(Early rating and review from reading the monthly single issues)
There are good TMNT comics, there are decent TMNT comics, and there are bad TMNT comics.
This is decent. For me, personally, it's fantastic; but for most readers, I imagine this would be somewhere between 2-3 stars. The art is rough in places, the story is a very slow burn but moves the TMNT universe forward in interesting ways, and there are a lot of callbacks to minor TMNT issues I don't care for. Namely, superheroes in a TMNT comic. I hate it. This arc of five issues involves Mirage-unique superheroes a LOT.
But the Utroms making First Contact with Earth is awesome. Just don't expect hardly any of the plot threads started in these first issues to be resolved already... we've got a long road ahead of us!
+1 star to the rating for IDW making old out-of-print collector's comics easily available AND keeping the OG black and white art.
TMNT: Journeys will collect all 32 issues currently available in six total volumes! Volume 1 collects issues #1–5 of the series and is featured in the original black and white format.
