I read this aloud at school to the Year 3/4 class. The class enjoyed it, boys and girls.
It tells the Cinderella story from the point of view of the Stepsisters, with each writing alternate chapters. There are no amputations or eye loss in this version.
It was one of those books where you have to have your character voices well remembered from week to week (because it gets read in two chapter chunks).
I read to the class when they visit me in the school library with their teacher. She enjoyed the humour also. In fact, I even likened it to the Shrek movie at one stage because of the various levels of jokes in this story e.g. when Cinderella goes to the ball she is announced as Miss Terry Stranger. 10 minutes later I worked out that this was a Mystery stranger. Ha!
Well worth reading to this level (7 and 8 year-olds) and modernised enough that it could be an interesting basis for older classes studying fairytales and writing their own.

Personally, I didn't enjoy this story at all.

I can see it's place in a classroom use, and I can imagine that there will be some children who get on really well with the empathy needed to read and evaluate the story from this point of view.

I could also see great uses in a creative context or for a core piece to discuss traditional tales in the classroom that may evoke a new idea/retain attention rather than the usual take on a story.
