Read this in less than an hour which says a lot about how I felt about the depth of this book, While the reminders for routines and reset - morning, afternoon, evening and weekends, as well as getting family members to work as a team to run the house were useful, I didn't think that it required a book to explain this. A good longford article or presentation would have worked. There was not that much literature or research quoted. The tip of independent play is also not ground-breaking. Author did not address other pertinent issues that could impede or negate these "genius mom hacks", such as how to prioritise and make trade-offs. If anything, these were covered in a touch-and-go manner. In conclusion, I appreciate the reminders for routines in order to make the house run more on autopilot, and to let the family members help out even when it's not perfect, I didn't feel like these were "genius" mom hacks, and nothing that I did not read in prior books or articles on productivity.
Aw, I loved this book! Randomly saw it for $6 on kindle and am like, I could use some genius mom hacks. Some greatly helpful tips you don’t find in other parenting books. Basically Hunt Gather Parent but super succinct and more actionable / applicable to modern day.
We’ve been doing the 5minute tidies (complete with timer and team mentality) and it took cleaning up from a chore/drag to now my toddler is reminding me to do it !! Incredible !
Biblical worldview as well which is always refreshing. Mama is NOT meant to carry it all but it’s also on us to name where we need support and remember that just because we could do it “better”, doesn’t mean we always should as it often keeps others from wanting to pitch in if they’re always being told they’re doing it wrong.
This was a quick read about some “hacks” to make running a household easier. Routines and systems are the missing link for many moms as this book suggests… but I need more examples of things to put on autopilot! I am already organized and high functioning, but I want to be next level 😎
