Colonel Miguel Mejia, a.k.a. APOK, is a man on the run, hunted relentlessly for kidnapping the leader of the world. Haunted by his past and with the future of humanity hanging in the balance, APOK must confront his deepest regrets while fighting to save the world he’s vowed to protect. As a shadowy global cabal seeks to consolidate their hold on power, APOK is forced into an uneasy alliance, which plunges him into a high-stakes battle to avert their plans. The world stands on the brink of a cataclysmic showdown, pitting the powerful elite against the desperate masses, tearing down global institutions and unleashing chaos. Will APOK succeed in his final mission, or will he be consumed by the very darkness that he’s seeking to destroy?
Michael Walton as a police officer, has been part of multiple investigative teams, chasing criminals involved in murder, gun trafficking, drug trafficking and multi-million-dollar fraud. In the midst of this hectic, fast-paced lifestyle, Michael uses his downtime to write novels. He relies on his experiences to breathe life into his characters, his stories embodying the crime-filled world he knows all too well. When Michael isn’t involved in police work or writing, he enjoys an active lifestyle, exercising, running, cycling, baseball and coaching wrestling.
In July 2025, I just finished reading the ARC (advanced reader copy) of CrossFire by Michael Walton — the third book in the APOK trilogy. Based on the author’s professional experience in law enforcement, he has a unique and first hand perspective with writing about the subject. Out of the three books, this one focuses on tying up the story. If you hadn’t read the first two books you could easily jump on board with this one. Though I would recommend reading the first two, because they’re great with a lot of fast paced action :) As a female reader, one thing that stood out for me was the way the author made the book very inclusive. A lot of strong female representation. It was refreshing to have women characters in positions of authority and power. Overall, a great story filled with intensity, humanity, and a strong moral compass.
Crossfire, the finale of the APOK trilogy is a gripping, fast paced page-turner that you will not be able to put down. Walton’s writing style has the reader immersed in the story line and characters, good and evil up to the final page. If you are a fan of multi-best selling authors such as Baldacci and Sanford this is the series for you. A classic story of good vs evil that will have you hooked until the masterful ending. Who will prevail in the end, and how, are impossible to predict with the odds stacked highly against APOK. A must read for those who enjoy fast paced, action filled novels, and this series is by a Canadian author.
