Do you ever feel like exercise is something you “should” do but can never quite stick with? Have you found yourself stuck in cycles of guilt, burnout, or perfectionism when it comes to moving your body? You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. And you’re not alone.

In Attuned Exercise, movement coach and positive psychology practitioner Martha Munroe offers a radically compassionate and refreshing approach to fitness—one that replaces hustle and shame with attunement and embodiment. Drawing on research in positive psychology, trauma-aware practices, and decades of experience as a trainer, Martha invites you to stop treating exercise as punishment and start experiencing it as a meaningful conversation with your body.

Inside you’ll

Why exercise ≠ weight loss (and other myths that keep us stuck).
How to shift from control and perfectionism into compassion and sustainability.
New ways to find motivation that lasts longer than willpower.
How to reconnect with your body after injury, exhaustion, or shame.
Why joy is a legitimate fitness goal—and often the missing piece.
Practical strategies for reclaiming your role as the expert of your own body.
This isn’t another quick-fix habit plan or rigid program. Instead, Attuned Exercise is a guide to cultivating a lifelong, life-giving relationship with movement—one that makes space for rest, resilience, and joy.

This book is nothing short of groundbreaking. It reframes exercise not as a willful “have to” but as an intrinsically loving act of “want to”. This book focuses on establishing a relationship of deep appreciation for the bodies we have and its this compassionate and supportive stance that creates intrinsic motivation to exercise as an act of self-care. The book is wonderfully written in small, bite-sized chapters that are meant to be taken in one at a time. The book is so engaging, however, that I polished it off in a few sittings. The content is well-researched and is grounded in positive psychology and neuroscience. The author herself is a fitness expert and a positive psychologist. The tone of the book portrays this expertise with a wonderful blend of compassion and relatability. This book is for anyone who has ever struggled with body image, self-care or exercise consistency. It’s a really a gift to anyone who has a body that needs some loving attention in the form of attunement and exercise. A game changer, in my opinion! Highly recommend.

Martha brought me home to myself and has helped me heal my relationship with my body. I'm attuned to it more than ever, stronger than ever, and moving more freely than ever. She has given me the permission slip to unapologetically be myself and it's so liberating. You can tell she genuinely wants to lift us up and free us from the toxicity of diet/fitness culture. I support her mission and highly recommend her book. It's a quick and easy read, yet can impact lives forever.
