God’s plan is never a surprise. In Daniel, we learn that even if revealed to unbelievers, that his plan continues as intended. We also learn that God’s intentions never fail. This is important because to follow God’s plan it is necessary for it to be revealed so that the believer is not lost with changes. Scholars have often called the timeline in Daniel, “Daniel’s 70 weeks.” The 70 weeks should actually be called Gabriel’s 70 weeks. The angel Gabriel reveals to Daniel the timeline which includes 70 weeks of time, Daniel explains that there are 70 weeks left in which God will deal with the Israelites. Also revealed in Gabriel’s 70 weeks is the time of the arrival of the Messiah. Many have attributed the arrival of the Three Kings of the East to the birth of the Messiah with Daniel teaching scholars of Persia. Although Daniel does not use astronomy in his book, the Wise Men of the East were called magi in their language. Explaining to these magi the arrival of the Messiah would’ve been easily understood if it was tied to an astronomical event. In this commentary we will learn about the astronomical event as well as the time sequences from Daniel’s time to the Messiah.
