Saving the Lodge

Rate this book
She's a city girl who never turns down a spa day. He's a rugged trail guide who lives off the grid. And now they have to run a lodge together.

After losing her job at a corporate marketing firm, Kate Thompson gets an unexpected gift from her late half ownership of Pine Ridge Lodge in Hocking Hills, Ohio. She's in desperate need of fresh start, even if it means leaving behind her favorite coffee shops and warm weather.

What she doesn't know is that her aunt left the other half to Hunter, the lodge's gorgeous but grumpy trail guide. He's a local legend known for living in a solar-powered cabin and refusing to use the internet.

But there's a catch. They only have 90 days to hit a certain amount of bookings, or the inheritance gets passed on to someone neither of them know.

Kate wants to transform the rustic lodge into a luxury retreat with spa treatments and wine tastings. Hunter thinks it should stay a simple hiking haven with campfire stories and starlit walks. They couldn't be more different, but they're stuck with each other.

As they argue over every detail, from installing WiFi to keeping Hunter's muddy boots off the clean floors, something unexpected happens. Kate discovers the magic of morning hikes through misty forests, while Hunter realizes that maybe some changes aren't so bad... especially when they involve a Florida girl who's finally getting better at walking in hiking boots.

But just as they start to meet in the middle, things start to happen threatens to ruin everything they've been working towards. Now they must decide if they can trust each other enough to save the lodge... a place that now feels like home.

Saving the Lodge by Sage Parker isn’t just a small-town romance—it's a tender, tension-filled story about trust, reinvention, and what happens when two people who want the same future must untangle the lies of the past to get there. Heartfelt, atmospheric, and brimming with slow-burn sparks, this book wraps you in lodge-side warmth while keeping your pulse racing with drama you never see coming.

Kate and Hunter have finally hit their rhythm. After a rocky start, they’re beginning to function as something resembling partners. Kate’s marketing magic is giving the lodge a fresh online heartbeat, and Hunter—gruff, grounded, and set in his rustic ways—is actually listening. They’re rebuilding more than a business… they’re rebuilding trust.

So when Kate plans a Thanksgiving dinner to honor their staff, celebrate progress, and bring warmth into a lodge still finding its footing, it feels like their hard work is finally paying off. The prep is seamless. The teamwork is real. The sparks between them are starting to settle into something that feels dangerously close to hope.

But Thanksgiving disaster is only the first tremor.
Because at Pine Ridge Lodge, sabotage isn’t the only thing simmering. Motives blur. Secrets twist. And the deeper Kate digs, the more she wonders whether she’s uncovering betrayal… or becoming a pawn in someone else’s game entirely.

✨ Why Readers Will Love This Story:

A grumpy mountain man and a sunshine city girl forced to share a dream neither expected

A slow-burn romance laced with tension, banter, and undeniable chemistry

A Thanksgiving scene full of emotional gut-punches and secrets exploding like firecrackers

A meddling ex with murky motives and impeccable timing

Cozy lodge vibes, wilderness charm, and heart-tugging character growth

A mystery twisting beneath the romance—one that threatens everything they’re building

Saving the Lodge is about more than sabotaged dinners and shared ownership. It’s about trust—how fragile it is, how hard it is to earn, and how fiercely it must be fought for when the truth turns dark. Parker crafts a story that feels deeply human, painting Kate and Hunter as two people who want the same home, the same future… but must first reckon with the ghosts that haunt it.

Kate is feeling better about working with Hunter. They are working on a plan to get more guests at the lodge. Hunter seems to be taking Kate's suggestions and allowing her to change the website for the better. Kate has been thinking about doing a Thanksgiving dinner for the staff that has been hired back casual at the lodge. Hunter and Kate work together to get the dinner planned and cooked. . Kate is in charge of the side dishes and Hunter the turkey. The guests are starting to arrive and soon they sit down to dinner and something strange starts to happen when they all start to eat. All of the side dishes are on the salty side. Kate is so upset she heads into the kitchen to check the salt and sugar containers to see if they were switched. She finds out that her worst nightmare is true. The sugar/salt was switched. Farrah follows Kate into the kitchen and mentions to her that when her aunt was alive Hunter was trying to convince her that the lodge should be left only to him since he has worked there for years and took care of things. He was very upset that Kate was going to be involved in being part ownership of the lodge. Hunter then walks into the kitchen and Kate confronts him, all the color drains from his face and at this moment Kate knows that he sabotaged the dinner. Kate is furious at this exact moment. I can't wait to see where this story goes next...

Hunter greets Kate as she returns from a two day drive from Florida back to the lodge she and Hunter have jointly inherited from her Aunt Lori. That’s if they can turn the lodge in the right direction and increase their bookings and thus income for the next 90 days. Quite a chore anytime to do something that rapidly, but especially in the cold winter months which they are facing. There is so little they agree on, how are they going to accomplish this, especially without help? Just as they begin to accept some ideas from each other, enter Hunter’s ex, Farrah who is included in their Thanksgiving dinner for previous employees. A few strange things happen during their dinner that causes more stress, undermining the positive vibes that had begun to emerge between Kate and Hunter. Cliff hanger after the argument that occurs between them.

This is the second book in the Holidays in Hocking Hills collection, it follows up on the first book, but there is enough in the first chapters to read it on its own. IN this book, we see how Hunter (the hot trail guide and part owner of the inn) is more amicable to sharing the inn, its keep, and responsibilities with Kate as she tries to bring a bit of new technology to the inn. As they get working together, they also are getting to know each other, but his ex girlfriend's timing is always on point.

BUt as they start to see their work's results, they want to celebrate them with a Thanksgivng feast for the staff, well the mysterty and secrets of the lodge continue to create obstacles, and leave this book in a cliffhanger,

Be ready to see how a city girl learns to fit in a small town setting, manual labor, and to deal with her grumpy partner.

Thanksgiving or Trick or Treat?

Thanksgiving is a time for friends and family to gather around the table, have a good meal and enjoy being together. All is going well… that is until the scrumptious feast that was planned turns out to be anything but scrumptious. Seems like there may be some sabotage in the making, and not just with the dinner. Yes, it’s pretty clear that someone switched the salt and sugar containers. Now the all those side dishes Kate slaved over is, let’s say, somewhat less than perfect.

But it doesn’t stop there. Remember Farrah, Hunter’s ex? She’s proving to be a real trouble maker, doing her best to arouse conflict between Hunter and Kate? Just what is Farrah really up to? Does she have ulterior motives? Guess we’ll get more clues as the book continues.

When your Aunt passes away and leaves her lodge to you and the lodge's grumpy trail guide, with the stipulation that they have 90 days to turnaround the amount of bookings, or lose the inheritance. What are you supposed to do?

Between the arguments over WiFi and keeping Hunter's muddy boots off the clean floors, feelings start to develop between the two. I loved book two of this series, Kate and Hunter have two completely different ideas of what they want the lodge to be, but will they be able to get past their differences in order to keep the lodge going? Sage is amazing, each of her books I read transports me into a world that's completely different and makes me wish I could live in the lodge. Book 3 is next on my TBR and I can't wait to see how Kate and Hunter's relationship progresses.

Now that Kate is back at the Inn, she and Hunter can begin to make plans that will help them meet Aunt Lori's wishes per her will. Since both have different ideas on how to bring guests and revenues back to the Inn, we can prepare ourselves for the constant bickering. After they start getting into a comfortable rhythm, things start to unravel. It is not a good story if there aren't bad apples and Farrah is one bad apple with a whole lot of chaos. I wonder how long it will take for Kate and Hunter to realize that all the wrong doings at the Inn are connected to Farrah because she apparently wants them to lose the Inn. As usual, Sage has a way with writing. All her series are fantastic and engaging. This one has my attention, and I cannot wait to see how this series pans out!

Well Hunter certainly has had a change of heart and is more agreeable with the recommendations that Kate has made. They have finally found a way to co-exist and run the lodge together and put in place some very workable changes. And what about Miss Farrah making accusations about Kate and her relationship with her aunt. I wonder what her angle is and if she is the mysterious benefactor if the Kate and Hunter fail in their task to improve the numbers at the lodge. And who on earth has sabotaged their thanksgiving dinner? I have my ideas but I just need to keep reading to see if I am on track with my suspicions. Bring on the next book please!

Quite the test of trust Kate and Hunter must achieve in 3 months.
As two strangers, they need to learn to trust each other. The process is slow and fragile. One wrong step and they're back to arguing, but eventually, they come to an understanding. They have problems with miscommunication on their own; there's no need to fuel it.
Don't know what her aunt thought, involving her ex-employer, who's also Hunter's ex-girlfriend, in the lodge inheritance business. It's a conflict of interest. I can imagine many reasons to not trust her "kindness".
No honor, loyalty one has if willing to harm or sabotage for money.
I like the idea of the Thanksgiving meal they had, not the outcome.

Kate and Hunter are trying to make their situation as pleasant as they can considering Lodge and the future is up in the air.
Everything is turning out being headed in the right direction until Thanksgiving Day happens. No one expects the dinner to hold the secrets that are being kept to change the direction of the day it does. Or are things really what they appear to be or does someone have a mean streak in them.
I cannot wait for the next book to come out and fill in the blanks of who wants what and why. The cliffhanger will be on my mind until then.

chosen family and celebrating holidays with them can be liberating - or not.

chaotic accidents can become fun adventures in surviving them, and in their re-telling.

deliberate sabotage though, it's harder.

will fledgling trust be crushed?

jealousy can be killing.

in ny experience, few folks can stab your heart or spill your dirt more viciously than those who once stood by you when you were in the thick of other troubles or past drama

rough roads might be ahead for this partnership.

“Saving the Lodge Book 2” by Sage Parker

-The story continues… I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Kate and Hunter’s partnership hits a boiling point when Thanksgiving turns from cozy to catastrophic. Sabotage, jealousy, and whispered secrets cast doubt on every good intention at the lodge. The tension between them grows as trust wavers and old ties stir fresh trouble.

A suspense-laced holiday cliffhanger that leaves you eager for the next chapter in their fight to save the lodge.

As Hunter and Kate learn how to deal with each other more questions arise. I like their personalities and caution behaviors. You can tell that there is an attraction but their guard is up especially considering the position they are in. As usual a Sage Parker book has to have a character that makes you go hmmmm, that is Farrah. I am anxiously waiting to see how all this plays out. Next book hurry up so I can feed my curiosity!

This Booksprout ARC provides more questions.

The first book started a little slow. Getting to know new people is not easy, but especially hard if one person is hard to get along with. This second book found the good and the bad between them. They were just learning, or so Kate thought to get along and work together. Thanksgiving comes and things feel more relaxed and easy going until they sit down and begin eating. Something isn’t right with the side dishes. Kate is super upset and there always is that one person who tries pointing the finger at another person.

First steps!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as Kate returns to the lodge and commits to working with Hunter to try to save the lodge.  Differences of opinion on the way forward are evident and emotions run high.  The ending is another cliff hanger and leaves me anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

Saving the Lodge, Book 2, finds Kate and Hunter learning to trust each other and improve their working relationship as partners as they strive to make the lodge successful again. Farrah, Hunter's ex, is making allegations about him as if to undermine Kate's trust in their working relationship. Thanksgiving tests their partnership of one another. The book ends in a cliffhanger.

The story continues with our two strong lead characters. One of them a grumpy trail guide who has to work with the strong female character to try to save the lodge. There is plenty of interesting and entertaining banter between the two of them because they can't seem to agree on anything. Makes for interesting reading.

Kate goes back to Florida to get her things for the required time at the lodge. She and Hunter develop a good working relationship until Thanksgiving when his ex-Farrah convinces her that he is sabotaging her and wanted her aunt to keep her from the will. Is Farrah the issue or is Hunter not being honest? I received an advanced reader copy of this book from Booksprout, and this is my honest review.

Enjoyed Reading

I am enjoying reading this series. Hunter and Kate has a long way to go to keep the lodge. Just hope that Farrah doesn’t have anything to do to stop them. But with a cliffhanger you have to wonder what will happen
