Whoever convinced me that sleeping with the hot co-owner of PUMPT Gym was a good idea should be tied to a tree and left in the woods to rot.
Too bad I'm the only one to blame.
There’s something about Dex that captured my attention the moment I first saw him, and no matter what I do, I can’t get him out of my head.
But there’s one tiny problem.
He's hearing. And he doesn’t sign. Oh, and he’s also the brother of the guy my ex is in love with.
But while three years working in another country with an ocean between us should have cured my addiction, the second I see Dex again, he’s all I want. And this time, it’s worse. This time, he’s learned my language, and he uses his hands to tell me exactly what he thinks of me.
And exactly what he wants to do when he gets his hands on me. And his lips. And his tongue.
In spite of my own rules against dating men like him, I find myself wanting to break down all the walls I’ve built up. But will giving in to Dex make me the world’s biggest hypocrite?
Or will I be making the best decision of my life?
PAH! is the third book in the Deaf Hearts series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It’s a spicy, MM, enemies to lovers rom-com featuring a burnt out, Deaf corporate cog with a country-sized chip on his shoulder, a hearing, sexy-sweet, gym owning himbo who is learning to take what he wants, especially when it’s offered, bad dates, better dates, A+ dates, light stalking, and a happily ever after.

PAH! is a fantastic second-chance romance between golden retriever Dex and grumpy Rome. Their steamy beginning sets the stage for their dynamic, which is then suddenly upended by a three-year time jump. I really appreciated this gap in time because it allowed Dex to become so proficient in ASL, which shocks Rome, upends his assumptions, and creates many new dynamics in their relationship.
Overall, the journey that Rome and Dex go on is perfect for their dynamic. These two really care for one another, and, given their shared history, their reunion is nothing short of hilariously awkward, with many misunderstandings. I also really enjoy the grading system Dex employs toward Rome as he struggles to express his feelings and emotions to someone he actually cares about. These two are perfect for one another, and watching them slowly crawl toward their HEA is highly entertaining and sweet to see.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
4.5 stars I'm so happy these authors decided to give Rome his HEA, he definitely deserved it. Even if he was rude with Thom and treated him very badly, it was very clear that he was also very much in pain because of what happened to him with his first (hearing) boyfriend. Rome appears as a very handsome grumpy guy, shielded by a thick armour that no one has ever broken and he's very frustrated because of his strong attraction to Dex, a hearing man who, by default, he should stay away from.
Dex is a wonderful character, I loved that he was committed to learning ASL not only to communicate with Rome, but also to make people feel included. I liked his relationship with his brother Thom and his partner, Robbie. Dex is an easygoing guy and he welcomed his own bisexual awakening without drama.
I adored the intimacy of Rome and Dex's interactions and the slow progression of their relationship: the authors didn't just tell us that they loved each other, but they really showed us how Dex and Rome's feelings grew and became so big that they couldn't keep contained anymore.
What prevented me from giving five full stars: I found their lack of communication a little frustrating. It was obviously necessary at first, when they didn't know each other, but when Rome was back and they started dating, their struggles to talk about feelings were too much. And the story is quite long so it felt like things were being dragged out.
I liked Lexi very much! Finally a strong wonderful female character who isn't a know-it-all nor crosses boundaries. The epilogue is so very interesting! I can't wait for the new series to come out!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
I really, really love a good redemption arc when it’s done well, and Rome’s definitely delivers. Now, you have to read books 1 and 2 to fully enjoy the experience. From the moment we first met him in Kiss Fist as Robbie’s disgruntled former FWB, he was easy to dislike, a total jerk, bitter about their situationship ending, and especially salty about being left for a hearing guy.
Then in ILY, we finally start to see the cracks in his armor. His attraction to Dex, the lovable, himbo gym co owner who also happens to be Thom’s (Robbie’s boyfriend… ouch) brother, was the beginning of him really unraveling. They have a drunken hook up, that only makes things more complicated. Both are left super confused, but for totally different reasons.
Rome is furious with himself because he despises hearing guys after a traumatic experience when he was younger, so the idea of being drawn to one absolutely wrecks him. Dex, meanwhile, has always thought of himself as straight, yet he can’t deny that Rome flips something in him he can’t explain.
Despite all that confusion, they just can’t stay away from each other. Dex genuinely wants to explore what they could be, but Rome, who’s super jaded, bolts. He literally runs off to France for three years, leaving Dex completely ghosted. But the connection between them never really fades, and when Rome finally comes back, they fall right back into the same intense pull they had before.
The grumpy/sunshine dynamic between them is honestly one of my favorite things about this story. Dex is sweet, caring, and so effortlessly endearing. He puts his feelings out there without hesitation, and he’s willing to put in the work. Rome, on the other hand, is cautious and wary, but Dex makes him show up, and Rome slowly realizes he wants to try, even if it scares him.
They’re genuinely perfect for each other, you can’t help rooting for them the whole way through.
One of the things I especially loved was how Dex immerses himself in the Deaf world. He learns the language, makes an effort to understand Rome’s perspective, and tries to support him in ways no one else has. Watching him recognize the hurt and mistrust Rome carries, and then actively work to bridge that gap, was incredibly touching.
As with the rest of the series, the spice is definitely there, but it’s the character development that really makes everything shine. And the authors’ love and respect for the Deaf community continues to be one of the strongest parts of these stories. I feel like I’ve genuinely learned so much through these 3.5 books.
I’m really loving this series. Dex and Rome are easily my favorite couple so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
4⭐️ The delightful third book in the Deaf Hearts series! This story follows Dex, the co-owner of Pumped (the gym), and Rome, a friend of Dex’s brother’s partner, Robbie. (You’ve gotta read book 1 and 2 to get to know all the characters!)
Rome is dead-set on never dating a hearing guy, but can’t resist Dex and his friendly, sexy charm. On the other hand, Dex has never dated men, but is very open to whatever he has going on with Rome.
You’re going to get fun content in this book, such as: -grumpy/sunshine -deaf / hearing couple -one-sided animosity to hookups to strangers to lovers -Michael being evil, and nasty shelter cats -some beloved characters from the series, and some new, mysterious characters introduced -bad communication (not because of a language barrier. Rome is just bad at talking about his feelings)
This book has a mix of elements that make it interesting to follow. You absolutely must read this series in order, because this story starts of right in the middle of Dex and Rome’s established dynamic. This book has a heavy focus on Dex learning to love, accept himself, and accept others. Of course, the romance is the key factor, and these two are really cute. Dex grades Rome on his date etiquette, and it’s very fun!
This book also sets up some interesting groundwork for the next books in the series! It seems that the Deaf Hearts books will take a darker turn in the future, and I’m ALL for it. Though I did like Dex and Rome, the build up to the next books got me most excited!
That being said, Rome’s character development was amazing. I loved reading his journey! Plus, as usual, this story made me laugh and smile 🥰
I enjoyed this book so much. The authors and series are new to me, but undoubtedly a series i will return to. The crossover characters are great and the general premise of the series is completely different to anything else I have read.
It's not a dark read and honestly I wasnt disappointed. It was refreshing to step out of my norm.
The authors have respectfully produced a series based on the deaf community, inclusivity and the societal struggles a deaf person encounters, not just throughout day to day life but also in relationships.
Dex and Rome's story sucked me in from the beginning, following their navigation into new territory for them both. Dex, our gym owner with his bi-awakening and Rome, the grumpy, reluctant brother's boyfriends ex, learning to overcome his insecurities of a previous relationship.
The spice in this was off the scale! - these authors know how to write MM scenes 🥵
The dynamic between Dex and Rome was well balanced with humour and seriousness, I found myself smiling at their exchanges so much - they were so cute together and the dating strategy was so original.
I loved the incorporation of the side characters and of course the epilogue sets us up for whats coming next - rest assured, you'll be seeing more reviews of this series, these authors work so well together.
I would definately describe this as a feel good book, its light and reads phenomenally well, with well balanced chemistry and tension surrounding relationship development and finding love and acceptance. Perfect for after a particularly heavily triggered read.
MM Contemporary Romance - Second chance - Strangers to Enemies - High Heat - Angry S3x- Hearing x Deaf - Enemies to lovers - Found family -Emotional Burn.
As always, the amount of joy I get from reading a story from these authors is unmatched 💞
So, the backgrounds of these main characters is a bit complicated 🙈 we meet Dex, who is Thom's brother and Roman, who used to have a crush on Robbie, whom we've met in part one of this series. So, everybody knows each other, right. That really makes things more difficult for sure.
Rome has had bad experiences with hearing people and he really has a hard time trusting someone. He definitely is a bit of a grump, but in the most loveable way 🥰 Dex has lots of contact with hearing people, and he is learning ASL.
Both of them are amazing guys, and I rooted for them to get together like crazy.
This author duo really never fails to make me love, it's fantastic 😅 can’t wait for more 🙂↕️
-mm romance -enemies to lovers -hearing/deaf -slow emotional burn -high heat hate sex -hurt/comfort -affection starved -found family
gahhhh there is just so much i loved about these two! like yk parts of me was like yo just communicate...but then its like...there is this whole ass language barrier complication in the way of that. duh! but the time jump & dex being SOOOO there for rome was everything!! gahhh i loved them!!
And we’re back in the Deaf Hearts world with Rome and Dex’s story.
What you’ll find inside: - Grumpy / Sunshine 🐈⬛☀️ - Second chance - Nerd / Himbo energy - Redemption arc - Grades (iykyk) 🗒️ - Deaf / Hearing 🤟 - Angry cats 🐈 - Michael cameo
I’ll be honest, after what Rome pulled in book one with Robbie and Thom, I was not convinced he was redeemable. But once again, the authors proved me wrong. (I still haven’t recovered from Mitch in Reluctantly You …top-tier redemption.)
(Grumpy) Rome and (golden retriever) Dex start with a chaotic, drunken night out with friends… and end with Rome on his knees in Dex’s kitchen. But since Rome refuses to date a hearing man, he immediately pulls a disappearing act.
What I didn’t expect was how sweet and genuinely funny this story would be. Rome’s redemption arc is handled beautifully, and Dex absolutely makes him work for it, which leads to some hilarious and emotional moments.
I loved their story, and honestly, I love this entire world. The side characters always bring something unique, and the new additions fit perfectly. And seriously : read the epilogue. You’ll want to know what’s coming next.
This is easily my favorite book in the series so far. Dex and Rome completely stole my heart. I’m such a sucker for grumpy x sunshine, and these two do it so well. Dex is openly soft, patient, and sincere. He doesn’t play games with his feelings and isn’t afraid to show up fully, even when it’s hard. Rome is more guarded and hesitant, shaped by past hurt and mistrust, but watching him slowly let Dex in felt so real and earned. You can actually see the moment where he decides that love might be worth the risk.
What really made this story stand out for me was the care put into how Dex steps into Rome’s world. He doesn’t just fall in love with Rome. He puts in the effort to understand him, to learn, to listen, and to respect the Deaf community and Rome’s lived experiences. Seeing Dex recognize Rome’s pain and actively try to bridge that distance was incredibly moving. Their connection felt intentional, gentle, and deeply supportive, and I couldn’t help rooting for them every step of the way.
I knew i was going to absolutely love Rome. I knew i already loved Dex, that was a given lol hes a himbo with a heart of gold and who wouldn't love that. My weakness is broken angry boys finding love after someone treated them so terribly that they became angry and broken. Reading them heal in a beautiful relationship always makes my heart so happy. I just love love ❤️ Rome was hard to like in the 1st book of this series and I just knew the pay off of getting his HEA was going to be worth it. I feel like I know the characters from the cat cafe from another book but I could be wrong. Either way I cant wait for this next book of this new series eeeeekkkkk im excited.
Rome needed his HEA. His past relationship truly left him traumatized that going into another one, especially with a hearing man, wasn't something he wanted. And when he started to give in, it was really hard for him to move past the past and allow himself a new future. Dex was exactly who Rome needed. Their relationship takes time, they put in the work, and they both see what it's like to be with someone who truly loves you.
And that peak into the next series?! I cannot wait for that!
ARC Review: PAH! is such an emotional, light-hearted, spicy book that gave me all the feels. I loved the supporting characters soooo much, I loved watching Rome fall for Dex so stunningly and I loved the way Dennis accepted Rome. Highly recommended 💚
I do love a good redemption story, and I was eagerly awaiting this one.
Roman was definitely the resentful ex in Thom and Robbie’s story (Kiss-Fist), and his initial behaviour in this book matches up with what we’d expect from him: angry and bitter. He’s a real pricky pear, and it’s obvious he hates his attraction to Dex, a hearing man, at the beginning, but can’t resist him. Their chemistry is undeniable. I’ll be honest, it did make me smirk that Dex could just show off his abs and make Rome turn into putty…
When Roman leaves for three years without telling the gym owner, you can be sure that that was another point in the ‘being a dick’ column for him! But, as I got to know Rome better and eventually learnt his background, I had a lot more sympathy for him.
In the end, I think those three years away were exactly what Rome needed to clear his head and figure out his real feelings for Sex – whoops sorry, I obviously mean Dex (IYKYK). I genuinely ended up routing for him to find someone who could show him that having a hearing partner wasn’t so bad.
For all Rome’s scowls and glowers, he really just needed to find the right person. Dex was perfect for this role, and I adored that we got to see the loyal, older brother of Thom again. He's sweet and big hearted and manages to find a different side to Rome that others haven't seen. These two are such a good representation of grumpy/sunshine.
But despite my change of heart, I didn’t think Rome should be let off easily for his previous behaviour, and I was super proud when Dex stood up for himself after Roman’s reappearance. I thought the grading system for dates was genius! Rome needed to buck up his ideas and grovel a bit after his past actions, but all Dex really wants is for the other man to open up, and feel comfortable with him, and that made me feel a bit gooey.
I loved that Dex learns ASL of his own accord and didn’t expect Roman to use his voice, but that Rome does because he wants to. It spoke so much of what a genuinely good person Dex is and hinted both at how real Roman’s feelings are – though admittedly reluctantly at first – and to how much he trusts the other man.
I’ll admit it did tickle me a bit that both our grumps who were in a FWB relationship (Robbie and Roman) went on to fall for our big-hearted, gym-owning, hearing brothers!
I really appreciated that the three-year time jump also meant we could see how the previous characters were getting on. Thom’s still the ray of sunshine we know and love, and Robbie’s still on hand with those infamous gummies. Leaf’s still being his adorable self with loyal, protective Thorne, and Michael’s up to his usual mischief.
I've loved this series so much and I'm excited for what comes next in this world!

I received an ARC copy of this book by the author and The Author Agency, and this is my honest review.

Some of my favourite quotes
I want this—I want him—more than I’ve ever wanted anyone before.
He’s a bad habit. One I can’t quit. And one I’m not sure I want to.
I need to ask him what the fuck he’s doing with me. Why he’s so intent on icing me out when we burn so brilliantly when we’re together.
He’s light to my dark, sunshine to my rain cloud. He’s brave when I’m a fucking coward, and strong when I feel at my weakest.
He’s quite the grumpy gentleman when he wants to be. It’s so fucking endearing. I love it, but it’s also doing dangerous things to my heart.
Dex is low risk, high reward. He’s given me so much. He’s stepped into my world instead of demanding it be the other way around.
‘I’m sorry I hurt you before. I was angry at myself for wanting you, and I took it out on you. But I don’t want to be that person anymore. I like you. I want you to be mine.’
‘I want you comfortable. I want you to feel free here.’
I love the early morning glow. It reminds me of Rome when he smiles. How it lights up a fucking room. How it lights up my life.
It feels like Dex has fundamentally changed who I am as a person, and as much as that should probably piss me off, it doesn’t. Maybe because he’s the exception to all of my rules. He’s proven to be everything I assumed he wasn’t.
‘I’ll be here whenever you’re ready. I’m not going anywhere.’
‘I want to be with you. Rings or no rings. None of that matters. What matters is I love you. What matters is you’re mine.’
‘I feel so much when I’m with you, and it scares me. But I like it.’
‘We are perfect now. If it happened earlier, maybe it would be less perfect. You needed time. I needed time.’
‘What you thinking about?’ ‘Just future plans.’ ‘With me?’ he asks and then looks like he regrets it the moment the words leave his fingers. ‘Of course. You are my future,’ I reply, adding the Deaf-friendly smoke alarm into the basket.
The way this book isn’t even officially published yet and I’m already on Goodreads checking to see if the next one has been announced because this series is So. Damn. Good!!!!
I love Pah!. I love the whole Deaf Hearts series but, ugh, this one has me by the throat. Seriously, Dex and Rome are so good together. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance when it’s so hard won.
Dex brings big feelings to the table. Seriously, he’s so sweet and sensitive, literally sunshine personified. He’s so in tune with his emotions and he’s not afraid of them - it’s so attractive. I’m surprised he isn’t beating suitors off with a stick. I love that he waxes poetic about Rome at every opportunity: ”I love the early morning glow. It reminds me of Rome when he smiles. How it lights up a fucking room. How it lights up my life.” Swoon. I was so mad at Rome for hurting him in the beginning (seriously, who hurts a golden retriever?? Jail. Straight to jail) but, god, the way Dex made Rome crawl back into his good graces was perfection.
And Rome, the grumpy little denial gremlin, works his arse off to prove how sorry he is and how sincere his feelings about Dex are… once he’s worked through his misplaced anger. I really did feel for Rome though. He’s been through so much and I can only imagine how bitter being mocked by your partner would make you. No wonder he acts the way he does. We see a completely different side of him in this book to what we got to see in Kiss-Fist and I’m so thankful for that. He deserved his redemption arc - and he worked goddamn hard to earn it. When he said “Late at night, when I’m feeling at my most vulnerable, I close my eyes and think about what life might be like a year from now with him. Or five years. Or ten. I think of a shared house and easy touches. I think of coming home to him after a bad day and how I know he’ll look at me and understand and not have to ask what I need. And I want to believe I can do the same for him, even if it’s something I’m not great at. But I can learn to be. I think. For him” I knew it was over for me. I was as gone for Rome as Dex was.
I also love that this series doesn’t shy away from highlighting the discrimination the Deaf community faces on the daily. It’s done in a way that shows you the issue, without putting that back on Deaf or hard of hearing individuals. I think it’s mentioned in the series a few times that the Deaf characters are constantly having to go out of their way to accomodate hearing people who don’t know any sign language, but nobody ever really make accomodations for them. And it would be so damn easy to make small changes that benefited the Deaf community. Hell, even I know some basic Auslan - and I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed. Anyway, I love that the authors make it a point to include some of the struggles the community faces, but they don’t use those situations as plot points.
Honestly, Pah! was a really, really enjoyable book with a plot that moved along nicely and an array of characters to keep you interested and guessing. I loved that the authors brought back characters from earlier in the series and introduced us to a whole line-up of new ones. I can’t wait for Murder Hearts - I need more unhinged MMC’s in my life.
I adore a good redemption story and Rome's was not only well deserved, but well earned. A super steamy and emotionally slow burning love story that I really didn't want to end. I adore this entire series so, so much!!
Rome was holding onto grief and hurt from a relationship long past, which formed his outlook and opinions on many people, but none more so than the entire hearing world. My heart broke the more I got to know the man behind the angry mask. 🥺 Rome also had a problem as he was hugely attracted to Dex, the co-owner of PUMPT. Why was this an issue...well, Dex was not only hearing, but he also barely knew ASL. That alone should be every reason for Rome to never look at Dex again, not to mention Dex's brother, Thom, was dating Rome's ex. Everything combined should have had Rome running the other way, but Rome's brain, either in his head, or in his pants, weren't listening, they were in constant disagreement with one another, except for the fact that he couldn't seem to stay away from Dex. 😂
Dex saw something behind the snarls and snippy behavior of Rome from the first moment he pushed his way into his car. Not only did he see a hot man, not that he'd been with one before, but he could appreciate Rome's physicality, especially when he stirred and awoke a side of him that he never knew existed. I loved how Dex so easily came to terms with his awakening, but when it came to matters of the heart, he was an emotional mess. Actually both men were, but that is what made this story so much fun to read. They had zero trouble ripping each other's clothes off, but when it came expressing feelings it wasn't quite so easy.
Dex is a total sweetheart and worries about everyone, especially Rome, but he also wants Rome to work for his affections. He was devastated when Rome left for three years and he wasn't about to give him that kind of power again, if only he knew that Rome was in the same emotional handbasket that he was he might give in. But I was happy he didn't since it lead to dates and more dates, which were the crème de la crème of the whole book 😘 These two are more perfect than they ever knew and the emotional side of this story proved it. 🥰
Rome was a sappy mess when it came to Dex, and I loved getting to know this side of him, which was completely different from the hardened man who snipped at everyone. Dex and Rome together were hot...totally and completely hot 🥵...but them as a couple were adorable on a whole different level. Dex is patient, which Rome needs and he saw a man who needed how to learn to love, not that Dex knew himself, but Dex is patient in a lot of regards that he probably didn't even know himself. A truly enjoyable couple to read as they found their HEA.
The emotional growth of both characters within this book is what kept me coming back to this series overall. I loved it and am looking forward to what's next on the horizon for this writing duo.
I was provided with an ARC by the authors in exchange for an honest review. These are my real sentiments about the story and everything written here is respectful, without meaning to harm anyone, but to offer my opinion as constructive criticism/compliments. Thank you, Cora and E.M., for the opportunity!
Just like expected, I did not like Rome very much in Kiss-Fist. I knew he had some trauma going on that made him act the way he did, but he was still a shithead. So I was intrigued whether he would be able to redeem himself in his book and make me like him.
And boy, did he! Don't get me wrong, he's still an asshole a lot of the time, but when he let's his façade down, you see sweetness even in his asshole behaviour. He's actually a darling, loyal, sensitive person with so much love to give. He just needed to overcome his fears and insecurities. I do think he should've been to therapy a long time ago and not do so much shit until he realized that, but well.
Dex, obviously, is the greenest flag golden retriever. The guy doesn't have flaws, I'll tell you. He's so sweet, I couldn't even get annoyed at his The way he was himself so freely, the completely opposite of Rome, spreading love and joy all around, was lovely. It was impossible for Rome not to fall for him. Especially when Dex helped Rome see all the good in himself.
Not to mention, those two were FIRE. Man, what a chemistry! It radiated from the pages every time they were in the same room together. At first, I was worried we would just get the sexual side of their relationship, because that would not have convinced me they were that in love just because of that. So when they I was delighted. Very funny times too haha
As a rescuer of stray pets, I was very annoyed at first when Milo, btw, won my heart over. I don't even care what he ends up being, I just know that anyone who loves pets whom nobody wants, deserves all the love in the world. I did like their journey LOL Just wished we could've seen even more of that.
The end, although EXTREMELY sweet, felt a bit abrupt to me. I wish we had an epilogue from their POV before we had Denver's. It just felt like something was missing to give Dex's and Rome's story a better closure. I also wish we'd had more info about the but I'm guessing that will come in the next series. Despite that, it was still an awesome, lovely, hot read that I recommend. It's become my favorite book in the Deaf Heart series, and definitely a comfort read.
4.5 stars Dex is a gym owner who is hearing but now has friends and clients in the deaf community. And along with that comes Rome, who is the bitter ex of Dex's brother's new boyfriend. Rome is deaf and seems to have it out for hearing guys. He has an attitude and an intensity about him. And for some reason, he seems to be sending some of that shade Dex's way...until it turns into a few very sexy and fiery encounters and Dex having a bi-awakening. But Rome's actions ended with Dex being confused and hurt.
Three years later, they are back in each other's circle with a mixed group of hearing and non-hearing friends who can also sign. And Dex has worked hard to learn and communicate with them. Dex is such a sweet, loyal, lovable gymbro. And Rome is just tired of his life, travel, and being lonely.
They find themselves back in a whirlwind of attraction and unresolved feelings. There is miscommunication between these two about what is really going on. Rome's past has clouded how he has always thought of being in a relationship with a hearing man, and he has had up big walls. And Dex is not going to make it easy for Rome to get back in and wants to make him work for it. I loved seeing their growth individually and together during this story. They have great chemistry, but they also have big hearts and love to give if they can get over their past hurt. There is an enemies-to-lovers and hate sex vibe, but it is also rooted in past pain and regret, and there is so much mutual pining. I love good anti-hero turn vulnerable hero story.
This is a sweet and spicy, grumpy-sunshine story about chasing and running, bi-awakening, misunderstandings, and second chances. There is some emotional drama and external drama happening around them with some minor suspense elements.
I love the found family component to these books, and their family just keeps growing. It brings back the other couples and friends from the series and introduces us to three new interesting and intense characters, Archie, Milo, and Percy. The epilogue sets up an intriguing next series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PAH! (Deaf Hearts #3) by Cora Rose & E.M. Lindsey
PAH! is one of those books that reminds me why I love emotional MM romance so much. It’s intense, messy, tender, and deeply satisfying—balancing high heat with genuine emotional growth.
The Enemies to Lovers dynamic works so well here because it’s rooted in history, misunderstandings, and unresolved feelings rather than shallow conflict. Dex and Rafi aren’t just attracted to each other—they’re tangled up in years of want, resentment, and longing. That tension makes the slow emotional burn feel earned and incredibly rewarding.
One of the strongest aspects of this book is how intimacy is portrayed through communication and effort. Dex learning to sign isn’t treated as a grand gesture—it’s treated as love in action. Quiet, intentional, and deeply personal. One line that stayed with me:
“Next time I’m alone, I might replay the way his eyes flared as my hands moved through his language.”
That sentence alone captures the emotional intimacy of this story. Desire here isn’t just physical—it’s about being seen, understood, and chosen.
The chemistry is undeniable, and yes, the high heat and hate sex absolutely deliver, but they never overpower the emotional core. Even moments of lust feel layered with vulnerability and meaning:
“He uses his hands to tell me exactly what he thinks of me.”
Both characters are clearly affection-starved, and watching them soften—sometimes reluctantly—was one of my favorite parts of the book. The hurt/comfort moments hit hard, especially when care is shown through small gestures instead of grand declarations:
“‘Come on. I can’t wait for our date,’ I tell him and then grab his hand and link my fingers with his.”
There’s also a beautifully handled bisexual awakening, written with nuance and without shame, as well as a strong found family element that adds warmth and grounding to the story.
Overall, PAH! is emotional, thoughtful, and incredibly engaging. Cora Rose and E.M. Lindsey continue to raise the bar for inclusive romance that doesn’t just tell a love story—it shows it through growth, communication, and choice. This is a standout installment in the Deaf Hearts series and an easy recommendation for anyone who loves emotionally rich MM romance.
ARC REVIEW PAH! by @emlindseyauthor & @coraroseauthor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5/5)
Every book in the Deaf Hearts series has been a hit for me, and PAH! is no exception. I have been (not so) patiently waiting for Dex and Roman’s story, and given the unresolved tension they’ve had in earlier books, I went in expecting explosive chemistry. Good news: it absolutely delivers.
They come in hot from chapter one, before a separation slows the momentum, and the time jump that follows is a really smart choice. It gives Dex time to become more fluent in Roman’s language and culture—removing a major barrier between them—without the growth feeling rushed or too convenient. His determination to learn ASL for Thom, Robbie, and Roman carries real emotional weight and proves again and again that he’s willing to do the work where it counts.
Roman’s redemption arc was one of my favorite parts of the book. He came across as fairly one-note antagonistic in the first installment, so seeing the layers underneath that hurt and defensiveness was incredibly satisfying. “Hurt people hurt people” fits him perfectly. His past with a hearing ex pushed him to build rigid rules about who he could love, and watching that certainty slowly crack as Dex barrels into his heart is both believable and genuinely tender.
And Dex? Absolute golden retriever energy. Endlessly affectionate, emotionally open, and exactly the steady warmth Roman needs. The way he adapts his apartment to be more accessible and consistently centers Roman’s comfort sealed the deal for me. Elite book boyfriend status achieved.
This is my favorite entry in the series so far, and I’m still not ready to let this world go. I will happily take more stories in this universe anytime.

I was so happy to see Rome get his redemption arc! This was the perfect way to end the series - even though I am sad to see it end!
In the first two books Rome has a big problem with deaf people dating hearing people and it wasn’t til this book that we really learned why he held such strong beliefs. Rome was holding onto grief and heartbreak from a hearing ex-boyfriend who treated him awfully in college. My heart broke for him the more I got to know him and I could really understand why he didn’t trust hearing people. He is forced to look at his misconceptions though because he hugely attracted to Dex, who is hearing and Thom’s brother (from book 1). After a few hate hookups, because Rome hadn’t confronted his feelings yet, Rome ghosts Dex and moves to Paris. Three years later, Rome is back home - and he still isn’t over his feelings for Dex; and Dex isn’t over his feelings for Rome. After some miscommunication between the two of them - they finally go on a date and then another date and another.. and Rome realizes his preconceived notions of hearing people might not be completely accurate.
I loved loved loved these two! Dex is a total sweetheart who desperately wants Rome to reciprocate feelings but he made Rome work for what he wanted and I really respected that! Dex wanted something real and he made sure Rome was ready for that before giving his heart over. Rome was a sappy sappy man when it came to Dex once he got over his hang ups and I loved seeing it. He was so hard and closed off in the first two books and seeing him open up was rewarding to watch. The moments when he used his voice were so romantic because it really showed that he was willing to meet in the middle to get his dream guy. The spice between these two was fire and romantic.
Their HEA was so beautiful to read and I think they might be my favorite couple of the series.
What you’re getting: bi awakening | hearing x deaf | enemies to lovers | hurt x comfort | found family | hate sex | slow burn/high heat | HEA | spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I’ve been looking forward to this story! Robbie definitely didn’t come off as super likable in previous books. So I’ve been excited to finally get in his head and learn more about him. Especially when we learn that he gets with Dex! After a relationship that ended badly, Robbie swore to not dating hearing people. The language barrier is too much and he has been burned before. But then there is Dex. Something about him grabs Robbie’s attention and it just makes him angry to feel this pull toward someone he swore he wouldn’t date. Dex may be trying to learn ASL but it’s not enough. At least, Robbie doesn’t think so. Not at this moment. Doesn’t stop them from some very angry hook ups that leave them burning for more. But one problem. The last time it happens, Dex may make Robbie promise to stay, but in the morning, he’s gone. Worse? He left for France and is supposed to be gone for three years. Talk about ouch! Now, the years have passed and Robbie returns home. And neither have moved past the feelings they have for one another. But Dex won’t let Robbie get away with walking away this time. And Robbie isn’t strong enough to stay away. Especially when Dex is way more fluent and has shown Robbie just how much has changed and yet he still wants Robbie. Adored these two! I loved that Dex didn’t let Robbie just get away with how much he hurt him when he left. And that he really made Robbie try harder when it came to the two of them. Dex deserves someone who is willing to try. And for Robbie, he needed that push. He needed to see that Dex was different than his past and that he wanted to be different with Dex too. I loved watching these two open up to one another and finally get together after all that time! We also get introduced to some pretty interesting new characters in what appears to be a new series connected to this one. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
PAH! is book three in the Deaf Hearts series. This MM romance story is about Dex and Rome.
We’ve already met these two guys in the previous books in this series, and so I was excited to get more of Dex. Unfortunately I couldn’t say the same for Rome. I didn’t like how Rome treated Robbie and Thom, so I definitely disliked him going into this story. My opinion of Rome only got worse because right from the start he was mean to Dex. I just kept thinking that Dex is the sweetest guy and deserves better.
Dex co-owns a gym with his brother Thom. At the start of the book, he is learning ASL but not very far along. Rome used to hookup with Robbie and was very bitter when Robbie started dating Thom. Rome refuses to date hearing people, and we eventually learn this is because of an awful ex he dated in college.
Dex and Rome are attracted to each other. Rome is angry he wants Dex, but he can’t seem to resist him. They hookup a handful of times, but then Rome takes off to Paris for work for three years. He completely ghosts Dex. When Rome returns, the lack of communication between Dex and Rome frustrated me. The sparks and attraction were still there between them, and I was happy Dex doesn’t just jump back into it and makes Rome work for it. Rome realizes Dex isn’t anything like his ex, and he finally opens up and treats Dex how he deserves to be treated. These two ended up being cute together.
As always, I enjoyed the interesting side characters. I do have to say there were a couple things that I felt didn’t really get resolved, but since there were hints at a new series I am hoping we will get answers then.
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
↓↓ I wasn't sure how Rome was going to redeem himself. He came off as a self entitled douche canoe to the max in the previous books and he started this book off in the same fashion. BUUUUUUUUUTTTT by the end of this book, he put in the work and the effort to make himself a better person and I fell in love with him.
Oh sweet sweet, gold retriever Sex, ope, I mean Dex. He did not deserve how Rome treated him in the beginning and I was so happy and proud when he put his foot down and made Rome work for his affection and knew what he deserved.
These two go from scalding hot to absolutely nothing for years, only to come back to scalding hot and then pump the breaks to build a foundation in to something more for their relationship, while that may not work for some, it worked for them.
I loved all the tender and sweet moments between these two. Rome slowly opened up and became vulnerable with Dex and Dex was patient and kind while Rome worked through his inner issues from his ex. These two really complimented each other, they brought out the best and showed that with the right person, love and respect can happen.
I was so happy to see the closure and Robbie and Rome working through their previous issues. I loved the appearances by the other couples and Michael made an appearance that had me absolutely crackin up.
Ok, but those three mysterious brothers that were introduced, is the cat cafe just a coverup for something else and then that epilogue!! I CAN NOT wait for this new series.

E.M. Lindsey and Cora Rose are magicians because they somehow turned a character (Rome) that I didn't love in the first book, into a character that I absolutely adored. Heading into this book he'd already had a bit of a redemption arc, but I truly wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Rome given how much I disliked him in Robbie and Thom's story. Then, Rome starts out their story by ghosting Dex for three years. By 20% in, I didn't think there was any way I was going to be rooting for Rome and Dex as a couple.
Seriously. These two performed magic. Not only did I come to like and empathize with Rome as a character and understand where he was coming from, but when he opened up and I got to know him, he was both really funny and really relatable! Suddenly, he and Dex made a lot more sense together as a couple. When we're talking good character development, Rome is it!
I really enjoyed that Dex made Rome put the emotional and romantic work in though. Not only did he finally start opening up, but their dates brought a lot of fun to their story (hi, Dennis, I'm looking at you!) Their relationship may have started at high heat, but the emotional slow burn and the pining was so beautifully done. It worked perfectly for their story.
What I've enjoyed most about this book, as well as the previous two, is the beautiful found family dynamic. I have loved getting to know the other characters in their lives, such as Denver and Lexi and Quinn, and the friend group is both hilarious and supportive. (I also loved that the groundhog Michael made a surprise appearance in this story!)
PAH! is the final book in E.M. Lindsey and Cora Rose's Deaf Hearts series. It is a perfect final book for the series and I have read and enjoyed them all.
We have meet the main characters in the previous books. Dex is Thom's brother who he owns PUMPT with. He is a loveable guy who just wants to be loved. Rome is Robbie's former hook-up and friend. Rome does not trust those who are hearing because a previous experience. Even with this, Rome and Dex circle each other until they finally hook-up. Until Rome leaves the country for a few years.
When Rome comes back, the hate-sex picks back up until Dex slows them down insisting on being wooed and going on dates. This is perfect for Dex and Rome to get to know each other better and for the trust to build between them.
Dex is such a sweetheart. He just wants to be seen and loved. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is so open. I love him! I really liked how the dates became more comfortable and easy going as time went on. It goes from stilted and Rome trying too hard to it being easy.
PAH! starts out with a bang and there is instant attraction that is strong. But the book brings in feelings to go along with the explosive attraction slowly.
One thing I would have loved to have seen is more of Rome’s time in Paris. Maybe see some his character development that takes place there.
Dennis is amazing. I love an elderly and cranky cat.

Thanks to the authors for providing an eARC and this is my honest review.
I really loved the way this book played out. Rome wasn’t the easiest character to like after the way he treated Robbie in the previous book but I had a feeling that he and Dex were going to have some interesting interactions. Rome has trust issues with hearing people and doesn’t want to want Dex, but he can’t seem to stop himself from getting physical with him. Dex can’t understand why Rome hates him so much, yet always puts himself where Dex can’t avoid him. As much as Rome desires Dex, he ghosts him for 3 years, causing a lot of confusion on Dex’s part. Not really pining, but not letting go either, both of these characters find that letting go isn’t as easy as they thought and time does not heal all wounds. When Rome returns, tension is high and Dex is determined to figure out what the heck Rome has against him and what it will take to break his walls down. I loved seeing the push and pull of their emotional battle. It’s evident they want each other fiercely, but Rome has to face his past and realize that all hearing people aren’t out to mock him. Dex went above and beyond to prove that he was different and that Rome mattered and deserved to be loved. He didn’t make it easy though, and I think it made all the difference. This has been such a great series and the next book in a related series has me anticipating its release. I highly recommend this book and the whole series!
In a previous book, there is a hint of chemistry between Roman and Dex. The problem for Roman is that Dex is a hearing person, and Roman does not get involved with hearing men due to a prior experience that was discussed in the first book.
Knowing this would be an issue for Roman, I was surprised when this book opened with instant chemistry between the two MCs. However, physical chemistry does not equal an emotional connection, and building that connection became the slow burn of the story. The moments along the way were extra steamy, and the overall arc of their relationship was thoroughly engaging.
As with the other books in The Deaf Hearts series, I learned so much that I didn’t previously know about Deaf culture. In this book in particular, there are multiple examples of the prejudice, obstacles, and challenges that Deaf people often face in a hearing world. For me, this aspect of the story was especially eye-opening.
Overall, I love this series and highly recommend all of these books—this one was no exception.

Please note: I did receive this book as an advanced copy ahead of publication. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review and appreciate the opportunity provided by the author to review this book.
There were many aspects of Deaf culture and American Sign Language sprinkled throughout this book. It was done expertly and proved that at least one of the authors actually signs. For example: CHAT-CHAT and the Deaf good-bye. I love that we finally know what Robbie's silly/informal Sign Name is. It was a fun little easter egg for the readers who sign.
I really loved that grumpy Rome became such a marshmallow- even if he would never admit it. Dex really proved himself to be worth the (internal) work that Rome went through. Dex proved that he was willing to learn and grow without expecting a Deaf partner to give up their language and identity.
I loved Lexi's character and the introduction to how a SODA (sibling of a Deaf adult) would function in the Deaf community. Additionally, I think the portrayal of a CODA (child of Deaf adult) with a Deaf child was done well. I also really enjoyed the exploration of American Sign Language and French Sign Language being historically connected. For anyone who is not familiar- this aspect of the book is factual. Who says you can't learn new things from romance books?
This book perfectly sets up the readers for a new series. I cannot wait. I will certainly be checking out other books from these authors.
