Review for complete series

This sequel to one of my long standing favourite manga does its predecesor a huge disservice. Kamichama Karin may not be a perfect manga, but is charming with loveable characters and a wacky plot. This sequel attempts to be more serious but it simply does not work with the otherwise cute art and sugary cliches I associate with books for a much younger audience.

The characters have lost all their charisma - neither Karin nor Kazune have any of their old spunk and they are just your average shoujo manga couple who pine for each other even though they're already in a relationship - lots of pointless drama. Himeka - the only other major female character - gets conveniently shipped abroad turning this into a reverse harem for Karin. She's the only notable female character surrounded by guys who are in love with her for no apparent reason and despite knowing she is in a relationship. I am not saying Karin isn't a desirable character, but it is so off from what we know of her in the original story and there is no build up that explains why others suddenly want her.

I wasn't expecting this to be as good as the original but I did hope that it would answer some of what was left unaddressed in the original. I was disappointed to find that this takes on an entirely new route that just screams magical girl cliche. Don't get me wrong, I like a good magical girl manga, but they can very easily tip into cringe territory. Thanks to the humour, the original handled the magical girl (and boy) aspect well. The sequel adds lots of sparkle and bling, the outfits become more and more cutesy and it's all about love evolution and other generic magical girl phrases.

I've seen others say that at least the art has become better - I disagree. It might seem a wee bit more modern but it ultimately feels lazy and I kept missing the original style where all of Koge-Donbo's humour was delivered. In addition, there was quite a bit of sexualisation of the characters which just didn't sit right with the rest of the plot and also how old are these characters? I don't recall whether their age was ever revealed but I always thought of them as 14-year-olds or something around that.

Toward the end, things started to move back to the original plot and we did actually get a few answers but by that time the characters had been so mistreated by poor writing, rushed art and a gross overdose of cute, that I stopped caring. These are not the characters I love and I think I will strike this sequel from memory. I may not get all the answers I want from the original alone but I will not sully the original by ever rereading or considering this uninspired sequel.

Como ya dije la historia es muy infantil y no tiene mucha chica. Las peleas son absurdan y literal duran una página. Leeré el siguiente tomo a ver si mejora.
El dibujo tampoco es que me encante pero Karin se ve super dulce y un cielo 😍

I was dissapointed with the first volume of the sequel just because I was aware of how great the prequel series was compared to this.

The plot seemed messy and confusing at times, it was difficult to get a grasp on what was going on. I personally, would have put the extra at the beginning, just to help stem the tide and generally make it more coherent. In addition, alot of things happened all at once and the panels seemed too full. It was just a hot mess really.

However, the artwork is even better in this one, although I really do miss the funny chibis. Seriously, it's so beautiful that even if I don't like the rest of the series I wont regret buying the set because they can just sit all pretty on my shelf. In addition, there were still some really funny bits and it was great to see my favourite characters again.

Karin may have lost some of her spark but I can still see hints of the original Karin and Kazune and hopefully they wont have changed too much in the next volumes. I'm still optimistic.

Koge-Dono you will always be my art idol. I have loved your art ever since I was 13. But…gosh girl I had such high hopes for this series 😭

This sequel . . . makes me mad.

If you've read Volume One of Kamichama Karin to Volume 7 of Kamichama Karin Chu, you'd understand what I mean.

(I actually started Kamichama Karin Chu BEFORE Kamichama Karin, and I really, really, really, really LOVED IT. I would keep reading it over and over and over and over and over until my brain would start SIZZLING. But that had to be at least 4 years ago.)

Karin seems like a different person!

In Kamichama Karin, she'd always use these weird responses and sayings.
"MUSH-FOR-BRAINS!"
"I hear you, screamy!"
"Merciful heavens!"

I loved that! That's what always made her so hilarious! When I needed a laugh, Karin could certainly give it to me.

But in Kamichama Karin Chu, she's different. She's just like any other majorly shoujo anime girl, blushing when a guy stepped within her 5 feet wide bubble of personal space, squealing, and just a little bit . . . Mary Sue-ish.

She wouldn't say those funny sayings anymore!! It was only in the short stories at the ends of the books that she'd use them, and it's only because those were probably written before Kamichama Karin Chu was created. (The settings were usually placed in the time of Kamichama Karin.)

Even though the art now is about a million times prettier, and the manga looks way, way fancier and girlier, I really, really miss Karin's floppy, carefree, weirdo self.

The manga's still pretty funny in it's own way. Just . . . not like how it was in Kamichama Karin.

Still . . .

1. The art is really, really pretty. You can't expect anything less from Koge Donbo in her mastery of cuteness.

2. If you're looking for a huge buttload of drama, this would be the manga to read. (By drama, I mean the kind where these huge, major things happen to make readers gasp long wheezing gasps.)

It's been so long since I'd read series one of *Kamichama Karin*, that I thought I'd have forgotten most of what happened, but as I read Vol.1 of series 2, *Kamichama Karin Chu♥", scenes from the wonderful anime and manga kept playing in my head.
That having been said....
I love this series just as much as the original it follows up. Karin and Kazune are back, and they already know that they marry in the future, and that (the "good") Himeka-Chan is their future daughter. But, this time around, a mysterious young boy, Suzune-Kun shows up calling Karin "Mommy!" and Kazune "Daddy!". And, they figure out that he is indeed their future son.
Suzune leave Karin in charge of finding "The Three Noble Gods". Kazune is one of them, and an idol named Jin turns out to be one of them. But, could it be possible that Micchi is also one of them? Yes, indeed...anything is possible in the world of Koge-Donbo!

There's also a cute prequel story included as a bonus story in this volume. It's one where you are made to believe that Kazune is going to study abroad. But, it's not him, who is going to. Who is it?

I read and saw the manga and anime a few years ago, and decided it would be a good idea to start again.

Since I still can remember most of the first manga, I decided to go for the second manga first.

And what a trip it was. Karin-chan was so adorable and she has her own harem of men again. Kazune is of course also around and I love their interaction, how the go from love love to hate and kyaaa.

We got new transformations in this manga, and also new antagonists. I am quite curious as to how it will unfold and how everything will go. I would say more, but since this is the second manga, I might spoil quite a bit, and I don't want that to happen.

So I will just say, read this series and of course the previous one.

Just like before, I busted out laughing when I read this. Taking place before the main story of Kamichama Karin, it tells of the search for the three Noble Gods and gives a glimpse at what is to come. I had high expectations for this book and I was definitely not disappointed. It hints at future conflict as well as oncoming hilarity and mischief. I would recommend this to anyone who has read Kamichama Karin, as well as anyone who hasn’t but wants to. If you aren't a fan of this genre of manga, I ask you to keep an open mind and not judge this series before reading it. I have a feeling that this will be an excellent series.

I had higher hopes for this series, since the "prequel" series - Kamichama Karin - was actually quite cute and had an interesting plot line. This follow up really disappointed me. It felt like a jumbled mess, with only bits and pieces left over of the original character's personalilites. I may have missed something along the way, but I would read the prequel first and see what you think. There were way too many "what the--?" moments for me. Normally love Koge-Donbo's work, just couldn't follow this one.

what. the. hell. SO i bought this at a book thrift store essentially, and i didnt know it was a sequel. But I read it anyways when i was younger and now looking back on it: WHY?? Like i love love love the art style and the character designs are super cute, but that whole part where they all got turned into babies, and then that one guy tried essentially raping the main character AFTER they got turned into babies? maybe it just irked me the wrong way, but it just felt like creepy fan service

A good book. I really liked the first series because it was funny, and I hope that this after-series can be just as good. I think it's just as funny as the first series.

I love the manga series, I love the anime. And I definitely love Karin. She's always so innocent and adorable. No matter how she acts, she's quite cute.
