The Big Ball of String

Rate this book
A big, green ball of string becomes a most unusual soccer ball in this imaginative picture book. Interested in playing soccer but lacking a ball, George makes do with a big ball of string. Rhythmic, read-aloud text describes George's dribbling adventures around town—from his home to main street, to the park and back again. Charming watercolor illustrations trace George's fun with his makeshift toy as the bright green string unravels while he plays. As children follow George's sporting fun, they will be encouraged to see ordinary household objects in new ways.

George has a big ball of string that he really wants to kick around. George ends up kicking it all around town as his mother wouldn't let him kick it inside.

This story was cute and the illustrations were gorgeous. Very predictable.

Playing soccer with a ball of string. Lots of rolling would make a interesting book for a movement storytime, but the pictures are a little too subtle for a group read-aloud.
