expressive, sensual tone conveyed Elizabeth’s grumpy, conflicted personality peeling back layers to reveal her softer, vulnerable side as she gave into her feelings for Nate. Jason’s warm, inviting timbre expertly portrayed Nate’s charisma and swoony persona, nailing the witty banter and tension-filled moments. Both narrators created an undeniable, magnetic chemistry between Elizabeth and Nate that simply made me melt.

Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a holiday romance with a guarded, sassy doctor, a charming, dedicated veterinarian, a brother’s best friend, coming home from Australia for your brother’s wedding, close proximity, wedding itineraries, karaoke night, tension-filled tree decorating, flashbacks to the past, heated gingerbread house competitions, steamy kisses, revealing truths about the past, second chances, Christmas weddings, spicy times, snowstorm intimate conversations, love declarations, and a HEA worth staying for, then you will love Elizabeth and Nate’s story. I always look forward to more from Natasha Madison

I’m so obsessed with Natasha’s writing and Holiday Unscripted was perfection! Nate and Elizabeth get thrown together because her brother is getting married Christmas Eve. Little does everyone know Nate and Elizabeth have unresolved history and it’ll all come to blows during their time forced together. I absolutely loved Elizabeth and how feisty and snarky she was to literally everyone. This was such a cute holiday romance book to kick off the Christmas season!!

Instantly hooked! 👏🏻 I said this before and I’ll say it again a million more times-Natasha Madison’s audiobooks are seriously the best! This was no exception! Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook are perfection together. BRAVO!

This one was one of the holiday releases I was super excited for this year. I just knew it would have amazing characters, banter, humor, and emotions all wrapped up in one. It’s exactly what I expected and needed and more!

Let’s start with Elizabeth who is the FMC. A doctor, adorable, and sweet soul. She is a Scrooge, but really for okay-ish reasons (we will cut her slack). She needs to travel home for her brother’s wedding that takes place on Christmas Eve. Like travel home to the states from Australia! Elizabeth’s brother and soon to be sister in law have plans everyday leading up to the wedding…too much for her.

Until…Nate, the MMC essentially saves her by keeping her very occupied (if you know what I mean). Elizabeth’s luggage is lost, she loses her hotel room due to a faulty pipe breaking, and then ends up staying with Nate himself. He’s upbeat and ready to take all of these wedding festivities on! BUT…Nate and Elizabeth have a past. Whomp. 7 years ago there was heartbreak between the two of them, and let’s just say a lot of miscommunication…

Their banter and connection are out of this world. They’re a lot of fun to listen to and read! ☺️ I loved the way their relationship played out and the epilogue at the end was icing on the cake!

Add this one to your holiday TBR…preferably the audio. 😉

*thank you to Natasha Madison for the ALC

Well then.

I'll start by say that for me, Elizabeth wasn't an easy character to like.

And it's got nothing to do with her bah humbug attitude about Christmas. I'm quite used to these sorts of stories where one character or the other hates all things Yule related.

No, the issue for me is that she's just not a very likeable person, in general. At least - this was my first impression. Let me explain.

It started with her foul attitude about having to attend her brother's wedding. We're TOLD, repeatedly, that she loves her family - but never once does she show it. She's always moaning about one to another or picking fights with them or arguing or issuing them guilt trips. Obviously none of them are perfect and they do make mistakes, but we're in Elizabeth's head the whole time and she shows zero remorse for the things she says and does to the people she supposedly loves.

Then, I began to notice a trend in the way she behaves that got on my last nerve. See. She's in the habit of exaggerating or telling these little lies that make her out to be the victim and others out to be some sort of criminal who committed some egregious wrong against her.

It's little things - little fibs - at first that COULD be funny, if they weren't happening EVERY time she's opening her mouth. But the way Nate and others have to correct the stories she tells EVERY single time got old and annoying very quickly. They're not all serious fibs. But they all have the same intention and the same result. To gain sympathy for Elizabeth and to malign whoever she's fibbing about to make them out to be insensitive or a jerk.

This behavior is not something I would tolerate in a CHILD, let alone a grown up adult woman who's a DOCTOR of all things.

When she's not lying to everybody around her for sympathy, she's bitching. About Nate, about the wedding, about her family, about how cold it is. About everything in the world.

If I were her parents or her brother (who is the one getting married), I'd have happily packed her ass back up and shipped her back to Australia 3 days into her stay in New York. Ain't nobody got time to deal with that bullshit. She can come back when she grows the fuck up and not a second before.

Thankfully she does evolve a little over the course of the story. About 50% of the way through, when she starts getting laid on the regular, I suppose Nate fucks the brat out of her. This would annoy me - because orgasms don't cause a person to change their WHOLE PERSONALITY over night, but given how I didn't really care for initial Elizabeth, I'll take it.

Then, we get to the spicy stuff. I'll give Madison this - there IS palpable chemistry between Nate and Elizabeth. However, the spicy scenes gave me an ick I didn't know I had.

In the span of about 2 pages, these two words get used so many times:

Cock - 17
Pussy - 8

In the span of just 10 or so (very short) paragraphs!

It really started to read like "Insert Tab A into Slot B". It didn't help that the first half of the scene is read in the female narrator's voice (before the chapter POV changes to the dude) and she reads like an automaton to begin with, zero passion. Just cock pussy cock pussy cock pussy. 🫤🫤

Are we fucking or putting furniture together? Asking for a friend.

It doesn't really get better in Nate's POV - so perhaps me bitching about the female narrator is harsh and inaccurate.

Because when he finishes the scene the count for his contribution is this:

Cock - 14
Pussy - 8

Again, this is after only about a page and a half of writing. In just 3 or 4 pages, I've been assaulted with 31 cocks and 16 pussies. And I'm not counting what they do in the shower almost immediately after that first session. 😒

It's just...there are other words. Please vary it up a bit. That's all I'm saying.

It obviously gets worse, because we get multiple spicy scenes. But I couldn't take it, it was just awkward reading it and I ended up skipping over them more than not.

Okay okay. So not ALL of this is awful. The pets are adorable. The family is great. When the two finally fall for each other, they're solid - there's no drama. And when Elizabeth finally decides to stay with Nate, to move back to the US, it's a very soft, very perfect moment between them. There's no 3rd act breakup. The Christmassy cheer does shine through after The Grinch starts getting laid.

Honestly I think the end of this redeemed itself enough to land this solidly in the middle of my rating system. it's a great little holiday read if you don't mind the things I moaned about.
