From award-winning author Katie Powner comes a funny feel-good novel about a woman discovering her second chance at life.

This charming and heartfelt story is perfect for readers who loved Mrs. Quinn's Rise to Fame.

Fifty-two-year-old Meredith McGillicutty is not having a midlife crisis. She’s just ready for a change of pace, that’s all. The fact that she lied to get into a retirement community has nothing to do with being passed over for a promotion at work nor her recent breakup with the only man she’s ever loved.

Nothing.

Meredith only wants some peace and quiet. To sit on a porch in elastic-waist pants and mingle with other mature individuals who value a life of serenity. But the residents of the Peaceful Pines retirement community have other plans for her. These quirky and endearing neighbors seem to know her better than she knows herself, and they decide Meredith’s life is only just beginning.

Blending humor and tenderness, The Second Chance Trailer Park will appeal to fans of Fredrik Backman and Lenora Worth.

My synopsis
Fifty two year old Meredith McGillicutty is finally ready to retire and let some moss grow under her feet. What does this mean? She’ll slow down and finally make time for friendships and community. How will she do this you wonder? Well she’s got her sights set on moving to The Peaceful Pines Trailer Park for Seasoned Adults. The problem with this plan? Its bylaws state that you have to be at least fifty four and a half to live there. The solution? She’ll be a bit creative with her credentials maybe a bit less polished in her appearance and no one will be the wiser.

My thoughts
This book! Wow! I loved every minute of it. It’s characters, it’s deep heartfelt messages and just the entire beautiful ride. You’ve got Meredith who’s trying to reinvent herself but has never let anyone truly know her. Can she change her ways amongst her new neighbours and let them truly see her? Then there’s Meredith’s next door neighbour Harry, recently widowed and at a loss with what’s next. He’s as straight laced as they come but he’s got a secret that could get him expelled from Peaceful Pines. Next we have Sherry and Larry and Hairy (not Harry but Hairy a pet that to everyone but them brings the creeps) I love their unfailing loyalty, friendship and sense of self. They always know the right thing to say and have a style that’s the basis of many looks at the parks rule book. These are only a few of the characters that make up this wild and wonderful trailer park full of second chances and friendships that I’m truly in awe of. If you need a feel good book with truly unique and unfailingly kind and robust characters look no further this one has got you more than covered.

Meredith McGuillicuddy decides at the age of 52 1/2 (after being passed over for a promotion) that she needs to simplify her life because she is too old. She quits her job, sells her house and moves into a 55+ mobile home (trailer) park. Her biggest challenge is to keep her age a secret or she will be evicted.

This is a cute, entertaining story. Meredith’s best friend is the cat that comes with her home. It’s quite predictable. Quirky senior characters, neighbourly spats, odd pets, recluses, nosy neighbours. Instead of going for walks, they take their mobility scooters for a group ride.

Every character has their own story. Meredith soon adapts to her new lifestyle.

It is a wholesome story, though a little slow paced in the middle. There were times I didn’t rush to pick it up. Then the last part of the book picks up again to a satisfying ending.

When her job and her man do her wrong, a fifty-two year old woman chucks it all and fibs about her age so she can kick back and enjoy the senior life at a trailer park. Katie Powner is a new to me author and her book caught my eye when I spotted the title and read the blurb.

Synopsis:
Meet Meredith, who works at Beau Boutique. When something happens at her job, she decides to slow down, start a new life at 52, and “grow moss” on her life. She moves to Peaceful Pines Trailer Park for seasoned adults—but there’s one problem: residents must be 55 or older. So, she has to find a way not to get caught!

The people in Peaceful Pines:
• Meredith – trying to find herself again. Independent and self-sufficient, but is that enough for her to truly be accepted by the community?
• Harry – her neighbor, a widower who constantly thinks of his wife. He also has a secret no one should know!
• Ted & Sherry (the couple) with Hairy – yes, sounds like Harry… the curly tarantula 😛
• Rowdy – a former pastor
• Amy – the youngest and the manager

My thoughts:
Oh man… I did not expect to finish this book with such a big smile on my face! Suuuuuch a cute story! With all these characters, I never thought I’d become so invested in the elderly people of Peaceful Pines.

There were times when it felt a bit slow, and I found it hard to pick up. But I’m glad I finished it. Around 70%, it really got better! So be patient!

I had so much fun reading and going along with their lives. It felt refreshing to read something outside my usual genre. It was like I was there with them, laughing at their goofiness. Their friendship is so special! They’re always ready to help one another.

I love how Katie portrayed the lives of the elderly. It felt very real and relatable. It’s a story about second chances and falling in love with life again. No matter your age, just do what makes you feel at ease, what feels like home 🏡💖

Looking at the book cover, it all made sense after I finished reading.

Overall:
If you’re looking for a feel-good, slow-burn, cozy read with laugh-out-loud moments and heartwarming older characters, add this to your TBR!

Oh my. You will laugh, you will shake your head, and you will want to move into Peaceful Pines, just to be with these neighbors.

Meredith has decided she’s getting old. And she wants some peace and quiet. Hint. She’s not going to find it at Peaceful Pines. But she will find a second chance at life and love.

The quirky characters are charming and will pull on your heart strings. Wounded widows. Elderly people life has passed by. And a lot of cats.

I absolutely loved this story and wish Katie Powner would write a sequel!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. All thoughts are my own.

Enjoyed the book. Interesting premise about a 50yo woman who retires early and moves to an age restricted trailer park. You meet several residents of the trailer park whom she befriends. She thought she wanted solitude and this atmosphere gave her the exact opposite. Good story about finding yourself in mid to late life.

An enjoyable read with humor and points to ponder.
A wide variety of characters living in a retirement age trailer park embrace a newcomer whose life is at a crossroads.

Themes of friendship, family and finding a way forward with the help of others, give the story depth and humor also. A little mystery and hints of romance added interest too. It was a fun read that had me laughing out loud and wondering about what kind of legacy we all leave behind.

A good light read overall. Fans of Melody Carlson, Joyce Magnin and Courtney Walsh may enjoy this one.

SMALL-TOWN COMMUNAL SOLIDARITY VS. RUTHLESS CORPORATE GREED.
A fierce trailer park manager rallies her neighborhood of resilient outcasts to block an elite developer from bulldozing their sanctuary.

In The Second Chance Trailer Park, acclaimed author Katie Powner delivers a witty, deeply moving, atmospheric, and beautifully resonant Montana small-town contemporary fiction novel. The story hinges on a fierce, protective trailer park manager and a community of eccentric outcasts facing immense corporate and financial hurdles to save their homes and find unexpected redemption.

A desperate fight to prevent eviction turns into a heart-wrenching, high-stakes community crusade when a wealthy developer buys the land, forcing a fractured neighborhood to unite against a common enemy.

Elevator Pitch
A charming, richly character-driven contemporary novel following a sharp-tongued trailer park manager in rural Montana who rallies her community of resilient misfits and struggling families to fight an elite developer planning to bulldoze their sanctuary for luxury condos.

Review Breakdown

Intro
Fifty-something Amy has spent years running the Whispering Pines trailer park in a remote pocket of Montana, acting as the unofficial, fiercely protective matriarch to a tight-knit circle of eccentric residents.

For the single mothers, retired veterans, and floundering souls living there, the park is their absolute final safety net. But their peaceful community is threatened when a wealthy out-of-state corporate developer buys the land with plans to evict everyone and build an exclusive resort. Refusing to let her neighborhood be erased, Amy launches a grassroots campaign to block the redevelopment, forcing a highly stubborn, protective community to unpack their personal secrets and work together to save their home.

Setting
The rustic, wind-swept, and deeply community-reliant environment of Whispering Pines trailer park is nestled against the imposing, beautiful mountains of rural Montana.

Vibe
Heartwarming, nostalgic, funny, and intensely moving.

It perfectly pairs the witty, eccentric humor of a close-knit neighborhood with the gentle, deeply comforting chosen-family warmth of Elizabeth Berg’s Story of Arthur Truluv, the emotionally grounded community warmth of The Bookshop of Second Chances, and the sharp, conversational wit and rural grit of Catherine Ryan Hyde.

Genre
Contemporary Women's Fiction / Small-Town Drama / Inspirational Fiction / Humor

Themes
~The True Definition of Home and Sanctuary
~The Destructive Velocity of Corporate Gentrification
~The Power of Shared Resilience and Communal Care
~Finding Second Chances Within Vulnerable Transitions

Standout Characters

~Amy Anderson: The tough, independent trailer park manager whose gruff exterior masks a massive, fiercely loyal heart and a deep commitment to her tenants.

~Meredith McGillicutty: A 52-and-a-half-year-old woman facing a major turning point in her life. After being passed over for a career promotion and going through a painful breakup, she decides to simplify her life radically. She sells her home, quits her job, and lies on her application to sneak into the Peaceful Pines 55+ mobile home retirement community early.

~Harry: Meredith's next-door neighbor at Peaceful Pines. Like Meredith, Harry is harboring a massive secret of his own, and their proximity forces them into an unexpected dynamic.

~The Residents of Peaceful Pines: A tight-knit, endearing group of senior citizens who subvert Meredith's expectations of a quiet retirement. Rather than letting her blend into the background, this eccentric community—known for staging group mobility scooter rides instead of standard walks—ultimately pulls Meredith into their neighborly spats, friendships, and collective lives.

Author Writing Standout
Katie Powner showcases a stunning, elite gift for writing complex, deeply authentic human behavior in the rural West.

Takeaway
A community isn't defined by the monetary value of the structures they live in, but by the fierce, protective network of solidarity they build to look out for one another.

Title Significance
The Second Chance Trailer Park serves as a beautiful, literal representation of the setting—highlighting how the park functions as a necessary, transitional sanctuary where broken people go to rebuild their lives.

Metaphor
The communal campfire at the center of the park serves as a flawless metaphor—a warm, central light source built entirely from scraps that brings highly diverse, stubborn people together to find comfort in the dark.

Why You Should Read
A quietly powerful, beautifully written piece of contemporary fiction that will completely melt your heart and make you smile, offering a deeply rewarding experience for fans of character-driven small-town dramas.

My Thoughts
Heartwarming, funny, and intensely moving!

THEY ARE BULLDOZING THE LAND, BUT THE CHOSEN FAMILY STAYS STRONG.
"A quietly powerful, beautifully atmospheric contemporary novel that keeps you entirely captivated through a complex web of neighborhood resilience."

Amy is a sharp-tongued manager who refuses to let her community of resilient misfits be erased by out-of-state money. It is a moody, propulsive, and deeply atmospheric small-town drama that explores second chances and the true meaning of home and chosen family.

The narrative pacing builds with a masterful, gradual turn of the screw. Powner crafts an exceptionally grounded and emotional tale where the stakes feel intensely personal on every page. Watching the crew rally to fight back against corporate greed is peak comfort reading.

Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 (4.5/5).
"An emotionally sharp, searingly intimate character study that sparks with stunning observation, heavy gravity, and heartwarming wit."

The Second Chance Trailer Park by Katie Powner is a very highly recommended character-driven, feel-good domestic drama about second chances and opening yourself up to friendship in a community.

Meredith McGillicutty is not having a mid-life crisis, she's simply tired. Following her breakup with her boyfriend Patrick and after a younger co-worker is given the manager position over her, Meredith has had enough. She is ready to retire. Her plan is to sell her house, move into a retirement community, settle down, and grow moss. The one problem is that the Peaceful Pines Trailer Park for Seasoned Adults has a strict age requirement, 54 1/2 and up, and Meredith is 52 years-old. A little lie on the application and a bad picture of her driver's license, along with a sudden opening in the community, and Meredith is in, ready to meet her neighbors.

Amy, the manager of the trailer park is a very young whippersnapper. Next door to Meredith is Harry whose wife recently died and he is in mourning. When his grandson Dawson suddenly needs a place to stay for a couple months, they make a plan to keep their rule breaking a secret. Larry and Sherry live next to Harry and love to decorate outdoors enthusiastically. Rowdy is a former pastor living on the other side of Meredith. For a community that she thought would be quiet, there is actually quite a bit going on and Meredith quickly begins to find ways to fit in, participate, and help her new neighbors while they also help her.

This is a funny, charming, endearing, and sometimes poignant character-driven novel. Powner does an excellent job depicting all the residents of Peaceful Pines as unique, quirky individual adults with backgrounds, knowledge, and experience acquired over a lifetime, not caricatures of older retried people. It is very easy to keep track of who all the various characters are in the plot. Meredith's character experiences growth and discovers a new sense of purpose, along with the freedom and comfort provided by elastic-waist pants, while becoming a first time cat owner.

Although no great literary boundaries are stretched, there is plenty of humor along with drama as situations and dilemmas need to be handled. While there aren't any thrilling action scenes within the novel, it is a very comfortable, heartwarming, funny, and entertaining read that held my complete attention. The ending was predictable, but perfect. 4.5 rounded up for the sheer pleasure in reading it.

The Second Chance Trailer Park is a perfect choice for those times when you need an inviting, cozy domestic drama. Thanks to Alcove Press for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.

Moving into a retirement community at fifty-two isn't necessarily a midlife crisis; it just looks like one from the curb. Meredith McGillicutty is done with being overlooked at work and exhausted by a recent breakup, so she lies her way into Peaceful Pines seeking nothing but silence and elastic-waist pants. She wants to disappear, but her elderly neighbors have zero interest in letting her hide. They see through her walls almost immediately, dragging her back into the world whether she likes it or not.

The blueprint is very familiar. We have seen the "younger person hiding among the elderly to find themselves" trope plenty of times. It is a slow burn that leans heavily on the charm of the supporting cast; those quirky seniors act as a collective mirror for Meredith’s own insecurities. While the neighbors are endearing, they occasionally feel like catalysts for her growth rather than fully realized people. Meredith herself is relatable enough, especially for anyone at that age where the corporate world starts treating you like an expired carton of milk.

Powner writes with a dry, gentle humor that keeps things moving. There is no unnecessary frivolity or over-the-top drama here. The tone is quiet and observant, capturing that specific trailer park atmosphere where everyone knows your business but might actually care about it. It is a clean, honest style that avoids the usual sentimentality of the genre. I appreciated the lack of forced emotional manipulation; the feelings are present, but they aren't shouted at you.

The story reflects a very modern anxiety: the fear of becoming irrelevant. In a society obsessed with the "new," Meredith’s retreat to a place for the "old" is a clever, if predictable, rebellion. It asks whether we are defined by our productivity or our connections. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it serves as a decent reminder that life doesn't end just because a promotion goes to someone twenty years younger.

If you are looking for a groundbreaking literary shift, keep looking. But if you want a grounded story about starting over when you’re already halfway through the race, it is a solid read. It’s a comfortable, low-stakes journey that might make you look at your own "retirement plan" a little differently. We all need a reminder that we don't have to wait until we’re eighty to stop caring what the wrong people think of us.

Meredith McGillicutty is fifty-two, recently dumped, passed over for promotion, and absolutely not having a midlife crisis. She's just looking for peace and quiet, which is why she lies her way into Peaceful Pines retirement community. Her plan is simple: sit on a porch in elastic-waist pants, avoid the chaos of the outside world, and embrace a life of serenity among other mature individuals who value calm.

Naturally, nothing goes according to plan.

The residents of Peaceful Pines have zero interest in letting Meredith hide away. These quirky, meddling, utterly lovable neighbors seem to see something in her that she's lost sight of herself—the possibility that her life isn't winding down but just beginning. What follows is a gentle, funny exploration of what it means to start over when you thought you were done starting.

What I found most valuable about this book was Powner's honest portrayal of older folks living independently while navigating that uncertain space between full autonomy and needing more help. She doesn't shy away from the real challenges: the fears about what comes next, the stubborn determination to hold onto independence, the small losses that accumulate alongside the continuing joys. The residents of Peaceful Pines aren't cutesy caricatures; they're people with full, complex lives who happen to be aging, and Powner treats them with dignity and genuine affection.

The depth of life experience these characters carry feels authentic. They've loved and lost, succeeded and failed, raised families and buried spouses. Their wisdom isn't dispensed in tidy sound bites but emerges naturally through lived experience. The connections they form with Meredith (and with each other) have real weight because Powner understands that meaningful relationships don't become less important as we age; if anything, they matter more.

The Second Chance Trailer Park is charming, heartfelt, and refreshingly real in its depiction of aging and community. It's a reminder that it's never too late to begin again, and that the richness of life doesn't diminish just because the number of years ahead might be fewer.

Katie Powner's "The Second Chance Trailer Park" is a delightful and heartwarming novel that promises to be a perfect escape for readers seeking a blend of humour, tenderness, and genuine human connection. This feel-good story introduces us to Meredith McGillicutty, a fifty-two-year-old woman who, after a series of disappointments, including a missed promotion and a recent breakup, decides it's time for a radical change.

Seeking serenity and a simpler life, Meredith orchestrates a rather unconventional move: she lies about her age to gain entry into Peaceful Pines, a 55+ retirement community. Her vision of quiet days in elastic-waist pants, mingling with like-minded mature individuals, is quickly upended by the vibrant and wonderfully quirky residents of the trailer park. Far from finding the solitude she anticipated, Meredith discovers a community brimming with life, unexpected friendships, and a renewed sense of purpose. These endearing neighbours, with their unique personalities and mobility scooter adventures, seem to know Meredith better than she knows herself, gently nudging her towards a second chance at life she never knew she needed.

Powner crafts a narrative that is both entertaining and wholesome, filled with charming characters and relatable situations. While some aspects of the plot may feel familiar, the journey of self-discovery and the heartwarming portrayal in the middle build to a satisfying and uplifting conclusion. Readers who appreciate the works of Fredrik Backman and Lenora Worth, or who enjoyed "Mrs Quinn's Rise to Fame," will find themselves right at home in the Peaceful Pines.

"The Second Chance Trailer Park" is a testament to the idea that it's never too late to find joy, friendship, and a fresh start, even in the most unexpected places. It's a charming read that reminds us of the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a heartwarming story with a touch of humour.

Meredith is over working any longer when a younger "whippersnapper" gets promoted to a manager position over her. She is close enough to retirement, why not retire and enjoy life. That new life she wants is at Peaceful Pines for those who are 55+, but she is close enough, isn't she? I mean it's only a few years off and she sure feels older than 55 most days. Flubbing her date of birth, Meredith gets in on a quick sell after one of the residents can no longer live on her own. Happy, excited and ready for peace Meredith has no idea what she is in for! As she learns about each of her neighbors and their quirks, she realizes that not everyone is following the rules, and questions why some do what they do? Her sister won't stop bugging to see this new place she has moved to, Patrick her ex keeps texting her and Peaceful Pines is quite the misleading title. She also can't believe she agreed to keeping this cat that came with the place. Sir Edmond, what kind of name is that? As time goes on, things slowly grow on her. She finds out more about her neighbors, comes up with ways to help those who are reclusive due to medial issues and realizes Sir Edmond isn't so bad after all. But what she really finds in this place, is herself and the true reason she came here, just like most of the others. This isn't just a retirement place, it's a second chance at life, love and friendships. I really enjoyed this novel, and that wedding! This was another heartfelt but laughter filled novel where you really connected with the various characters. Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the complementary ebook. THE SECOND CHANCE TRAILER PARK BY Katie Powner. CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN
Y'all I'm so thrilled to get to be an early reader for this adorable book lol. Its just too cute and funny!
This book will have you laughing and crying at these wonderful characters. Especially Meredith who's only downfall is wanting to help others but yet at the same time she's a busybody lol my favorite character also she tickles me pink. I love her determination and courage and confidence lol
Poor Harry! My heart hurt for him as he struggles through a new turn of events in his life. But in one spot or several of them he cracked me up! I laughed until I cried tears hehehehe
I don't know when I've enjoyed a story more about the older folks. You just gotta love them!!
I love how Powner shows they're human too and still have minds of their own or some still do!
I hope I'm as lucky
And we can't leave out Eddie the cat. He sure has a lot of personality. Im glad Meredith kept him lol
Powner also does well with the toughest of subjects like Dementia (my biggest fear).
I truly loved this book for what it is. It does stop you to make you think about how we might act whenever we reach these characters age!
Thank you Author Katie Powner!! My favorite story of yours but then I love all of them lol 😆 they make me happy 😊

Based on the book’s description, I knew reading The Second Chance Trailer Park would be an interesting ride, but would I enjoy it? YES, I did!

A few chapters in, I was laughing out loud. What a yummy cast of characters! As someone old enough to fill out an application at Peaceful Pines, I was excited to pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the show, and it was worth it.

If you’re hungry for a feel-good story, The Second Chance Trailer Park will fill out those wrinkles in your belly. Katie Powner handles the themes of aging, self-acceptance, and second chances with grace, sensitivity, finesse, and lots of laughs.

By the story’s end, I wanted to know more about some of the characters who took up space in Meredith's (the protagonist) head. For example, Rowdy and his interesting, albeit peculiar communication habits, and Nora, who had a beautiful and unencumbered way of looking at life. These are just two of several characters who opened their door and invited you into a world they unashamedly navigate on their own terms.

Hopefully, we’ll get to hear more from these lovely characters in the future.

Read this one. It will make your heart happy.

Meridith may not think she is having a midlife crisis, but in my opinion, that is exactly what I think is happening to her.

Meridith's life is a mess. She has lost a promotion to a much younger woman who doesn't have her experience. She is a serial dater whose relationships don't make it past the six-month mark. She may have lost a man she loves because the inside of his car is a mess.

Now she thinks she wants peace and quiet, joining a book club and sipping wine while chatting with other like-minded women. She thinks she can get this peace by moving to an age-restricted trailer park. Of course, to get in, she has to lie about her age! This is not what she gets, though.

This book runs the gamut from funny to sad to quirky, and sometimes just perfect. Although this book is about characters who are 55 and older, I recommend this book for any age. The ending is perfect -a real HEA!

I loved it, and it will be going on my re-read shelf!

This is such a fun book to read! When Meredith is passed over for a promotion at work, she decides to retire, put her house up for sale, and settle down. Though she is only fifty-two, she lies her way into being accepted at a trailer park for people fifty-five plus. She's ready to live the retired life. Meredith is a strong, independent, never been married woman who can do everything herself, thank you very much. She's also rather bossy and can't believe anyone would think she is hiding or running away, even though she did break off her relationship with Patrick, a man she really liked. The residents of the trailer park are quite unique with interesting back stories. The wedding scene was so funny it was hard to stop laughing. Several of the residents, including Meredith, have relationship problems with family or friends and lessons are learned. I really enjoyed reading The Second Chance Trailer Park. I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

The Second Chance Trailer Park is a fun, heartwarming adventure with the eccentric, diverse residents of the Peaceful Pines retirement community! Fifty-two-year-old Meredith McGillicutty lies about her age in order to move into the 55+ community for a new start and finds more than she bargained for! I became immersed in this world right away, and I was turning pages quickly to see how it all came together. I love how the author offers insight into the unique lives and challenges of each resident and how they interact with their neighbors both positively and negatively. The author navigates the realities of aging with many laugh out loud moments along with some heartfelt, poignant ones. The satisfying, uplifting ending left me smiling. I totally enjoyed this entertaining read and sincerely recommend it.

I really enjoyed all the quirky characters, second chances, and sense of community in this wonderful story set at Peaceful Pines retirement trailer park. Tender and funny, Author Katie Powner dishes up a sweet story with beautiful insight into the various folks who live there.

Meredith McGillicutty decides to quit her job, sell her house, and move to a retirement community a few years shy of the mandatory age of 55. "The plan was that if she meticulously abided by every other rule down to the letter, no one would think to question whether she was abiding by the one rule that mattered most." Her overbearing sister Catherine is worried about Meredith having a mid life crisis. Meredith, despite her inner snarkiness has a heart of gold, and really does care about her neighbors.

Perfect summer read! You don't want to miss The Second Chance Trailer Park!

this was such a wholesome and comforting read

i went into it thinking it would just be a light, easy story, but it actually had a bit more depth to it which i really loved

meredith was such a relatable character. even though her situation is a bit chaotic, the feeling of wanting to escape and start over felt really real

the side characters honestly made this book. they were so full of personality and added so much warmth and humour, and i loved how they slowly pulled meredith out of her shell

it’s one of those stories that’s easy to read but still makes you feel something. it’s about second chances, finding your place, and realising your life isn’t over just because things didn’t go to plan

overall such a feel-good, heartwarming read

thank you to netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the arc

When she gets passed over her a promotion again and her boyfriend is no good. Meredith decides it's a sign that she should settle down in a new environment so she fibs about her age and moves into a retirement village so she can kick back and enjoy life she has to keep her age a secret or she will be evicted but soon she realizes that others are aware but they aren't telling because they've got secrets of their own.
1 adored the relationship she made the with cat, Ed, that she inherited with the house she moved into. There's lots of quirky side characters to get to know and they all have their own story in this book full of second chances and found family.
This was such a feel good story by a new to me author and I will be going back and finding all her work!

I could relate so much to Meredith. I could almost feel her excitement as she moves into the Peaceful Pines trailer park.

Meredith quickly becomes involved in the lives of the other residents and this is where the fun begins. The reader is able to meet so many great characters, some human and some feline!

Each of the residents at the Pines has their own story that brought them to the park and as Meredith learns these stories, she and the other residents help them along on their journeys. This was one of my favorite parts was all of the parties at the activity center.

I also enjoyed Rowdy's character as he was the one that so many went to for counsel and advice.

This authors books always resonate with me as they are written so uniquely with well developed characters!

I was given a copy of the book. The opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for an advanced readers copy.

This book is just so wholesome and delightful perfect for fans of A Man Called Ove and The Thursday Murder Club (without all of the murder).

Meredith is ready for a life change and at the age of 52 decides that a little lie about her age to settle into the Peaceful Pines retirement community won’t hurt anyone. And while she was searching for a settled feeling and some serenity she ultimately finds so much more.

This book is cozy and heartwarming and very low stakes but still explores big themes of life change, grief and loss, family and of course love. I felt pulled in by the story and like I was a part of the Peaceful Pines community to the point where I was sad when it ended.

Meredith McGillicutty, takes an early retirement at age 52 when she is fed up with job and its lost promotion. She wants a change from her life, a change from her boyfriend Patrick, and a way to really live. She believes that a simplified lifestyle will do the trick. Meredith fabricates her age to get a spot in Peaceful Pines, a 55+ community. Her house goes up for sale and she lucks into an open mobile home in the new community.
Meredith tells anyone who might ask that she feels old; even though she doesn't meet the age requirement, she is ready for a slower pace. Of course a comedy of characters resides in the community and Meredith soon becomes part of the fabric.

4.5 stars for this cute story about finding oneself during one's later years. Meredith McGillicutty has never needed a man, and has always had the freedom to do what she wants. And when she is passed over for a promotion that instead went to a "whippersnapper", she decides that she doesn't actually need a job any more than she needs a man. When she discovers Peaceful Pines Trailer Park, a 55+ community, she longs to settle down and be allowed to grow old without the cares of a job or a significant other. Hoping to find community, she finds a lot more than she bargained for!

Though I tend to read more plot-driven stories, I do enjoy some character-driven stories, as long as the characters are interesting and enjoyable to read. This one falls into that category. Though Meredith had a lot of growth needed (and taken), she was still likable and relatable. There were a few small mysteries contained in the story as well, brought about by her neighbors, as well as Lois, the woman whose trailer she ends up buying. There was a hint of romance brewing in the background of the story, but it was not the main point. There were touches of humor and touches of depth. Though the author typically writes Christian fiction, this one was marketed as general market, making it clean, but there was no real faith thread outside of one character being a retired pastor and speaking of things of God. All in all, this was an enjoyable story about people in the later stages of life finding meaning and growing into who they are. Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

This is my favorite book of Katie’s so far!! I received this copy from NetGalley for being part of her launch team. I always read her books when I’m overwhelmed and this has been no exception. I have had some health issues pop up this month that still have left me uncertain. I started reading this earlier this week and just burst out loud laughing! It was exactly the distraction I needed. The characters are so well-written and I was just genuinely laughing so hard but wanting to know what happened next. A good read. Phenomenal job, Katie! Please write more books just like this one!!!

I absolutely loved this book Katie is a delightful writer I am a lot older than the main character in the book I could absolutely relate to the concept of starting over on a new chapter in your life
The characters are very vivid and seem like people you have met I howled with laughter at the idea of 2 people trying to be good neighbors by feeding the unusual pet the neighbors kept I won’t disclose what it is Just read the book
This is a great book if you want something fun to read Be prepared to laugh a lot I definitely will recommend this book

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this one. It starts with Meredith deciding she’s done with her life and sneaking into a 55+ trailer park for a fresh start—and of course, nothing goes quite like she plans.

It’s funny, a little slow in spots, but the characters really make it. They’re messy, real, and oddly comforting in that “small town everybody knows your business” way.

At its core, it’s about second chances and finding your place again when life doesn’t go the way you thought it would.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

This was the perfect palate cleanser full of quirky characters and witty humor. The characters navigate aging and all the fun and not so fun things that come with it all while living at a trailer park. I loved the menagerie of faces, especially Harry (my heart), and their love of cats, gossip, and a good party. If you like a slow burn with some well placed humor, this is a gem.
