It has the sub title 'An account of life in Berlin 1928-1945' and describes Biddy's life and the lives of ordinary Germans before and during the war. She records the evacuation of Berlin housewives to East Prussia and the arrest, torture and execution of resistance fighters, including her husband. She was there at the entry of the Red Army into Berlin and describes her journey with two young children from camp to camp until they reached England.
A book I will remember for its description of the hardship, confusion and fear of the war years for ordinary people living in Berlin and especially for the first year afterwards. A short but worthy read for anyone interested in this era.
