No Grave for Grace: A Memoir of Mystery, Mission, and Miracles

In No Grave for Grace, Junior Obrand takes readers on an extraordinary journey from the mud-slicked roads of Gris-Gris, a remote Haitian village of poverty and prayer, to the pulsing heart of global humanitarian work that stretches across nations, regions, and continents. Born into a family of ten in a village with no running water or electricity, Junior was raised by parents who planted seeds of hope in soil hardened by hunger, storms, and scarcity.

This memoir is both a love letter to the faith that carried him and a gripping survival tale marked by attempted kidnappings, gang violence, and brushes with death. Yet through it all, Junior rose—not just to escape, but to uplift. Today, his work brings him back into a world he knows all too well, driven by a purpose forged in the fire of adversity and anchored by his mother's unwavering "The waves may be high, but our boat is secure."

Told with breathtaking honesty and lyrical grace, Junior's story is a living testament to resilience, the enduring strength of family, and the miracles that meet us when we dare to believe. If you've ever doubted the power of one life to change many, this book will shake you to the core. Prepare to be challenged and changed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Junior at a Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) gala in Chicago earlier this year (2026). I purchased a copy of his book. If you are looking for a non-profit to support, I highly encourage you to consider FMSC. This is a wonderful read! Junior’s life story is inspiring and filled with grace.

In a world obsessed with the curated aesthetic of perfection, Junior Obrand offers a necessary, counter-cultural embrace of the “messy” reality. No Grave for Grace is a soulful reminder that our true strength isn't found in the absence of struggle, but in the courageous, honest, and functional way we carry it. It is a masterclass in trading the fiction of a flawless life for the profound beauty of a real one.

The passage on page 180 of No Grave for Grace by Junior Obrand is a poignant reflection on the human experience of finding strength and meaning in the midst of adversity. Junior challenges the modern societal pressure—often exacerbated by social media—to project a “flawless” and perfect life. Instead, he argues that true growth comes from embracing a “functional life” rather than a “perfect” one. Wow - what an amazing life journey and lesson!

Key takeaways include:
Embracing Hardship: Struggles are not meant to be avoided; they are transformative tools that stretch, strengthen, and shape our character.
The Myth of Perfection: A life without pain, doubt, or wrong turns is a fiction.
Living Real: A meaningful, “functional” life is one that moves forward despite fear, sits with uncertainty, holds space for doubt, and still pursues joy. Ultimately, Junior urges us to choose a life that is messy, honest, and brave over one that is simply curated for appearance.

I have to admit that I opened this book knowing what most of the story is. Years ago, my church formed a relationship with a church in Gris Gris Haiti as a sister parish. This month that our Church supported this group with prayers, money, technical knowledge, medical missions, and more. Over the years we have built a church, a school, a bakery, a directory, and the most important of all dug a well so that people didn’t have to walk for miles every day to get water.
The story is written by the man who was the main liaison at the church in Gris Gris and his unbelievably difficult but amazing story.
We are very sad that there’s little we can do for them at this point in time because of all the civil unrest in Haiti, but we continue to pray for them and send the money.

An incredible narrative on resilience, faith and hope. No Grave for Grace continually reminded me that we have a Sovereign God, who is omnipresent and cares for his people. There’s so much divine presence woven throughout Juniors story, and it calls me to reflect and remember the divine presence woven throughout my life.

I especially was enlightened to Haitis incredibly rich history in the epilogue. There is so much truth in that our narratives about the world are shaped by the news and the what is reported to us. But how different would our world view be if we slowed down to see it through someone’s lived experiences?

Junior is so genuine and is a truly gifted storyteller.
Through his powerful, honest, transparent, and gritty narrative you will be transported from your place of reading to each and every location in his personal story. There is at least one and probably several take aways for each reader.
Whatever your background or beliefs, you will be deeply impacted by the power of faith and grace as passionately illustrated throughout Junior’s life story!

Such a powerful testimonial of Junior’s early life and struggles as he grew up in poverty and trials in Haiti and the influence that played in his later life. Truly inspirational.
