That Vast Hunger: A Second Chance Witch Romantasy

Rate this book
He stole her heart. She stole his memories.

Wanted for murder, Secora Reed serves a vampiric clan in exchange for their protection. As their resident witch, she heals curse-inflicted vampires and does her best to forget her bloodied past. But when the only man she’s ever loved crashes back into her life, her fragile stability is threatened.

Elliot Lyrie barely remembers his former classmate, Secora Reed. He knows she was a Dark One. An orphan. An outcast. And, most markedly, his best friend’s sadistic killer. But when Elliot is attacked by a mob of vampires, Secora is inexplicably the one to save him.

When he discovers she stole his memories, Elliot makes Secora an offer she can’t refuse. He will help heal her cursed vampires, and in exchange, she will return his memories. Though she accepts, Secora has no intention of honoring the bargain.

After all, she knows better than the past holds power and Elliot’s might just destroy her hard-won future.

THAT VAST HUNGER is a witch romantasy and is part of an interconnected series of standalones. Featuring second-chance romance, amnesia (with a twist!), and open-door spice, it is told in dual, first person POV.

The Echo Realm books can all be read as standalone romantasies; however, if you plan to read multiple, I recommend reading in the following

as much as I loved bree’s other books, I found this one really difficult to get into. I’m going to give it another try at a later date as I’m hoping it’s just a mood thing.

I’m so happy that That Vast Hunger by Bree Wilde was my final read of 2025 🎇. I loved The Violent Light earlier this year, so I knew I’d be pulled in immediately with this one - and I was not disappointed 💚
That Vast Hunger is a second-chance love story for a romance thought lost forever, filled with vast secrets, hidden truths, and stolen memories. New allegiances are formed, hearts are broken, and everything hinges on breaking a curse and righting a terrible wrong. Ultimately, revelations come to light that completely shift the dynamics and paths taken of the characters.
Cora and Elliot are like water and oil—you truly couldn’t find two more opposite people.
Cora is a Dark One, feared by most… except Elliot. Elliot is a healer, always seeking justice and the good in others. Tragic and traumatic events unfold that change the course of their lives.
My Thoughts:
💚 I love how the author created the different realms and brought them vividly to life (yes—there’s a map!).
🖤 Cora is a fierce, compelling character with a heartbreaking backstory, and the walls she’s built feel almost unbreakable.
💚 The push and pull between the characters is so good—both are hiding secrets, yet the attraction is undeniable.
🖤 Fast-paced, sassy, and filled with strong character voices.
💚 I loved seeing the return of so many characters from book one 💜
🖤 Bree Wilde is incredibly skilled at drawing you in right from the start.
I’m so curious to see who the next main characters will be!

THAT VAST HUNGER is a witch romantasy and the second book in the Echo Realm interconnected romantasy series.
What to Expect:
🖤 Witches vs Vampires
💚 Second-chance romance
🖤 Amnesia (with a twist)
💚 Open-door spice
🖤 Dual POV
💚 “It was always you”

Note: this can be read as a standalone, however I recommend you start book 1 [This Violent Light ] to avoid any spoilers and get a full grasp of the world building of the unique Realms 💜💚
(Make sure to check the TW’s)

Thank you Bree Wilde for the opportunity to read this eARC. The following review and thoughts are my own:

I have read all of Bree's releases and have enjoyed every single one. Her stories are entertaining and engaging and That Vast Hunger is no exception!

That Vast Hunger follows the events of This Violent Light where Cora is continuing to try to find a cure for the curse that plagues the vampires. To do so, she becomes reluctant allies with a friend from her past. Can they get over their past in order to work together? And what are these feelings that one of them is suddenly remembering...

I really enjoyed the flashbacks intertwined with the present day plot. It drove the story forward and kept me interested in finding out what was the catalyst event from both main characters' pasts. I don't want to spoil anything because going in blind was half the fun!

Read That Vast Hunger if you like:

- witches vs. vampires
- childhood friends to lovers to enemies to ?
- memory magic
- curse breaking

Happy Reading!

This is one of those treasures you find every now and again that deserves all the stars.

The writing was so beautifully done and paced so well that I hung on every word. I didn't want to miss a single sentence. I even read the dreaded italics and LOVED them.  EVERY. Little. Thing. About. This book was perfection. From the character development, to the way a phrase was coined, to the plot, to the banter and dynamics between characters... I even felt an instant bond to the main character and rooted for her from that amazing first sentence hook. She's the outcast that has a troubled past. And every character is so well built, they feel alive, believeable, and natural.

I'm also so in love with the mmc, Elliot. He's so inherently kind but they're rightful enemies. It was so much fun getting his POVs and seeing both sides of the story. Each side just as complex and well plotted as the other. It worked incredibly well to have his side along with hers.

I loved the high stakes and the super complex relationships. All that angst and tension. I loved the first book, but I LOVED this one even more.

The clever way the then and now was done had me so messed up reading it. Like in the best way. Like I needed more and the reactions and emotions of the characters were... messing me up. I can't even explain how much I loved this book.  It tugged at so many different parts of me as I read.  I cried my eyes out. I laughed. I went through so many different emotions. And seriously so unexpected at how amazing this book was.

It also helped that a lot of the worldbuilding was done in book 1 so this one had a quicker pace and I already loved the world and setup from before. This one is also miles heavier than the first one. So in short, your heart is going to be wrenched.

Tropes:
Angst
A clever then and now
Troubled pasts
Trauma/Healing
(Depression)
One tent
Spice
Witches vs vampires
Enemies to lovers (play on it)
Forced Proximity
Forbidden Love

I absolutely loved this book! While it states that you don’t need to read The Violent Light first, I’m glad I did because it helped me be familiar with the characters. However, if you haven’t read it, you’ll still be able to easily follow along.

I was particularly fond of Cora in the first book, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this book was entirely about her. I’m also glad that Bree end this book on a happy note. The ending was perfect for me!

I didn’t think I could love this book as much as This Violent Light but here we are. I absolutely loved this book. Cora’s past is heartbreaking and tragic but yet she is resilient, kind and loyal. This story renews my faith that karma will eventually catch up to us all. It is hard to write a review describing all the things I loved without spoilers. What I can say is this book left a mark on my heart and it will stay with me long after finishing.

i received this as an ARC but my opinion/review are my own!

i’ve been recommending this series to anyone with ears. the magic system is so interesting but not overwhelming. i felt super connected to secora right off the bat. her story is emotional but she remains strong and kind no matter what comes her way. the way secora and elliot come back to each other is so unique. they fit so perfectly even when they’re at odds. i wish there was more closure on the sunwalker ritual but fingers crossed it’s in the next book. 👀

thank you bree and her team! i cannot wait to read the next one!

I received this as an ARC but my opinion/review are my own!

Interesting world, interesting characters and an intriguing magic system.

The FMC is traumatized and doesn't trust anyone. Which after a while becomes tedious to read, as there is very little character growth and development in the entire book.

The MMC has mommy issues. But is otherwise a cinnamon roll.

The spice was 2/5.

Overall, I really enjoyed the first 75% of the book. I love the world and our cast of vampires and witches. The past and present was told in an excellent way, twining together to build a beautiful love story - be careful reading the CWs though. However, the last bit of the book felt rushed. I know the series isn't complete, but it felt like there was some things left for Elliott and Cora to figure out.

Thank you to the author for the early copy

ARC Review

I don't usually like second chance books, but the way this was written, the love story between the characters changed the style little bit (don't want to spoil) so it was a good read for me. Suggest reading Brees This Violent light before this so you get some inside info about the other characters and the world. (But you don't have to if you don't want!). Was hoping something more for the ending? Maybe some bigger closure.

Thank you for the ARC!

This was my first book by this author, and I absolutely devoured it in two days! It was the perfect fantastical escape after a hectic period in my life; exactly the kind of romantasy that sweeps you away.

Set in the Echo Realm, where witches, vampires, and possibly fae roam, this is book two in the series and follows Cora, an exiled witch living among vampires, and Elliott, a witch-healer and the son of a high-ranking Council member who despises Cora and her merry band of Vampires. We get a delicious mix of forbidden romance, political tension, and magical intrigue.

That Vast Hunger is also a second-chance romance, and the way this element is woven in? I adored it. I’m a huge second-chance trope lover, and this book brings such a fresh, emotional layer to it.

There’s yearning on both sides; Cora hiding it behind her impenetrable walls, and Elliott grappling with an undeniable pull toward the witch he’s been taught to fear and hate. Their journey fills in the emotional voids they’ve carried separately, until circumstances force them to work together… and realise they might be meant for more. Cora also holds a secret that could shift everything they believe about their world. I laughed, I cried, I gasped—I fell completely in love with both Cora and Elliott.

Even though this is the second book in the series, it reads beautifully as a standalone. No confusion, no inside jokes you’re expected to know, just a seamless, immersive experience. That alone gets major bonus points from me.

Overall, this is a fun, engaging romantasy that isn’t too heavy on world-building. Sometimes you just want to lose yourself in the characters, and this book delivers that perfectly. Highly recommend.

Thank you to Book Sirens and Bree Wilde for the eARC opportunity!
This review reflects my honest opinion.
📅 Publication date: January 1, 2026

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

That Vast Hunger is a standalone fantasy romance set in the Echo series, within a witches vs. vampires universe. You do not need to read This Violent Light first to enjoy this book, but I do recommend it — the additional context makes the worldbuilding and emotional layers richer.

I loved Cora’s character while reading This Violent Light, so I was so happy when I realized that this book was for her! 🫶🏻

At the heart of the story are Secora and Elliot. Elliot, the MMC, is a healer who practices biological magic, while Secora, the FMC, wields mind magic. Their connection is undeniable, with chemistry that feels natural, intense, and deeply rooted in their shared past. This is a second-chance romance, complicated by an amnesia trope, which adds both emotional tension and vulnerability to their relationship.

What stood out most to me was Bree Wilde’s writing — it is so bingable — it quietly grips you and pulls you in until you’re fully invested. The emotional pull is steady throughout, and the ending was very satisfying.

Read this if you enjoy: witches vs vampires, open-door romance that serves the story, second-chance love stories, amnesia trope, strong atmosphere and character-driven tension

I’m grateful I had the opportunity to read this early and will gladly continue reading anything Bree Wilde writes!

** I received an ARC through BookSirens and leave this review voluntarily **

I was so excited to read That Vast Hunger after having read This Violent Light and this certainly did not disappoint.

While most of the worldbuilding is already done in the first book, this book continues that in such a way that it makes it a great interconnected standalone. The book captures your attention from page one and keeps being interesting until the very end.

The characters were great. Although we already saw some of Secora in the first book, she really was such an amazing character and really got her growth in this book. I was a fan of her from the very first page.
Elliot. Elliot was my hero. He was absolutely perfect in every way and I loved him so much. Reading his POV was a lot of fun. There was great banter and I loved the slow burn between the two. And of course the HEA.

Trope wise this had everything I love, Second chances, forced proximity, sort of an enemies to lovers, amnesia, and more.
Do check your TW's though, because I somehow missed them and was a bit meh about the SA. Did check the first pages of my ebook copy but didn't see a TW page, so not sure if I missed them or if they weren't there in the book. Thankfully Bree does triggers in a good and careful was so it was quite fine.

I can really recommend this book to anyone who likes vampires and witches and a second chance plot. While it is not necessary, I do recommend reading This Violent Light first (just because it is also good)

i had the absolute pleasure of getting a advance copy of this in exchange for an honest review from Bree Wilde and BookSirens, which i am so incredibly lucky for!!! 🤍

i throughly enjoyed this story so much, i really think it healed something in me. that vast hunger is the second book that takes place in the echo realm world, with the first one being ‘this violent light’ (if you’re a tvd stan and wanted klaroline to be endgame, you’ll love it) anyways - i loved this so much. this is almost giving enzo/bonnie but reverse??? we have cora the fmc who is dark & mysterious, with trauma & a dark past, and elliot who is the goody-too-shoes, until everyone’s secrets are unveiled and now he’ll do anything to right the wrongs of the past. the pacing was great, i loved the premise and the story flowed very well. the characters have so much depth and the relationships we see develop are so special. i fell in love with cora who is such an amazing character and is so much more than her past, and elliot, who is a consent king. 🫶🏻

pls check your trigger warnings! there are some
topics and references that some readers might have trouble reading, but truthfully Bree handles these topics with so much care, written in a way that weaves them into this overall healing journey & the mc’s second chance romance.

i do highly reccomend reading ‘this violent light’ before ‘that vast hunger.’ i think you get a better feel for the world and some of the side characters that we continue to explore in this book.

ya this was so great, again thank you sm booksirens & bree wilde for the arc!!!! ‘that vast hunger’ comes out on jan 1!! 😗 so you still have time to read this violent light before release day 🙂‍↕️

He stole her heart - she stole his memories in The Vast Hunger.

Branded a Dark One from an early age, Cora never really belonged with the witches of the Day Realm - which is why she now lives in the Night Realm as an ally to the vampires. She is responsible for the creation of the potion that allows the vampires to exist in sunlight without burning - but production is slow and exhausting.

Enter Elliot. Son of the leader of the Day Realm witches, he is in search of a forbidden ingredient to help heal his mother. When Cora rescues him, he recognises her as the witch exiled for k!lling his best friend. But his needs overrule his disgust, so he reluctantly makes a deal that will benefit both.

The problem is, both Elliot and Cora are working with incomplete information…because the rest of it is stored in jars in Cora’s rooms. Whatever they uncover will change both them and their communities for a long time…

A good PNR is a wonderful thing - and this is a great PNR. Putting a nice spin on the amnesia and second chance tropes, it was a compelling read with significant growth for the characters. It is the second book of this series but it could very easily be read as a standalone.

The story deals with some significant triggers - please check before reading. It includes fade to black grape, bullying, betrayal, and social exclusion. It is a slow burn, open door (or tent) romance.

If you want a well written PNR, look no further than this compelling series.

✨ ARC Review ✨

“I have every reason to hate Secora Reed, but for some reason, I don’t.”

✨ Amnesia
✨ Second-chance romance
✨ Forced proximity
✨ Banter

This can be enjoyed as a standalone and reads very much like a romance set within a fantasy world, with the emotional journey taking precedence over plot complexity.

The story leans into memory, proximity, and shared history, allowing the relationship between Secora and Elliot to sit at the heart of the narrative. Their interactions carry the book, giving space for emotional tension and connection to develop naturally.

“When we were teenagers, I thought he was the most stunning man I’d ever seen.”

The memory scenes are especially well written, providing vivid imagery and emotional resonance without feeling over-described. They add depth to the story while keeping the pacing smooth and easy to settle into.

The world-building builds nicely on the foundations of book one, with strong use of colour and atmosphere that makes the setting feel cohesive and familiar.

“Life has always been unfair to me, but this is unjustly cruel. Having Elliot this close, seeing his blatant hatred of me… it’s a punishment fit for a villain, not for me.”

Overall, this is a character-driven read that focuses on emotional connection, shared pasts, and intimacy within a fantasy framework.

Check trigger warnings before reading.

“She loved you more than anyone, Elliot. Even herself.”

I was lucky to be sent an ARC for this book, and I'm very grateful I got to experience it. This is an honest review, and all opinions are mine.

I read "This Violent Light" last year, so I was intrigued to read "This Vast Hunger". Overall, I liked this one a lot more from the beginning. I felt more immersed in the world and I liked Cora as a main character. The first half of the book was great. I was really into the story, and intrigued by the stolen memories. I had many theories floating around (most proved to be true), and I wanted to know what would happen next, especially because I was also invested in the sun curse on the vampires from reading "This Violent Light".

I have to admit, however, towards the middle of the book, I started enjoying it less. There are two reasons for this: first, much like what I experienced reading "This Violent Light", I wish the whole book was longer. Meaning, it felt rushed toward the end. Second, in my personal opinion (and I'm sure many would disagree), once the spice started, it was all that was happening for a long time. I would've enjoyed a sliiightly slower burn before they started having sex every hour, since most of the story was based on these deep memories slowly being released back into the world, and the characters' connection growing with them.

Overall, it was an easy and enjoyable read, and I would read more of Bree Wilde's Echo series in the future(sensing a Milas book next perhaps...?).

That Vast Hunger by Bree Wilde
Release date: 1st January 2026

That vast hunger is an interconnected standalone with a second chance romance with witches, stolen memories and Vampires galore. Even though it is a standalone it is recommended by the author to read the first one: This violent light if you choose to read the series.

"Tell me Margot. Confirm what I now know is true. Tell me I once loved a monster, and she loved me back."

That Vast Hunger follows cora (Secora) a witch branded as a dark one when she was only 8 months old because she supposedly killed her parents. After being taken in by the vampire king and his clans she's finally made a life for herself, only a curse is threatening to tear her new found family apart, meaning she needs an ally to make as many sun walking potions as possible. When she's started to give up hope; in is dragged Elliot Lyrie. The son of the witch who cursed the vampires but also the one person Cora has ever loved.

That Vast Hunger, was a book I went into reading after feeling a slump coming on, and it helped prevent it. Bree Wilde has written a spectacular quick read that will help if your in a slump. The characters were pure, the love between the two MC was amazing, even though the MMC couldn't remember ever meeting the MFC his body still remembers. I think that was my favorite detail throughout the whole book.

Lovely to be back in Echo Realms and experience things from another characters perspective. I really enjoyed getting to know Cora’s character more intimately as well as experiencing life outside of the Night Realm.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

The book can be enjoyed as a stand alone, but having read the previous story adds some depth. The storyline is much more emotionally driven than that of the first book. I would class this as more of a romance in a fantasy setting.

I would like to note that should be *Trigger Warnings* for this one as it does delve into and have scenes that describe rape.

Doesn’t pack as much punch as the original in terms of plot driven story, but makes up for than in spades with emotional scope of interaction between the two main characters. A nicely paced, comfortable read, with great depictions of colour and world, building on the great foundations of book one. The memories scenes were well written given enough detail to provide picture building and emotional resonance without feeling heavily over described!

From the ending I assume there is more to come, not so much a cliffhanger, but more ‘wait, we didn’t find out if……..’

I like Cora more than Grace, but Sebastian still wins for me. Eliot is a good guy, but I like mine a bit dark and dangerous! 😉

(4.5 stars) That Vast Hunger broke my heart multiple times before piecing it back together. The author, Bree, wrote this book in such a way that every emotion is felt strongly by the reader (or at least it was for me). I finished this book a few days ago, and Cora has stayed with me since. She is such a beautifully complicated FMC and I was so thrilled that she was given her own novel in the Echo Realm.
It is difficult for me to express my thoughts on Cora without risking spoilers, but I will say her story is one of the most heart wrenching tales. Elliot’s story was also a punch to the gut. These two main characters are most deserving of a happily ever after, after all they have been through in their respective lives.
This second-chance romance is not a Hallmark movie story — there is a lot of secrets to uncover, memories to be restored, and pain to face and heal through. Buckle up and enjoy the emotional ride!
⭐️Note that while this may be read as a standalone novel, please read This Violent Light first. If you don’t, you will want to after meeting Sebastian and Grace in That Vast Hunger, so just do yourself the favour.
💜Bree — Thank you so much for the ARC copy. I can’t wait for the next Echo Realm novel! I’m excited to see who has their story told next. I hope it will be Beatrice (and maybe her and Henry get together 😏) but will be eagerly waiting to find out!

I really enjoyed this one. I loved getting to know Cora more and unwrapping everything that happened. The story flowed perfectly and was easily able to catch my interest. Did you like This Violent Light? This ones just as great, if not better. Better for me because I really liked the character of Cora. I love when a Second Chance Romance happens to feel like it worked out naturally and this one definitely did that. Nothing felt forced between the characters and getting to know Elliot was also great. Their characters fit perfectly together, and I'll definitely be reading this one again!

Elliot's PoVs were amazing as you can't help but love his character. And I was always eager once hitting his chapters to get more from him.

Cora's PoVs were engrossing and had me entirely enraptured in unwrapping the rest of the story. I'm glad that as a book 2 this didn't have to dive heavily into deep world building since most of it was previously done. It allowed the story to flow more and keep the pacing going as each bit just made you latch onto their story harder. I'm eager to read more from the author!

You can read this one as a stand-alone, but I personally find it more enjoyable having read book 1 first to get more of the world building, the overall understanding of what has happened and getting to know Cora a little bit before.

Before I get started, trigger warnings for this book are important and Bree Wilde does provide them. Please read them. That said, I don't go into sensitive material in my review.

Sebastian steals the show. MY MAN. My love for him carries on into this book as well.

For the actual book and main characters, though...

Cora's story is heartwrenching and her growth is phenomenal. Seeing hers and Elliot's love unfold was just perfect. The little moments of young love to the confusing adoration in adulthood. Beautiful.

Elliot is that bitch. THAT. BITCH. A man capable of making hard choices for the woman he loves no matter the consequences. *chefs kiss*

The book itself was a 10/10, definitely more character driven than 'plot' driven (I don't mean this in a bad way, I mean the characters themselves were the plot more than the external factors they were dealing with) and I think it was done perfectly. I was completely hooked and eating up every single scene and twist the entire time.

Cannot wait to see what else comes out of the Echo from here (hopefully keeping my current status of ARC reader in the future, but regardless, Bree Wilde will be an auto buy for me for the rest of her writing career.)

Ok, I am soooooo thrilled this book was Cora!! I loved her in TVL and knew she was going to have a hefty backstory.

I know this is a second-chance love story, and I normally steer clear of them bc they are not done well, but y'all- I loved this one. I really appreciated HOW it ended up being their second-chance, and the WHY was so painful but powerful.

5 ⭐️ for the vibes, for hooking me immediately with the witchy magical system (without it being bogged down with intricate lore and world-building), and for Cora getting her HEA.

I would consider this fast-paced and a pretty quick read. We meet some characters from book 1 again, but this is all Cora and her old flame. These two loved the shit outta each other.

One aspect that I felt was off-balanced is for this being a dual POV, Cora's character felt meatier than Elliot's. We meet more of him with memory reveals, but he was not as well-developed as Cora. It didn't make me like this any less, just a personal observation.

I can't wait to see who we meet in ghe next book!

(And PS- I'm so glad a certain someone at the end got her fate, bc I'm team vampires 😂)

Much thanks to Bree and BookSirens for the advanced copy for my honest review.

This book pulled me straight out of a reading slump, and honestly, that alone deserves applause.

I loved watching (reading?) Secora and Elliott find their way back to each other. Their connection feels so true and genuine, and the emotional tension had me waiting impatiently for the moment they’d finally stop resisting and just give in 🤭 The slow unraveling of their feelings made every interaction feel earned.

And Elliott’s love for Secora… unmatched. You truly have to appreciate a man who loves fiercely, openly, and without hesitation. It added such a beautiful emo

I knew from book one that I’d love Secora’s story. She was already such an intriguing character, and I’m so glad she finally got her own book. Seeing her perspective and growth made her even more compelling.

Just like the first book, I absolutely love the world Bree Wilde has created and the lore woven throughout the story. It adds richness without overshadowing the romance and makes everything feel fully lived-in.

Given where things currently stand with the characters… I’m really hoping we’ll be getting more books. There are definitely a few characters I’d love to know better and see get their own happy endings.

Thank you Bree Wilde for this eARC (and apologies for getting this in so late).

This was a fun follow up to This Violent Light. Learning more about Cora and her history with the witch community was cool, but also sad. She grew up being bullied due to her designation being a "Dark One." The past was so painful that Cora stored her early memories in jars and only revisited the past when necessary. With the vampires wanting to break the sun curse, Cora has to revisit the past to prepare for reconnecting with the witches that were mean to her as a kid. Enter our MMC, Elliot, who despises Cora with a passion. Forced to work together to figure out the sun curse and stop an even worse one from being activated, Elliot and Cora finally hash out their differences and what really happened in their past.

This book included lovers to enemies to lovers, and a redemption story of sorts for our FMC. It was fun getting back into this world and seeing a little more of Grace and Sebastian and the other Vampires. You don't have to read the first book to enjoy this story, but That Vast Hunger will be more enjoyable if you do, just my opinion. Definitely check out this book and the first one as well!

That Vast Hunger by Bree Wilde
An Echo Realm Novel

This is an interconnected standalone. I would say it can be read on its own but works better when you read This Violent Light first!

Thank you to BookSirens and Bree Wilde for the eARC of this book!

AHHH Cora! I love you so much and Elliot is just everything. I had such a good time with this book! I loved the characters. I loved the tenderness especially from Sebastian who is seen as this heartless vampire king. I loved that Elliot saw this and really helped to shape his opinions.

Cora is such a badass. She is labeled as a dark one but her powers are no different than any one else and the way she rolls with the punches, literally, and comes out stronger just is amazing. Can we talk about their history! You can feel the tension between Cora and Elliot!

Some parts had me sobbing and made me so mad for Cora and so mad at everyone else who played a part in keeping her down!

I love that we get all our faves back and I really really hope we are getting more books in this world because I feel like our vampires need their happily ever after too!

Okay wow. This was like 10x better than book 1 and I loved book one. Usually I’m not one for second chance but hot damn. Also can it be called second chance if he lost all his memories of her and their time together and she removed almost all her memories of him and their time together??? I’m not convinced
Anyway. I knew I was going to love Cora because we got a glimpse in book 1 and she aS amazing in that.
We get to truly understand how she ended up in the vampire den and we got to see more mushy Sebastian.
Elliot was smitten from day one and it’s honestly so adorable!
This dual POV story was amazing!!! I knew it would be but it surpassed my expectations 10x

My only qualms: I wanted more information on her being a dark one and how that is going to work out for them.
And I wanted an epilogue!!! Like it just ended!? And I was sooo sad.

Tropes: touch her and d!e, friends to lovers to enemies to lovers, lost memories, he fell first but she fell harder, she’s “cursed”, they are both witches, dual timeline(shown through memories)

Spice:🌶️.5

Thank you to the author for proving me with an arc copy of this book! If you decide you’re interested in reading it, it releases on January first, 2026!

“I forgot we existed,” I say. “I forgot you, Cora, but I don’t think my body did. I think it remembered. I think it knew what made me whole, and it wasn’t interested in settling for less.”

After finishing That Vast Hunger, I am definitely interested in reading This Violent Light. The two novels are set in the same world, and the FMC of this book, Cora, is a supporting character in the other! However, both books act as a standalone, so you don’t have to read them in any order.

In my own opinion, the spice was pretty mild, however it was open door and if you’re not used to reading spice or you don’t like to, it may be a bit too intense for you. But personally I’d rate it around a 2 out of 5 on the 🌶️ scale.

I love Elliot and Cora. I hate Harrison with everything I have, and yeah, that’s it.

“You deserve every good thing in the world,” I whisper. “That’s what I thought at sixteen. That’s what I think now.”

I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. It is important that you read the trigger warnings for this book. I loved delving back into the Echo Realm in this book and getting to spend some time in the Day Realm this time. This book brings witches, Secora and Elliot, back together after years apart and a past together that he doesn't remember. They find themselves needing to work together - Elliot to save his mother, and Secora to help her vampire friends - who are enemies of Elliot's mother. Almost immediately, Elliot begins to wonder at the feelings she brings out in him and realizes that he should remember more about her and becomes determined to get his memories back. Much of the story is told in flashbacks and I liked finding out more about them with each new memory. I really enjoyed getting to know these two very likable characters and I also loved seeing a different side of Sebastian from This Violent Light! This is a great book if someone is looking for a standalone romantasy (You don't need to have read This Violent Light)!
