The Beasts that Bleed Us

Rate this book
A bloodwitch scorned.
A beast betrayed.

After recovering from a dark turn of events, Wren and Sin are more committed than ever—both to their kingdom, and to each other. But before vows can be sworn to either, they must face the harsh reality of what is waiting for them on the opposite side of the isle, and on the continent across the sea.

When a meeting with the foreign king goes awry, Wren grows suspicious that a dark magic may have their every move being watched. Desperate to protect her loved ones, Wren must reluctantly scheme behind the backs of her allies—including her betrothed's. But when the Black Art senses he is being double-crossed by his intended, the result may prove to be more devastating than the war they face.

As battles grow bloodier, the shifter king's temper grows concerning, and the strings of Wren and Sin's newfound trust are plucked as both struggle not to slip into damaging past habits. With new threats emerging around every corner, it is more important than ever that these lovers keep their daggers aimed at their enemies... not at each other's throats.

Love is a savage magic, but it may just prove to be this couple's most destructive weapon yet.

Erin is a lover of all things fantasy and more than a little obsessed with morally gray characters. She holds a degree in Film and Media Studies but has shifted her focus to her one true love: writing novels set in fantastical places with dark, twisty romance. A self-proclaimed iced coffee enthusiast, you can often find Erin writing in local cafes, poorly singing along to the radio in a Starbucks drive-through, or rewatching The Vampire Diaries with a cold brew in tow. An avid traveler, Erin has lived all over the country, but Alaska and the Pacific Northwest has a special place in her heart. The Blood That Binds Us is her debut novel, and she looks forward to writing more stories where the "villain" gets the girl.

Thank you Erin Mainord for the gifted ARC! What a great end to a wonderful trilogy. This is definitely a series where the romance is the main point, but the plot is still action-packed and exciting enough to keep the reader engaged.
My favorite thing about this series is that the characters are ACTUALLY morally grey. They’re all complex and neither wholly good nor wholly bad. Their villainous sides are still there, even with each other. They also have beautiful, tender moments with one another that do a beautiful job at showing the complexities of the human experience. I find that a lot of books that advertise morally grey characters are basically just “morally grey until you get to know them, but they’re actually just a big cinnamon roll.” This is not the case with this series.
Sin and Wren have already been through so much in their tumultuous relationship in the first two books, and it is absolutely not smooth sailing in this installment either. They have definitely grown, but there’s still many things for them to overcome (pain keeps the plot interesting, right?).
This trilogy was a wonderful debut, and I’m excited to see what the author does next! I definitely feel like this book did Sin and Wren’s story justice.

Wren and Sin have been through hell and back and there’s nothing they wouldn’t do to save each other. The manifestation of their love is primal, claiming, and all-consuming.

This series has been such an emotional and unforgettable journey! While the central romance is the focus of the series, Wren’s relationship with her chosen family also shines throughout. I loved seeing how these relationships continue to deepen and expand. Sin grapples with his conflicted feelings towards his family and all that he’s suffered directly and indirectly at their hands.

Sin and Wren’s pasts are shrouded by pain, darkness, and betrayal. Their love has never been tender or gentle— it's been forged by fiery passion, hunger, and unwavering devotion.

In The Beasts that Bleed Us, Erin delivers a bold, brutal, and brilliant ending befitting of these characters.

Beyond grateful to the author for the ARC opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review.

i was struggling with this book through the middle part, but soon realized it wasn’t the book, but it was me dragging it out bc the only time i got to read was when i was too mentally exhausted 😪

and i pretty much ate the last 40% in a few hours, so it was definitely a me problem 🤣

i had a feeling one of the mcs could die by the end, and i was hoping i wasn’t right, and at the same time hoped i was?
but it had a satisfying conclusion, so it might even jump to 4⭐️ after i properly processed everything 🙂‍↕️

🖤 This was brutal, emotional, and so worth it. 🖤

The Beasts That Bleed Us is one of those finales that completely wrecks you in the best way. Erin Mainord really knew how to end this series with blood, heat, heartbreak, and just enough hope to leave you reeling. It doesn't just tie things up, it sets everything on fire and makes you watch with wide eyes and zero regrets.

Wren is such a powerhouse. She's sharp, angry, tired, and still refuses to back down, and honestly I loved her more than ever in this final book. And Sin? Feral, violent, loyal to the bone. His love for Wren is the kind of raw and brutal that makes you want to scream into a pillow. Their bond is messy and intense and completely addictive.

The plot keeps moving at full speed and doesn’t really let up. Every twist hits, the tension stays high, and the emotional moments land right in the chest. The writing has this gritty, beautiful vibe that just makes everything feel a little sharper.

This whole series has been about survival, rage, and building something out of ruins, and this final book brings all of that crashing together in the most painful and satisfying way. I’m still thinking about it and probably will be for a while. Absolute five stars.

Wren and Sin wouldn’t be Wren and Sin if they didn’t fight tooth and claw till the end. What a perfectly violent, bloody and spicy last installment in the series. I’ve been wanting Wren’s bloodwitch to come out and play and this more than delivered. And despite them being together, there’s still the deliciously angsty and tension filled push and pull between Wren and Sin. There is so much of their past that they still have to work through, previous hurts and betrayals that need to be healed. Because those scars don’t just disappear as soon as they decide to be together.

Loved Eldridge and Ileana so much! Ileana finally getting vengeance after so much trauma and abuse was a scene I’d been eagerly awaiting. Her resilience is breathtaking. And I adored all the sweet moments with Wren’s family. I think the plot with the seer left me a little unsatisfied. And there’s so much more to explore of the elves and to Vox’s character that a spin off would be perfect.

Thanks to the author for the eARC! It has been so bittersweet finishing this series and these characters are going to stay with me for a long time.

What a wonderful book to complete the series. Even with it being the last book there was still so much growth from the characters that I absolutely loved! This book was with me struggling through a book slump that has just been awful BUT every night when I picked up this book it kept me reading and wanting more and to see what would happen and my own life and exhaustion was the only thing that stopped me from reading it quicker. I don't want to spoil anything so talking about what was in the book is a little difficult to say more. I adored all of the characters and LOVE how Wren and ESPECIALLY another character were able to get a sense of justice to a part of their stories, the way I was like OMG YES!!! to that part especially. 'insert chef kiss emjoi'. I recommend this series as a good solid read that had a lot of really amazing things in it!

Screaming, creaming, crying, and throwing up (in a good way). I was so not ready for the finale of this season and I totally did not want to say goodbye to some of my favorite characters. But this surpassed all hopes and dreams for this book 😭😭😭

The growth all of characters have gone through to come out the other side is just so beautiful and I really loved seeing new sides to Sin, Eldridge, Vox, and hell, even Alistair. I am in awe of everything that happened in this final book.

SO. SATISFYING.

Also did not anticipate sobbing like an absolute baby over someone I strongly hate, but alas- Erin is such a great author I felt like my heart got stomped on lol.

“𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣’𝙩. 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙤 𝙗𝙞𝙜, 𝙎𝙞𝙣,” 𝙄 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙧.

SINGARD KILBRETH EVERYONE 🤤🤤🤤

This is definitely one of my fave dark romantasy trilogies EVER!

It gave me everything: true enemies to lovers, immersive but still digestible world-building, a lot of tension, explosive spice, and 𝙖 𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙨 AND still got the girl 🫡❤️‍🔥

“Just because I am no longer your villain, does not mean I am not theirs.”

SIR. I am not okay 🥵
I see no red flags. I am on fire and dead but happy about it.

The Beasts That Bleed Us picked up immediately where book 2 left off. Sin is pissed off and the beast he kept leashed inside him for years is eroding his patience and control.

So Wren is trying to keep everyone alive, lest, Sin decided to claw at them WHILE maintaining her independence from being smothered by the Black Art.

Not gonna lie, it’s hard not to just allow Sin be his possessive self because omygod he is so hot 🥵

“The only chains you will ever wear now are the ones I bind you in,” he growls.

There’s a TON of political maneuvering they have to do. War is upon them and their enemies are way more than prepared than they could hope to be.

Everyone is understandably stressed and struggling, which includes the relationship of our favorite couple.

So things like this happen—

“The witch will never again know the taste of her own magic. The only thing her mouth gets to taste these days is the spill from my c—k.”

The spice is, as always, verrrry explosive 🔥
And I am, as always, ready to say yes to whatever Singard wants 🙂‍↕️ I’m obsessed with him.

Oh and also—

“So, none of you thought to tell me he’d be f—ing me with his giant shifter c—k? Truly, none of you thought that was worth mentioning?”

The last 100 pages of this book almost gave me grey hairs but it was satisfyingly bittersweet.

I do wish we had some sort of an epilogue. A little glimpse to Wren and Sin when they are so distraught by the war and the carnage.

But I can’t wait to read other books from this author!

I was a bit disappointed by this one. I really enjoyed the first two books, but this one just didn't grab me. Most of the book was Wren's internal monologue about Sin. It was very repetitive. There was barely a plot. I also found Wren to be a bit annoying in this book. The pacing was very inconsistent and dragged in a lot of places.

The characters and relationships didn't feel fully developed. The whole Vox thing was odd and felt like it should have gone somewhere (not romantically). Sera was kind of just thrown in here and there. The whole Dusaro and Sera being mates thing just felt forced. Nothing in the other books really made it so that this was plausable. The mating bond is supposed to be this all-encompassing thing for shifters, and yet Sera takes off and just sleeps with other men? The king is supposed to be the villain in this book, but we don't get much about him. Cathal's death was very anticlimactic. It seems a lot was sacrificed so that Wren and Sin's relationship could take up most of the book.

I found that I wasn't really enjoying it like I did the other two. I just wanted to get through it, which is a shame.

i'm genuinely so sad that this was so bad. i've been waiting for over a year and just seeing how FLAT and unlikeable all the characters are hurt. that's not wren. she felt so out of character like stop talking about how you're such a powerful blood witch AND BE A POWERFUL BLOOD WITCH!!!!! saving all the big fighting and shit to the last 12% of the book was also stupid and the author wrote them so well i wish there was more fighting and not just sin growling every .00005 seconds. i am so disappointed because i love the first two books, but this didn't feel like part of the same series at all.

GOD THIS BOOK. 😭😭
well excuse me because i thought i was going to pass away ten times reading. my anxiety was at an all time high because I was scared how it would end.. and i was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sin and Wren’s relationship was anything but easy and their trust issues with each other were still there despite trying to over cover them. i honestly wanted to jump in the book and yell at them. and i was PANICKING the last 90%. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but damn i literally never knew where the storyline was going but those are the best kind. daddy Sins mouth will forever be the death of me 🫠 and this book was sooo much spicer than the other two and i loved it. so thank you Erin for that.
I loved this series… so freaking much. It will forever hold a special place in my heart because it made me fall in love with fantasy.

I'm glad i finally finished this series! the writing is good, i like the MCs too, though Wren annoyed me a lot in times! I enjoyed the series and this book, but it felt a bit boring and lacked plot, i wanted more about the elves and more about the other kingdom and its threat! the main plot in this book is Sin and Wren's relationship and let me tell you all, the SMUT was delicious 🔥❤️‍🔥🥵🥵

Wren and Sin's relationship is at its best in this book, their development as a couple was pretty, i enjoyed all their encounters, even the unpleasant ones!

there is no plot here, a king of another kingdom wants revenge so he uses Wren in a way that puts her back into her past trauma! i like the elves, especially Vox! i also enjoyed how overprotective Sin is of Wren and that made the spice so beautiful between the two!

The Hunt scene was cool, but it wasn't as good as the dungeon in my opinion!

favourite thing in this book is Ileana and how she healed her trauma!

favourites:
favourite MC: (Singard)
favourite FC: (Ileana)
favourite couple: (Sin and Wren)
favourite character generally: (Vox)
favourite book: (The blood that binds us)

What an ending this one was. While I do think it was a bit too long and had too much fluff like the others, I do feel satisfied with the ending. I felt so many emotions with this one, so let’s talk about this things I did and did not like.

Things I did like: I was so glad you have villainous Sin back in this book, I missed him lol. I also think that their relationship grew in a good way towards the end of the book. And the final battle scene really showed how bad ass Wren can be and I loved it. I also am glad most of the side characters got happy endings and I enjoyed their little love stories as well. I think that the plot/spice ratio was better in this book as well. I also think that the main characters had good growth in this book while also maintaining their ruthlessness.

Things I did not like: I do think there were some plot holes that were left in the series and there were some characters that I feel like did not have a resolution (maybe for a reason idk). I also thought it was unrealistic sometimes how she would not mention a character for like 100+ pages and then they would randomly pop up again. I also did not love the miscommunication in the first half of the book between the main characters as it just felt like they were regressing and it felt unnecessary for the overall plot.

Overall I did felt like I was pushing through with this book but the last like 50 pages were what improved my overall rating of the book for sure.

This was an amazing ending to this trilogy!
All 3 books were written so well that you literally NEEDED more! I continuously kept putting this book off because I didn’t want it to end but I needed to know lol.
Well done Erin, well done !

One thing I love about this series, besides Daddy Singuard, is that they truly are morally grey characters. They don’t “grow to become good” they grow to become better ! Wren & Sin both have a dark side but they love each other so deeply on both sides! I truly love their love/obsession for one another!
This book they continued to have intense challenges, with each other, friends, family & it always came down to the love you have for one another.

The character growths in this book was *chefs kiss* amazing and needed!

I only ask for a novella of Eldridge & Ileana !!

I did not want this book to end but I knew it was time to say goodbye to Sin and Wren in this fantastic conclusion to their story.

Erin really took us on an emotional rollercoaster ride in this final book and with a battle looming and tensions running high will Sin and Wren see eye to eye to get them all through it?

Singard is so protective of Wren, even more so with his beast more unleashed throughout the book because of his love for her and fear of losing her. But Wren has never been one to sit on the sidelines especially when those she loves are at risk.

When Wren learns someone might be watching them, she must keep Sin in the dark and it starts to form cracks in the newly formed trust they had established. But she will do what she must to ensure everyone she loves will be safe including her soon to be husband.

Love knows no bounds, trust is tested, reluctant allies are forged, new friendships are formed, and losses are a side effect in this final book.

I feel so lucky to have been gifted an ARC for this final installment of The Bound by Blood series. It certainly didn’t disappoint! The characters are even more impressive that they never became less morally grey/black throughout the series, always loving and hating and fighting with passion, and even viciousness. It doesn’t mean that they don’t grow, they absolutely do. Just…No apologies for making decisions that other authors would cheap out and choose the easy way out. My favorite parts are their disagreements and absolutely some of the side stories with even more complex relationships. Navigating the complicated emotions resulting from trauma and conflict is embedded throughout the entire series. This book pulled no punches and I can’t wait to see what Erin comes up with next!

Well, rip my heart out, then sew it back together. The ending to this series will keep you on the edge of your seat, needing more but also wanting to cover your eyes because you can't guess the next twist that will hit you upside the head.

This series has captured me for the beginning with the enemies to lovers, the banter, and the found family. I have rooted for each and every character. Even the ones I disliked the most, Erin had me loving and wishing the best for them. This wrapped up the story in a thrilling and amazing way, but don't worry, it isn't without the suspense, action, and plot twists this series is known for.

ARC Review!

Overall rating: 5/5
Spice level: 4/5

What an amazing end to this trilogy. I have been lucky enough to be an ARC reader for all 3 of these books and I kick my feet and giggle with each new installment. Sin and Wren are such morally complex characters. Wren has this need to protect EVERYONE around her while Sin needs to protect her, no matter the cost. The love between these characters is deep and powerful, and as noted throughout the book, potentially destructive.

This book is the spiciest of the trilogy for sure. My biggest complaint is the "withhold information to protect people" trope. Through that whole ordeal, I personally was not vibing, but it did not detract from my interest in the story the way it has in other books. Sin and Wren's relationship reaches a whole new level of commitment and spice with Sin giving into his beast while Wren reaps the "benefit" of that. I also love the way Erin incorporate knotting and animalistic pieces into this story that I was not expecting at this level!

I loved the character growth where Wren and Sin both fully accept who they are and that they lean into their morally grey personas more too. We see Sin struggling to forgive himself for his previous transgressions towards Wren and trying to be better for her, while still embracing his warlord personality that is needed to protect the kingdom and Wren. Wren is still learning to embrace her blood witch through control, trying to cope with the inability to save everyone around her, and recognizing that minimizing herself and her power will not help anyone just as sacrificing herself with no consideration on the impact would be devastating to the mission, Sin, and her family. It was so amazing to see how Wren fully embraced her power and what she was capable of throughout this story.

All-in-all, I am devastated their story is over, but I am so happy with the happiness they found. I encourage fan of dark fantasy to definitely add this to their TBRs and immerse yourself in the world of our Black Art and Blood Witch.

All the stars!

I have an absolute soft sort for books where the main characters are genuinely pretty villainous and you get that is spades with both Sun and Wren. and I loved every blood-thirsty minute of it.

I absolutely recommend this series if you like very morally grey characters in your romantasy!

I am speechless and having a hard time with this review. I am so brokenhearted that this series is now complete. But IT WAS SO FREAKING GOOD! This book was everything we needed in a finale.

I love that we still had to wonder where Sin and Wren's story was going. It wasn't an automatically assumed HEA. I really appreciated that the characters were still growing, learning, and groveling in book 3.

The plot, the banter, the spice, the LOVE. I am a lifelong fan! This series will live rent-free in my head forever. Such an emotional roller coaster, in the best way!

I want to see more of Vox and Eldridge. They have more story to tell!

"It was never you. This ferocious love has always been the beast between us."

I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed my time with this book. Picking up where it was left off in book 2, The Beasts that Bleed Us is fast paced and action packed. There is not a moment when you're not fully engrossed in this story. When Wren and Sin hit the page, you can feel the growth in their relationship. But that doesn't mean it doesn't come without its challenges. Through every trial and tribulation, they had to decide to work together with blind faith in one another and their unlikely team.

Once all walls are broken, you really start to see a shift in the story line. From the moment this series begins it's evident that these main characters have gone through heavy losses and endured extreme pain. The differences that previously held them back is what supports them through the final battle. Erin gave us a brutal ethereal love that led us to the most perfect ending to this series.

The screaming, nausea, crying, wanting to stomp on my kindle, spike in my blood pressure was worth it. Please add to your TBR, you will not be dissappointed.

Erin- thank you so much for allowing me to ARC read for you. It was truly an honor and I cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us. 💖

I can’t believe this is the end 😭😭

I loved this book so much and I think it was the perfect end to Wren and Singard’s story, fighting tooth and claw to the very end.

The romance in this was spread out perfectly so you were begging for it and it delivered at the best times easing some of the angst of the story.

Read this for the epic conclusion of the bound by blood series. There’s war, twists, betrayal, magic, captor/captee, fated mates, banter, found family and so much more.

I will be thinking about them forever, this is added to my comfort read list.

Thank you Erin for the amazing ending and the gifted arc.

this was by far my favorite read in march. the plot & plot twists?? literally insane! i can’t believe how much erin keeps us on our toes throughout the book & the final battle left me SHOOK TO MY CORE. i also adored watching wren & sin battle for dominance yet both knowing when to bend for the other.

the spice in this book?? SCORCHING HAWT. the python king aka daddy sin put us readers into heat. the mouth on that man? literally had me clawing at the walls and chewing the bars of my enclosure!!!! swipe to see my reactions to the book if you don’t believe me 🤭
