In this welcome continuation of her fabulously successful Knitting On, Over, and Beyond the Edge series, she shows crocheters how to add her signature embellishments to their projects. Nicky has created nearly 200 spectacular edgings, all with written instructions, charts, and photographs, along with amazing projects that showcase them magnificently. A little red jacket, cropped, shaped, and adorned with oversize buttons, features pretty scalloping. The adorable pink t-shirt provides a perfect example of how a little crocheting can transform an existing garment into a one-of-a-kind boutique-quality piece. Among her other fashion-forward designs: an ecru crystal shoulder cape, hat band and bracelet, and multicolor top. As with all Nicky’s other books, this is sure to be a hit!
Nicky Epstein is a knitting designer and author of numerous books on knitting. She is known for her creative combinations of knitting stitches, and for the colorful patterns often found in her sweaters, especially involving applique of separately knitted motifs.[1] In 2005, she was given a prestigious award by the National NeedleArts Association. In 2006, her work was featured in a retrospective fashion show at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. Since the (winter) Holiday 2005 issue, Epstein has written a regular column in Vogue Knitting called simply "Nicky Epstein".
This book is for anyone with either too much time on their hands or a very vivid imagination about fashion and making your own clothes. I will never have the time to try all the patterns and techniques in this book. But it's beautiful. And I did buy it and one for a crocheting friend. I plan to slowly throughout my lifetime try a technique here or there and possible soon one of the patterns for clothes. A grand dream would be the cream colored circle shawl. A must see for anyone who has ever crocheted. The directions can be challenging. I'm also relying on my common sense in following the great pictures too when I can't understand the directions.
This is a great resource book, full of a variety of edgings that have both written & charted directions. There are quite a few different designs, some lacey, some textured, some full of color. There are some that I have seen elsewhere (such as Heidi, single points, eyelash fringe) but that's certainly to be expected. There are a lot of ruffled designs, which look like a lot of fun, I think my favorite is Kendall's Ruffle.
There are a few simple patterns as well at the back of the book. Like Epstein's other books in the series, the patterns don't do anything for me personally, but the rest of the book makes it work buying.
A little for everyone. Not the old granny crocheting you think of, but new and the makings for pretties that your friends will be jealous of. If you get this with a standard stitch book there's nothing you can't do.
Interesting edgings for crochet geniuses. I am not a genius. It was neat to see what the patterns do, though, and if I get to the point where I want to edge a knitted work, this is a good option for finishing techniques.
This book has a fantastic array of edgings. The book includes both written patters and charts. Each edging is organized by type and a huge variety of each is included. This is an excellent resource book.
Lots and lots of edging options. And I adore the Medallion Medley cape; I'd never thought of putting together different bits and pieces of different sizes.
