Corey E. King grew up in a small town in Middle Tennessee, the youngest of three brothers. From an early age, he was drawn to fantasy—spending hours sketching, reading, and immersing himself in role-playing games. Influenced by classics like Willow, he especially admired Madmartigan, Val Kilmer’s witty swordsman.
His brothers, Patrick and Jamie, deepened his love of gaming. Jamie’s vivid storytelling as a Dungeon Master sparked Corey’s imagination, while Patrick’s disciplined paladin inspired his appreciation for honor and chivalry. Corey’s favorite part was creating characters—crafting backstories, painting miniatures, and bringing them to life. In high school, Corey excelled in art and architectural drafting, serving as Art Club president and joining the National Art Honor Society. His drafting projects won state-level recognition, a skill sharpened by countless painted miniatures.
After graduation, Corey entered corporate America, working in collections and legal departments before becoming a licensed private investigator. He eventually founded his own firm, where his fascination with people and their stories made surveillance work uniquely rewarding. One memorable case with a Romani Gypsy family led him to study their rich culture in depth, later inspiring the Gypsy elements in his writing.
In 2024, his love of fantasy and storytelling culminated in the creation of Marek of the Mists. Today, Corey lives in Middle Tennessee with his wife, Tabitha, their three children—Lindsey, Zackary, and Liam—and a lively household of pets. He continues to enjoy writing, drawing, traveling, and role-playing games with friends.
