Jeff Gunzel grew up in Chicago Illinois. Even though he now lives in Westminster Colorado, "Da Bears" will always be a part of his soul! He eventually graduated from Devry University with an Associate of Applied Science in Electronics & Computer Technology. But his first love will always be writing fantasy novels. This story is part of the box set of the series I am reading but wanted to review it separately because it deserves recognition.
The tale of The Shadow is about a legend, one that is whispered in corners...and yet...no spoilers from me.
A very well written fantasy adventure with great characters and a plot to whet your appetite for what is to come. I particularly liked Anna's cleverness and tough determination in the face of trauma.
Good descriptions and imagery together with imaginative tangents and well thought out battle scenes, make for an enjoyable read.
A lot of action, that’s what I like in books that date back to the medieval times. The Shadow is not for children but I enjoyed it a lot. I understand that Azek is trying to change but his past life style will not let him. So why not use that life style for something good. Look forward to reading the next book in the series.
WARNING: There is rape in this book, I'm not sure that part was necessary as it could have written without details of it. Azek does promise Anna no one would violate her, I suppose the author is trying to let the reader know how vile these men are, but still definitely would have made the book better without it. The story its self is one of greed, guilt, death, revenge, betrayal, and character growth for Anna, who has always lived a sheltered life.
Assassin. by circumstances eventually revealed conscience and wants to leave it all behind . Few inconsistencies as though story was going to be longer or developed other characters? Overall, pretty reasonable read. Could easily be a standalone book without reading any others in series.
