NOOOO that was such a cliffhanger!

I do think the translation was a bit weak in this volume. But most of that has to do with how the Japanese talk to each other. It just does not translate well into English. It would work better in Dutch although some of the things would be considered old-fashioned.

The art though... Oof. Rough. I keep forgetting that because I like the story so much but sometimes I do not know who is who. Especially the men in general and when Kyoko and Moko are dressed up in their film roles.

Also the first look at racism towards the Japanese from a Japanese perspective. Very interesting to see. I do not think they will dive very deep into that (let's be honest, the Japanese are also very good at being racist) but interesting nonetheless. And we got two dark-skinned people without the stereotypical big lips!

What I enjoyed the most in this volume is the friendship between Moko and Kyoko. Growing up I read so many great shoujo with female friendships that I did not really get the criticisms people had about girls in manga. Until I realised most of those people only read the 'shounen jump series'. And those are very much not written with girls in mind. They have gotten better over the years but when I was young, you had to go to shoujo for that.

Skip Beat keeps on building that friendship. And I truly hope there will not be some falling out in the future because of jealousy or such nonsense. 🤞

Ren and Kyoko are also fantastic. I dislike the whole 'will they, won't they' so I was very pleased to see how their relationship is settling. They are taking their future and work very seriously and keep on working towards their goals. The love is there but it is on the back burner.

Sho Fuwa made a quick appearance and I kept on giggling in how that came up.
