Step into the warm holiday glow of Pemberley Estate and witness an unexpected romance unfold in Miss Christmas at Pemberley. At last, bookish middle sister, Mary Bennet—forever eclipsed by her sisters’ romantic escapades—takes center stage.
Mary’s world brightens with possibility when a surprising gentleman arrives for Christmas at the Darcy residence. Their shared intellectual passions and endearing social awkwardness create immediate sparks. Capturing the essence of Jane Austen's beloved masterpiece while infusing it with crackling contemporary wit and humor, this delightful continuation breathes new life into the cherished characters and world of Pride and Prejudice.
Jane Austen is literally my favorite classic author, and I love Pride And Prejudice. To find that someone gave Mary Bennet a happy ending as well makes my heart so happy, I loved this book so much! This will probably become an annual listen around Christmas for me, it was just so cute.
Impressive Full-cast Performance This audiobook was delightful to listen to, with excellent performances by the full cast. Truly perfect choices for each character voice. Highly recommend.
Well done, Audible. A creative take on Mary Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. Consistent with the classic characters we know and love and surprisingly comical. This is worth another listen in the future.
Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley is by far the best audiobook I’ve ever heard! It was the first book I read this year, or rather, heard, and I am convinced it will be on my favorites list by the end of the year! I am very happy to have started the year with such a wonderful book!
Set at Pemberley during Christmas, the story unfolds after Darcy and Elizabeth’s marriage. And although almost all Bennet sisters are present at the estate, the focus is clearly on Mary. We get to see how different she becomes when she is no longer overshadowed by her sisters, and while this is a light and very funny story, I truly appreciated the thoughtful touches of self-discovery and character development added by the authors.
I loved the conversations between Mary Bennet and Arthur, particularly when they reflected on happiness and the choices we have in life. The book shows that what brings happiness to one person may not do so for another, and I appreciated the mature way this idea was explored while also highlighting the different limitations men and women face when it comes to pursuing their own happiness. Apart from their conversations, I also loved their personalities and their love story. I loved seeing them getting along and falling in love, they truly were perfect for each other. It was also funny to see how everyone started matchmaking to help them get to an understanding.
While I loved Mary and Arthur’s characters, the humor in this audiobook is certainly its greatest strength. I laughed out loud several times during the exchanges between the sisters, Elizabeth in particular, but also in the dialogues between Bingley, Darcy, and Arthur. The way the characters speak to one another feels very natural, as if they know each other so well that their ease and familiarity make their comments genuinely funny. The dialogue also stays true to each character’s personality, which is why Bingley’s remarks are especially amusing, I could clearly picture him repeating the same advice to Arthur over and over again.
As the story progresses, it develops a warm sense of family closeness and coziness, and even Lydia is redeemed and welcomed back into the family, as they finally understand her struggles and her behavior. It was amazing to see all these characters interacting and truly connecting with one another, despite their differences. They were a happy and funny family 😊
All in all, this audiobook was perfectly written and perfectly interpreted by the narrators who gave a whole new life to the story! This book is in fact a play that was meant to be narrated, and I can safely say that much of the humor would not have landed the same way without the narrators’ magnificent interpretations. Plus, all the sounds and music that accompanies the narration make this audiobook incredibly vivid!
Honestly, everything about this audiobook felt perfect: the characters, their development, their interactions, the funny dialogues, and of course the narration and production, which was the cherry on top of the cake.
I cannot recommend this audiobook enough, it is worth every single minute of your time and is an absolute must-listen 😊 I would give it 6 stars if I could 😊
Not going to lie, I adored this!! This was fun and whimsy and sooo Mary. I loved that she got her perfect match and HEA. I would’ve loved to have Kitty thrown in the mix. It was so cozy to have the Bennet sisters back together again.
Awww so cute this continuation of Pride and Prejudice. Glad that Mary had her happy ending!!❤️❤️❤️ and Lydia 🙄 patience with her, but she reaped what she sowed.
Jane Austen spin-offs are always a hit or miss, but this one fell somewhere in the middle. This Audible original is just a short little novella. It was about Mary, who even in Austen spin-offs, usually gets neglected. The author ran with the fact that Mary was much improved by her older sisters marrying well, and we have a Mary who is still bookish but no longer awkward - in fact she has developed an incredibly dry wit. And though I felt this took Mary Bennet out of Austen’s portrayal of her character, it was actually quite funny. There is a new De Bourgh relative. One of the parts I laughed out loud at was Mr. De Bourgh talking with Darcy and Bingley about falling in love. I did not care for the portrayal of Anne De Bourgh. It was way too far off for me to even find it believable. So basically hits and misses both in this little novella, but I’d say it was not time wasted.
This was a short novella that incorporates many of the characters from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I was glad to see Mary get her happy ever after and hear some fun updates on the other sisters as well, but this did feel a bit too short and needed more time to let the story truly develop. I didn’t love some of the unnecessary drama either. It’s a quick audio listen and the cast did a great job, so if you’re looking for something short and sweet during the busy holidays, this might be a good pick.
So.. I had mixed feelings. I absolutely loved another full cast audiobook but I couldn’t grasp the change in characters. I could understand growth from Mary but I truly couldn’t match her character to the original novel. Mary was one thing but Ann? Who was she? I would have liked this more if it was a tad more accurate.
A very cute novella about Mary Bennet’s finding love. I love a different view where the least boastful sister gets a spot light and an equally matched partner. It was fun to see the brotherly banter of Darcy and Bingley but I do think Ann’s character was too far of a divergence from the sickly character so carefully displayed in the original Pride and Prejudice novel.
3.5 ⭐️ Every year, I think I should read some Christmas stories and watch more Christmas movies and every year December gets too busy. This year I’m determined to consume more Christmas media. 😆 This was a fun short story and better than most P&P spinoffs I’ve tried.
I love JAFF, and this continuation of P&P told the story of Mary. It was so heartwarming seeing Mary coming into her own, finding love and having her own HEA. I recommend this sweet story. The cast of narrators were fabulous!
