Happily Haunted Afters #3

In the Autumn Spirit

Rate this book
The hot brewery owner says he’s here to help— but neither of us know how to deal with a poltergeist.

I can't believe my luck when I inherit a bookstore in the cute little town of New Hopewell. Except running a bookstore isn’t anything like what I'd imagined. Spend money to make money has never been in my thrifty vocabulary… and then there’s the lingering sense that something is very strange about all this.

It certainly helps that brawny brewery owner Aiden has appointed himself my own personal guide to New Hopewell and small-business mentor. But I can't get distracted, my to-do list gets longer every day. I’m starting to think the pressure’s getting to me when I wake from a nightmare and I am certain there’s someone in my room. Only when I turn the light on, it’s just me. Just when I’ve try to convince myself I’m not losing it, the little cat I inherited along with the place tells me I'm an idiot.

I didn't get this bookstore because have a long lost relative, but because I'm a witch. And my job isn’t just recommending stellar reads, nope, it’s to rid the cute bookstore from evil spirits which threaten the entire town.

Good thing I’ve got a sassy talking cat and a hot brewery owner to help— and maybe even a few witchy friends of my own.

This was so much fun! I remember when I read the ARC of A Ghost of a Chance back in 2023 while I was in California. I was sitting on the floor of the family I was visiting, reading while I waited to hear if the kids had properly fallen asleep. It was one of my favorite spooky reads ever and when I found out Brittany was releasing a third book in the series I was so excited.

This whole series revolves around witches and it’s frankly one of the most hilarious, entertaining and heartwarming series of books ever. This third one is about Sylvie Barlow who inherits a spooky bookstore in a small town in Texas. So she uproots her life to move and it’s there she’s welcomed by the town’s very own welcome committee consisting of only one man, Aiden McAllen. Aiden agrees to help her out with her new bookstore. He says it’s to boost the sales in his bar, The Salt Circle but he might have other interests, because the tension between these is firing up.

I loved how they both kept denying at the start there were anything happening between them. They were obviously so interested in each other from the very first meeting but the back and forth yearning is also just so good in a slow ish burn romance. And then when they finally caved in and kissed for the first time, it was so much better.

I loved the whole element of these women finding out they’re witches and I certainly loved it even more in this book because of Prudence the cat aka Sylvie’s familiar. Prudence was literally the star of the show and soooooo hilarious and sassy. It kinda reminded me of another black cat… Salem from Sabrina The Teenage Witch! Obsessed truly.

Thank you Brittany for my ARC!

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

If you’re craving the perfect blend of witchy magic, small-town charm, and slow-burn romance, The Autumn Spiritwill absolutely enchant you.

When our heroine unexpectedly inherits a bookstore in the cozy town of New Hopewell, she thinks her biggest challenge will be learning to run a small business. But it quickly becomes clear that her new store—and the town itself—are hiding more than just dusty old books. A talking cat, a lurking poltergeist, and a grumpy-yet-golden brewery owner named Aiden make her new life anything but ordinary.

Between eerie late-night encounters, sarcastic feline commentary, and undeniable chemistry with Aiden, the story strikes that just-right balance of spooky, romantic, and heartwarming. It’s got Gilmore Girls vibes with a magical twist — perfect for curling up with a blanket, pumpkin spice latte in hand, and letting autumn take over.

💭 Tropes:
🍁 Small-town romance
✨ Grumpy/sunshine
📖 Bookstore owner
🐈 Talking cat familiar
🧙‍♀️ Hidden witch heritage
💞 Forced proximity
👻 Light paranormal romance

The Autumn Spirit is an irresistible fall read filled with wit, warmth, and a little bit of witchcraft. The perfect cozy fantasy romance for anyone who loves their magic with a side of cinnamon and charm. 🍂💫

What a silly but cute Halloween treat!

Sylvie inherits a spooky bookstore and uproots her whole life to a small town in Texas. There she meets new friends, a man, a cat, and some spooky residents of her shop. I know this was a novella and intended to be short and sweet. So for what it was, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I just wished we got more. I felt like Sylvie was a great character with lots of personality, but I would’ve loved to get to know her more and really connect with her. I didn’t think the overall story made much sense but mostly because we didn’t get time to delve into the nitty gritty or logical reasonings for things. However, Sylvie was a treat with lots of tricks. And I can say the same for Aiden. He seemed so sweet and logical but really just threw things out the window when he met Sylvie and was awestruck. I loved them a bunch but I wanted more of them!

There is a lot here in this story that’s perfect for the Halloween season. We got ghosts, costumes, black cats, witches, haunted buildings, potions, cauldrons, and spells! There were many hijinx, funny lines, silly characters, and lots of fun! Overall, a great start short story to get you in the mood 👻

📚✨Book Review✨📚

In the Autumn Spirit
Author: Brittany Kelley

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Notes: I received a copy of this book as an advanced reader, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

What I Liked:
👻 A short, sweet, cozy read with one spicy scene. What a delightful treat!

👻I FLEW through this book at lightning speed. I probably could have read it in one sitting. I loved the chemistry between Aiden and Sylvia. Plus Prudence was a blast!

What I Didn’t Like:
👻 I wish it was longer and the plot was a bit more intricate. Everything felt a little rushed.

👻I’m upset without myself for not reading this series from the start. I will immediately be rectifying that, but don’t make my mistake. Start with book 1!

Final Thoughts:
👻As a fan of Brittany Kelley, this book was so fun with some light spooky moments. Nothing too scary. Definitely recommend!

“I think that’s part of the fun of it. You don’t have to get used to it. Life’s a lot more fun with a little bit of the unexpected.”

*This book was given to me for free as an ARC in exchange for a review but all thoughts and opinions are my own*

Before, I really start this review I want to take a moment to thank Brittany Kelley for this ARC! I’ve been a fan for a few years now, and it’s been incredible seeing her get traditionally published, while still being able to review her books. Now onto your regularly scheduled review:

🐈‍⬛ 🍂 👻 🔮 📚

After getting a mysterious bookshop inheritance and moving to New Hopewell, Sylvie must navigate the super natural for the first time. With the help of a cute sidekick and guy of course 😉

Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book! I’m still not super used to the pacing of novellas but Kelley made it extremely easy to follow and entertaining!! This is such a fun, funny, cozy fall read. Perfect for when you want something short and sweet and love a little magic in your books!

I received a copy of this for my honest review

Our FMC just lost her job as a librarian, but also got a letter stating she has inherited a bookstore - so win? She moves to a new small town to take over where she meets our MMC, already inside her house. Our MMC is part owner of a local brewery and part of the town welcome committee and is bringing her some supplies when she walks in on him. He is meant to leave immediately, but instead offers to help her with the store. As she tries to settle in more, she finds that there are some more players to this game, a cat that comes with the house. who may or may not talk, and ghosts that she needs to get rid of. Oh that's right, she also learns she inherited this store because she is a witch.... totally normal.

Thank you so much Brittany for this ARC! 🫶🏻
I just love a spooky fall romance 👻🍂

Sylvie finds out she’s inherited a bookstore in a small town. When she moves to the magical new place, she notices there’s definitely something going on. She also meets her new neighbor, Aiden, who wants to help her settle in. As he helps her get her new bookstore up and running, they can’t help but feel the attraction.

The bookstore and the town becomes increasingly haunted! Sylvie and her black cat side kick have to fix the problem with some help!

This is a quick read with all the spooky vibes! I don’t want to spoil anything! I honestly would’ve loved for it to be even longer!

A cute witchy read following Sylvia and Aiden in a dual POV story. Sylvia gets a mysterious letter in the mail telling her she inherited a bookstore after she packs up and goes to this small town, she meets Aiden. And along the way she meets unlikely guests.. ghosts that have haunted the bookstore and a talking cat. A quick read in an interconnected standalone series. Good for the Halloween time of year!

I actually did not like this. It was focused a little too much on the magic and not on the romance but even that wasn't done well. It also took place over about 3 days and then had a random two week jump and was over. I get that it's a novella but it could be better.

I received an arc from the author.

This is my favorite book in the series. Book nerd MFC? Check. Invested MMC? Check. Talking cat? Check. All the checks I never knew I needed in a book. In the last couple chapters, it gave Practical Magic vibes, which is a plus. Reading about New Hopeful and the spooky happenings, along with the blooming romances, has been a sweet break from my TBR challenge.

un libro corto pero que estuvo entretenido, en algunos casos tenía que devolverme porque sentía que me estaba perdiendo de algo el final fue todo muy rápido pero para ser una historia corta se vale, como dije entretenido para leer en Halloween.

This is such a cute spooky and fun novella for fall. It puts you in the spirit, I want fall leaves and cold weather & possibly a beer flight with fried pickles. Sylvie inherits a bookstore in a small town and from the moment she arrives Aiden, is drawn to her. The inside of Sylvie's head and inner gasps and comments are hilarious.

We get some ghosts, witches, a talking cat with an attitude and a whole lot more. I enjoyed this quick read, and you will too.

If Brittany Kelley writes it… I’ll read it and I know
I’m in for an enjoyable time! Our FMC was so quirky and hilarious… add in a blunt talking cat and you know you’ll love this book! I love that our MMC finds our FMC’s quirkiness attractive and a positive from the moment he meets her. This was the perfect fall read that paired perfectly with this time of year! I’d definitely recommend!

ARC review in exchange for my honest opinion Cute and fun romantic comedy to get into the fall/Halloween spirit. Some of the spicy parts feel so out of place in romantic comedies like these
