The second book in Maggie Stiefvater's #1 NYT bestselling series The Raven Cycle, now gorgeously illustrated as a graphic novel!

Ronan Lynch is made of secrets. His longest kept one? He can pull impossible things out of dreams. It's a secret that's nearly killed him more than once.

Waking the corpse road should have led Blue and the Raven Boys straight to Glendower, the Whelsh king rumored to be sleeping beneath the mountains of Henrietta.

But instead, the forest of Cabeswater has disappeared, energy hums and sputters beneath the town, and the Raven Boys' search is at a dead end. Ronan's dreams may be the key to finding Glendower, but none of the Raven Boys are prepared for what will be unleashed in Ronan's desperate attempt to finally control his power.

Reimagined as a stunning full-color graphic novel adapted and illustrated by Sas Milledge, Dream Thieves blurs the line between reality and nightmare until they are one and the same.

It is in bad taste to rate your own book five stars

WHEN YOU WANT TO RATE IT ONE THOUSAND STARS!?

we're back, kids, with the graphic novel adaptation of The Dream Thieves, coming next August. Book 2 is so much more insane than book 1, and I promise Sas brought the insanity in the art.

You can pre-order signed copies from Parnassas Books (more details on swag later). Let's goooooo

*4.5. Definitely more condensed and edited than the first volume, but this series is just so magical.

I love that the Raven boys are being adapted to graphic novels as it’s taking the series to a broader audience.

However, it’s such an involved series that I find so much context and nuance is missing. We are getting fragments of the story and it’s leaving so much up to the reader to fill in the gaps or to already know the story.

Knowing and loving the story, I can fill in the blanks, but I wish we were getting more context on the page.

The illustrations are beautiful, it’s a joy to have more Raven boys and I will clearly continue reading all the books.

Thank you @penguinteenca for the copy and supporting my love for the Raven Boys.

I ended up reading this series backwards—I started with the graphic novels from a Goodreads Giveaway, and now I definitely need to go back and read the original novels. Character expressions were given life through the illustrations.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me an ARC!

It's hard to review this series of graphic novels because I feel that I am too biased to see them objectively. I love the Raven Cycle, and the Dream Thieves might be my favorite book of all time (it's definitely top 3). Because of this, it almost feels unfair to give this a rating/review because it always be as a comparison to the novel, not as its own piece of work. Sadly, there's no other way for me to do it.

As always, I really like Sas Milledge's art style. I am excited to see the final book in color because I feel like I was not fully able to appreciate the art without the gorgeous colors. She really does capture the magical feeling of the series. She draws every location and character almost exactly as I imagine them (though Kavinsky was a lot skinnier than I always imagined, but that might be my own fault haha). She really brought some of the more confusing/metaphorical parts of the book with dreaming/scrying to life. It was awesome to see some of these scenes I have read so many times but never formed a clear picture in my head laid out for me.

I also appreciated how this attempted to put more internal monologue in than I remembered in the first graphic novel. We got more of the character's inner thoughts, and I enjoyed that.

Now... the story/adaptation is where I struggled the most. Again, I have read the novel multiple times and have almost every scene burned it to my brain. I think the novel is basically perfect, so any slight changes are very noticeable to me.

This book is very condensed, even more than the first one in my opinion, which is why I decided to rate this lower. So many scenes are removed or shortened. Certain parts or lines are given to different characters. The basic essence of the story gets across, but so much of the meaning is lost. I think some parts of this are probably confusing to someone who has never read the OG books. I'm not really sure what I can say on here in specifics since this is an ARC, but you get the gist. The characters and story feel relatively accurate, but they still feel very disconnected from their complexity in the novel. I like Gansey, Blue, Adam, Ronan, etc. in these graphic novels, but it's a very surface level enjoyment. In the novels, I loved them and felt connected to them as characters. They felt like real people to me. All of that character depth just doesn't come across here. A lot of the character development is not as impactful or clear because we don't hit every necessary beat the novel did.

People often say the plot of the Raven Cycle is non-sensical/nonexistent, and I have never agreed. It's a character focused story, but to me, the plot was always present and clear. However, reading this, I think I experienced the plot in the way people who do not love the OG series often describe it. Because of all the cut content, lack of backstories, rushed storylines, and lack of explanation for certain events, the plot felt so much less compelling, well developed, and well-paced as it is in the Dream Thieves. Things happened way too fast and without explanation. Almost all the moments of brevity are removed. So much impact is lost.

To finish this off, I want to say that I still had a good time with this. These disappointments nagged at me, but it still brought me joy to see a lot of my favorite scenes in literature drawn so beautifully. These are my favorite books that have been with me through my teen and young adult years, so getting to consume them in a new format is fun and nostalgic. I will continue with the rest of the series because I still appreciate them and are entertained by them as easy reads, and I love the artwork. I just think I have to accept that they aren't the best adaptations, and that's okay.

As someone who read the original books of this series I have to say the graphic novel really stayed true to the book while bringing the different chapters to life. While this is the ARC edition and not the full color version I am so in awe of the art style in this graphic novel. The characters and the scenes, the backgrounds, it all looked so amazing. And the text part was easy and clear to read which isn’t always the case with some graphic novels unfortunately.

For my comments about the story; I liked how it put the spotlight on Ronan for this book but kept the other characters stories included on the side as well seeing how each of them played a role in the plot of the series. I really enjoyed Noah and Ronan joking around like they were siblings.

Adam and Blue’s relationship though has always been a bit of mixed feelings for me, it never felt right to me and while I know why with the original books, seeing them try and force the relationship is a little frustrating in a way. I know it progresses the plot and they realize some things about themselves later. I just honestly really like their friendship better. I will say though there is an air of wholesomeness to their relationship and getting to see it as a first love for them and also getting to see them progress as characters.

(Note: I received this copy from the publisher PenguinTeen and VikingBooks in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to them both for the opportunity to review this graphic novel.)

I received an ARC from the publisher through work (bookseller).

I try my best to view the graphic novels as their own seperate thing, especially knowing that you can't translate (for lack of a better word) every detail from a 400 page book into a single graphic novel. I do have to admit that it's hard for me to do so, since TRC has been my favorite series for 11 years and I've re-read it at least once a year ever since, so I know the books backwards and forwards at this point. All that being said, I think this one could have greatly benefited from being split into two volumes. Things move incredibly fast in this one and a lot of details were sacrificed that I think both enrich the story and also provide some pretty hefty character develop for all of the gang. While the first volume also had a bit of that working against it, I still found it to be the stronger volume of the two that are currently out. This one was still a fun time, and I'm very excited to see the final full-color edition because I can already imagine how stunning the illustrations will be then, but nothing can live up to the masterpiece that is the original novels.

I did really appreciate the lines that were copied verbatim from the books. We did get a lot of great, iconic moments in this one, just not all the ones I would have hoped for.

At the end of the day, it's hard to be too disappointed by the graphic novels when I know I always have the original novels to return to. These are just a fun addition for me.

(I still love Gansey more than anything lol)

I think this is the longest review I’ve ever written here? For a graphic novel for tweens? Whatever I hope my fans enjoy it xx

In my heart this is 5,000 stars but my head says I have to give it more like 4.5

Won this early copy at a talk by the author and it made my literal month which just goes to show I cannot possibly be objective about it lol but if i had to try - the illustrations are GORGEOUS, so atmospheric and really fit the vibe of the novels, which is arguably their most important aspect, and it is SO fun actually seeing characters which have felt like friends since I was 14! That being said I am not entirely sure it would totally make sense without any knowledge of the original story (I didn’t care even a bit, but in the pursuit of objectivity) and I am mourning a few plot points which were cut, though I know things had to be for this to not have been 500+ pages long even though I would have been thrilled to stare at 1000 pages and am so sad I could not possibly draw it out any longer.
If you see me with the actual novel anytime soon… no comments on the relapse please.

I found this book rather disappointing. I get that it is the second book in a series but it started so abruptly it felt more like I was opening a book to the middle and beginning there.

While I was reading an ARC which is why the book was in black and white I still wasn’t impressed. Specifically sometimes the same characters on one page would have vastly different proportions compared to each other and a certain character’s facial features seemed to change shape from page to page.

From reading comments apparently there is supposed to be some sort of gay theme to this story? If there is it is completely missing from the book. In fact it feels like the book goes out of its way to make it clear that the characters do NOT have those kind of feelings for each other.

Once I finally started to somewhat understand the story (about 2/3 through) it was decent, but I definitely wouldn’t read this book again. Pretty disappointing overall.

Like the first, The Dream Thieves graphic novel delivers on so many fantastic levels, embodying all the gritty, supernatural strangeness of the original novel.

The second book has always been my favorite a little more than all the rest. Ronan is at its heart—his, a somber, mystical story that is full of dreams and secrets. Adam, too, has his own secrets to grapple with as he tries to understand his new connection to Cabeswater.

Seeing this book and its many complicated characters come to life with such extraordinary illustrations is truly the best thing ever. The magic of the novels is made new!

This series is just so singular and perfect, I’ll never get over it.

Thank you PRH for the ARC🫶🏼🐦‍⬛🌿

Still so happy they turned this series into graphic novels!!

As someone who can struggle with visualizing fantasy elements having an illustrated version has been so helpful for me to fully understand this story. I have read the books a couple of times now and while reading the GN I often found myself just going "ohhhhh that's what they meant" lol

If you have loved the book series previously I recommend checking the GN version as well! I can guarantee you'll appreciate it!

Thank you Netgalley for the E-ARC and the publishers for the physical ARC!

I absolutely loved this graphic novel adaptation of Maggie Stiefvater's The Dream Thieves, and highly recommend it for fans of the original series.

I had some reservations about the first volume (The Raven Boys: The Graphic Novel, 2025), and having read volume 2, I suspect that these graphic novel adaptations will be best enjoyed by those who've read the original novels.

Perhaps I'm wrong; time will tell once I have a chance to try these out on someone who's new to the series.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE AT PENGUIN FOR THIS ARC!! <33

I love these books so much, and it’s so fun to be able to see it in another form. I do have to say though, I really really recommend everyone read the books first!! Obviously the graphic novel is not able to tell the story as in depth, and it would just be very sad to read this in place of the og! But these are such fun treats for the fans, I love them <3

**4.5 stars. ARC provided by Penguin Teen (thank you x100!)**

This book is surely difficult to adapt but somehow they kept intact the heartbeat that gives it its life.

"Many thieves. One greywaren."

Though this is very much a truncated version of the novel I love so much, I still found it to be very enjoyable and compulsively readable. It was surreal to see the visual representation of Kavinsky and Ronan's night horrors brought to life on the page and how Cabeswater weaves in and out of scenes. I can't wait to get my hands on a final copy!

i love love love this book so much. i forgot how much character exploration there was here, especially with ronan. i remember not liking ronan much in the first book, and then liking him a lot after this one, which was fun to see again with the graphic novel. i fear there was so much missing though, especially with adam and gansey & blue (late night phone calls!!)!!
