I adore this story. And I absolutely can’t stop obsessing over the art. It’s getting so good and I love Maxi so much. She has gained so much more confidence in this volume but she’s still struggling with her worth and feeling useful. She continues to study magic starting with healing magic. And works to overcome her speech impediment.

Monsters approaching the boarders have kept Riftan close to home. Which means he gets to spend more time with Maxi. Which is something their relationship needs. They finally get a moment to get to know each other better.

This volume left off on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

I honestly adore both the novels and the web comic adaptation so much and look forward to each new book with absolute glee. The novel is much further on than the comic version so this Volume basically retreads story beats I’m already familiar with but I love being able to actually see the characters and the world in picture form.

This Volume is a bit more slow going than the previous Volumes but I do think it picks up towards the end and I love seeing Maxi coming into her own as a character.

I now endure the painful wait for Volume Four but I do still have the third novel to delve into in the meantime.

My addiction to this series is going nowhere anytime soon. xD

This story is not complicated and this relationship is not one to aspire to, but it's still a page-turner for me. Maybe we are tapping into some of my earliest romance novel reading (Johanna Lindsey, for my sins) and it's pleasing in a nostalgic way? Or maybe I just love a lazy, sarcastic, grumpy mage and a medieval fantasy setting? It has the nutritional value of spun sugar, but the memory of the narrative lingers long after the content dissolves under a critical eye.

Slower progression, but explores Maxi’s magic lessons.

Recap: learning magic, revealed that she was healed a lot as a kid bc she was beat, Riftan is hovering and jealous, drunk Maxi, healing magic, knight insults her and Riftan beats on him, she heals a cook and then the knights come to her for healing to make amends, she learns Riftan turned down the crown princess, crown princess comes to visit.

Mixed feelings on these books. On one hand I find the love interest intolerable and borderline abusive (at one point he decides that the MC can’t be alone with another man and orders a servant to follow her 24/7) on the other hand, the art is pretty and reading it is like eating popcorn so I’m probably going to read the next one too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, maybe I'm just not into this story anymore. There are moments of intrigue and intensity–the ride through the snow, her magic training, and squire beat downs, but these are few and far between so many sitting at a library table letting Ruth explain it all. It's not an engaging reading experience. Also! The implied head while they're fresh off a huge moment of miscommunication leading to insecurity was horrifying actually. That wasn't sexy or intimate or loving. She did that like a kicked puppy begs for forgiveness when they did nothing wrong. While I understand that action is very inline with Maxi's headspace, I'm upset Riftan allowed it. Overall, I'm glad to Maxi's continued journey to confidence and magic and autonomy, but it lacks a certain hook to make me excited for the next volume. Yes, even of a challenger princess just appeared. I don't really care anymore.

This volume delivers more of the same. We don’t learn anymore about the specifics of her father’s or the imperial schemes. World building and plot events are very slow. The couple still aren’t using words to explain their viewpoints in conflict or out. They are trying to put stops on their temper and disappointment but it is still their dominant response. Worse they persist it is a solo problem. If you liked it before you should still like it now—but I wish it had more meat on the bones of the narrative.

Winter progresses over Anatol. Lord Riftan Calypse struggles to let his acquired treasure work or interact with others but understands her emotions are unstable and demands will backfire. He unhappily watches as she struggles to learn magic, manage household affairs, and ride horses. A few of the knights make snide comments regarding her worth as the spawn of Duke Croyso—especially in comparison to the comrade and princess Agnes, triggering Maxi’s self-doubt. This is reinforced when Riftan asks her to prepare for a royal envoy which includes the rejected betrothed.

The comic continues… Princess Agnes visits Anatol to inspect the territory. Maximilian is concerned for the past history with her husband and close bond the royal has with the knights. Ruth explains, however, that she is looking for loyalty and trying to find ways to get monster parts and future promises out of the great knight so that another country cannot tempt him away. Meanwhile jealousy and thoughts of separation bond the couple despite their inability to converse freely. Maxi tries to maintain her mage training, health clinic, and household duties after Ruth and a knight’s order are dispatched to Livadon. Then a royal decree arrives demanding reinforcements—including Sir Riftian—be sent. The married couple feud when Maximillian offers herself to heal the soldiers in transit. But as the days pass no other options become available. The troops arrive at Port and are able to sail across to Livadon. Maximilian is left at the temple to pray and wait while Riftan leads the Remdragon Knights to the front lines. Despite the high number of reinforcements the monsters and carnage continue to win. Dead bodies stack up waiting to be purified and the walking wounded and refugees circumstances spiral downward. The noblewoman make donations but soon Maxi must make use of her medical skills. A few then decide to sneak in with the female attendants and provide support for the soldiers and mercenaries. The leader of the temple knights and Ruth soon discover the lady by try to keep her presence hidden from Riftan.

While the infodumping dialogue is awkward at least we understand the kingdom boundaries, magical rules, and chivalry code a bit more. The passion is high, the romance is still rather shallow. It’s nice to see our lead stand up for her abilities and desires but it remains frustrating that their communication skills refuse to develop. Our leads could spend less time on NSFW stuff and tell attendants to wait ten minutes so they could finish the three sentences they plan to say to their partner that month. It’s also weird that his knights are so incompetent only when it comes to endangering their madam. I get it is the drama, but it seems a bit ungrounded. I want to give it kudos for doing something different but I’m going to dnf the series as this gets more and more toxic long before a forced HEA.

omg someone help me with the angst. riftan is off to war because he has to and maxi is just feeling useless so she went to help as a healer/nurse to take care of the injured soldiers. THE ENDING OF SEASON 4 SHOWED RIFTAN FINDING OUT MAXI IS HERE. he would be so freaking angry. i know the next season will be filled with lots of pain for maxi, so i hope riftan would help her throughout all the difficult times. :

i don’t think i need to say anything cause max and riftan are everything. i’ve already read the novel for this so i know what’s going to happen next but i’m just gonna continue the manga because it’s beautiful. i want max to become braver when communicating her thoughts and while i understand riftan wants to protect her, max needs to go through some experiences to become stronger.

Je ne lis pas ce roman graphique pour les rebondissements ou bien l’originalité des péripéties.
Je lis cette série pour me vider la tête et lire une belle histoire d’amour.
Ce troisième tome est à l’image des deux précédents. On continue de suivre l’histoire de Maxi, abusée par sa famille jusqu’à son mariage.
La relation entre les deux personnages principaux se développe, de nouveaux enjeux de magie sont amenés, de nouveaux antagonistes font leurs preuves comme le chevalier blond, et de nouvelles péripéties se dessinent, comme la venue de la princesse Agnes au château.
C’est beau, c’est divertissant, c’est plein d’amour.
Beau et agréable, le graphisme se marie parfaitement avec l’histoire et on se laisse emporter facilement.

The further I read into this series, the more I don't like it. Maxi is all up and down emotionally all the time, and even though this world is made up and has a different social system to ours, she needs to get it together. Both her and Riftan could just communicate more clarly and that would save them botha lot of time wondering and stewing. I may just read the next installment to seee what happens after a cliffhanger at the end of this book. Hopefully it picks up for me!

I love this story and I loved the first two graphic novels. There were some issues with the art, but most of it was beautiful. Not so with this book. I feel the artist did less drawing and more pasting of assets, the angles were weird at times and characters looked cross-eyed. I understand the pressure of producing, but I really hope the quality of the artwork goes up with the next book. Even the cover looks lazy.

I don’t know why, but I find this story absolutely addictive. I finished the 3rd novel (the story is ahead of the graphic novel) and I can’t wait for the 4th.

AHHHH I loved this volume so much!! 😭💖✨ One of my absolute favorite scenes was finally in this volume, and I was laughing so hard. 😂🤣💀 The scene where Maxi got drunk will never stop being funny to me. 🍷🤭💕

The artwork was absolutely gorgeous, as always. 🎨✨ I seriously love seeing the story come to life in comic form. Every volume makes me fall in love with this series all over again. 🥹🫶📖💚

AND OF COURSE... it had to end on a cliffhanger. 😭😩💔 Now I have to wait who knows how long for the next volume. 🥲⏳ The wait is actually torture. 😭💀

I need more communication!!!!!!!!!!! They need to TALK to each other!!!! I know she had a terrible upbringing and ofc doesn't know what the reader does, but TRUST THE MAN!!!!!!! He's shown he cares!!!! He also needs to explain his backstory with her to her! I'm so ready for him to find out about her 'dad,' fuck him up already, Riftan! Agnes better be nice. I hate how Maxi focuses on the stupidest things sometimes, "oh, he mentioned other women," like, yeah, the dude hasn't lived locked up in a castle! How is nobody questioning that more?!??!?

I was worried that Riftan would be mad that Maxi was learning magic and he was only because he feared that Maxi liked Ruth. So he has some insecurities too. I’m curious why he refused the offer to marry the princess and marry Maxi instead. I wonder if I’ll find out in the next volume. I wonder why that one knight doesn’t like her. I get that she’s from Croyoso or whatever castle, but she’s clearly not like the rest of them. Im glad she’s becoming more confident in herself. I worry that her family is going to barge in and ruin her progress. I’m excited for the next volume.

This is one of my favorite comic series coming out right now. Even though it takes place in this fantastical world with monsters and knights, everything just feels so grounded and real. The tension is common in the real world. The pacing is slow and comforting at the same time. Even what is considered filler makes your heart warm and eases your stress. This is just a perfect feel good series to me.

I love this so much! The only thing for me is I guess I’m very new to comics… and they are so very behind the novel on volume 3. I guess until this volume I hadn’t realized just how behind it was. I can’t wait to see the next volume of the comic! It is so good and so fun to see the correlating pictures/graphics.

I feel like I’m only reading this now for the fmc’s own like personal journey/character growth. Every time the mmc is super involved in the scene I just get annoyed. Lol which makes me question if I even want to keep reading, but once again, I just want to see her grow into herself!!!

Also, the illustrations are just so pretty ahhaha

This was a "no" for me, dawg. The female protagonist was really annoying and by the 3rd volume her insecurities were too much for me. The Male protagonist gave me the "ick" with his weird controlling abusive nonsense and the "you can do whatever you want"...... "wait no don't talk to other men and don't study magic". Gross.

If this volume had contained more open conversation between Maxi and Riftan regarding Maxi's childhood, this would have been 5-stars. I understand she is on a journey to gain more confidence and self-worth, but ughhhh it's so frustrating!! Just tell him already so he can put your worries at ease!!

Beautiful art and paneling, and overall I am enjoying the romance.

EDIT: I've been rethinking some of the scenes between Riften and Maxi, and lots of Riften's behavior is not ok. I can see that the author is trying to show some sort of trauma, but that still doesn't excuse the way he treats Maxi at times.
