Vollmar and Callejo's series about a couple blues musicians and the hard, racist times they find in Arkansas in the early 20th century has really great art. The story gets to be a bit confusing and grim by the end. It's not nearly as happy as their other historical fiction book, Castaways.
I love the art in this book--black as night an dark as the music that informs its characters. The physical and social landscape of the story are incorporated so well in the art. I haven't read any of the previous volumes, so am in the middle of the story, but I can't wait to read the entire run.
