Pineapple Man

Rate this book
Pineapple Man is set on a Greek island between 1910 and 1983. The plot has various strands, the central one of which is Jack’s desire to learn more about the ‘Pineapple Man’, an old Greek gentleman with a crippling speech impediment, who hurls rubbish and abuse at tourists from his derelict courtyard in the town-centre. Many locals take him for a fool despite the fact that: (i) he is the richest man on the island; (ii) he was a war-hero. This central strand is developed against Jack’s growing love for Mia, a student he meets on the island, and is intertwined with the wartime story of two crashed airmen, who are hidden by a few brave islanders.
