Ehhhh. Maybe 3.5 stars. Well written but it’s extremely one-note to just recap all the seasons’ drama from UK and USA seasons. I could have written that whole part of the book, which I think most die hard fans could… idk, that’s not why I listened to the book. I wanted more context and depth and analysis of the reverberations on society! I wanted to hear about the ppl who are still together and why this may be.

The epilogue and first few chapters were what I wanted more of, NOT the recaps of every season. Sad, definitely a just-missed opportunity

I liked the reporting the author did for this book, it was fun to get insights from islanders, the hosts and people who create and produce the show. I think the author handled the parts about the tragedies connected to the show really well. It was fun to read about parts that I remember well (UK season 1 Hannah’s accent, “LIARRR! ACTRESSSS!” Molly Mae and Tommy, Faye! the other Molly and Tom! …so many good moments!) and it was also fun to read about parts I didn’t know from seasons I didn’t watch or don’t remember as well. It would have been interesting to get a little more analysis of the ways gender, race, class, sexuality and body image play out in the show but the author did touch on it a bit and maybe that analysis is for a different type of book. Overall this was a good read about one of my fave shows! ❤️🏝️

This show is fascinating and fun to watch. I look forward to it 6 nights a week for 6 weeks. We joke that it's a part time job.

Having these interviews and inside scoops was incredibly interesting. So much gets covered about the seasons and the world around them.

If you are a fan of the show, this really is a must read.

Ahhhh I hate to say it but skip this book and just listen to the author interview she did on the Viall Files because that had more interesting information than this book!

Unfortunately, this book felt more like a Love Island history lesson mixed with a recap podcast, rather than a fun tell-all. The overwhelming majority of this book was just a recap of the iconic and viral moments from the show and it feels like a waste of time to rehash it because I literally watched the moments happen live.

Truly, all the best information was revealed on the Viall Files podcast. The behind the scenes, the making of the show, how producers encourage islanders to act on impulses -- that stuff is interesting. I don't need a play by play of Love Island USA's last two seasons because I remember how they went. I literally just watched them.

So, a bit disappointing.

ok i audiobooked this after going to an interview w the author at the strand (which was rly fun) and i liked this bc ill die for love island BUT i was hoping for a bit more like… analysis of the show and its culture or at least good tea, but it skewed more towards a love island explainer written for someone who had never heard of the show. the beginning did a pretty good job of giving some behind the scenes info and i liked all the archetypes etc but then it ended up just recapping various seasons with some quotes from interviews sprinkled in. not enough about australia but i get that it’s prob hard to cover that much content. the narrator does funny accents :)

This was a good prelude to the Love Island premiere this week!

Lots of interesting behind the scenes info on how the shows are made, chats with the cast and I appreciated learning about how they handle mental health and race on the show.

As a couple of previous reviewers mentioned, could have done with a bit less recapping- if you're reading this you've obviously watched the shows.

Overall really enjoyed and blew through this.

3.5 ⭐️ i enjoyed listening to this as a big love island UK & US fan! i’ve seen UK seasons 1-8 & US 6-8 (rn) so that definitely helped. if you’ve never watched it, i think this would be a flop. it was fun for me to look back on all the big drama of past seasons + get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes, casting, and producer insights. i think i would’ve enjoyed even more behind-the-scenes/making of the show content, but still a fun listen for a love island fan!

Mostly just a recap of all the seasons of love island so far with occasional moments of talking about production and how cast members were affected. Pretty interesting if you, like me, are actively suffering from love island brain rot.

I really liked learning about the ins and outs of casting, the mental health teams, how they improved diversity, behind the scenes, etc but half the book was kinda just re explaining past seasons and I didn’t really care about that

Whether they actively consider this or not, [by going on the show] every cast member constructs a permanent, semi-clothed monument to the person who thought it would be a good idea to go on Love Island.

Well, confession. I have never seen and don't ever want to see a single second of Love Island. I don't like reality shows -- I'd even dare to say I HATE romance reality shows -- but I do like the behind-the-scenes scoop.

I like knowing how, exactly, reality shows/competition shows are constructed and filmed and edited, contestants' and producers' honest experiences, how often they were left "on ice," when they could access the outside world, so on, so forth. So I'd hoped this would talk more about the nuts and bolts and real life fallout of participating in these shows.

But it kinda ended up being more like an extended recap of notable Love Island moments and relationships...? The recaps were surrounded by context that wasn't directly on screen, yes, but they didn't lend very much? Not really revealing, not really shocking, not really informative. I know I was probably missing a lot of investment here because I don't watch the show, though I'm not sure how much this would teach a fan that following the contestants on their social media wouldn't.

Regardless, Peele has some fantastic non-fiction prose, with some honestly hilarious and colourful descriptions of "characters" and "scenes" from the show. Maybe I haven't seen Love Island, but I could imagine everything perfectly. There's a reason I sped through this despite my lack of knowledge.

As a longtime Love Island fan, Enter the Villa was fascinating. Hearing from production about the stereotypes of various characters on the show, how the show morphed over time, and how the show became the mega popular force it is today was incredibly interesting. It truly was a look behind the scenes that I’d never had before reading this book.

This book takes readers through all the seasons of the original Love Island in the UK, as well as Love Island USA. It documented individual experiences and highlighted moments from each season that made the show what it is today. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the ways that care for the islanders has grown and changed over time, as well as the honesty from various islanders over the course of the show’s many seasons about their lived experiences.

Enter the Villa combined both witty commentary and insightful information about the history of Love Island in the way only a true fan could. It was an easy read and something I enjoyed over a period of time. As I gear up for another summer of Love Island, I have no doubt I’ll be referring back to my reading of this book and all the newfound knowledge I now have!

Thank you to Atria Books for the opportunity to read and review this book! I received a free advance copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Enter the Villa is a great quick read for fans of Love Island! The book offers recaps of the seasons, breakdowns of the cause and aftermath of those seasons, insider information on casting and production, and a timeline of the creation of Love Island. I enjoyed particularly reading on the development of Love Island US, and the casting "types" that the producers look for in their Islanders. While I did get a bit tired of the long recaps of the seasons (I saw them all, I don't need a whole chapter recap), I really enjoyed hearing about how former Islanders feel about their experience years later. It was also comforting to learn about the Duty of Care and extensive psychological tests the potential Islanders must pass to prove they can withstand the potential fame or fallout after their season ends.

Would recommend to fans of Love Island that were always curious about whether or not choices were made by the Islanders or pushed by the producers. I do feel there could have been a little more actual behind-the-scenes info and a little less recap, but overall enjoyed it. Perfect timing to catch up before the new season this summer!

This book is an AMAZING look behind the scenes at how the reality-show-sausage gets made.

I’m a long-time fan of reality tv, but my Love Island knowledge literally comes from Scandoval and the occasional appearance of a former contestant on the shows I do watch. I went into this pretty much blind as to the history and lore, so I was expecting some new information, but also something similar to a lot of behind the scenes looks at television production.

I found it absolutely fascinating. The mechanics behind everything from casting to the “duty of care” to how they recalibrate in real time were interesting, and Peele is hilarious. She perfectly captures how it feels to root against and for these people, and her descriptions of the various characters (in front AND behind the camera) are delightful. I don’t know for sure what a used coffin salesman would sound like, but it sure paints a picture.

An absolute 10/10, would couple up with this book again.

I listened to the audiobook - as a Love Island SUPER-fan, specifically UK, I loved this book.

It was in-depth, and thoughtful, and I loved how many past islanders, cast and crew were involved and interviewed.
The narrator was effusive, and a bit silly - switching inflections and accents depending on whose quote she was reading. It gave it a playful, silly and not too serious tonality to the book that LI UK possess itself.

If you’re a fan of LI UK, it’s worth a listen.
If you’re newer to the show, or only into the US version (my least favorite franchise) there will be too many interviews and stories about people you don’t know,
and therefore most likely won’t care about. So GO WATCH IT ALL ON HULU 🤭😆

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this advance copy in exchange for my opinion 😊

As a MAJOR fan of Love Island, I was so excited to read this and get a behind the scenes look at the show. I guess I should have not went in with that expectation. There was nothing that was groundbreaking in this book. Thankfully I have seen the show and the scenes she described because I could picture it, but then I was like, why am I reading about it? I would have loved more actual behind the scenes, like what’s the interview look like to get on, what does Maya do when she’s not with the islanders, etc.

Not bad, just nothing ground breaking.

I enjoyed this book. Let me preface this by saying I love reality TV but cannot get into Love Island. And yet I appreciate this book and what it aims to do even as a non-viewer. No – even as a person who wants to be a viewer and disliked it too much to be a viewer. I think that this book does important work in exploring an important cultural phenomenon that, for a variety of reasons, some more legitimate than others, has captured so much of our collective attention. It is also possible that reading this book has intrigued me enough to revisit Love Island by helping me understand this show a bit better.

I read this because I, like everyone else, am obsessed with love island right now. I really liked the behind the scenes insights on production and previous islanders' feelings about the show. I cared less for the play-by-plays of scenes from previous seasons I haven't watched with people I didn't know.
I skipped some parts because of that. I feel like anyone who didn't watch the season she recaps in the book just feel bored because they don't know the context she's talking about, and people who did watch the season don't need the recap because they already watched it firsthand. Overall this was interesting though and I learned some fun things about the show.

**Thank you Atria for my gifted copy** I enjoyed the beginning of this book and understanding more about how this show started. I started watching Love Island UK a few years ago (season 5 I think) and then went back to watch seasons 1-4 so the insight was nice. When certain scenes were described I could literally picture what happens. I did have more questions that lingered but I do think for someone who does not watch the show regularly, this would be a good read and maybe convince them to start watching the show.

Fun for a super fan! A good amount of the boom is spent recapping seasons that superfans will already have watched but she grounds this information in additional behind-the-scenes content. While it’s unauthorized (meaning the show/producers didn’t read it before it was published), the author did work with the show. She got backstage access, spoke with producers, visited the villa… so while not “authorized”, it will spin things in a positive light. Loved listening to it in audiobook and would recommend to anyone who loves the show!

I'm not a big enough fan to appreciate this book. I wanted more "behind-the-scenes" details, but while there was a little bit of that (mostly in the epilogue), the book spent a lot of time covering what happened and the fallout about each season in the UK and the USA. Since I have only watched 2 US seasons, I ended up skimming much of it. But if you are a huge fan, do get a copy when it's released in late May 2026.

Thanks to the publisher for the advance digital reading copy.

It’s very disappointing to read the way this author describes some love Islanders. Specifically, women of color, the way she pokes fun at their looks and their bodies is disgusting. A woman writing about women like that….. love Island is trash TV, and this is most definitely trash writing shame on everybody involved in this! as a true die hard love Island fan, since season one, I’m truly appalled.

As a Love Island fan (UK, US, and Australia) I especially loved the trove of new information about the show from Islanders and producers who were interviewed for this book. They talk about their time on the show and their reflections on past seasons. The author has woven this new information and her takes into descriptions of seasons and the show’s evolutions, and it’s a lot of fun to hear everyone dish!

gobbled this book up in 24 hours. I literally couldn’t put it down. As a big fan of love island USA, when I saw this book I knew I wanted to dive in. In the middle of a love island desert, this deep dive into the show I love, it’s predecessor Love Island UK, and it’s many other variants was so interesting. Highly recommend for any super fan of the show.

Thank you to NetGalley, Anna Peele, and Atria Books for the ARC of this book. All options are my own.

I was super exited for this! Although it was an interesting read, I was expecting more behind the scenes secrets but it was more just a retelling of various seasons. I would say there’s some small tidbits that were no info throughout the retelling but not enough for masks the book worth it. If you’re a Love Island fan and have seen a lot of the UK and USA seasons I would say skip this as you already know everything that has happened in the seasons mentioned.

There are many reasons to love summer…plenty of sunshine, long days, and nightly episodes of Love Island. While I wasn’t a day one viewer, I’ve been a dedicated fan of the show (both US and UK) since I found my way to it back in 2021. Making it through an entire 30 (or 60!) episode season is not for the faint of heart, but there is something about Love Island that makes it impossible to look away.

Anna Peele’s Enter the Villa pulls back the curtain to evaluate how the show became an essential part of pop culture, how the US version surpassed the UK mothership, and how the show has worked to address some of the darker aspects of reality TV production. It’s absolutely fascinating and is a must-read for anyone who’s a fan of the show, or reality TV in general.

Sometimes books about TV series can lean into the territory of simply recapping classic episodes, which can be a bit dry for superfans who are familiar with every little detail, but Peele does a great job of setting the scene and then providing context from the Islanders involved…think interviews with Jon and Hannah about #that scene in the first season and discussions with Aaron and Kaylor about the ups and downs of their time together in the Villa. It also feels very up-to-date, including interviews with the US and UK Islanders from 2025 (I loved getting to hear from Toni about her time on UK). It’s also a very fast read that would pair well with some reality TV in the background.

I feel like I was really expecting more from this. The glossary had me extremely confused as someone from the U.S. because it was very obviously based on the UK show. I thought this would be more BTS and I feel like I learned more from the cast on social media about their experiences on the show than I did from this book.

Agreed with some of the other reviews that this felt more like a recap than a full behind the scenes. Felt like we got a bit of the history of the start of LI but then it just devolved into a play-by-play of the last few big seasons of US/UK. It did get me excited for the new seasons but overall wanted a bit more from this. Great narrator though.
