pretty decent series detailing the first year of Mr Terrific.

I’m conflicted, that was a solid ending and really tied everything together…but for a year one story that had a whole lot of loose references to other stories and even more buildup for things that could happen in an uncertain future that I will be honest…hope we get to see. But this issue takes us right into the action, no present day fighting in the palace of eternity, not yet anyway, and we join Mr Terrific and Black Lightning, and a stupid Cormorant, as they are faced with the netherlight boosted energy of Athena Prescott! She immediately throws a few lobs of energy at her would be killer and our heroes, only to stop when a connection is formed back to Apokolips and she remembers her true mission…to herald Darkseid! Radiation wings explode from her body as she soars all the way back to gateway city and the netherlight engine. As cormorant is getting arrested, Michael is able to gather some data on her radiation levels and start heading back to gateway city with Jefferson fast as lightning.
As soon as Athena gets back to Prescott tower she begins to melt her way through the floors until she reaches the engine, our two heroes are right behind her, but as soon as she arrives she erupts to form a netherlight portal directly to Apokolips! This kind of portal doesn’t have the usual “boom” we are used to and right at the door waiting is Granny Goodness and a horde of parademons. Through Jefferson’s justice league missions, that Michael seems to hate, he knows exactly what they are dealing with and how bad this could be. Michael has boosted his T spheres quite a bit, allowing for some great combos with Jefferson for some massive electrical discharges to take out parademons. But they have to be careful, one wrong move and this engine could blow up just like the one in Gotham. But already Terrific is hard at work deploying the same netherlight eating bacteria that he deployed in Gotham to start stripping the room of the radiation. We even see parts of Athena covered by netherlight start to disappear. And that’s when Mr Terrific gets an idea, if thy can deliver a concentrated blast (Jefferson hitting his t sphere) on the other side of the portal, they can reverse the blast and cause all of it to flood into the other side instead of causing problems on earth. They do just that and suddenly Granny, the parademons, Athena, and almost Michael himself of Jefferson didn’t grab him, were ripped into the portal in a whirlwind of energy…they did it. Michael tried to grab out for Athena before she went in, but it was too late.
In the next few weeks Wayne bought Athena’s company and Holt industries, insuring the netherlight engine would never be used again. Michael helped fund clinics to help the people effects by the radiation recovery. The mayor of gateway city was arrested on bribery and Councilwoman Jackson stepped up. And now here is Michael Holt, in the eyes of the superhero community with his path set forward to join their societies and leagues as Mr Terrific. This also brings us back to the modern day and the person he is telling this story to…his son. He only found out recently that Granny Goodness made his wife’s death look like an accident, hiding that she took her to Apokolips where he has been raised. Michael admits that when he first saw his son he couldn’t accept it, he dove into his work to escape all the emotions…realizing now that his son deserved so much more, especially after being the one to come and rescue him now in the palace of eternity where they are of course fighting the netherlight infected…Athena Prescott…after all these years, she has been imprisoned by Granny but with the recent events in The New Gods series Granny turned a blind eye and she was able to break free and start trying to come back with the rift Michael found at the beginning. Now aided by his son, and his son’s hellhound Kyon, Michael knows what he has to do. He has learned over the years that sometimes the simplest solution can be the hardest to face. That you can let your trauma shape you can either cause it to take over, or you can use it to forge you. As such, Michael dropped his guard and extended a hand to Athena, no more fighting…time to go home. But through her years of imprisonment she still blames Michael, and begins once more to lash out and attack them! Michael stands guard as his son and his hellhound double back through the portal he opened to get here, as Michael follows right behind him, leaving Athena trapped in the palace of eternity with the rift closed. This story has been told in Jeffery’s bedroom, so that he can have a sense of his origins and so his father can tell him how proud he is that he came to rescue him. He wants his son to know how sorry he is that he went through living trapped in the palace of eternity himself and that he loves him and knows that his mother would love him to. The past is behind us, but the future is unwritten and full of potential! But it seems this may not be the last we see of Athena either. We end the issue by jumping over to Gotham, the spot of the netherlight engine that exploded has now been purified and turned onto Pennyworth park. But, it seems there was enough energy left for Athena to wedge open a rift in time and space and crawl through…only for Mercy Graves, under the orders of Lex Luthor, to be sitting there waiting to per her abilities to use…oh no.
