In the picturesque Irish village of Cloncastle, Sinead Long returns home after years in America to find that some secrets grow best in familiar soil. When she discovers her husband's affair with her old school rival Joan Brady, it seems like a simple case of infidelity - until Joan is found dead in her kitchen, and Sinead becomes the prime suspect. As whispers of the scandal and revenge ripple through the village, Sinead finds herself at the centre of the investigation. Determined to clear her name, Sinead must untangle a web of lies, hidden motives, and secrets that many hoped would remain buried.
With time of the essence, can she uncover the real killer before her fresh start back in the Emerald Isle becomes a permanent prison sentence?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 0🌶️ The book starts off with a bang when Sinead stumbles upon Joan, dead in her own home. Rewind to when Sinead and her husband Joe move back home to Ireland. A few weeks in she finds out he is cheating on her with her highschool nemesis. Sinead ends up being the Garda’s #1 murder suspect. So to clear her name so goes on an investigation herself. There are twists and turns along the way and another body found. This book keeps you thinking. Although, I did happen to figure out the end, I still really liked this book. It was not the obvious choice for a suspect. If you are looking for a great, cozy murder mystery pick this up! Bonus: it’s set in small town Ireland and the author Siobhan Purcell does a great job using the Irish lingo as well as setting the scene. Although this isn’t a new release, it is a new cover release! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
This is my first book by Ms. Purcell and I enjoyed it very much. It is extremely well written with lots of suspense and surprises. The mystery is quite exciting. We meet Sinead Long who has returned to her Irish home town after living many years in America. We meet her parents, her best friend Alice and many others in her town. She discovers that her husband of ten years has been cheating on her with a woman she despises. After catching them, she makes threatening comments in public. Her small town thrives on gossip and knowing everyone’s business. Sinead goes to the other woman’s house and discovers her dead body. She becomes the number one suspect and decides she must find the killer herself to make sure she isn’t charged with murder. This was a great mystery and a five star story.
The author Steve Higgs recommended in an email the author, Siobhan Purcell and I was not disappointed. A well written cozy and the main character, Sinead Long , is brought to life. Sinead returns to Western Ireland after 15 years in the USA. Her husband is very busy and successful businessman but while leaving her mother's house in the tiny village of Cloncastle she notices her husband's red porsche in the driveway of a former classmate, Joan Brady. She confronts her husband of the affair. Tension escalates and Sinead needs to prove her innocence in Joan's murder. You get the feel of small Irish village life and the Gardia. Well worthwhile.
Wonderful story! There were a few technical issues that got in the way, mostly punctuation missing or run-on sentences. But I love the story line and the twisty plot. Good first book.
Really fun cozy mystery. Set in small town Ireland and does very well to capture this in a very genuine way. Lots of twists and aha moments as the story came together. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
