During one of the darkest periods in the history of Europe, the Prince Bishop of Bamberg has falsely accused Veronica's father of witchcraft, arrested him, and ordered him to be burned at the stake. Refusing to heed the warning of her father that she escape before she is also accused, Veronica seeks to save her father and is caught in a fight which she had never imagined she would be a part and a fight her father wanted her to avoid – a three-way war among the mortals, the witches, and the Innocents.
With the mistakes of her youth resulting in the false accusations feared by her father, Veronica discovers that her only chance to prove her own innocence is to form an alliance with one of the most powerful and infamous wielders of magic in the region and to form an unlikely alliance with the Prince Bishop’s nephew with whom she has become unwisely infatuated.
The Innocent is the first book in The Bamberg Trials series by author Stephen Reid Andrews.
My Mission Statement: To provide entertaining, thrilling, and thought-provoking literary works that encourage moral values and inspire positive action.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. There are some errors in grammar/spelling but not so much that is very noticeable. I do like how the characters were made with strong and defined personalities! However, the main character is complete trash and I hate her. The side characters are great though! I’m just not a big fan with how stupid and selfish the mc is. That adds to the storyline in the end but I was still offended by her every word and action. I gave it 4 stars because the romance was a little clique and too fast paced for me to really see how their affections for one another came to be. It almost seemed like it was just thrown in there for the story to be complete. Not very romantic. I loved every other characters besides the main one and the love interest. The Father was a little poorly written I thought too. What kind of Father offers comfort by explaining how he got tortured? Then again, he might’ve needed it for his reason for his lies. Altogether, it was actually quite interesting and I do suggest giving it a try. I was intrigued after the first few pages!

I have read all of Stephen Reid Andrews books and I have not been disappointed by one yet. From start to finish I was enthralled, I really love the suspense and the way that Mr. Andrews writes. I honestly can't wait for the next book to come out. Each book is different and I love that about his books. They aren't the same!! You can't read one of Mr. Andrews books and say I don't want to read anymore because they are the same. Nope, just the opposite!! Because each is so different you will want to get your hands on everyone of them and not want to put them down.
I guess I haven't read Raising the Barn!! Guess I get to order a new book to read very soon.!!
